A common trick in cartoons is to make one full season but then split in 2 seasons to be like “It's must be good if they got another season”
And they don't bother reuniting them once the show's done, so people don't watch the whole thing, even though they haven't even seen a full series and... What's that? They have to pay the people who made the show a fairer amount because the two week window's up? Oh, better cancel it.

Almost certainly what they did here. A "full season" is 2 cours coming out to around 25 episodes. Krapopolis S1 is only 1 cour of 13.
yeah I was going to say most cartoons or at least fox adult ones. Seem to get 2 seasons by default. I think they understand season 1 will always kinda suck so they need that shake down season to make a hopefully refined season 2 that will carry the show forward.
@@patrickbohn5235 show had a three season guarantee at the beginning, is mentioned in show and is often the deal they offer allot of their creators so they can fill their animation domination block. Only reason bordertown has more than one season(also mentioned in their respective show).
The fact that Lackadaisy and TADC are so liked by people while simultaneously being self-sufficent in funds is my light in the dark. It makes me hope that good animation can escape from cooperate slogs that destroy any form of creative venture willing to take risks.

I had no clue about the nft thing. Disregarding that, the show is actually enjoyable. It doesn't stand out or anything. But it enjoyable because I loved seeing the interactions with the family. Somehow a dysfunctional Greek gods and monsters family is still healthy. I love the moments where it takes one of the family members and show just much they actually care/love their family because their whole thing is seeming like the worst family but is actually a good family. Plus it's a nice change from the usual fox adult cartoon just having some of the worst family dynamics
The show itself isnt too bad, theres some actual half thought into each episode. But it just seems to be mostly a time killer, like a mind numbing show to enjoy once in a while.

Not every show needs to be deep or moving, sometimes just killing time in a lighthearted manner can be good. It at the very least looks far better than I would have expected from anything with NFT association, but that's not saying much.
@@ImaNerdANDaGeekThe show itself is rather clever on some small level, it plays hints to some modern day things that we may have already known or suspected. Or at the very least it just pokes fun at, for one thing they recreate social media by using a hydra in one episode. Check it out if you want and give it three episodes, if its not for you then drop it. No muss no fuss.
The show sucks. The writers hard-core lack talent if this is all they could muster from Greek mythology.

I feel like Saber is being way too harsh on this show for something thats not even their fault. The showrunners didn't want to have NFTs associated with their show, but Fox basically forced it upon them. The NFTs have nothing to do with the show itself, it's just Fox being scummy.

Bored Ape had a convention in Hong Kong back in November, where the stage lights were (apparently) replaced with UV bulbs. People who gathered around the stage later reported severe eye pains, skin pain, and even blindness.
Doesn't that just seem like the biggest metaphor for NFTs?
I think what people figured out actually happened is that they wanted UV lights for the event (like, UV stage lights, which exist and are totally safe), but the kind they seem to have bought (on Amazon or something similar) were UV-C lights, which are mainly used for, like, room disinfecting purposes, and literally tell you in the product description NOT TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM AS THEM WHILE THEY'RE RUNNING.
so yeah, tl;dr, they bought UV-C lights on the internet that were intended to be for a completely different purpose, and ended up giving a lot of people issues

Like many people have mentioned, I had no idea NFT were attached to this show in any manner. However, having a passing knowledge of Greek mythology, I found the show to be quite delightful and tend to watch the episodes as they come out. I can only hope that less then favorable element of the show quickly dies off and doesn't stain the Krapopolis reputation TOO much.

I thought it was good too. Also, it wasn’t corporate nepotism. It was Dan’s past work. That’s pretty normal to hire someone because they have done something successful before.
I had 0 clue that this was an NFT cartoon, I actually went to the Panel they had for it back at 2022 New York Comic Con and they never really mentioned NFTs during the thing. Most of the panel was just Dan Harmon randomly rambling about stuff and they showed a few early animatics of the cartoon, it didn't look that bad but never really bothered keeping up with it. Either they decided not to mention the whole NFT thing due to them not being popular or some executive decided to force NFTs into it later on...Maybe they did mention it but I just don't remember lol.

Why can't NFTs just stay dead. I had no idea this was another NFT cartoon. I just saw a few clips of this because I'm a big Greek mythology nut and like Richard Ayoade, and I thought it was, not great, kinda mid, but an interesting enough concept that they could probably do more with it. But if it really is just to push NFTs, I'm not gonna bother with it at all anymore.

Animated shows are more likely to be greenlit for 2 seasons before even premiering. It's why Velma had a second season. That was planned well before announcement. Same for Krapopolis. It's nice cuz some shows need several episodes to lay out their plots. The problem is its wasted on usually bad animated shows. But yeah, krapopolis having a second season isn't surprising. It's kind of a given at this point. Now if it keeps doing bad we may not have to worry about a 3rd season being greenlit.
I think because the animation process is so slow they need to start the next season before the current one finishes airing to prevent a hiatus.

Krapopolis is not a bad show and I can see it going places if it continues what the past few episodes has done. Social commentary of twitter using hydra heads was funny and the concept of inflation and shitty solutions that governments propose makes for good humor.
The Hydra one is probably one of the best so far.

I actually liked Krapopolis, and I found the show quite hilarious. Sure, the NFTs are cringe, but looking past that product, the show is genuinely good, and it is one of my favorite shows of 2023.
I have seen better shows that have a more interesting artstyle that doesnt look like your generic Anglo-American animation like Rick and Morty or Family Guy.
As far as the 2 seasons before premiere thing goes, its actually standard practice for cartoons (even stuff networks have little faith in like Owl House get it). Animation production is very flow dependent, so it makes it so there isn't a Invincible style gap between seasons.
That's not true, I can think of 2 shows that were only green lit one season but both deserved more, Sym-Bionic Titan and MegasXLR, the only reason why MegasXLR has 2 seasons is because the artists creating the show loved the idea so much that with the budget they had made an entire second season and the executives decided it would be better for them to release it then just throw it away. Also they really aren't ordering 2 seasons, they are ordering 24 episodes and cutting it into 2 seasons to save on costs and market it like the show is bigger then it is

We are usually given 2 seasons to flesh everything out and pull the audience in. :)
Why can’t we get more adult animated comedies like metalocalpyse, venture bros, really unique concepts, with really good character writing, jokes, and references. Or the sheer Insanity of Aqua teen or birdman attorney at law
There was praise petey but no one watched it. The problem is those shows don’t appeal to the masses. But they do get cult followings.
Rick and Morty appealed to the masses cause at its core it was about a family, but was also still creative. I don’t really care if a show is about another family as long as the characters are able to stand out on their own and the show can still be creative.

I’ve been happily following Krapopolis for the past few weeks. I had no idea it was an NFT thing. I was so glad Dan Harmon was distancing himself from the Roiland controversy and producing something I thought was unique and fresh. I thought it had so much potential. I don’t know how to feel about it now, or if I can still enjoy it. It’s good, I genuinely like it. But this is insane.
The show wasn't made for NFT's, Fox is just trying to cash in on them. The show is fine, just watch it if you like it. The NFT's are chickens I don't even remember seeing in any of the episodes.
honestly, just watch Community. It's Dan Harmon's show from before Rick and Morty, it doesn't have Justin Roiland (except for a brief cameo in the finale), and it not only shows the origin of a lot of ideas in Rick and Morty, but it also (in my opinion) does them all better. Season 1 is kinda rough but you'll be hooked by the paintball episode.

I do think Saber would've been kinder to this show if it hadn't been for the NFT tie-ins. Like the impression I got from this video was that those REALLY soured him on what is basically a harmless 6 or 7 outta 10 experience.

I think it’s bad take, it’s own cartoon but has nfts because of the hype train. All sorts of companies were joining in like comic books, other cartoons, I think even a book tried it once
Edit: looked up more on it. Both of us were kind of right. Because it was made to premiere on 2021 around the NFT peak, Fox pushed it incorporated nfts despite the show runners not wanting that. Hence the immediate greenlight on the other two seasons.
Sometimes Saber will make a hit or miss, I think this was a miss personally.

Krapopolis suffers from first season Animation blues. I think it's getting better in the latter eps.. It's had some good moments, and the cast is awesome IMO, so see if it gets better. And no idea it was NFT related.
It's actually good to see Dan Harmon being so big right now that they'll renew his shows in a heartbeat. As someone who followed Community which was always on the chopping block every season, good on him. The fact that the movie was actually greenlit just makes me happy. This show is probably the con of this but I'm just glad he's now in the good graces of corpos.
0:43 For anyone that was curious about what he was talking about, a couple of months ago there was an NFT convention/party held by The Bored Ape Yacht Club, the company behind those expensive ugly monkey NFTs. They fucked up and through either negligence or incompetence, accidentally used strong, medical grade UV lights meant to disinfect things instead of regular party lights.
It caused a lot of eye damage to people who attended the event, even causing some to go temporarily blind if I remember correctly. This wasn't like a small percentage of attendees either, a lot of people there were affected.
It's very easily grounds for a lawsuit, if not multiple of them. Although, I have no idea if anyone sued or not. Haven't heard anything about it since the news first broke.

Strong UV lights cause damage to DNA... that's how they disinfect... but UV-C is especially dangerous. You do NOT want to be in the same room unprotected with lots of UV-C. UV-C lights also have a tendency to produce ozone and other gasses which (besides smelling horrible, how did they not notice??) can be harmful and are used to kill molds and pests in hard to reach areas.
I definitely think they’ve tried to separate themselves from the god awful NFT side of things. I believe they held off on releasing the show after all the controversy regarding them recently. They aren’t doing anything groundbreaking sure, but it had plenty of funny moments and episodes where every member of the family got to shine, which is rare in adult animated shows. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes Greek mythology and adult humor

I feel like the show is decent, no idea it was an NFT cartoon though. It really felt like the first 10 episodes were just setting the stage and the last 2 were showing where the show actually wants to go. I'm looking forward to season 2 if they carry along the same creativity as the hydra internet and fiat currency being a ploy from the gods to drive people into misery so they'll revert back to worship. I think the show has potential.
My only exposure to this show was a clip from a RUclips short. It was between the barbarian lady and a hydra that was trying to un-alive itself. I thought it was some web animation based on how stilted the animation was.

To be fair the show isn't THAT bad. It's mostly plain like any other animated show.
I agree. Sure it's fairly vanilla but after eating plain yogurt or spoiled milk for so long, vanilla is kind of refreshing. I see it having potential if they just dropped the whole nft idea.

Also, it felt like a couple of the dialogue lines were more like "look, I made a one-liner about acceptance, I'm progressive" rather than going deeper.
Better than making fun of minorities or so, but it always feels like a desperate try from a PR-team, especially with the "A Fox Production" screen in mind...
With Harmon writing for network TV it's going to be pretty safe season one. Community didn't even get crazy until the very end of season 1.
Krapopolis looks like Fox saw Disenchantment flop on Netflix and went "We can flop harder!"

My two biggest issues with the show are
1: Being a family sitcom it's nothing new for the family to be dysfunctional, everyone is a bad person in their own way, and episodic in nature. But most episodes I end up really not caring about any message it's trying to really push. The status quo is reset, everyone is the same as they were, everyone hates each other, any flaws that were addressed earlier didn't really leave. There maybe call backs, but everyone feels the same despite the show trying to make them seem like they are getting better.
2: The humor falls flat and repetitive. Some stuff got me a chuckle, but most jokes can be boiled down to "I'm a bad person, I'm bad at "insert thing here", god's are really just big babies with issues, look at this thing we invented what possibly could go wrong, (and I think the worst offender) Just you wait till someone invents blank thing that doesn't exist yet but I am somehow aware of what it is".
The show does have some charm, but it just falls short

Tbh, the whole thing feels like a weird mix of PR-stunt to make Fox look better, and some managers grandchildren mentioning the existence of _profitable_ crypto pictures
@@aRealAndHumanManThing I have noticed that if a TV show or movie that is popular does the exact same things that shows and movies that everybody hates does then people usually seems to ignore those things in the popular show and movie but people talk about that stuff a lot in the unpopular shows and movies.
I actually felt like the Family dysfunction was less copy-and-paste than most. Like, the Dad genuinely cares about all of his kids and his main issue is the fact that he's a horny weirdo.
Especially the siblings, like the Fish brother and Cyclops sister have had more than enough times where they acted like a genuine brother and sister and have backed each other more than not.
I had no idea it was an NFT thing.
But I'm genuinely impressed that they managed to land comedy legends Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade as voice actors and STILL somehow managed to make the show unfunny.
They both worked on The It Crowd and Disenchantment together.

Bad script probably
It’s really been a revolving door of trying to put SOMETHING into that timeslot for Fox. My wife and I have a lot of seasons of Bob’s Burgers via Vudu, and rewatching them includes old ads for the “Animation Domination” or Sunday block. Does anyone remember “Bless the Harts”? “The Great North”? Or before them, the live action (with Adam Scott) “Ghosted”? I swear, each one has lasted, at best, two seasons. I’m sure “Krapopolis” will be gone and forgotten soon, too.
Bless the Harts was by far the best of the new output. But the great north is good too and I'm happy they're keeping it on the air.
I liked the show and didn't knew about the nfts. I can not help by feel like he never gave it a fair shot, I don't love it, it is not revolutionary, but I liked, it made me laugh often, had cool ideas sometimes. I could keep watching without problems. He is tearing it down for reasons external to itself, intead of treating as the middle of the road show that ot is. I don't personally think Bob's Burger is anything special either, so I don't get why he mention ot so many times.

@connerthewubbzler1062 It had 2 seasons, I checked, felt like only one. May be due to me discovering it later and watching it in one go. They canceled it then, maybe because of lay offs or animation being too costly.

Ive heard about their situation being that the show-runners wanted them to add NFTs, thankfully the creators made an actually watchable show
The NFT addition was probably signed in to contract by some producer or exec around the time the show first entered development when it was still more relevant. Couple years ago, the fastest way to extract money from investors and board members was so see just how many times you could cram NFT and Blockchain into a sentence. Now it's all over, but these NFT companies are still holding signed contracts that they're damn well going to get some money out of.
I've got to the point where I don't hold a tacked on NFT element like this against a show; it was probably not the decision of the creative, and even the exec that agreed to it in the first place wishes they could back out.
now it's moved to "ai" put ai in it as many times as possible.
I’m still not over Netflix cancelling Inside Job. It feels all the same every time something like that happens; a project with real potential, heart, and an ability to really connect with its audience getting sacked in favor of soulless cashgrabs that executives think will make them more money. It doesn’t matter how many times they’re proven wrong. They just keep being afraid of taking risks and thinking that going with the safest option will yield the most money. What a soulless way of producing art. Makes me hope for the downfall of networks like Netflix and Fox and all of them.

The reason for being greenlit for 2 seasons on shows is because what constituted a season has been cut in half by networks but the # of episodes you are required to order has not. So now networks order a full 24-episode season then divide it into 2 seasons.
The ironic thing about nft's is that they basically work the same as any other product, they need demand. If no one wants them, they are worth nothing, is that simple. Just because a couple people are willing to expend thousands on them, it doesn't mean others will be willing to do the same.
Ia actually enjoy Krapopolis. It feels a lot like Futurama with the main characters encountering all sorts of alien creatures and foreign situations. It's the show I look forward to the most every Sunday.
I really liked krapopolis. The Manticore guy was really funny

That's probably one of the reasons why I feel like the show is better than most, despite it being a parody of the fucked up Greek mythos and tragedies that we recognize so easily from the civilization, they actually have genuine moments where they shine as a family rather than dismisses it for the sake of one joke.

First time hearing this show but it looks pretty good. It doesn't look like it needed NFTs, it just looks like most adult cartoons.
the show is actually good. not great, but good, which might sound dismissive but honestly good adult animation is rare.
the nfts were prolly a part of the contract when the show was greenlit to be produced. which is also why the nfts are literally just characters as chickens. it's to fill a quota that was agreed upon back when people thought NFTs were a good idea. once a contract is signed it cant be backed out of without far too much work. its eeasier to just do the nfts thing, and not draw attention to it than it is to break or rework the contract
Just before the show started they were pushing the nft side but I have not seen any nft marketing for this show at all since it premiered.

I'd guess the reason why these are still coming out is that their production crossed the sunken cost fallacy threshold before the NFT crash and they're just now finishing them.
It's a strong first season for the show all considering. I expect it to improve in the next two once it gets fully in its groove.

To answer your questions about the two seasons Saberspark, it is what I like to call Split Season Sydrome. What executives like to do is order 1 season with 26 episodes, then split it in half to say that "it's popular enough to get 2 seasons". This happened to Star Vs., Legends of Chamberlain Heights, and the Cuphead Show.

I think it's just because they want to show confidence to shareholders. If you only greenlight 1, they assume "Oh this show must be terrible, they did the bare minimum" But if they overcommit to 3, and it is terrible, they flushed a ton of money down the drain because no one will stick around for the 3rd season.
2 hits the middleground of demonstrating "confidence" without overcommitting. There's also pressure from the animation studios themselves because building all the art assets and character models is the most expensive part. Going through all that to only make one season is a hard pill to swallow.
It's more common for animation because of the time intensive process so they may want a head start working on the second season before the first one finishes airing

What I got to see or krapopolis was if they made the family dynamic of season 2 Rick and morty the whole show and almost nothing else.
The hydra was a really cool idea though, they’re not incapable of fun concepts in this show.

Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland were a magic duo but the correct decision was made exiling Roiland to the shadow realm.

Even though that is correct, it feels like everything these two are/were involved in has now been going down in quality over time even before Roiland got cancelled & arrested. Harmon worked on a lot of other shows outside of Richard & Mortimer but none of them had any staying power.
Also Harmon himself also got cancelled for being mean to women but somehow got un-cancelled. I'm not sure how.

@@AColonDashSix Of course it was a mistake. All charges were dropped, nothing was proven, but they gave him the axe on accusations alone and burned their bridges with him. Roiland has no interest in working with these people anymore and now any show Dan makes by himself is going to be mediocre at best. He's just not talented enough alone.
If you want good adult animation from Hulu watch Solar Opposites. After Dan Stevens took over as Korvo I was worried but he's much better and feels much less like 'Rick Sanchez but an alien'. There are side stories that could honestly be their own shows and eventually just have full episodes dedicated to them.
It's on Disney plus, it being good is a stretch.
I agree. I personally don't like Rick and Morty anymore after Roiland became a scumbag, and ever since his characters got re-casted starting Season 7, his show will never be the same. Same thing with American Dad which is one of Seth MacFarlane's better work outside of Family Guy (need to watch the Ted TV show sometime, would love to rewatch the movies one day).

Saber went a bit hard on this show, It's like at least a 7/10 show (Better than a lot of stuff coming out recently) with 1. A fantastic cast (Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry (together after IT crowd) and Keith David! 2. At least a few genuinely clever and funny moments, it is a Dan Harmon show after all. 3. Outside of this video 90% of people who see the show would never have known about the NFT tie in thing.
It's not a perfect show, but for a season one I think it did pretty well. (It's not Bob's Burgers, but it has potential.)

Huh, I've been enjoying Crapopolis thus far on Hulu. Nothing groundbreaking, But written well enough to keep watching. I had no idea they had such a tie to NFT's.
The Hydra Episode in particular I thought was a clever concept.
I’ve been watching Krapopolis I didn’t know it was about NFT‘s but I honestly thought it was funny enough and I enjoy the characters and the voices, a lot of the VA’s have been in some other cool stuff or are noteworthy in my book.
