Mark's channel has the BEST value per second of watch time because he acknowledges that most of us have no choice but to consider value per dollar spent when buying gear. If you have Gmaster cash to spend, go for it.
It's a great time to be a Sony APS-C shooter. From having a pretty weak lens selection a couple years until now where we have almost an over abundance of fantastic lenses. Just a couple years ago, your only wide angle option was the Sony 10-18. now we have a whole plethora of fast, wide, primes and zooms. Not to mention the standard zoom selection. Sigma 18-50/2.8, Sony 16-55/2.8. Tamron 17-70/2.8 and the Sony 18-135. All top notch lenses! Good times!
My a6700 just arrived. I am now uncovering all its capabilities. Gonna take a while to learn everything, but one thing for sure, it takes great pictures. I threw on my 10-20mm f4 lens and hunted around town for something worth photographing. Found a torn-up advert flag, grabbed a photo and did some peeking. Man, it did not disappoint. Both camera and lens produced a remarkably sharp image. It rivals my A7R3. Now on to figuring out all those video settings. BTW, while talking about cameras to a nice person at Best Buy, looking at their great display of cameras, I suggested to him that I bring in my Nikon F2A (made in 1979) and display it with all these new high-tech wonders. That would be fun watching people, with a question mark in their head) gazed at it.
Tamron 17-70 f2.8. What an amazing lens it is. A bit heavy. But amazing zoom range and not that expensive. If you’re buying your first sony apsc camera. Definitely go for it for your first lens.
Nice vid. Glad to see Viltrox entering the fray. For my all purpose/travel, I switched from the Tamron 17-70mm to the Sigma 18-50 due to size. The Tamron is huge in comparison, but sometimes I miss that 70mm
The Sigma 30mm 1.4 remains a very versatile option being good both at street photography and even for portrait It is also pretty reasonable in terms of budget and of size. It doesn't fit in the 5 categories chosen in the video, but I really like it
Would you recommend this camera to a stills shooter? I do full time headshots and portraits (75% natural light, 25% Studio) and I want something light and fast, currently shooting FUJI XT5 with the 33 and 56, but thinking of jumping. Budget tight. What lenses would you recommend to rival a 50mm and 85mm equivalent? I never do video. Just stills. Would the 30 equal a 50 or so?
Great line up Mark and yeah man the Butter Maker is such a fantastic portrait lens option these days👍So many incredible lenses for Sony these days it's incredible...
Idk if you get many comments like this, but I want to thank you, I'm going through a really hard time right now and for some reason I think of a way to distract myself and your videos and channel is what I've been watching to help. I recently got the zv-e10 and watch your videos on that but yeah, I thought you'd like to know. You're helping me a lot right now, so thank you 🥺♥️
I don't get a lot of comments like this - so I appreciate you writing. I do the same thing - I watch camera vids instead of dwelling on the bad stuff 👍
Hi, thanks for this video :). Two recommendations for folks who want the smallest lenses with good quality, especially for traveling photographers/videographers: I recommend the sigma 30mm f1.4 at only $279. It is MUCH MUCH MUCH LIGHTER and shorter than the 16mm Sigma lens. I bought both then returned the 16mm when I saw how much smaller the 30mm was. 2. I can't recommend highly enough, again for those who prize portability, light weight, high quality, and small: the sony 18-135mm lens. It is tiny compared to some of these other lenses listed, and has a massive usable zoom range. I love the 70-350mm lens-have used it for years. My travel bag for international travel has 2 must lenses, the 18-135mm sony, and the 70-350mm sony. For night work and videography with a tiny gimbal I add the sigma 30mm f1.4. I hate carrying gear!
Thank you!!! I have watched no less than 30 videos over the last 2 days (from great expert people) at 1.75 playback speed, but yours has been the most help! You have given me my answer for my first lens for the FX30 I am about to order... and that is the Sony 15mm F1.4G.... THANK YOU!!!
I have it. Love it’s form factor, so small and light. But at f1.8 it has a very prominent purple fringing in high contrast areas. Don’t know if it’s the same with everyone or just my copy.
Doesn't the Tamron's optical stabilization fight with the Sony IBIS, especially with active stabilization? With no on-lens switches, isn't there no way to turn the OIS off with the IBIS on or vice versa?
Thank you for your video and other videos. I just got an A6700 but will be using it along side my full frame bodies and I’m evaluating using my small Sigma I- Series lenses like the 24/2, 35/2, 50/2, 65/2, and 90/2.8 on it so one set of lenses for travel with both the A7RV and A6700 or maybe a new A7C II when it comes out. Any lenses you could recommend for this type of dual body/format kind of use?
As a newbie I severly fail at the photographers lingo😂 great video. I just started to document my son's and my own starting BMX racing career. Videos and photos will be in action but portraits of riders too. Got the 6700 and the 70 to 350 G OSS and the kit 16 to 50. Now I have one lens to shop before my wife will quit our marriage which should be versatile and useful for photo and videography (and affordable somehow). Thanks in advance for recommendation for the last shot this year😅 and an explanation why this matches please.
Don't know if I would classify it as a "best" lens for APS-C but I really enjoy using my Tamron full frame 70-300 variable zoom on my a6500 . I get some amazingly clear handheld shots from it.I am impressed every time with how sharp it is zoomed all the way out to 300 ( plus CIZ.). I bought it, on impulse ( a sale price!) , for my a7c but find I almost exclusively keep it on the a6500 for the reach. I have been using my crop sensor cameras more lately - just so easy to carry around with the smaller lenses.
@@CLVlogs05 Well, there is a $200 difference in favour of the lighter ( but less featured) full frame Tamron lens and the IQ between them is a lot closer than you may realize. I actually didn't intend originally to use with APS-C cameras but am very pleased with the performance on my a6500. It is also a little bit more versatile than a dedicated crop sensor lens would be if you use both systems. I can happily use it on my a7C when I want more reach than Tamron's 28-200 will give me.
Only one I'd add is the Sigma 23mm, if you want a walk around prime it's a very versatile focal length. I do want that Viltrox 75mm 1.2 but it's not a cheap thing for a 3rd party lens, for good reasons though.
I was about to comment this one. For video its just so perfect, even in low light. Not too wide, but also not too narrow, it really hits the sweet spot for anything involving people in the city.
Thanks, Mark! Loved your rave review of the Sigma 10-18mm wide angle lens/emount. This is a brand new lens, coming out on Oct 26, 2023 so couldn't be included in this review of yours two months ago. Every photographer should have a wide angle lens in addition to a long zoom lens, because a good wide angle lens, such as the sony 11mm or the sigma 10-18 gives you two things: 1. macro shooting; 2. wide angle :).
First, your videos are without a doubt excellent. This is my favorite photo / video channel. ALWAYS informative. ALWAYS entertaining. I watch regardless of what you are presenting. It will be enjoyable and educational. Your channel will blow-up - please continue to include content in line with the ZVE10 / A6700 (whatever cameras replace them years from now), because you (your channel) will certainly grow and your audience and content will include more “luxury/pro” gear. - - Ok, question. I currently use the ZVE10 purely for video, and a DSLR (Canon 5d3 with great lenses) for photo. Which Sony camera should I consider IF I was to replace both the ZVE10 (video) and the Canon-5d3 (photo)? I’m an enthusiast; in terms of photography, I shoot pretty much a bit of everything (astro, portrait, landscape, architecture (interior, exterior), macro). In terms of video, mostly RUclips (crafts, vlogs, some sports action). I tend to hold onto gear for a while, so I prefer to buy once (good quality), versus compromising and getting replacement gear often. The ZVE10 is great, but it’s not quite a photographers camera (in my opinion). - - Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I LOVE this Camera soo much! We just bought one for my Niece for her first Camera cause she wanted one for content creation, for food when she goes out for dinner, etc... etc... So I went with her and picked this one out for her the second it came out! >;))) LOVE IT
I wish I never tried full frame. I was so happy with the size of APSC. My Sony A6700 arrived, and all I can do is compare the depth of field with the A7IV as d ZVE1.
It’s an old lens but my go to lens for my APS-C in de Sony G 18-105 F4 G lens, I do a lot of run and gun work, in have the sigma 16mm F1.4, and the tamron 17-70 mm F2.8 , and the G lens is the best for run and gun video for me 👌
I couldn't decide between the Tamron 17-70 and the Sigma 18-50 for my a6600 so I have both for now. I use the Sigma for gimbal work, an incognito travel lens, and believe it or not, I actually found it to be a great vlogging lens with IBIS or some sort of stabilization. It's small and light, so I can just throw it on the Ulanzi MT-46 mini tripod, and the 18 mm focal length actually looks surprisingly great. I like that setup enough to sell my Viltrox 13 1.4. And I use the Tamron for everything else being event photography, decent portraits, tripod video, run-and-gun video, documentation, and well... everything. But if I was forced to choose one zoom lens, then it would be the Tamron because you could do so much more with it than the Sigma due to the extra 20mm of focal length, vibration control, and it's bigger size makes it look more like a "professional" lens than the Sigma to the eyes of non-camera enthusiast clients or potential clients.
Many thanks. Great review. Actually I have most of the lenses, but two that I love are missing. A great lens for street photography is the SEL 35F18 which gives a perfect 50mm look. I am doing a lot of travel photography where the image quality is not the final argument but portability and zoom range. For this the Tamron 18-300 is perfect.
Another vote for the Sony 1655G lens. I have the tiny Sigma 1850 lens for convenience, but the Sony is just better in image and build quality. It is expensive, but it is the top APSC lens for Sony general purpose wise.
I have Sony 16 50 so It will be a waste for me to have sigma 18 50. Also I love Sony 16 50 on tiny gimbal But I consider buying Sony 11mm, or the Yongnuo 11mm as you reviewed before, after watching this video. Thanks...
As a new owner / photographer I've watched all your ZV-E10 content over the past few months and when I read the description my first thpught was " where are all the Sigma lenses?". I am really impressed with the comparisons and knowledge provided, excellent video! I am mailing you my Laowa 65mm 2 x macro so you can do a video on it with the ZV-E10 and A6700, I would love to see it used on that camera by someone that knows what he's doing, I could use the pointers!!😅😅😊😂
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. I have been using a CCTV C-Mount lens adapted on to my a6400 for a couple of years now and I find it to be a portrait monster. It's a Pixco 50mm f1.4. I think I was able to count 13 blades of aperture. It has all metal construction, but it weighs almost nothing. Manual only. I did a project for school a while back where I compared it to the 50 f1.8 from Sony, and the results weren't even close. I sold the plastic fantastic the very next day. I couldn't believe that a $35 lens outperformed a piece of native glass. Gonna compare it to both of the 50 GM soon. I emailed you a link to the amazon page for it recently, but it was a US page, and I'm unsure if you can get the lens in Canada.
The Tamron 18-300 is the most versatile lens I've found. Have you tried the Yongnuo 16mm f1.8? No one is really reviewing it but I would like to know how it is with autofocus in video and the overall optical performance. Thanks for the video.
For me the Sony 16-55 F2.8 G Lens best all-round lens, and for architectural landscape the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 zero-d lens is the best lens I would go for personally, over the above choices.
The Sony 15 f1.4 also has the advantage of being a fair bit more portable. For the longest time I have been using both APSC and FF lenses with my A7R IV, but looking at FF lenses have noticed that Sigma's APSC lenses don't really offer a portability advantage over FF (at least in the Sony ecosystem). Even the ancient Zeiss 25mm f2 has a smaller footprint than the Sigma f16 and that has the added advantage of giving you an additional 35mmish equivlanet crop mode focal length. The OSS is nice but IMHO less of an advantage in a stabilised body given how good the sensor stab in Sony cameras has gotten.
I sold my Sigma 16mm f1.4 + Sony 18-105 G f4 to get myself the 16-55mm f2.8. I missed the bokeh on the Sigma 16mm, but the 16-55mm does it’s jobs and comes with me 80% of the time.
Now I am more confused than ever! I thought I wanted the Sigma 16mm but that Viltrox 13mm is just too good. I need something wider for my studio A-Roll/TH shots. I was convinced that Tamaron 11-20mm 2.8 was the way to go. But you don't seem very confident using that lens for video. Should I go with the Tamaron 11-20mm for studio and sometimes vlog with a gmibal on my a6100 or should I just stick with a great prime like the Viltrox? Need your help Mark!
Hi Mark, I love your videos. Watching your videos is becoming my norm. I need your help. I trust you will help me to come to a right decision. My main job is to make indoor videos. Like DIY, craft making, painting video making etc. And outdoor videos are just the occasional tour vlogging video. In terms of photography, only street photography and nature photography are my hobbies. Between Sony A6700 and Sony ZV-E10 which would be better overall and value for money in my case? I want to use this camera for a long time. Please please please help me? Besides, I have chosen three lenses. 1. E 11mm F1.8 or viltrox 13mm f1.4 2. Sigma 18-50 mm F2.8 and 3. Sony E 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS
both can work but the a6700 is a camera that you can grow with and use for years. if it’s in the budget - I would go for that. you already have good lenses.
thoughts, VILTROX AF 16mm F1.8 , sony 50mm 1.8 fe and samyang 85 mm 1.4...... OR sigma 24-70mm and 50mm 1.8 OR the viltrox 16mm, sigma 24-70mm and sony 50mm. For vacation trip to Paris/London/Scottland , Trying to decide.
I have these right now Sony 11 1.8 for vlog Sigma 16 1.4 for studio Sigma 56 1.4 portraits. I am trying to decide what to get for zoom shots at church.
Another newbiew lens question... I need a wide (or super wide) angle lens for shooting a pool table from a very short distance. I'm looking at lenses like the Sony 11mm and I wanted to understand the difference between a wide angle (let's say under 16mm) and a fish-eye lense. Is a 9mm, 10mm, 11m or 12mm wide lens necessarily a fish-eye lens? How can I be sure that my new lens would be "normal" (not a fish-eye)?
From amateur point of view, lens size is more important on compact apsc system, than pixel sharpness at corner. So, most affordable lense for sony apsc is: 1. sony e35f1.8 - compact universal lens for all. 2. sony 16-70f4 - compact affordable zoom ranges, OSS. F4+OSS make it usable in low light. 16mm is very important. 70mmF4 good for portrait. Optical quality may not the best, but good enough. 3. sony e20f2.8 - most compact crazy pancake. Ultimate combo, also universal lens for any scenario except tele.
The Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS is still holding up among my sigma trios (16, 56, 18-50). Could get away with it in different occasions while running and gunning.
Hi Mark! You mentioned there is a difference in stabilization between native sony 15mm vs sigma 16mm. Is that difference also significant between the sony 11mm and tamron 11-20mm in the active stabe on sony a6700?
Stuck between getting the sony 11mm and sigma 16mm or saving me money and just getting the viltrox 13mm. I'm concerned that it's not as wide for real estate, and if it works better than sigma for astrophotography, street and social. You who have them, which one or which ones would you stay with? I love wide angles.
Thank you for video. One question: I got Sigma 16mm f:1.4 and trying to use it as astromovie camera, just leave it on tripod and turn on recording or watching nightsky via USB on laptop in 32000 ISO, any other special setting I should use or HLG3 on 1/50 is good enough for ZV-E10?
I have the a6700, and I was thinking about buying the 70-200 2.8 GM2. The two reasons are, first, I want to upgrade the quality of my lenses to a much more professional level, and second, because I’ll eventually move to a full-frame body. Also, I get a lot of requests for portrait photography. What do you think about this purchase? Or is it not worth putting such a great lens on an APS-C body? (By the way, the a6700 is very well-regarded, and I really love it). Thanks in advance for the advice!
that is an excellent lens and you’ll have the reach of a 350mm full frame equivalent with the a6700. you can definitely use it for portraits, but I would look at the Viltrox. 75mm 1.2 for portraits or the sigma. 56mm 1.4
I did not know the sigma 18-55 had macro capabilities. I own the tamron 17-70. i can close focus at 17mm. How big of difference is the Sigma. Now i am trying to find a video on the sigma's macro capabilities. Also, I am looking forward on getting the Viltrox 1.2 you mention.
Great video. I have the Sigma 18 50 2.8 for my doughy, you have mentioned that it has macro capability. Could you kindly elaborate. Thanks and regards.
It can be used for macro-style close-up photography owing to its maximum magnification of 1:2.8, which allows a minimum focusing distance of just 12.1cm
I do not understand why the Sony 18-105mm f4 PZ OSS seems to have fallen out of fashion. People seem to think f4 is too slow but it is only one stop slower than f2.8 and that stop gives big weight savings for the same focal lengths. The 18-105 is such a versatile lens. It adds that power zoom capability for smooth zooming shots, and has a great focal range of equivalent 27-160mm. If I had to have only one lens for Sony APS-C, I would choose the 18-105.
I traveled the world and shot like 98% of my photos with the Sigma 30 1.4, 1.5% with the 18-105 and rest with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 18-105 for that tele. Also the images coming from it have something special to me, it really has character :) For some reason I don't like the look of the 24mm equivalent, maybe the 16 is also too heavy. I'm very keen on getting the Sigma 23mm for that 35mm look, but I think its too big and heavy. (And pretty much FF price) Tbh, this made me think, if I should just hop on the A7C and get a Zeiss 55 and a 35 Samyang. If i go with the 2.8, its super cheap and small and compact! F2.8 offers like no background separation for me on APSC and I don't really like the look and unfortunately, I shoot a ton of low light That said, the selection for APSC is crazy good now!
How you not get background separation? One upside with apsc for me is that it's not as extreme, with ff i find it's tricky to shoot video wider than f4-5.6 because the dof is so shallow.
Hi Mark, I'm looking for a bright wide angle prime and was torn between the sigma 16mm and sony 15mm for my zve10. However, the sigma 16mm 1.4 was too big and heavy for family travel. On the other side, the sony 15mm was near perfect for my needs the only downside was its hefty price tag. My top priority is the sigma 18-50mm, though it's not as wide as the others it's size, weight and versatility were too tempting to resist. After hours of researching, I've learned about the yongnuo 16mm 1.8. It's not as heavy and bulky as the sigma and is 4 times cheaper than the sony. Any inputs regarding this lens? your reply will be very much appreciated, Cheers!
Hey Mark! another great video. just one question: i use ZV-E10 with KIT lens and CRANE M3 gimbal with no camera stabilization. i see small movements that i dont want. will i lose quality if i use standard steady shot function?
Hello Mark. One additional question, if I have the Tamron 18-300 mm. Which combo would be better to purchase Sony 11 mm 1.8 together with Sigma 18-50 mm 2.8 or to purchase the Tamron 11-20 mm 2.8. To use it with the Sony 6700 and thinking in traveling and hybrid use? Thanks
I returned my Sigma 16mm f1.4 and bought a SONY 16-55m f2.8 G lens. Still have the Sigma 30mm for Zoom and 56mm lenses for portrait though. I was so upset with the SONY 10-18mm image quality that i sold it for cheap. wondering if i should get the SONY 11mm.
Hey Mark! Thanks for the video, as always! Which lens do you recommend me for all around HIKING videography? (a6700) I'm planning hiking with 1 or 2 portable and lightweight lenses.
Hi mark! I notice you don't mention the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 zoom lens. In this video and in another video with a similar theme, on your channel. Why this choice? Is the Tamron 17-70mm lens a better choice for my Sony FX30 camera? This Tamron lens is cheaper than the aforementioned Sigma lens, but does it lose in optical quality compared to the Sigma lens?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Oh yes. I forgot to introduce you to my context: I'm going to buy a Sony FX30, but in the near future I intend to have a full frame camera (maybe the Sony A7IV). So I'm in doubt whether I should buy a full frame lens (Sigma 24-70mm f2.8) or buy an APSC lens (Tamron 17-70mm f2.8) to save some money and invest in other equipment. Do you think the economy is viable? Will I lose a lot of quality by opting for Tamron's APSC lens? I want to save money, but without denying the optical quality of my work.
Hey Mark I can’t afford professional counseling but you seem like you’d be willing to help at a reduced rate. I currently have the A7iv and the ZVE10. I want 2 get 2 cameras with 10 bit color. Can’t decide on a6700 or FX30. When I do photography I use my A7iv my other camera is going to be primarily film. Thoughts? Thanks!
My Fuji lenses are the 33 (50 equivalent) and 56 (85mm). Is there a lens that will give a 28 or 35mm FOV?
The a6700 is a fantastic stills shooter. The Sigma56mm f1.4 amzn.to/4fvCMff is the best you'll find for 85 full frame equivalent. The Sigma 30 f1.4 amzn.to/3NRin8H is close to that 50, but you could also go with the Yongnuo 33 f1.4 amzn.to/4fvIVZ6 or the Sony 35 f1.8 amzn.to/4huc20y For the 35mm full frame equivalent, Sigma just released the 23mm 1.4 - amzn.to/40ASDFn There are other options of course because E-mount has so many - but those would be my top picks.
Hi Mark! Not sure if you’ve already covered this, but as a new ZV-E10 user, I’ve been researching lenses (mainly for video), and I’ve found out that except for f stops we also have T stops. If I understand correctly, T scale doesn’t just calculate the amount of light passing through the lens but also takes into account any losses that occur until the light reaches the sensor. So an f1.8 lens is equivalent to T2.2. Do actual photographers and videographers really care about this distinction? Should I focus on “Cine lenses” instead of just… lenses? I’ve noticed that Meike has two categories and all Cine lenses have T stops instead of f and in general their more expensive.
T-stop is the measurement of light through the lens all the way to the sensor. It gives the most accurate reading which is important to videographers in high level productions. An F-stop is just measurement of the size of the opening on a photo lens. So it's more of a theoretical value. But the truth is that most of us are better off with regular f-stop lenses that have autofocus. Cine lenses are cine lenses for a few reasons - but almost none of them have autofocus. Stick to f-stop photo lenses with autofocus until you are working on projects that require t-stops and manual cine lenses.
Sounds right! The T factor depends on the actual manufacturing of each lense. Depending on manufacturing details some lenses have less or more light loss until the light coming through the opticals actually hits the sensor. However, since lenses are not manufactured completely differently, I suspect that differences are small. @@Herbridge
Good times!
it really is good times over here!!
+1 remember when i bought NEX-5 when it came out…was tough times 😅
I have watched so many videos, and this is the first that has answered what lense I need for realestate, or walking blogs. Thank you.
That would be fun!! 😂
The thing I struggle with is the f/4 on the Sony 10-20mm and I like clear picture in low light settings.
Tamron 17-70 f2.8. What an amazing lens it is. A bit heavy. But amazing zoom range and not that expensive.
If you’re buying your first sony apsc camera. Definitely go for it for your first lens.
Just w8ting to buy it when they release the G2 version. Sure it's coming soon
Nice vid. Glad to see Viltrox entering the fray. For my all purpose/travel, I switched from the Tamron 17-70mm to the Sigma 18-50 due to size. The Tamron is huge in comparison, but sometimes I miss that 70mm
The Sigma 30mm 1.4 remains a very versatile option being good both at street photography and even for portrait
It is also pretty reasonable in terms of budget and of size.
It doesn't fit in the 5 categories chosen in the video, but I really like it
a great lens!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for all your great videos, always informative and frequently entertaining 😁
What about 35mm 1.8?

Great line up Mark and yeah man the Butter Maker is such a fantastic portrait lens option these days👍So many incredible lenses for Sony these days it's incredible...
It really is!
I purchased the Sony 16-55 2.8 G Lense. It is so versatile for both video and photo. I picked one up on eBay for $750
yes - this comment section is in agreement with you. and it’s a great lens that is worth the price for a lot of people
Idk if you get many comments like this, but I want to thank you, I'm going through a really hard time right now and for some reason I think of a way to distract myself and your videos and channel is what I've been watching to help. I recently got the zv-e10 and watch your videos on that but yeah, I thought you'd like to know. You're helping me a lot right now, so thank you 🥺♥️
God bless !!!
I don't get a lot of comments like this - so I appreciate you writing. I do the same thing - I watch camera vids instead of dwelling on the bad stuff 👍
Can't wait for that Viltrox 75mm F1.2 review video!!!!
I hate carrying gear!
samyang 12mm f2 autofocus is budget friendly and quiet good. would love to see a comparison between the sony 11mm and samyang 12mm
I confirm sigma 56 and Sigma 18-50 are great. Small factor, amazing results
Glad I could help - that is an amazing lens
Sony 35 1.8 OSS is a must have in my opinion. Such a great general use lens especially for video
i also have, but too narrow for a wedding dance. In lowlight using F1.8 dof is very small, which is not a good thing in this situation.
I have it. Love it’s form factor, so small and light.
But at f1.8 it has a very prominent purple fringing in high contrast areas. Don’t know if it’s the same with everyone or just my copy.
@somnayak1 mine gets some too, my copy isnt horrible. Luckily its easily corrected in post.
Is just not as sharp with the Sony for the price that is sold, if it was cheaper I think people will include it as a great option
The Sigma 23 is AMAZING. I should have probably included at 6th category of street lens
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis that's where I'd have put the 18-50 and the 23mm
I was about to comment this one. For video its just so perfect, even in low light. Not too wide, but also not too narrow, it really hits the sweet spot for anything involving people in the city.
If I hadn't already the FF 85/1.8 I would probably go for the 75/1.2.
Finally picked up the Sony 11mm lens. Been looking forward to testing it for vlogging and astrophotography.
Thanks! I just got my preorder for my a6700 and have been thinking about which lenses to get
Thanks, Mark!
- -
Ok, question.
- -
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
if you want to stick to apsc - a6700. if you’re going full frame the A7iv is my favourite camera - it can do everything
I LOVE this Camera soo much! We just bought one for my Niece for her first Camera cause she wanted one for content creation, for food when she goes out for dinner, etc... etc... So I went with her and picked this one out for her the second it came out! >;))) LOVE IT
7:24 I chose the Tamron 18-300 over the Sony because I had a lot of situations where 105 mm was too far.
I wish I never tried full frame. I was so happy with the size of APSC. My Sony A6700 arrived, and all I can do is compare the depth of field with the A7IV as d ZVE1.
Ha - you'll get over that when you see how useful that camera can be
It’s an old lens but my go to lens for my APS-C in de Sony G 18-105 F4 G lens, I do a lot of run and gun work, in have the sigma 16mm F1.4, and the tamron 17-70 mm F2.8 , and the G lens is the best for run and gun video for me 👌
nice!!
Everybody is bandwagoning the Viltrox 75mm f1.2... including me.
Get on the greatness bandwagon
Literally took delivery of my 16-55 G, and not had much chance to play yet, but my word...what I have seen is amazing, im not mad I spent 1k on it 😅
great optics for sure
I have Sony 16 50 so It will be a waste for me to have sigma 18 50. Also I love Sony 16 50 on tiny gimbal
But I consider buying Sony 11mm, or the Yongnuo 11mm as you reviewed before, after watching this video. Thanks...
hey mark im thinking of getting the sony a6700 for youtube vlogs and shorts would you recommend it for the price
Absolutely - bought it myself
Love the mentioning of the alternatives👌
The Tamron 18-300 is the most versatile lens I've found. Have you tried the Yongnuo 16mm f1.8? No one is really reviewing it but I would like to know how it is with autofocus in video and the overall optical performance. Thanks for the video.
For me the Sony 16-55 F2.8 G Lens best all-round lens, and for architectural landscape the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 zero-d lens is the best lens I would go for personally, over the above choices.
In terms of zoom, I think the Sony 18-105mm is a solid choice.
I think your camera gear reviews are the best on the internet. Full stop.
Thanks!! Theres a few people would like me to fully stop - ha!!
hahaha! All truth-tellers have their detractors! Keep up your good work. @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Hi Mark nice recommendations. Can you please review the tamron 18-300 for apsc. I think thats an interesting lens.
yes - trying to get one in
I sold my Sigma 16mm f1.4 + Sony 18-105 G f4 to get myself the 16-55mm f2.8.
The Tamron will be great as long as you have enough light in the studio. you won’t get a very blurry background though like you would on the viltrox 👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you! You're the best!
I think at first you did not mention viltrox 13mm but at the end... 🎉
can you make a video about which SD card to choose for which codec of Fx30/a6700 plz sir ? I'm confusing about these cards so much, thank you
Great review but isn’t the sony 70-350mm an APSC format lens? So it’s a true 70-350mm on a apsc camera?
But the tamron does not have OSS, if we’re considering a6400 which does not have IBIS
thoughts, VILTROX AF 16mm F1.8 , sony 50mm 1.8 fe and samyang 85 mm 1.4...... OR sigma 24-70mm and 50mm 1.8 OR the viltrox 16mm, sigma 24-70mm and sony 50mm. For vacation trip to Paris/London/Scottland , Trying to decide.
I have these right now
Sony 11 1.8 for vlog
Sigma 16 1.4 for studio
Sigma 56 1.4 portraits.
So, most affordable lense for sony apsc is:
1. sony e35f1.8 - compact universal lens for all.
2. sony 16-70f4 - compact affordable zoom ranges, OSS.
My poor Sony 35mm now has a Viltrox 27mm 1.2 friend in the house 🤭
Hi Mark! You mentioned there is a difference in stabilization between native sony 15mm vs sigma 16mm. Is that difference also significant between the sony 11mm and tamron 11-20mm in the active stabe on sony a6700?
Hello, greetings from India 🇮🇳 .. very informative as always.
Kindly make a video about best lenses options for Nikon Z30.
For me 18 105 f4 from Sony are so so good. Great cheap lens.
Agreed. This lens was a permanent fixture on my Sony APS-C camera. Took some amazing shots with this lens.
@@gregsilver it's looks like I'm not only one 👌 for me it's my prime lens at the moment.
What do you think of the sony 24-105mm compared to the tamron 17-70mm? Been leaning towards the sony for my zve10 but unsure...
Great lens selection, agreed on all points. Looking forward to the 75mm 1.2 but I am also considering the Tamron 70-180mm 2.8
I just ordered the a6700 with 16-50 kit lense. Also bought a sigma 18-50 f2.8
Thanks for this!
Mark, thoughts on the Sigma 30mm 1.4 for Cinematic B roll? Already own the 13mm viltrox but looking for my second lens, thanks!
30 is fantastic
56mm 1.4
What are the best options for astrophotography? Or we are still not yet there to do that on APSC?
Great informative video, thanks! Can I ask you, which APSC lens you recommend for hiking videos?
The Sigma 18050 2.8 is a great hiking lens amzn.to/3Hr22nR
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for your suggestion!
Is the sigma 28-70mm f2.8 good with APS-C? Thanks and love the content…
that’ll work great. it will be a 42-105 field of view on the apsc camera
Yep. Thats my future setup. A6700, Sony 11mm, Tamron 17-70 and Sony 70-350. Need no more...
Yes - it should be highlighted more often
Maaaaark! Looks like Sony's Master Cut might be able to do batch image stabilisation (among other cool AI things) - would love to see you do a rundown
I traveled the world and shot like 98% of my photos with the Sigma 30 1.4, 1.5% with the 18-105 and rest with the Sigma 16mm 1.4
18-105 for that tele. Also the images coming from it have something special to me, it really has character :)
For some reason I don't like the look of the 24mm equivalent, maybe the 16 is also too heavy.
I'm very keen on getting the Sigma 23mm for that 35mm look, but I think its too big and heavy. (And pretty much FF price)
Tbh, this made me think, if I should just hop on the A7C and get a Zeiss 55 and a 35 Samyang. If i go with the 2.8, its super cheap and small and compact!
F2.8 offers like no background separation for me on APSC and I don't really like the look and unfortunately, I shoot a ton of low light
That said, the selection for APSC is crazy good now!
How you not get background separation? One upside with apsc for me is that it's not as extreme, with ff i find it's tricky to shoot video wider than f4-5.6 because the dof is so shallow.
Im lokking into gettibg the Sony A6700. This video was really useful for me. I eill get the ultrawide lens to help shoot my RUclips videos
Will you do setup of flaslight with sony zve10? Hardly find it on RUclips...
I haven’t tested that out - I do think the Sony 15 is something you’d be very happy with. I’ll see if I can get the yongnuo in

Thanks for the reply mark. All of your videos are awesome. Keep it up!
hey what are your thoughts on sony g master 18-105 oss lense i am thinking to buy it to use on a gimbal
Whatever happened to the 23mm and 30mm lenses? Just a thought.
Both great. But it’s a small list
Hey Mark! another great video. just one question: i use ZV-E10 with KIT lens and CRANE M3 gimbal with no camera stabilization. i see small movements that i dont want. will i lose quality if i use standard steady shot function?
I was so upset with the SONY 10-18mm image quality that i sold it for cheap. wondering if i should get the SONY 11mm.
the 11 is great
Hello! What do you think about sony 18-105mm f4.0?
Hey Mark! Thanks for the video, as always!
Which lens do you recommend me for all around HIKING videography? (a6700)
I'm planning hiking with 1 or 2 portable and lightweight lenses.
Hi mark!
I notice you don't mention the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 zoom lens. In this video and in another video with a similar theme, on your channel. Why this choice? Is the Tamron 17-70mm lens a better choice for my Sony FX30 camera? This Tamron lens is cheaper than the aforementioned Sigma lens, but does it lose in optical quality compared to the Sigma lens?
that sigma 24-70 is full frame. they have a 18-50 apsc which I mentioned in here.
Thoughts? Thanks!
Fx30 - it’s an amazing work horse of a camera - and if you’re not taking photos with you apsc cam - go fx30. Such a great camera for video
Would you recommend Viltrox 1.2f lenses for video?
The 27mm 1.2 - for sure!! One of the best
The Sigma 30 f1.4 amzn.to/3NRin8H is close to that 50, but you could also go with the Yongnuo 33 f1.4 amzn.to/4fvIVZ6 or the Sony 35 f1.8 amzn.to/4huc20y
For the 35mm full frame equivalent, Sigma just released the 23mm 1.4 - amzn.to/40ASDFn
There are other options of course because E-mount has so many - but those would be my top picks.
What will be the best lens for the vlogging and for videography for Sony APS-C cam?
for vlogging the Sony 11mm 1.8. for videography in general sigma 16mm 1.4
can the viltrox 13mm 1.4 be used on m2s gimbal, with zv e10???
No - it’s too big. Try the rs3 mini
I would love the same video, on full frame lenses.
on the way
Prices would be good when doing these. Good video as usual. Viltrox 13mm is top notch.
The prices really vary country to country
Great video thank you!!
You bet!
My a6700 is coming next week, perfect time for this video 😂
Can u do this for full frame 😁? Just bought a zv e1
will do 👍
The 17 70 is bad after the 50 , the stablization is good.
I have 18 -105 f4 and I love it .
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you! Really appreciate this no-nonsense advice.
I noticed T values from DxOMark lens tests and each lens has its own T value on specific camera
Sounds right! The T factor depends on the actual manufacturing of each lense. Depending on manufacturing details some lenses have less or more light loss until the light coming through the opticals actually hits the sensor. However, since lenses are not manufactured completely differently, I suspect that differences are small. @@Herbridge
