- In this video I head for Charlotte Harbor from Naples FL via my trawler. After anchoring, a unexpected storm rolls in at 3am. Enjoy! Subscribe if you like the videos and Thanks for watching! #trawler #storm #boatlife
Cummins makes great engines. Keep those adventures coming Gus.
You kept a cool head and where on top of the conditions around you . Anchor drag alarm is highly desirable. You have some really nice electronics aboard to keep you in the know of your surroundings. Well done captain!
When you came thru Boca pass all those boats were Tarpon fishing!!😎🎣
I really wish I had done this when I was your age. I did finally do it, when I was 52, but that only made me wish I had done it earlier. Enjoying your videos!
Your videos are inspiring! I’m really enjoying watching your progress. Glad you were able to enjoy Naples, we love it here. Safe travels!
Living on a boat can be amazing and stressful. A high quality rain suit is always a addition to the inventory. Greatly enjoy your content.
Riding out a storm on a boat makes you feel alive! Live Large!
It looks so cozy inside when the storm is happening, I would enjoy that so much.
You're doing what we all dreamed of doing! Determination and talent allows you to achieve your dreams. At 77 I appreciate your adventures but realize they would have had to be in the past. I moved from Mystic, CT to Port Charlotte in 1997. At the time I had a 27’ Searay and cruised it to FL so many of your ports of call and cruising areas were quite familiar. I'm very curious as to how you became aware of Safe Harbor in the first place. I live 5/10 minutes from there so was very interested to see you were in the area. Good luck with your future adventures! Jeff
Keep doing what your doing. So fun to watch.
Glad you weathered the storm well! Stay safe and keep rolling! 👍👍👊👊
Find you a doc without fuel that is very close to where they can get a truck in and then call a local fuel supplier and tell him you want to order 300 gallons of off-road diesel to be delivered it will probably cost you a third less
Hmmm… I’m gonna look into this, wondering if they could actually get close enough to the dock.
Boca Grande is a great place. Great fishing!
love the music choice SRV
I love night watch, in a storm…. So much to look out for. I thing you did a good job !!!!
All good stuff Gus!! Glad you made out ok through thaat storm!! Stay safe brother!!
Nice work Gus!
Time to upgrade the anchor, Glad you didn't drag too much.
Howdy Gus, yeah as a boater that's the crazy thing about Florida. Calm Gulf waters turn quickly with a good Thunderstorm. Been right where you were before and drug anchor for 1100'. Love your ambition and Vids.
Well done Gus!
Hi love your show. I noticed you’re anchor is too small for your boat. I have same size boat and bought a 25kg Rochna anchor, it holds great like I’m bolted to the ocean floor and I can now sleep peacefully knowing the boat won’t drag. You should upgrade your anchor. Cheers Paul from DownUnder
My Brother is a was a Master Technician for Caterpillar who’s now a big shot over several branches. Anyway he tells me worst thing you can do to a diesel engine is start it and shutdown before it gets fully warmed up it’s called wet stacking it warps heads. Also run em wide open and don’t shut down until your done for the day or at least won’t be started back up for a good length of time. Basically they’re made to work hard.
Glad you survived that storm, Gus. How about the dingy?🤯
No warnings of impending weather?🌩🌬⚡️
Old guy approved. ⚓️
I'm peanut butter and jealous brother! Keep on living the dream!
You sir, receive a like just for SRV playing in the background at 1:20.
Admire your spirit of adventure. Oh to be young again. Congrats, no daily grind for you. Not strapped to an office chair in a mind-numbing office environment.
Pink Elephant (bar restaurant in Boca Grande) dock is free and highly recommend especially during a storm.
I love storms ...lol
But it sucks to be woken up in the middle of the night dragging anchor...
LOL yes fuel prices. I purchased my trawler 3 years ago and fuel prices in Snead's Ferry NC was $1.39
16 knots is plenty . good videos
Typical Florida storm :D be safe man!!
You have a great boat. Bigger means more $$$. Keep what you got. Regarding fuel prices, at those speeds your burning threw fuel faster than a forest fire. I cruise my 50 footer at 5.5 kts. 4 gph. Very efficient. Just saying. Great videos. Thanks for posting.
Crazy for sure
impressive and exciting !U don't even know if u don't
Thanks JOE, you made Gus go home
Awesome conditions in the Gulf. Its like a mill pond, ad we say in the UK 😅😅
The most nerve racking thing is being on a boat in a storm at night. You can’t see jack.
Great Video. Are you taking the ICW north from Port Charlotte? Gus keep sending your videos the are great.
He's leaving it on stilts for a few months to get some work done on her. While he's moving boats for subscribers. Try to keep up.
Sail boat time !!
Everything marine is expensive always has but then again manageable boating traffic is still doable. I'm sure some day you'll be able to stay at sea
The HI's and LOWS of cruising. Been in a bad blow at night, the wind shifted to we were on a lee shore, extreme anxiety.
You might want to try two hooks at 45 degree when you anchor in sketchy conditions like that.
FJB
Have you thought about trying the great loop..?
Shouldnt drag . What anchor and rode do you have on that tub?
what was the anchor alarm that was sounding in your stateroom?
What navigation system are you using?
Man that is so stressful and it always seams to happen a night. Happened to me one night at 2 AM TO 5 AM UGH
You were anchored right where hurricane Charley came ashore in 2004.
Is that the same Cam from your other videos?
PS, I always use the 7 to 1 method and more when anchoring, if conditions are like what you are in I would use 10 to 1 method.
Curious about fuel burn at 16 knots and overall for the 60+ nm trip. Thanks.
I only ran at that fast for a short period and then dialed it back to 8kts @4gph
Did your boat survive hurricane ?? Last we heard it was dry docked ..hope its ok
i love some stevie ray vaughan.
I love your video’s keep that up. I do have to ask, do you have your captain’s license? I have sailed a lot of vessels my self but no license. I am planning on buying a boot in a few years and was wondering if that was needed.
Captain's license is not required unless you have paying passengers.
As long as you're not charging passengers you don't need a captain's license but you should take a Coast guard approved boating safety class..
Thank you. That is what I thought.
Not yet, just a nasbla boating license, but I will have my credentials soon!
Great content....what motors do you have? 3208's?
6bt Cummins
Pelican bay would have been a better Choice for the night a lot more protection I live on Charlotte harbor and it’s no joke when the wind kicks up
I live in Punta Gorda and was going to recommend Pelican Bay also. One of the best anchorages anywhere.
@ 1:18 I'm pretty sure I heard some Stevie Ray Vaughn in the background
Better get in touch w/ Nathalie from The Far Side.
I wonder if radar can detect a jetski?
BTW...I carry a 150 Lb Mantus anchor on my 50 footer. It NEVER drags. Go big or go drag. My 40 foot sailboat has an 85 Mantus. It never drags. Mantus is king.
Dr. Pepper and bacon.. life by the balls... LOL
I heard a little SRV on radio
What is your model of autopilot?
It is a Autohelm ST7000 - early 2000s tech
Have you thought about a patreon ?
Where is Ms. Bella?
Where is Bella?
Don't complain about your fuel price. We pay 3 times as much in Holland.
That is CHEAP! In Finland that would have been way over 500 USD!!
I'm in Englewood hit me back if ya need a place to crash
You think deisel is costly...try living here
Buy a sailboat Cheers
