Great list, Arthur! My two cents: If you're just getting started, get the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and the Sigma 23 mm f1.4 (surprised you didn't include it!). This combo will cover 95% of your needs - landscape, portraits, street, semi-macro shots, and even use the first one as a webcam. The Sigma 23 mm f1.4 is the best lens for family gatherings, parties, and low-light photos IMO.
Sigma 23mm F.4 probably can't really compete with the viltrox 27mm F1.2 at this point. It is surely smaller and the optical performance can be identical but the F1.2 wins and the bokeh is not as busy as the Sigma and more pleasing. AF are very identical. I got high success rate in both and I really can't tell which one is better or worse so it's a tie for me for AF. This come from my personal experience and I have sold Sigma 30mm and Sigma 23 F1.4 away after I got the viltrox 27mm for a few months. Though one really cant go wrong with either but I like the Viltrox more despite being slightly heavier lens.
I agree, i also have both lenses with you have mentioned. And seriously love them. But if i would find a great deal i still would switch for Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 for the Sony 16-55mm f2.8

I have read your previous message as well.
The Viltrox 27 1.2 is my favourite lens to shoot with, it used to be the Sigma 56 1.4 but you are right about how special the images that come out of the 27 are. Immensely pleasing.
Agreed. It also replaces my Sigma 18-50mm these days. I only pick the Sigma 18-50mm up when I really need wider focal length. For Sigma 56mm F1.4, I really use it a lot less but I plan to sell it for Viltrox 75mm F1.2 for better reach. Back to Sigma 56mm vs Viltorx 27 mm, I feel 56mm and 27mm are not that far apart when really go out. I do get further reach from the Sigma but that's it.....and image quality wise they are almost the same except the Viltrox has F1.2 and more pleasing bokeh.
@@rsat9526 I have both Sigma 56mm and Viltrox 75mm. The latter only comes out in professional portrait shoots, but the 56 is so small. If you can afford to have both, the Sigma is a great thing to be able to take on any trip without worrying about weight
@@mohsin_sait yes and no, they are both great lenses, I prefer the 27 in how it renders over all my other lenses, but for portrait, I'd get the 56 first as it's so versatile. For other forms of photography, 27 first. But own them both if you can.
Gotta give the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 some love. The fact that it's under $300 is insane considering how good it is. I've seen the Northern Lights, tornadoes, the milky way with it plus it's good for portraits and product photography. Only real downside is that the minimum focus distance is almost 12 inches, but even then the pros outweigh the cons by a large degree.
I would like to mention Sony PZ 10-20 f/4.0. I had changed my old Sony 10-18 f/4 for this lens. And the build quality and sharpness are outstanding, Also it is lightweight and compact. As for telephoto range - Sony 70-350 is a true gem. Sharp openwide at all distances ang gives 525mm equivalent at long end. Probably it is the best lens i ve ever had.
i got the tamron as my 1 & done type of lens and i haven't been disappointed. owned now for 2years and ive used it on a6400 and now a6600 since ive upgraded. i use it for video and photos
So many good options for apsc! My a6700 setups includes: Sony 16-55mm f/2.8 Sony 70-350mm Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 If I were to add one it might very well be the Viltrox 75mm
I owned the Sigma 16 f/1.4 when I used APS-C. It is unnecessary big. I would much rather buy the Sony 15. Now as a full frame user all my primes and my most used zoom (20-70) have aperture ring and I love it.
The advantage with APSC Sony Cameras and Lenses are compactness, so I would choose Venus Optics Laowa 9mm 2.8 Zero-D, Sony 15mm 1.4 G, from here I will jump to full frame Lenses ! Fx Zeiss Loxia Distagon 2.8 T* (I do not need aperture 1.4 !), Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 T* ZA (a few month ago I saw one as low as US$180 included taxes at my local store and they had five of them for US$360 each), Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T* (I do not need aperture 1.2 !). Remember there are a lot of full frame Lenses that can be used on Sony APC Cameras ! In total, this set will be more compact and light weight than Arthurs set.
While I own several full frame Sony cameras, including the small A7CR an A7cII I did also buy their A6700 body before those came out. My favorite 5 are almost the same except I bought the mint Sony 15/1.4 G used instead of the Sigma 16/1.4 DC DN. The two Viltrox lenses are enjoyable to shoot with just wish they were a little lighter. Always enjoy your videos. Also like the Sigma 10-18/2.8 DC DN. Thank you and take care. Always enjoy your channel.
I own Viltrox lenses over multiple camera systems and LOVE them. I also enjoy the Sony 50mm f/1.8 APSC lens. I own the FE Nifty Fifty and was surprised that there was a crop version. I now own two of these One in Black and the other in Silver/Chrome. Cheers!
I’d prefer the Sony 15mm 1.4 even though it’s more expensive than the Sigma 16mm 1.4. I adore fully featured lenses that are small. The 15mm magical. It’s 200 grams ❤ with an aperture ring, an extra button and is sharp as a knife. I want Sony to make their own line of G lens primes for apsc
I was coming to comment the same. I’ve owned both, and while the Sigma is fantastic….. the Sony is just that little bit better and sooooo much lighter. The size to me is a big selling point. Arthur is spot on when he says it’s more refined. Also the lack of the 70-350 on this list baffles me. That lens borderline justifies me keeping APS-C even after getting into full frame.
Your first two lenses are what I bought as my first two lenses as well, based on my own research. Great choices! And you are absolutely right. The big missing piece in APSC mirrorless lineup is a bright telephoto superzoom,
The Sigma 56mm is my sharpest lens. It's fantastic for portraits. The 18-50 constantly surprises me by being sharper than I expected (small and light). The Sony 11mm f/1.8 fills a gap for me. It's a good little lens but I don't use it much. The 16mm f/1.4 is wide and sharp. I've learned to rely on it when I have to shoot in low light. Lenses I've sold off include the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS. It just never thrilled me. I sold off the 18-135. I liked the reach but it too didn't thrill me. Sharpness was ok but it disappointed me to the point of me skipping over it when choosing a lens for the day. I didn't care for the variable focal range. Good review Arthur. I often return to your channel when I want to learn about new lenses or body's. You give real world reviews that are easy to watch.
The Sigma 56mm is definitely so good. I love it but the Viltrox 27mm F1.2 kinda replaces it most of the time these days. It does the job well enough and more flexible focal length so that I do not have to switch the lens. The only good thing which keep me from selling it for Viltrox 75mm F.2 are budget and focal length. When I got enough saving (soon) I might sell it for the Viltrox 75mm or perhaps get the Sony 70-350mm.
*Out of all 5 of your lens I have 3 or rather one is replaced. I DID have the Sigma 16mm but because I now also own the ZV-E10 it's a bit heavy for this Camera SO...I traded it in for the Sony 11mm f1.4 and NOW, I have the Sigma 18-50mm for all my unboxing videos as well as trying it out for vlogging. Now My Current Lens line-up is (2) Sony Lens the 11mm f1.8 & My FIRST G Lens the 15mm f1.4 AND my New Sigma Lens the 18-50mm & I'd like to thank you for your lens reviews as I bought the Sigma 16mm because of your reviews on it as well as the Pretty much all the lens I currently have. Thank you for your lens reviews*
I've been using my a6700 since got it on launch day. My go to lens has been the Tamron 17-70, it is amazing, but it is heavy. I use that for shooting with models. For street photography, love the Sony 20mm, 35mm, and 50mm. I can have one on the camera, and carry two in pockets, for an incognito wandering and street shooting. I have the Sony 70-350mm for wildlife or sport shooting. I'm thinking of getting into videography, and think I'll use my 35 or 50 mm Sony's for that. I also have a Rokinon 12mm Ultrawide, but don't use it that often. For waterfalls and astrophotography, it works very well.
Thanks for your video. Maybe you have influenced me since I started watching your channel since buying back into APS-C to accompany my full frame. I have the Sigma 18-50, both the 75mm and the 27mm Viltrox’s, the Sony 15/1.4 but also the newer Sigma 10-18. I buy most lenses used so also have the Sigma 30mm and 56mm. My final APS-C lens is the Sony 70-350mm but would like something more like a 50-133 or 50-200. Keep your reviews coming and take care.
@@timfox5341 I haven’t used it a lot yet but I’m very happy with the field of view it provides for APS-C. I use a 200-600 on my full frame bodies for BIF and in combination with the A6700 i have it’s almost been almost as useful for a much lighter weight. Admit for me only time will tell but happy so far.
Both Viltrox Pro lens are incredible, i'm always amazed when i come back from shoot, the images have really that "wow" special effect, mix of 3d pop contrast, refined sharpness in details and creamy fall-of that you only get on a good full frame lens usually. Wide open the CA are well controlled also, superbe. Btw a 3rd pro lens in on the way, can't wait !
I love your videos and how well you go through gear! However, I think it is important to note that if you want to shoot wildlife or anything else using a zoom, then you should keep in mind, that Arthur does not do this a whole lot. Me personally, I don't care too much for portrait, and I have little need for multiple wide angle lenses, so I would recommend having the Sony G OSS 70-350 4.5-6.3 or something similar. When I pair this with any of the three lenses you mentioned with the Sigma 18-50mm then I honestly have 99% of my shoots covered. It could be well complemented with a nice prime lens :) Great video!
According to Optical Limits the 11mm has massive distortion (8%). You just can't turn correction off for JPEGs - likely because it's meant to be used corrected.
@@RyanTsou-t4v I agree in terms of speed - but not in terms of image quality. Made some of my best 'wild life' shots with this lens. Just love the small size and weight when attached to an APSC body. Nevertheless, I wish Sony would release a mark II version of this lens, maybe with a constant f 3.5 (as a compromise between weight and speed).
@@RyanTsou-t4v Disagree with sharpness. I found it to be razor sharp edge to edge. Yes the speed is lacking but that is shared by many super telephoto lenses. Especially lenses that are nor insanely big and heavy. If you need a faster lense this one is not for you I agree. But I cannot see a comparable FF lense anywhere near that pricepoint and size that does better. Remember that you have the equivalent of 525mm FF in a relatively compact lense.
I love the victors lenses so much I’ve started using the 27mm on my RV as my main wedding lens - it’s just awesome! The images out of the 75 are also really special. I was really sceptical about buying them but took the chance and honestly been blown away by both.
Thank you! Interesting selection. There is no right or wrong lenses. Everything is contextually dependent. That is awesome that you have discovered your favourites. If you're on a tight budget but still want a reliable lens for all your photography needs, the Tamron 18-300 is a great pick. Thanks to its power zoom and constant aperture, the Sony 18-105 is incredibly versatile for filming. Obviously these do not cover all scenarios but are single lens solutions for many purposes. Viltrox 75mm seems to be worth to try.
i got a viltrox af 13mm 1.4 thats a good lens , but as i go into nature i like my tamron combi thatch the 18-300 e and the 150-500 fe , the last one is because it fits in my backpack easy , mobility is important because i travel by public transpoort , bus ore train ore walking 😊
Always nice to agree on a lens lineup. I chose longer over wider swapping the 11mm over the sony 70-350 but the rest is identical in my kit 😅 they are amazing lenses
I now have the Sony 16-55, Sigma 56, Sony 20mm 1.8 Fe. These cover pretty much all I do. But I did just add the TTArtisan 27mm 2.8 AF to see what all the fuss was about which may or may not be staying. A6700 body.
I bought the 16-55 sony 5 years ago and I still use it. I haven't had the need to buy another lens but I do want a small fix lens for street photography. I shoot at around 37mm (55mm) but I might need to try that Viltrox 27mm. Have you done a comparison with of that lens vs other fixed lenses?
I have the Sigma 18-50, Sigma 56, and the Viltrox 13mm. I felt that the Sony 11mm is just a little too wide for me, and 13mm is more visually interesting to me than the Sigma 16, as brilliant as that lens is. Now I just crave more, Sony 18-135, 70-350, Tamron 18-300. I need to get out and just shoot more
This was me exactly, the Sony seems to do a lot of in camera correction to come out as straight as it is whereas the viltrox 13mm does it all optically, and for some reason the idea of pixels being merged and stretched in order to correct an image doesn't make sense to me, the detail gets lost. But I wanted a wider field of view than say a standard phone camera which is 26 or 24, and the 13 was about as wide as I could find with straight lines on APSC. 13 being 19.5mm equivalent.
@@jeremyg9305 the Viltrox is great, I need to get out and shoot with it more. Honestly I've considered the sigma 10-18 as well lately, it's so compact and the Viltrox is so big in comparison, although still smaller than most FF lenses
If I select two lenses from the five I would go for Sony 15 mm, f1.4 and Sigma 18-50 mm, f 2.8 (if quality is more important than cost). Thanks, the valuable info, Arthur! 🙏
If quality is more important than cost then you would go for primes IMHO but the Sony 15mm is damn nice and I have been eyeing on it for landscape. Then again, Viltrox 13mm is also too nice at a cheaper price too so I still can't decide lol May be I will go for a telephoto range like 70-350mm next.
Nice list Arthur, great content and production, appreciate. I have the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 on my X-T4, and boy its wide, it's also large-ish but the X-T4 body takes it well. I'm considering the 15mm 1.4 for my A6700, I have had two Sigma 16mm 1.4, in the past, in fact bought them because of you. Loved that lens, but it's a stepper motor, Sony's Linear, quiet..... So, need to decide. Cheers Arthur.
Nice list! But i have a question about the telephoto lens pick. What about the sony 70-350mm f4.5-6.3? Yes it's expensive but it looks good. Am i missing something? Thanks.
If you want something with a reach on e-mount apsc, there's hardly any way around it. Sizewise its almost the same as the Viltrox 75mm, so its big but still small enough, that I carry it in my bag just in case I need it. I don't have any comparison to other Telephoto lenses, but there's nothing to complain about the optical performance. Silent, fast, sharp. The F6.3 means, that you will not catch a flying bird in the dusk/dawn or at night. But its still ok on a cloudy afternoon with a 1/2000 shutter. The only real downside is the prize, but even that is a bargain, if you compare it to similar lenses for fullframe. I can definetly reccomend it.
True but I still think it's great and only really proper telephoto available for APS-C. But looks like Sigma might release 50-140 or 50-135 f2.8 so fingers crossed. Also interested in that Laowa one
@@ArthurRThen it would be a 1.5kg lens and not 625g. Also, f2.8 on that lens would be to shallow DOF for a purpose that this lens is made for - try to catch a bird in flight with F2.8 and 350mm and pray that the whole bird is equally in focus. 70-350 is amazing lens!
I got the Sigma 16mm f1.4 because of this channel (and 1 other channel) for my a6000 and I can´t praise it, or thank you for introducing it to me, enough. i do landscape and astro with it and don´t think I´ll ever use some other
@@OffSurfaceAdventures 18-300 is a big lense which is on APC about 27-450 mm and therefore not a daily use lense. May on a safari you need 450 mm, but then you need a tripod too.
Certainly an interesting 5-lens lineup there, I certainly couldn't agree more with both the Sigma 16mm and the 18-50mm F2.8 as well. My only gripe with the 18-50 is that its not a 16-50 instead (the old Sony SAL1650 was a favourite in my a-mount days), there is just something special about the 16mm on aps-c. I have no experience with any Viltrox lenses but for one to knock the Sigma 56mm F1.4 off the list, that 75mm F1.2 must be very special indeed. Keep up the great work with the videos, take care. 👍👍
Running the two viltrox also in my lens line-up meanwhile. I would love to get rid off my Tamron 17-70 but there is not really something to replace it, while the Sigma 18-50 ends up at 50 any meanwhile my next lens to take things up at the long end is my Sigma 100-400 which would make it a gap from 50 to 100. We definitely need something to fill in here. I personally would add a zoom lens on the short end, either the Tamron 11-20 which I own or the Sigma 10-18.
I have the viltrox 27mm. I read all of the articles and reviews about this lens. All positive except for the size and the weight what really interested me is the focal length. 27 mm. On a crop sensor it comes out to about 40.5mm. that's actually to me for how I shoot a very versatile focal length. Shooting in low light is very comfortable with this lens. And it is really that sharp. But it's not clinical. It has a certain character. It rarely comes off of my X-T4 body.
What filter(s) do you tend to use when you're shooting out in the day time fully open at 1.2 - 1.8? I'm really thinking of upgrading my 6400 to the 6700 (or possibly save up more for full frame). I want the IBIS since my main lens, the Sigma 16 doesn't have any stabilization built in.
If price isn’t an issue for you I believe the absolute best and most versatile 5 lens kit would be: - Sony 16-55 F/2.8 G - Sony 70-350 F/4.5-6.3 G - Viltrox 27mm F/1.2 - Viltrox 75mm F/1.2 - Sony 15mm F/1.4 or Sigma 10-18 F/2.8.
i'm so glad that viltrox managed to get their design language to align with their strides in quality. it may seem like a small thing, but man those older lenses just screamed "cheap."
Thanks, Arthur! I’ve owned three of these: Sony 11/1.8 Sigma 18-50/2.8 Sigma 16/1.4 I’ve sold the Sigma though, because at the same distance, and when using Active Stabilization, you essentially get the same compression and fov as the Sigma 16. Been considering the Sigma 56 1.4 as my next lens, but those Viltroxes are very tempting. The “extra special” you mention is something I’ve been dreaming about. Hope to get one of them soon!
Here are the five fast prime lenses I use on my full-frame film cameras: 21mm f/1.4 35mm f/1.4 85mm f/1.4 135mm f/2 180mm f/2.8 Here are the five fast prime lenses I use on my APS-C digital cameras: 12mm f/2 16mm f/1.4 23mm f/1.4 56mm f/1.2 135mm f/2
Since I bought the tamron 18-300mm it's my always on lens. 300mm is perfect for wildlife and also portraits of people. 18mm has a very close focal distance. I sold the sigma 18 to 50 as it was not wide enough with 18 and also not tele zoom enough with 50.
The 27mm is more versatile, as it is in between 35 - 50mm full-frame equivalent focal range, which likely gets the most use. The 75mm however, combined with the f1.2 aperture, will give you the better compression and bokeh but is a more niche lens to use.
@@netizen_62. I can recommend you to watch the 2 reviews on these lenses by Dustin Abbott here on RUclips. Very in-depth reviews with lots of sample photos.
What would you say is the best all around lens for the Sony a6400 for taking family and landscape pictures in Hawaii (family photos, action photos, landscapes, sunrise/sunsets)?
Have the same body, had the same concerns - after tons of reviews I’ve got a Tamron 17-70mm. If you are planing some serious video work Sigma 18-50 lacks optical stabilization.
Hi Arthur, I got some question. which one do you choose for shoot video property like school building and big house. Sony 11mm F1.8 or samyang Af 12mm f2 ?
Hi Arthur, you said all of your photos taken were straight out of camera, no edit. Did you use PP for the photo? If yes, i appreciate if you can share your setting. Its look nice to me.
Great video and choices Arthur! I'm this close into ordering a Viltrox 75 but there's one thing that worries me: is it any good for video work? Wanna use it for my nightlife videos and at first the 1.2 sounded very promising.
The Sigma 18-50mm and the Sony 18-135mm keep me on APS-C. If not for them, I'd just go full frame since nearly all the nice fast APS-C primes will be as big or bigger than equivalent FF primes when accounting for higher ISO capability. The 27mm and 75mm Viltrox lenses for example are equivalent to a 40mm 1.8 and 107.5mm 1.8 respectively. The Samyang 45mm 1.8 FF lens is much smaller, lighter, and cheaper. The fast 107.5mm or any tele lens really is harder to find, let alone staying compact in FF. But the Viltrox 85mm 1.8 would be close enough in my opinion and that's also smaller, lighter, and cheaper. The Sigma 16mm 1.4 is big compared to the Samyang 24mm 1.8 but there's even more options at this wide end especially since f1.4 is appx f2.1 FF equivalent so less than a stop slower at f2.8 can save a lot of size. I just need to figure out if I'm more of a zoom person or a prime person long term. Right now I prefer zooms, but I'm also pretty amateur and producing a lot of mediocre pictures between good ones using zooms. So medium/long term I'll see what happens but I definitely think primes favor FF whereas compact zooms favor APS-C.
I’m thinking of switching from Fuji to Sony (XT5 to A6700). I use the 56, 33 and 23 (85, 50 and 35 equivalents). What 3 Sony lenses will give me those focal lengths?
My one-and-done lens is the Tamron 17-70mm 2.8. I was also considering the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 but because the Tamron is wider and has considerably more reach, has OIS, weather sealed and gives you better bokeh when zoomed-in (70mm vs 50mm of Sigma) then to me it was a no brainer. It is bigger but that doesn't really bother me. For the price, the Sigma is still an incredible choice though. For my street and low light, 23mm Sigma 1.4 -- for landscape Yongnuo 11mm 1.8. I wanted to consider the Viltrox but multiple shops told me that Viltrox is their most returned lens because it breaks in less than a year of use. They also receive multiple DOA Viltrox lenses. So I'm steering clear of the brand ... for now at least
I have the sigma prime trio. I find the 16mm to lack some clarity… granted, it’s much wider so my expectations should be different, but focus and sharpness seem to me to get better as the focal length gets longer from the 16 to 30 to 56mm, the longer being the crispest. Maybe it’s the bokeh fooling me.
Nice Seiko! BTW: FE lenses perrform beautifully on APSC bodies. Do you already have FE 1.8/85 mm in your bag? Great for portraits! My fav E lens is the 2.8/20mm. Snappy!
Excellent video as usual. But your sponsor Skillshare is a total miss. After I have clicked on the link it gave me a pop-up message that Arthur R wants to give me 30 days free trial. Ok, good. Then after accepting all preferences 3 or 4 times I finally log in and can not go past the pge where it wants the credit card details. On top of all that the “promised” 30 days now turned into 7 day trial. And there is no way to go and see what they offer before a commitment, like even a screenshot of the courses, lessons etc. justi FYI I have made a screenshot, but I am not seeing a way to upload that to youtube

Would you recommend the 27 over 56? It's vastly different focal lengths
It's the worst one of the Sigma trio. I'd pick 56 1.4 any day.
30mm Is better
The 30mm is all around the best as is more useful u don't need to get too far from the subject but the 56mm is unbelievable.
30mm is a better option
My a6700 setups includes:
Sony 16-55mm f/2.8
Sony 70-350mm
Viltrox 13mm f/1.4
If I were to add one it might very well be the Viltrox 75mm
Great list. Surprised these awesome zooms didn't get a mention:
- Sigma 10-18mm 2.8
- Sony G OSS 70-350 4.5-6.3
Agree with 70-350, it is very good AF with older bodies but with new a6700/FX30 AF is ridiculously precise and blazing fast.
Tamron 18-300 is even more underrated.
I am in a very similar situation. I have the 18-135.
I want to have two lenses and am torn between
Sigma 18-50
Sigma 30mm
Sigma 16mm
My top 5 selection:
Sigma 18-50 f2.8
Sigma 10-18 f2.8
Sigma 56 f1.4
Tamron 18-300
Viltrox 13 f/1.4
The good thing about 1.2 lenses on Apsc: you get the light and not the insane DOF. I love it and it's manageable!
I think the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 is missing here. I'd buy that over the mentioned Sony 11 and Sigma 16mm.
I use the Sony 18-135 (27-202 full equiv). It covered 85% of my photos on Oregon coast camping vacation. OSS, compact and light.
How are you finding the 70-350?
@@timfox5341 I haven’t used it a lot yet but I’m very happy with the field of view it provides for APS-C. I use a 200-600 on my full frame bodies for BIF and in combination with the A6700 i have it’s almost been almost as useful for a much lighter weight. Admit for me only time will tell but happy so far.
@@stevenwaldstein2249 Cheers.
Btw a 3rd pro lens in on the way, can't wait !
please be a wide focal big aperture, I will sell my 13 1.4 for that at a whim
I love your videos and how well you go through gear!
However, I think it is important to note that if you want to shoot wildlife or anything else using a zoom, then you should keep in mind, that Arthur does not do this a whole lot. Me personally, I don't care too much for portrait, and I have little need for multiple wide angle lenses, so I would recommend having the Sony G OSS 70-350 4.5-6.3 or something similar. When I pair this with any of the three lenses you mentioned with the Sigma 18-50mm then I honestly have 99% of my shoots covered. It could be well complemented with a nice prime lens :)
Great video!
As a Fuji shooter.. I went with both the Viltrox lenses the 27 & 75 and I love them 💯
According to Optical Limits the 11mm has massive distortion (8%). You just can't turn correction off for JPEGs - likely because it's meant to be used corrected.
No Sony APSC list is complete without the Sony 70-350 G.....that one is a must buy
Totally agree.
Why? It's not that fast and not some crazily sharp lens.
@@RyanTsou-t4vit is a very sharp lens. And a fast aperture isn’t everything.
The Sigma 18-50mm is a good choise IF 18mm is wide enough for you. I use 16mm a lot so the Sony 16-55mm is perfect for me.
Viltrox 75mm seems to be worth to try.
for telefoto i took the tamron 70-180 f2.8 fullframe gen 1 it is great
For zoom I use a tamron 70-300 because it's not too expensive. Yes it's a FF lens but it does the job well on my a6000!
Tamron 18-300 is better value.
i got a viltrox af 13mm 1.4 thats a good lens , but as i go into nature i like my tamron combi thatch the 18-300 e and the 150-500 fe , the last one is because it fits in my backpack easy , mobility is important because i travel by public transpoort , bus ore train ore walking 😊
Always nice to agree on a lens lineup. I chose longer over wider swapping the 11mm over the sony 70-350 but the rest is identical in my kit 😅 they are amazing lenses
Viltrox 27 & 75mm are such great lenses. Also for Fuji.
I need to get out and just shoot more
I have the 18-135 & 70-350....thats a complete package for travel
@@maddybaliga be still my wallet, that sounds great!
Is the new Sony ZV E10 Mark II combined with the Sony 11mm f1.8 lens a good combo for real estate photography?
Nice list! But i have a question about the telephoto lens pick.
What about the sony 70-350mm f4.5-6.3? Yes it's expensive but it looks good. Am i missing something? Thanks.
I like mine. I haven't used it as often once I started doing portraits. For wildlife and sport shots, definitely a keeper.
Sony 70-350mm?
If only it was an F2.8 or F4!
All you need is a zoom lens and an ultra wide prime lens. The tamron 17-70mm 2.8 and the viltrox 13mm 1.4
Great list. I love going out and shooting street with the Viltrox 75. Such a fun lens
I know both Viltrox lenses would be in your list, amazing lenses, sold my sigma 56 and 30 to get 27 and 75 Viltrox

Hi.... noticed you're suggesting 75mm Viktrox f1.2, just wondering have you tried out Yongnou 85mm f1.8, if yes, any opinion on it? TQ
BTW, purchased 18 50 Sigma after watching your video, loving it, only looking at a better portrait len
I got the Sigma 16mm f1.4 because of this channel (and 1 other channel) for my a6000 and I can´t praise it, or thank you for introducing it to me, enough. i do landscape and astro with it and don´t think I´ll ever use some other
The Sigma 18-50 is also a favourite of mine. Soon, I will receive the Yongnuo 11 mm F 1.8. Have you tried this one out? Love to see you do this one.
Would love to see a budget version of this. Some of the new chinese companies have crazy quality lenses for under $200.
It’s going to get there eventually. Not enough options at the moment. Especially zooms.
Okay Athur we get it, these are your top 5, but we still need the next 5
Hahahaha touché. Top 10 list is what you need!

Lens for macro?
Certainly an interesting 5-lens lineup there, I certainly couldn't agree more with both the Sigma 16mm and the 18-50mm F2.8 as well. My only gripe with the 18-50 is that its not a 16-50 instead (the old Sony SAL1650 was a favourite in my a-mount days), there is just something special about the 16mm on aps-c. I have no experience with any Viltrox lenses but for one to knock the Sigma 56mm F1.4 off the list, that 75mm F1.2 must be very special indeed. Keep up the great work with the videos, take care. 👍👍
Good food for thought in your choices, the Viltrox 75mm is on my list, the others, maybe! enjoyable video, as I've come to expect 🥳
Sony 16-55 is my go to lens unless I need a longer reach for sports, wildlife etc. Performance has been amazing across the board.
I agree. Certainly for video it is a bit better than the Sigma, for photography it's closer.
Great video as always. Thank you.
Those Viltrox lenses might pull me back into APS-C 😮
I have the viltrox 27mm. I read all of the articles and reviews about this lens. All positive except for the size and the weight what really interested me is the focal length. 27 mm. On a crop sensor it comes out to about 40.5mm. that's actually to me for how I shoot a very versatile focal length. Shooting in low light is very comfortable with this lens. And it is really that sharp. But it's not clinical. It has a certain character. It rarely comes off of my X-T4 body.
Arthur which one do you prefer, the sigma 56mm or viltrox 27mm?
What filter(s) do you tend to use when you're shooting out in the day time fully open at 1.2 - 1.8? I'm really thinking of upgrading my 6400 to the 6700 (or possibly save up more for full frame). I want the IBIS since my main lens, the Sigma 16 doesn't have any stabilization built in.
Usually I ride the shutter, but often I use a variable ND
The studio is getting some nice upgrades!
If price isn’t an issue for you I believe the absolute best and most versatile 5 lens kit would be:
- Sony 16-55 F/2.8 G
- Sony 70-350 F/4.5-6.3 G
- Viltrox 27mm F/1.2
- Viltrox 75mm F/1.2
- Sony 15mm F/1.4 or Sigma 10-18 F/2.8.
which has better image quality, wide prime lens or wide zoom lens? Such as Sony 11mm F/1.8 or Sigma 10-18mm F/2.8?
Great video as always. Can you please tell me why you chose Sigma 18-50 over Tamron 17-70?
Because of macro ability from sigma 1850.
i'm so glad that viltrox managed to get their design language to align with their strides in quality. it may seem like a small thing, but man those older lenses just screamed "cheap."
Thanks, Arthur!
I’ve owned three of these:
Sony 11/1.8
Sigma 18-50/2.8
Sigma 16/1.4
I’ve sold the Sigma though, because at the same distance, and when using Active Stabilization, you essentially get the same compression and fov as the Sigma 16.
Been considering the Sigma 56 1.4 as my next lens, but those Viltroxes are very tempting.
The “extra special” you mention is something I’ve been dreaming about. Hope to get one of them soon!
Here are the five fast prime lenses I use on my full-frame film cameras:
21mm f/1.4
35mm f/1.4
85mm f/1.4
135mm f/2
180mm f/2.8
Here are the five fast prime lenses I use on my APS-C digital cameras:
12mm f/2
16mm f/1.4
23mm f/1.4
56mm f/1.2
135mm f/2
I personally got the 15mm and I love it, the sigma just looks so huge compared to the sony
Since I bought the tamron 18-300mm it's my always on lens.
300mm is perfect for wildlife and also portraits of people.
18mm has a very close focal distance.
I sold the sigma 18 to 50 as it was not wide enough with 18 and also not tele zoom enough with 50.
Which is better, the 27 or the 75 mm?
The 27mm is more versatile, as it is in between 35 - 50mm full-frame equivalent focal range, which likely gets the most use. The 75mm however, combined with the f1.2 aperture, will give you the better compression and bokeh but is a more niche lens to use.

How about at 135-200mm? Which lens?
Great video and choices Arthur! I'm this close into ordering a Viltrox 75 but there's one thing that worries me: is it any good for video work? Wanna use it for my nightlife videos and at first the 1.2 sounded very promising.
Wow. Surprised the Sigma 56mm F1.4 didn't even make the list!
This is actually my list to build a kit and then buy a second body. I'll be happy when I have all of them
Is the Viltrox 27 stabilized?
What about the viltrox 13mm lens, I was thinking that’s good or better then the Sony 11m
Is there an APS-C equivalent of a 70-180 2.8 or 70-200 2.8?
Can we use Sony 35 1.4 GM lens on Sony A6700 APS-C camera? If so, do we get 35 mm focal length or 23mm (35/1.5)?
When is the 70-200 f2.8 APSC equivalent coming 😭😭
do you have any budget alternative for Sony 11mm? for zv-e10. I'm eyeing for samyang 12mm or Viltrox 13mm or YONGNUO 11mm
I am looking for a Tele lens as well.
What do you think of Tamron 70-180 f2.8 G2 for APSC?
Great video as always 🍻
Love that Seiko Sumo (I guess)❤
SPB - it’s one of my favorites.
@@ArthurR love that colour, 👌🏼
I have the sigma prime trio. I find the 16mm to lack some clarity… granted, it’s much wider so my expectations should be different, but focus and sharpness seem to me to get better as the focal length gets longer from the 16 to 30 to 56mm, the longer being the crispest. Maybe it’s the bokeh fooling me.
Nice Seiko!
BTW: FE lenses perrform beautifully on APSC bodies.
Do you already have FE 1.8/85 mm in your bag?
Great for portraits!
My fav E lens is the 2.8/20mm. Snappy!
Hey Arthur do you use promist filter ? Or Not ? That’s a nice collection of apsc lenses
I have a few, but I don’t use them!
Oh okay I watching your video of the sigma 50mm. Thanks for your pronto respond
I was hoping Viltrox 13mm 1.4 will be in your list.. care to share why? 😊
The Sony 11mm. The Viltrox 13 is great, but in my mind having an 11, 13, and 16 is redundant.
