    Thank you. I have the 30mm F/3.5 and saw the 29mm F/2.8 available in my town - you answered my questions!

    30mm 3,5 is a rebranded Meyer-Optik Lydith 30mm 3,5 - a very good lens!

    Do you have any issues with flaring with the 30mm? I'm actually trying to decide between the two and the 29mm does have multi coated written on it while the 30 does not so I was wondering if that makes any difference!?

    Do you know if The 30 mm lens is radioactive?

    Thank you for the interesting video, I shoot exclusively on film and use mostly M42 cameras. I wanted a wide angle lens for a while now and your peresentation helped me decide against the 2.8/29 which is also quite larger and heavier.

      I am glad my video was helpful to you. I think the 3.5/30 will give you amazing results on film, after all that's why it was famous (at least in Germany) during the 70s and 80s.

      janundseinekamera I hope so. I thought that wide angle lenses were not my game and I sold a Super Takumar 3.5/28 I had. Recently I have discovered that with some creativity wide angles can give amazing results, but I can no longer afford the Takumar, so I went for the Pentacon.

      @@siddhantmogaveera I sold the lens long ago and using a SMC Takumar 3.5/28 almost exclusively since then. Didn't have any flare issues and the results resembled a multicoated lens as far as contrast and colour are concerned, but I couldn't live with the huge distortion when shooting architecture

    Thanks! I have the 2.8/29 and I'm not very hapy with the quality in the corners of the images, so I?m thinking to get the 3.5/30

      Hello, that sounds like a good decision,the 3.5/30 is a nice lens and definitely an improvement over the 2.8/29!

    Is the 30mm multicoated or not? I'm guessing its not, or it would say it somewhere.
    The 29mm non multicoated is very nice for the lovely flares it produces, but the sharpness from the 30mm does look better, (till you get to F8 on the 29mm).
    Well put together video, just the right amount of information and length, good job.

      Thank you!
      The 29mm is multicoated (at least is has a "multi coating" lettering), as the 30mm does not claim to be multicoated, I do not think it is multicoated as well. However its performance in bright light is not worse than the performance of many lenses that claim to be multicoated.

    Please do more tests with the Pentacon 30mm F/3.5! Put it up against some more high end lenses to see if it can compete/surpass them!

      Hello,
      unfortunately I do not own the Pentacon anymore. It is a great lens, but there was little use for a 30mm F/3.5 on a Micro Four Thirds camera. As I have more lenses than I can use, the Pentacon was one of those that had to go. If I ever buy a 35mm (=so called full frame), I will get the Pentacon 30mm again and do some more tests.

    • @andobreslin8735
      @andobreslin8735 8 лет назад

      Oh. Well I have a GH2, so that's a micro four thirds camera. Why is not compatible?

    • @janundseinekamera

      Ando Servis
      Hello,
      it is compatible and if you are only shooting video and want a cheap, good lens the Pentacon is a good choice.
      However there are many affordable native Micro Four Thirds lenses around this focal length. There is the Sigma 30mm 2.8, the Panasonic 30mm 2.8 Macro with OIS and the Panasonic 25mm F1.7. All of these lenses offer autofocus, which is nice if you sometimes also take pictures.
      There is also the Mitakon 25mm F0.95, which is a manual lens like the Pentacon, but much faster.
      You can find reviews of the two 25mm lenses on my channel.
      The Pentacon is a nice lens, but what I wanted to say in my previous posting is, that I have too many similar lenses, which is why I sold it.

    • @andobreslin8735
      @andobreslin8735 8 лет назад

      Thank you for those suggestions, I'll look at those lenses also! The Pentacon is very sharp & very good in low light, which is why I bought it for filmmaking. I'm aiming for a vintage film look. So many expensive lenses boast sharpness/low light capabilities, so the Pentacon looked like a bit of a hidden gem. It also has quite nice bokeh, another sought after quality in the world of filmmaking :)

      Yes, it has a very nice bokeh and the sharpness and stepless aperture are perfect for video shooting.
      If F/3.5 is enough low-light and and shallow depth of field for you, the Pentacon is a good choice.

    Pentacon 2,8/29 is very good, the optics were made by Carl Zeiss Jena.

    • @janundseinekamera

      +ignatei
      No, I am sorry, that is not correct. "Zeiss Ikon" was part of the Pentacon combinate, butnot "Carl Zeiss Jena".

    • @ignatei
      @ignatei 8 лет назад

      Yes, that's right. I meant that the glasses used in Pentacon lenses were manufactured in the CZJ factory (Zeisswerk Jena).

      +ignatei
      I am afraid it is not that simple. From 1985 to 1990 Pentacon and CZJ were combined, maybe during this time some Pentacon lenses produced elswhere used glass from the Carl Zeiss Jena factory. But in general the Pentacon lenses (including the glass) where produced elsewhere. The Pentacon 3.5/30 for example was most likely produced (including the glass) at Meyer Optics (VEB Feinoptisches Werk Görlitz). I know that the English Wikipedia article is a bit misleading...

    • @Cybjon

      The Pentacon lenses were made in 3 different factories, none of which were the Carl Zeiss works. Some are marked with a tower logo; lenses marked with that logo were produced at the Meyer Optik Gorlitz works, not the Carl Zeiss factory. Pentacon lenses use different optical formulas to Zeiss; they were based on Meyer-Gorlitz designs. The companies were intergrated, but the lenses were still produced seperately. In essence, no matter where they were produced, Zeiss and Pentacon lenses are entirely seperate products. Even if they did use the same glass (which they didn't) assuming Pentacon and Zeiss are the same is like saying Tokina and Leica lenses are the same because they both use optical elements made by Hoya. It's the lens formulas and coating, along with the the skill of the technicians that assemble and collimate the entire lens that matter.
