  • The second the Boston Celtics won the NBA championship, the NBA offseason officially started. With many players demanding trades and contracts running up, it was looking like an exciting summer, and now half way through the offseason, with many already in place we have a glimpse into next year’s rosters. Join us in recapping the most impactful offseason transactions. Lets go!
Let’s start off with something that sent NBA fans in a frenzy. The DeMar DeRozen signing. This peticular move was one of the bigger signings of free agency. Getting older and coming off his 15 season in the NBA, some people could say that he was pretty mediocre, for his level. Being the star and leader of the team, they pretty much relied on him to do everything.
Zach Lavine was just his assistant in the lab. However, you could see he didn’t like that. Not making the playoffs the last few years has tampered with his confidence and he probably needed a new place to take his talents. Whats better is that he will being going back to his hometown. Going to Sacramento, he will be able to pair up with All-NBA guard, DeAaron Fox. There he can be somewhat of a co-star but also have pieces around him to help carry the load. With the west being loaded like always, it will be interesting to see how this move turns out.
Next let’s move to a completely different conference and look at the Dejounte Murray trade. On July 6th, Murray was sent to the New Orleans Pelicans for Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance, and a draft pick. Let’s start off with the Pelicans side. Murray has been a X-factor for the Hawks as he has been their primary defender and shooter. Being alongside Trae, he was able to learn the ropes and truly learn how to be a true point guard. Turns out this worked and kinda didn’t.
The hawks did not do well with a two guard lineup and most people saw it coming. The record speaks for itself. Not making the playoffs, again, can start to take a toll on the mental part of your game, not just for him, but for the whole organization. The Hawks, surprisingly, decided to move on from Dejounte and keep their trust in Trae. Anyways, he can provide a lot for New Orleans but it really comes down to how he’s gonna fit with system.
As for the hawks, they are getting 2 decent role players who specialize in their own things. For Nance, he’s a big power forward who is a decent shooter and post finisher. Dyson Daniel’s is a good perimeter defender and off ball pest. It will be interesting to see how both teams use their new players to their advantage and we will have to keep an out out for this season.
Lastly, the Philadelphia 76ers acquired Clippers guard, Paul George on July 6th. George was just coming off of one of his worst years despite missing almost half the season. However, there is no sleeping on this particular superstar. If you are an NBA fan, you probably remember Prime Paul George. Prime Paul George was different. He was an MVP talent at the least, HOF specimen, and an absolute demon. With the Clippers George is like Night and Day.
Now the 76ers definitely are not expecting Prime Paul George, although they are definitely expecting him to be there 2nd or 3rd Star. Losing Tobias Harris this offseason was a bit of a hit for them as they lost some offensive firepower. With extra cap space, and George wanting out of LA, they pulled the trigger in hopes of getting there Big 3. Now having one of the Deadliest backcourts in the NBA and a MVP on their team, they are a legitimate finals contender and will give the defending champs a run for their money.
The postseason is nowhere near done, for example, in late September of last year, the big Damian Lillard trade happened. This proves that the postseason is without a doubt not finished, with teams still negotiating constantly.
These signings and trades are just few of the many that have transpired over the offseason.

Of course Murray didn't work out in Atlanta. They only got him to keep him from joining the Knicks. Thankfully it caused the Knicks to pivot and sign Jalen Brunson. Thanks ATL😂
