You need to do everything by the book because you are actually deconstructing and rebuilding the whole bike each day and everything has to work perfectly under extreme conditions. It’s just not worth it to risk anything when you have the torque wrench ready.
Fantastic content, absolutely love seeing the real details. Props to whoever is managing the content and being willing to take a risk on stuff like this, us gearheads love to see it.
Brilliant! By far, the best video from this year’s Dakar … and I’ve watched a lot of videos! No commentary required and no heavy metal, thrash music … just let the camera do the talking.
Lots of little things to adapt a 450 for rally. So cool. External oil filter, non standard shock reservoir, Cush drive hub, modified airbox. Little things I never knew about rally bikes.
If you look at the lineage of the bikes, they really started with the 950/640 as the base rally bike, then worked to the 690, then to the 450 in the 690 chassis, and finally a 450 perimeter frame based bike. You can see the similarity there between the 950 adventures/690 enduro, and 450 rally still
I love the credit RedBull are giving to the whole team. These guys play such a big part in supporting their athletes. I’m glad to see them get the recognition for their hard work. Also really interesting video to watch 😃 Nice work!

Seems almost too much but I'm sure it has to be absolutely perfect at these levels. But with this much servicing it seems there could also be a risk that something doesn't get done correctly and won't work the next day :D That fuel tank/bashplate/cooler design is a work of art.
@@steedu46gt it’s so it won’t cost them the race better safe then sorry I would rather have all fresh stuff then not and risk the clutch or fork seals or your forks give out especially in a long race
I think atleast a team of 10 technicians for one bike. & they measure each and everything and torque setting for most of the nuts and bolts , not just visual setting . Shows how the technicians are equal to the riders in getting a victory Loved the video.
lol, factory just rebuilts the bike just as in between stage maintenance, meanwhile the malle moto driver only did the oil change, lubed the chain and says: fuck it, those tires can do another stint and goes marking his next roadbook. awesome vid
Made me happy to spot the hydraulic press from Werner Weitner GmbH being at 1:58. Awesome tool company here in the middle of Bavaria. Their stuff is top-notch, started out when the founder was sick of crap tools, so he started to manufacture his own tools.
This much maintenance on half a endurance race, I mean I get it, but my 04 yami sure never seen this much love. Still hits jumps straight and rips. Don't get me wrong this was still way cool to watch, and makes me wish the maintenance I did do looked this easy. KTM has forever been my dream bike.
@RedBullaudio the music is relaxing. 5:00 and on I caught myself melting into the groove. Anyways 5:30 with the socket driver clicks sounds awesome through my earbuds.
Toby rocking around looking like he's stumbled in off the street and been gifted some Redbull clothes as charity will never cease to crack me up. He's a bloody legend 😁

probably a custom built tool by the team. and like all things team related it's not going to be on sale unless you have a very extensive network of contacts 😂
Are there rules regarding what is allowed to be replaced by the pit crew or is it a case of as long as the bike stays true to submitted spec then it's fine to go back out?

Really interesting video. Though am surprised Toby didnt give it a test ride around the bivouac. That's confidence. Makes you realise even more what the original by Motul/Moto Mallee guys n gals are up against.
Why were the triple clamp bolts torqued before the front axle was installed? I thought the correct procedure is to torque the lower clamp, then put the wheel in, align everything and only then tighten the top.
Since when does the Rally Factory bike use that huge oil filter? The RFR's have the filter integrated. Is this new specific to the actual race bikes? Light setup and fairing seems also different to the RFR model.
Wow that's some great attention to detail and teamwork! Just imagine what that would cost from a dealership though 😮 more than the cost of the bike I'm guessing or at least a stock one 😅

Torque wrench on the oil filter damn you guys do it by the book! Lots of respect for the privateers doing these races with less than factory support
If the oil filter falls off halfway through the stage, the rider knows who was in charge of it so you'd best be doing it properly! 😂
torquing each bolt 3 times made me cringe. No reason for that. You wear out the torque wrenches 3 times us much, and lose time

It's crazy the number of parts that are replaced or serviced after each day.

@@liotier Nah bro, remember they went to 450s from 690s so everything is more 'sustainable'.
Cleaning the brake bleed nipple is some next level attention to detail.
i think he just take the extra oil out of the nipple so the cover will fit and not squirt all over.
