Thank God for Oscar Peterson,It really lifts my spirits when I am depressed, for I feel very depressed about myself, but his music lifts me to a different world.
Oscar Peterson’s music saved my life! Pulled me out of the deepest depressions. Once I had the chance to shake his hand and thank him for that, then saw tears in his eyes… Stay strong, my friend, and cry, laugh, and enjoy his music 🙏🏽
Peterson’s rendition is always so buoyant of life, confidence in the victory of light and surfing on the hardware side of life, barely touching it) Lots of wisdom.
There are masters and maestros and then there’s Oscar Peterson who can almost levitate one with his virtuosity and grandiosity. Rest in Peace great one.
I don't know how many time I've watched this and Oscar's solo kills me every time. I think Oscar even surprises himself. NHOP is so great too, too, the way he locks in with Oscar at 5:30.
What makes Oscar Peterson so great is that every time I listen to him I can't stop smiling! He is the indescribable ability to play perhaps one or two notes which just make you feel giddy and immensely happy. And this piece is no exception... Although listen to his version of Easy Listening Blues with The Trio to truly understand why he's practically all I listen to!
I used to drive all over the country to dig OP concerts. London House in Chicago, Mr. Kelleys, Freddies in Mpls, etc..... What a man, music just flowed out of him. Ray Brown was great on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums. Oscar you will always be number one right next to Gene Harris another fav of mine. Love you all. Rango8
Ahh the famous Nat King Cole gliss... Watch Nat King Cole's Route 66 live performance here on youtube. He does the same. Of course Oscar made it a tad fancier. The way only he could do ;)
Oh my goodness. Pure ingenuity and granularity. Hehehehehe!!!! excellence blended with artistic mastery. Oscar took me to this Wonderland !!!!! Just too marvellous for words
You know, on all videos like this I usually live the same comment , how people can dislike it? I still don't get it. This is magic as pure as it can be
Why do we have to lose such greats !!! his talent will live on in his recordings but I miss the man already as I know we'll never see him but he's with his mate Art Tatum now. RIP Oscar
Oscar Peterson's "Nigerian Marketplace" was the first jazz album i listened to. It hearts to hear about the fact he passed away but he's inspiration and music will never pass away. Sleep well oscar.
Wow indeed. They are having so muchn fun. This is was it is all about. Ectasss I heard NØPH and Oscar Peterson at the Ronnie Scott in London about 7 years ago. This brings it all back. I am sad that we lost them both. Atleast we have youtube to bring some of it back.
This is classic Oscar who is supported and enhanced by Martin, Niels, and Joe who are masters in their own right. I have this recording on a CD entitled "Return To Happiness" which was part of a JATP concert in Tokyo, 1983. It is 2 disc set and includes many other s such as Ella, Clark Terry, Zoot Sims.. Thanks for the posting.
R.I.P Oscar P. Glad to have met you in real life. It was one of the greatest moments of my life to shake your hand and talk to you. Im sure you are jammin´ it up with the other jazz-cats in jam-session-heaven!
I literally can't get enough - I have watched this 14 times! Never fails to please, though... (Oh, and by the way - it only says it was written only by Sam Fain, not Bob Hilliard)
ARG i accidently pressed one star when i was trying to click play to repeat the song again.. my bad. No matter what star rating Peterson gets, he always gets one of the highest rating in my heart when it comes to music.
such a precise finger slide at 3:22. I got to know Oscar Peterson audibly before I ever saw him play. Watching him play brings my amazement to a new level. Makes me wish I would of spent the money at the blue note to go see him before he passed.
to understand the psychology of people who hate something that doesn't emit anything harmful, while still coming on here, is to understand the reason why the world hangs in the balance. i'm sure if there was a hate icon instead of a dislike icon, it would have been clicked 9 times.
The 37 dislikes 👎 due to the poor quality of the video and sound... The performance itself is flawless ... Thanks to all these great musicians for raising the bar
Maybe those who "dislike" jazz have never been in love before or had not had a sexy evening with their loved one before. Who knows, but you're point is well taken from me!
Here was a man who had great respect for his jazz past, but was clearly listening to the pianists of the present. I'm serious - Bill Evans comes to mind in the choice of repertoire here and elsewhere.
And my name is "Oscar Pieter" :P A Dutch name, but i was named after Oscar Peterson by my dad who's a big fan. But you can refer Peterson in Holland to Pieter.
The very best thing about RUclips is Oscar Peterson!
Thank God for Oscar Peterson,It really lifts my spirits when I am depressed, for I feel very depressed about myself, but his music lifts me to a different world.
Have a good read of “the Power of Now”
Buddy. It will give you the real lift you need, I promise you.

You guys have amazing experiences, Oscar Peterson was next level. I wish I could have met him…but his music always gets me out of the hole.

one and only NHOP!!
Very Thanks

Stunningly melodic and technically peerless! The absolute master!

まさにピアノの帝王。
こんなに楽しそうに弾かれちゃ、こっちまで笑ってしまう。
オスカーの超絶技巧と美音は昔から好きでした。

Not to take anything away from any other amazing moment in this performance but i probabally watched the lick at 3 min 20 sec about 1000 times.
Yep! I saw it too! The finger knows exactly at which key to brake!!!!

Effen amazing .......that about sums it up. Love love love u Mr. Peterson. He tore it up! 😊
Wonderful! What a peer: Peterson and Pass playing togheter the beautiful melodie of Disney's tune.
What a player, what a performance. He wrote a great music exercise book on improvisation too. Every musician should use it for sight reading practice.
did he?

Joe Pass is smokin' in this one. This is perhaps my favorite standard.
I just heard bill Evan's play this and of course it was great, but Oscar's version is my favorite

I saw Oscar with Ella and Count Basie in '77, what one hell of a show! Oscar was my favorite! RIP! ~Judy

Yes, Bob Hillliard wrote the lyrics only for 1951 Disney movie. This is an instrumental performance of Fain’s composition. No lyrics here
I love that moment when Martin and Niels turn to each other and smile 5:55
Wow! What a load of energy!!

Someone once asked OP, "Say, man, do you know Tatum?" Response: "Yeah... he calls me 'son'".
