The thing to consider as I mentioned is that these are taken from my tv, then compressed and whatnot. So the vhs, and mostly the dvd are most accurately represented in my video, while the 4k looks worlds better when on an actual 4k tv and whatnot. I wish the captures for the 4k on this video were better but it’s what I had to work with.
Why in the blueberry f__k do BluRay and 4K editors insist on reworking EVERYTHING in that weird blue tint color grading? These are ROOKIE mistakes that simply don't show up on the DVD, which simply tried to preserve the original aspect ratio, color grading, and attention to detail.
I own all of the Scream films on DVD. Blu-ray and 4K (Except for part 4) and the 4k disc with Dolby Vision color gamut looks way better than you're representing here. I'm sorry, don't mean to call you out, but facts. On my tv the 4K looks AMAZING. The Blu-ray looks ok. I'd say the Blu-ray is a 6 and the 4K is a 9 out of 10.
lol I literally said that about the 4k several times in the video, and in a disclaimer at the start of the comparison. It’s not possible to accurately portray 4k like this without losing quality and whatnot, or without ripping the 4k discs themselves. On my actual tv I agree the 4k is great, but I’d say so is the Bluray, the color on the 4k looks closer to the dvd though, and the blacks looks better.
Filming a TV will always look a bit weird. Grabbing the data from the discs would be a better way to compare the quality. You can also grab the data from a DVD.
Scream is my daughters favorite franchise. We have 1-4 on DVD, Scream 2022 on 4K because it was a cheap steel book and Scream 6 on Blu-ray. I have never really thought about the image quality before but just enjoyed the movies. From what you show in this comparison I find it very interesting the differences. Honestly I am totally happy with the DVD image. I am just like you in the aspect that I don’t typically upgrade films but prefer to add new ones to the collection. I have to really love the Film and know the new transfer is amazing to make me upgrade. I hope to find a copy of scream on VHS in the wild someday so I can turn it into a copy of Stab for my daughter’s collection.
Yes! I'm excited to watch this!
your comparison videos and discussions are fantastic, love the setup!
Thanks! I do my best.
You forgot the scream director's cut on laser disc
Only way the watch the film to this day!
@@Thecatdrums3 Unless I am mistaken the Kinowelt DVD has the director's cut also
color grading on the dvd is the best compared to the other three
The 4K is very pastel looking, I wasn't expecting it to look like that. The DVD is definitely how it looked on TV back in the day.

Awesome video, found this really interesting. VHS will always just ‘work’ with horror. Subbed from a fellow physical media collector
@ 9:40 -- DVD NAILS it here.
The 4k looks like it has a constant state of motion blur!
Great stuff! Now I wonder how the Laserdisc version compares.
I only have a few laserdiscs in the collection, I’m sure eventually I’ll get a player then be more inclined to collect and review them.
I got Scream on VHS 📼. 😀👍📼
I agree, I’ll watch it on any format, I don’t give a shit lol. 100a% agree
Thay only release scream director cut on laser discs
I say the DVD version is the best
For coloring I agree.

Is that because the film rotted since the earlier releases?
