I wanted to buy the Sigma for a long time, but i waited since viltrox released the 27mm for fuji. I need to know now if the extra weight, size, price and aperture of the viltrox is really worth it in direct comparison to sigma 23mm.
Ive got the Viltrox 75 1.2 recently, and I was blown away by its sharpness and crazy bokeh. I will absolutely add this 27 1.2 to my shopping list as well soon.
Hey can u please tell now Af working fine in sony camera for video because i heart its autofocus very slow for video ...and it is worth to buy for video ?
I got this lens 2 weeks ago and I really love it. There is one Sony feature missing though: AF Assist. When in AF mode, Sony has a mode that allows you to manually fine-tune the focus with the focus ring. This lens doesn't have it. I wrote an email to Viltrox and I kid you not, a week later they sent me an updated firmware and it works now! Other than the developers, I might be the only person in the world who has this feature lol.
So there is an issue with the viltrox 27mm where if you switch from f4 to f4.5 and back to f4 it doesnt actually change to f4. the blades dont move this is a serious issue and im not the only one who has had this problem. same thing happens at f5 to f5.6
@@ES-pt9te Oh I didn't know this. I sent them an email about the AF Assist issue and surprisingly enough they sent me an updated firmware with the issue fixed. It took about 1 or 2 weeks. I'm sure if you let them know about this problem they will fix it too.
@@alex--.--I think it is a firmware issue that they have missed and has still not been fixed through the updated firmwares that they have made. I love this lens so I hope when they see my email they fix this for everyone because I think every copy has the same issue.
@@ES-pt9te I can confirm the behaviour, I tried now and I can clearly see that going from f4 to f4.5 closes the blades, while going back to f4 doesn't open them at all. It's definitely a firmware issue. While we're here, I wanted to ask if you use the focus ring. Is it smooth? Mine is, but sometimes when the lens is in a very warm place, it gets stuck at some point. It rotates, but then at some point in the rotation, it gets pretty stiff. When the lens cools down, it comes back to normal. It's winter now and it's not a big problem, but I'm worried about the summer. I use manual focus in video shooting a lot, when it becomes stiff it's almost unusable.

Thank you for the review. I pre-ordered this lens when it was announced and have now had it for awhile. Made the decision to get it based on the 75/1.2 that I got for my A6700. Really like ~40mm lenses and glad to see this focal length for APS-C even though it’s a little heavier. The A6700 + 27/1.2 is still lighter in some cases than a full size body + GM so I’m giving it a try. So far so good. Take care.
Finally!!! I have always trusted your reviews and recommendations ever since I purchased the Sigma 30mm F1.4 nearly 7 years ago, and yours have never failed to impress. Please do a comparison review between this Viltrox. the Sigma 30mm, Sony 35mm, and Sigma 23mm. My purchase will absolutely depend on your judgment.
I’ve been using it for a month on the X T3. The build quality is excellent, it has heft (the Sigma 30mm feel and looks like a toy next to it), and the picture IQ is obscenely good.
I got Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and 75mm f1.2 and I’m more than impressed with the sharpness, autofocus, weather sealing on 75mm model and their firmware updates. I would even go as far as saying that it’s better than equivalent sigma models on my sony 6400
Viltrox is so underrated. Their pro lenses look great,:Take great pictures, and they are priced right! I can't wait until they make a pro zoom lens. Maybe a 16-75 f2.8 with VC 🙏🏾
I was able to take the first pictures with this lens on March 2nd. I pre-ordered it in December! And YES, you are absolutely right! It's a wonderful lens. Adding to your words in the video, it has incredible low light performance! It works well on my a6700 and also on the ZV-E10! After this powerful lens, I ordered the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 to have the complete holy trinity of Viltrox (along with the 13mm F1.4). Thanks for your review!
That comparison with the Sigma 23mm 1.4 would be a great follow up video. Not sure if the old Sigma 30mm has a tiny spot or mention in that video. The pictures in this video are very sharp 🤤 What is the 1.2 equivalent to when compared to full frame? 2.0? Great video as always Arthur 👌🏼
It's equivalent to a 40.5mm f1.8, which is quite nice. I have the Sigma 23mm so I'm interested as well to see, but I imagine it does better at the cost of size and weight.
Viltrox, Kenko, Hoya... all three brands belong to Tokina group. So, none of them is a rookie in the business of optics and imagery. Thank you for your work, and keep in mind you are helping many users... including professionals, including from distant territories. ✋️🙂👌
After watching your review of the Viltrox 75mm F1.2, I bought that for my a6700 and it's definitely my favorite lens, when I can use it given the focal length. Looks like next time I think about buying a lens it'll be this one, having both the 27 75mm focal lengths would make a nice pair.
Hi, Wanted to know if there are any updates on af performance after firmware update 1.0.4 in dec 23 as people say that it was not reliable for fast moving subjects like birds in the very first firmware? I am in the market for buying one. I currently have sigma 18-50 f2.8 for my a6700, looking to have a prime now-- confused between sigma 56 f1.4 and the this viltrox 75. Performance wise 56 seems to be reliable. Wether sealing, image quality wise viltrox seems better. Also this will add a bigger focal length for my use.
Just got this used, took it out for a shoot, updated the firmware to fix some issues, and now I've concluded it's an incredible lens. Thank you for the recommendation! It'll replace my Sigma 30mm f1.4, which is also a great lens, that I also got recommended partly from this channel. However, the image quality that the Viltrox provides was worth the switch for me, considering that it's a very useful focal length that I frequently use. I've used my Sony 90mm Macro quite a bit because its sharpness was something I couldn't quite get from my other lenses, until now. I also happen to often like the vignetting it produces at wider apertures, although the lens corrections can counter this if desired.
@@ന്യൂയോർക് This was from Rajala Pro Shop, but they don't have any used copies listed now. I got it for the equivalent of 465 dollars (the price for a new one in Sweden is at least 675 dollars). Thanks for the nice and practical reviews! I've been thinking about switching systems - from Nikon Z, to wether CAnon or Sony. Now I know to what system I'm going to pick for me!
Really like your videos with your lovely family. This 27mm/A6700 combo is exactly what I've been considering. Mostly entrenched in M43 however the excellent AF of Sony leading me there...and 40mm focal length is perfect. thanks
I bought this and use it on my A6500, the close focus does not feel like 28cm, more like 20 maybe. In any case, I fully recommend this thing to anyone. The only negative about it is the focus hunting. My Sigma 30/1.4 is much more confident.
Does the focus hunting happen in photography? My Sigma 30mm had a terrible autofocus performance when I was using it with my A5100. The problem was only fixed after I upgraded to an A6400. Would love to hear more of your insights regarding the autofocus performance of the Viltrox 27mm.
@@paulhernandez346 it does, but it's different to what the sigma has on 6500, which has worse AF than the 6400. For me, the firmware update on the sigma fixed a lot of issues, and is great on this camera, and I feel that the viltrox was improved with their firmware update as well. I don't think it's that bad, you will notice it sometimes but less on a 6400 than 6500. I can't say if it will lose you a people shot on the street, but for usual snaps it works well enough.
I am a fan of Viltrox lenses. I currently have the 33mm F1.4 which you reviewed 3 years ago. It practically lives on my a6100. Although i find that the autofocus is not quite as fast as the Sony SEL35mm prime lens.
This lens seems soo good. I can’t wait to get mine! You took some nice photos with yours. If you do a comparison with the 23mm, would it be interesting to also add a 33mm lens to compare with? Then you’d have the full frame equivalent of 35mm, 40mm and 50mm to compare.
I purchased both the 27mm and 75mm lenses and love them both. The lenses are crazy sharp, the colors are awesome with great contrast and the bokeh is very creamy. I use them on my A6700 and A6600 bodies. Highly recommended.
Finally I found someone who uses an A6600… if you could answer me this, I’ll be super grateful: So, man I have the A6600 and the sigma trio, 16/30/56 F1.4 lenses. But idk, I feel like I’m not giving my best with the 16mm and 30mm, then I decided to sell them both to buy the viltrox 27mm F/1.2, this is already decided, but I have this huge question on my mind: do you think I have to switch up my camera as well (A6600) to the A6700 to get the best out of the viltrox? Because if I decide to get the a6700 I’ll probably need to sell my sigma 56mm as well… my style is cinematic photos and videos. What do you think? Ps: thank you already.
I pre-ordered this after being somewhat astounded with the 75mm f1.2. It's on my camera most of the time. I also own the amazing 13mm f1.4. I would love if viltrox tackled a zoom lens. I put them up against Sigma now, which is crazy how quickly they have come up the ranks.Ipair this with my A6700.
@@gamadrid I bypassed the 16mm for the 13mm, so I can't answer this. But compared to the 30mm and the 56 mm, it's as good or better. I wanted a wider lens than the 16mm, and, at least not now, I use it for photos. But I'm more than impressed by it. There's a richness to it. Viltrox has a personality. And of course, he shrpness if top notch.
APSC is gaining more and more sense with these kind of optics like the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 and 75mm f1.2. I really start to think that APSC might be actually the sweet spot of the sensor sizes.
Your reviews never bore me! Btw I'm pretty sure many of us are more curious to see how it compares to the 8yo Sigma 30mm than to the 23mm. Is viltrox much sharper?? Let's find out!
I just bought this lens right after watching this review 2 weeks ago, and as somebody who used the Sigma 30mm for 7 years, I can tell you there is just no comparison as far as image quality is concern. This lens is just otherworldly sharp, has significantly less barrel distortion and CA, and performs slightly better in terms of autofocus. The build quality is also far superior with the exception of the flimsy lens hood. The only area that the Sigma is better is portability and weight due to the Viltrox weighing more than twice and being much larger than the Sigma.
Great review. I have a Sony Zeiss 24mm f1.8 for photo only, do you think the picture quality is way better on this Viltrox lens? Is it worth to upgrade? Thanks
an appropriate first lens would be the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, but if you want a single prime lens to be your only lens, this is a perfect option in my opinion.. unless you prefer wider lenses.. then go for the 16 mm or the 23 mm f/1.4 from Sigma
Hey, can you please help with comparison with 75 mm f1.2 by Viltrox. I have 75 f1.2 from Viltrox but planning to buy this so wanted comparison if there is difference
Please check out a few more lenses from Kamlan. You seemed a fan of the 50mm v2, but seems you've stopped following the brand altogether. There's a 70mm 1.1 that seems quite tasty.
I will appreciate it if u give a comparison of FE24 F1.4GM, Sigma 23 F1.4 and this lens on the APSC camera, which would be quite interesting i guess. Thanks a lot for this video.
For its focal length which use for daily and general purpose this lens is heavy. I wouldn’t mind the 75 bigger and heavier since it has specific purpose but this lens make me want it but not sure if it is comfortable for main/daily lens
@@rsat9526 THX for your feedback. I have owned the 30mm for a few now and still love it, so i guess our opinions differ, lol :) This Viltrox does look amazing but it's quite a bit bigger and heavier then the 30mm but it does have some nicer features for sure.
The Sigma is a very capable lens. I own both the Sigma and the Viltrox. I'm going to keep the Sigma for size and weight, but, since I purchased the Viltrox, I haven't used the Sigma.
Depends on how much you use it. For the money and for the size, the Sigma 30mm is still very capable and a bargain. Its not as good as newer sigmas and these viltrox lenses, but its still very good.
Please do Viltrox 27mm v. Sigma 56mm. I have this lens, and am looking for my second lens. Sigma 56mm f1.4 is probably the best contender to this lens, it's just that Sigma 56mm is 4 year old now, i feel like i must anticipate the newer version. Thanks!
Man, I gotta say this to you: the viltrox pro 27mm F/1.2 is way better! This lens not only goes toe to toe with the Sony FE 24mm F/1.4 GM in daylight, but it’s even better in lowlight due to its F/1.2! Now considering that the Sony 24mm F/1.4 GM is considered the best lens for almost every person who have it and uses it on a full frame body, imagine an even superior lens FOR APSC, specifically for the A6700, which has the best specs from full frame’s on an apsc body.
Hi Arthur, I have a a6000 and just picked up a ZV-E10 and want to replace the kit lens. The Viltrox looks like it might be a good place to start. What lens would you recommend for someone shooting a bit of landscape, architecture, on the street and also one for video. Thanks
Incredible lens, two problems with it: first the hood that does not stick to the lens, second the autofocus which does not work very well, especially in continuous mode.
Would you recommend buying this lenses for a full frame camera like the A7C2 and using it with a crop? For me the price and size are really worth but I’m not sure about the crop.
It is, though, massive and as a result is actually heavier than say an S5 ii and their 35mm 1.8 that’s a rough equivalent… which makes me feel it’s defeating the point of APSC a little bit
I remember watching a video of you were explaining about focal lengths. you were showing examples by using a full frame camera with apsc lens first and then full frame camera with full frame lens and how the apsc lens produces the same size image on the sensor as full frame lens but has a vignette. I cant find that video, can someone point me to that video?
Its chonky as a GM FF prime though. For people who shoot both APSC and FF, the appeal of APSC is portability. I've kept my APSC lenses after going FF because I like having a lightweight, portable setup which has a big enough sensor to do 80-90% of what FF can. Take away the portability and what you are left with is a less capable lens without the size and weight savings.
What is the comparison between this and sony G master 24 mm, I already own 24 G master and Sigma 30 mm , I’m just wondering how it would fit in the toolbox? Should I get it or would I just be wasting money for similar focal distance.
We need that full comparison with the Sigma 23mm
Would like to see a comparison to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 as well.

Do you prefer the viltrox 13mm over the sigma 16mm?
@@gamadrid I bypassed the 16mm for the 13mm, so I can't answer this. But compared to the 30mm and the 56 mm, it's as good or better. I wanted a wider lens than the 16mm, and, at least not now, I use it for photos. But I'm more than impressed by it. There's a richness to it. Viltrox has a personality. And of course, he shrpness if top notch.
please do comparison with the sigma 23mm f1.4
Excellent as usual!!!
Thanks for the great video! Please compare it with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 as well if you can, as it is also very close in focal length!
Please do the sigma comparison! Hope this makes Sigma update their aps c offerings
Full comparison please. Thank you for this awesome video.
APSC is gaining more and more sense with these kind of optics like the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 and 75mm f1.2. I really start to think that APSC might be actually the sweet spot of the sensor sizes.
Photo only, how does the lens work for video? F1.2 would mean a lot to FX30 owners...
you sold me on that combo set-up!, what’s a similar lens for a sony A7Cii??
Maybe the Sigma 40mm ART? Its big though.
We need to see a video abbout viltrox 27mm 1.2 vs sigma 30mm 1.4
Great review. I have a Sony Zeiss 24mm f1.8 for photo only, do you think the picture quality is way better on this Viltrox lens? Is it worth to upgrade? Thanks
Hello, Arthur!
Do you recommend this for a very first lens for a6700?
an appropriate first lens would be the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, but if you want a single prime lens to be your only lens, this is a perfect option in my opinion.. unless you prefer wider lenses.. then go for the 16 mm or the 23 mm f/1.4 from Sigma
@@Ra-Hul-K Thank you!
Agreed. I have both the sigma 23mm and 18-50, and love both of them, can't go wrong either way!
Wow been waiting for your reviews beside Mark Bennett!.
Haha. I was waiting too!!
All of my contacts at Kamlan quit or got fired i guess. I'll keep trying to reach out to them.
Excellent lens indeed.
I will appreciate it if u give a comparison of FE24 F1.4GM, Sigma 23 F1.4 and this lens on the APSC camera, which would be quite interesting i guess. Thanks a lot for this video.
these 2 lenses- the 27 and 75 1.2 pros are next level. These give you everything you want from Full frame but on APS-C. No compromises
For its focal length which use for daily and general purpose this lens is heavy. I wouldn’t mind the 75 bigger and heavier since it has specific purpose but this lens make me want it but not sure if it is comfortable for main/daily lens
Please compare with Sigma 30mm f1.4
I want a comparison with Sigma 56mm f1.4. Which is the sharpest of the two?
Wow! Watching your videos makes me want to shoot with APS-C more and more.
In depth comparison with Sigma 23mm, please!
Great video, yes please compare sharpness with sigma 56mm F1.4 APSC
Is it worth getting if you already own a Sigma 30mm 1.4 ? Great video as usual Arthur. Cheers from Canada! - Brett
IMHO, Yes, Sigma 30mm is bad and old compared to a new one like this. It suffers from CA and it isnt as sharp. ps. I used to have 30mm Sigma.
Thanks!
I'd love to see it compared to the Sigma 30mm 1.4
I'm using the Sony 20mm 1.8 Fe lens on my A6700. I wonder how this compares?
Man, I gotta say this to you: the viltrox pro 27mm F/1.2 is way better! This lens not only goes toe to toe with the Sony FE 24mm F/1.4 GM in daylight, but it’s even better in lowlight due to its F/1.2! Now considering that the Sony 24mm F/1.4 GM is considered the best lens for almost every person who have it and uses it on a full frame body, imagine an even superior lens FOR APSC, specifically for the A6700, which has the best specs from full frame’s on an apsc body.
I love this lens
Hi Arthur, I have a a6000 and just picked up a ZV-E10 and want to replace the kit lens. The Viltrox looks like it might be a good place to start. What lens would you recommend for someone shooting a bit of landscape, architecture, on the street and also one for video. Thanks
Very good lens. I use it as my smaller set up. THE lens hood is a complete failure. But the great optics and price make it tolerable.
Gonna buy this lens!
I already have Sigma 30mm, I'm wondering is it worth it to upgrade to this lens
where is the traditional video test? Is it really that bad?
i really like metal focus and zoom rings instead of those rubber rings which will come loose after some time.
Make a comparison on "Sigma 30mm 1.4 vs Viltrox 27mm 1.2"
hello, is there any chance that u will review the new AF Meike 50mm 1.8 e mount?
Incredible lens, two problems with it: first the hood that does not stick to the lens, second the autofocus which does not work very well, especially in continuous mode.
Would you recommend buying this lenses for a full frame camera like the A7C2 and using it with a crop? For me the price and size are really worth but I’m not sure about the crop.
I dont think i would, id look at getting a 35mm full frame lens.
Help: when I mount this lens on the a6000 and set aperature to f1.2, on camera display f1.3 is shown. Is this a bug?
Why is this lens not available on Canon mount yet?
Still wanting that comparison vs sigma 23!!!
Could you please upload sirui 23 mm vs sigma 16mm comparison video
Hi Arturo! Would you recommend the viltrox 27mm 1.2 PRO over the sigma 56mm 1.4?
Two different lenses for two different purposes. Portraits: Sigma. Street/walkaround lens: Viltrox. The sigma is half the size.
Please compare it with Sigma 30mm. It's gonna be an epic battle!
Hi ,it will work on Fullframe?
Comparison please. Also throw in a third lens
Which one is better to buy in 2024 sony 6400 or wait for zv e10 ii ,
Not for me, but have to say that I am impressed with the results. I am too much of a sucker for the FE 35mm F1.8 on a FF for that type of thing..
How about viltrox lense for full frame with code : lab?
Which u think is the best, this or a samyang 24mm t1.9?
Another great option for the APS-C crowd
It is, though, massive and as a result is actually heavier than say an S5 ii and their 35mm 1.8 that’s a rough equivalent… which makes me feel it’s defeating the point of APSC a little bit
Hey y’all, I’m torn between buying this lens for the a6300 and pairing it with my 35mm 1.8, or just upgrade to A7cii full frame and start from there?
I remember watching a video of you were explaining about focal lengths. you were showing examples by using a full frame camera with apsc lens first and then full frame camera with full frame lens and how the apsc lens produces the same size image on the sensor as full frame lens but has a vignette. I cant find that video, can someone point me to that video?
I think the Sigma 30 comparison would be more fair.
Very enticing in terms of image quality and the look it offers; but a bit too bulky and heavy for my use case.
Image Size 28,3mm ? What does that mean ?
anyone using it with a6000?
Have I missed the price?
Its chonky as a GM FF prime though. For people who shoot both APSC and FF, the appeal of APSC is portability. I've kept my APSC lenses after going FF because I like having a lightweight, portable setup which has a big enough sensor to do 80-90% of what FF can.
Take away the portability and what you are left with is a less capable lens without the size and weight savings.
Lense good.
Photos too good.😊
What is the comparison between this and sony G master 24 mm, I already own 24 G master and Sigma 30 mm , I’m just wondering how it would fit in the toolbox? Should I get it or would I just be wasting money for similar focal distance.
I agree: a comparison between this Viltrox 27 f1.2 and Sony's FF 24 f2.8 on APSC would be great ....
