    Been using the Sony 55-210 for a while and for the price it's amazing.
    Decently sharp and will give you a good amount of bokeh at 100+mm even if you're at f5.6 or darker...
    Speaking of the aperture: Even on a cloudy day it will still be bright enough to take pictures with 1/400 shutter speeds and above.
    The OSS is also really helps if you need to go below 1/100
    Also have the Viltrox 23mm f1.4
    At 1.4 I find it noticeably soft, but I still use it all the time because the focal length works in a lot of cases and the f1.4 creates a lot of depth of field if your subjects are close enough

    I would add to this (excellent) list my favourite "creative" lens: TTArtisan 50mm f1.2. It's a manual focus lens and it's not made for super sharp tech images, but it has a very strong character and it gives you super beautiful images. I have a lot of fun with it and I can't believe something so great can cost only around 100$.

    I'm selling my Viltrox 23mm f1.4 after more than a year of using it. It is a great lens, but it's achilles heel is chromatic aberration, and for me the final dealbreaker is, for some reason, if you try to use it on pinprick light sources - like a top down view of distant town lights at night, the chromatic aberration seems to manifest as these terrible purple globs of light that ruins the picture.
    I'm gonna get the Sigma 30mm to replace it and hope for better - but I gotta say that aside from what I mentioned, the Viltrox is a very able lens.

    And they all double for video on the A7IV/C2, talk about value! And going the other way some of the Samyang 'tiny but mighty' full frame series hover around $300 - the 18 2.8, 35 1.8 (2.8 pancake even less) and work great on APS-C. Also if you're willing to buy used the Sony 18-135 is consistently available around $300 (just checked Adorama, $333 used).

    I´ve used the Sony SEL 55-210mm on my five year old A6300 almost for I think 98% of all photos I shot since aquiring the camera/lense in August 2018.
    Cars, planespotting, every day streetphotography, ... Treated myself to the Sony SEL 35/1.8 in 09/2023 cause I was so sick of the absolutely slow aperture of f/4.5 on the 55-210.

    I think Yongnuo 16mm F1.8 also deserves to be in this list. It was around 300$ when it was first released but now you can get it for 170$ , I got it for 175$ during a discount last month. It is a very capable lens for that price. Plus Yongnuo is known for their regular updates for their lenses. As I know their 50mm lens got more than 15 updates since it was released in 2020

    I just bought the 55-210mm lens for my ZV-E10 just a week ago as it was on sale for less than 200€ in the local electronics store next to me. Of course, it has its limitations - with a maximum aperture of 4.5, you can not really use it in low light, and sharpness is not the best in the world. But man, it's such a fun lens, it's so incredibly lightweight and compact for a telezoom lens that I can really enjoy just going for a walk with it and looking out for interesting scenes to shoot. And I am really impressed by its OSS, it works so well that you can absolutely shoot handheld videos even at 210mm and even with an unstabilized body like the ZV-E10 (Same thing, by the way, with my Sony 35mm f/1.8 lens. I don't understand why Sony doesn't integrate its excellent OSS in all of its lenses).

    Get well soon and eat lots of oranges. God's gift to fight colds and improve immune system.
    Been practicing faux street photography with my ZEV-E10 and a Sony 15mm or Sigma 16mm lens. Lots of fun. I watched some videos of people bravely doing street photography in NYC, risking their lives in that overcrowded city with tall buildings. Love So. Cal. Will never go to NYC or NY though I was born there. For some reason, I have loved wide angle lenses. They are so much fun, offer a wide field of view and can make interesting portraits. I got a portrait of my longtime friends, husband and wife, I shot with a Nikon 16mm full frame fisheye. Very unique.
    Keep up the good work, so many newbies are buying the ZEV-E10 and need good advice on lens selection without going broke.

    The Viltrox 27mm is closer to a 40mm and not a 50mm. The lens is really good, can highly recommend it. But be carefuly if you screw it in the firware update dock. The pins easily break. Best is to carefully pull both away from each other while screwing the lens in.

    Have a dumb newby question. You said that the Viltrox 23mm lens has an 35 mm full frame lens or is the equivalent of it. But did I understand it wrong? Because I learned so far, that IF the lens is an apsc lens then you don't have that 1.5x cropping factor if you're using it also on apsc. Why it should be the like an 35mm lens 🤔

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  6 месяцев назад

      The crop factor is in reference to the size of the sensor. People mention it to compare the field of view. So a 23mm apse lens on an apse camera will have the same field of view as a 35mm full frame lens on a full frame camera

    So this is unrelated to the video, but you've helped me a lot whenever I have questions, so I figured I'd come to one of your vids and ask. I recorded some footage at Howl O Scream this year, using the Sigma 16mm 1.4, with aperture priority on to make sure it stayed at 1.4. I ran into an issue though with focusing, the camera was having a really difficult time focusing when walking through the haunted houses or scare zones, and it took a millenia to focus on ANYTHING. Is there something I can do to combat this next time? I was using the ZV-E10.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  10 месяцев назад

      Yes - in very low light camera will struggle even with a 1.4. The best thing to do would be to manually focus - but you may not be able to see the screen. So if you are in autofocus - pick center zone focus and then the camera will at least know the area you're aiming for.

    How do you think the Sony e35 1.8 oss, it’s cheap and with stabilization

    Wait...so these lenses will NOT work on a full frame Sony alpha 7C, right? Im kind of confused. Can you please help me with any clarification?

      they will work on the A7C - but the camera will go into apsc crop mode. So a 16mm apsc lens will have the same field of view as a 24mm full frame lens (you multiply by 1.5x). this will be fine for video, but for photos, you will lose a lot of megapixels (instead of 24, you will have 10). It’s best to stick with full frame lenses for photos on your A7C

      ah thank you. So basically the 27mm viltrox lens will give me a 27mm field of view on a camera like the Sony Alpha 6400, right?

      @@Gautam1108 yes, the same look as the 27 on an a6400. your A7C will act like an apsc camera if you attach an apsc lens.

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I'm sorry to bother you again - but brother, trust me - LAST QUESTION, your input would really help me make a purchase. Ok so what I wanted to ask is based on my experience with Nikon. I had a Nikon APS-C camera, and I bought a 50mm 1.8 Full-frame lens. This fit - as the mount was same - but the images I'd get would be like a ~75mm lens. Which makes sense, due to the crop factor.
      Now, what I'm trying to ask is that if, say, I own a A6400 (APS-C format). And I happen to purchase the 27mm lens you posted about in this video. So when I photograph - will the image be that of a 27mm lens or will the image be that of ~41mm lens? (Let's leave out the megapixels here). [just a simple, and stupid, documentary photographer here, sorry]

    Pls , I have a question for you, the yongnuo 50mm f1.8 VS sony 50mm f1.8 OSS , which is sharper?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  9 месяцев назад +1

      I haven’t seen them side by side - but I’m pretty sure the Yongnuo is sharper. That Sony 50 isn’t the sharpest
