@@adrimstyler I spoke to the bass player on this (Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen) in the early 2000s Pipoliini, in the interval at Ronnie Scott's, where he was playing in a duo setting with Mulgrew Miller). He said that Oscar had unfortunately lost most of his left hand facility after the stroke. That's why he always took a top guitarist on tour with him when he came back, because it just helped fill out the chord voicings and enhanced the soloing capacity within the group. He always loved playing with guitarists anyway (Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Herb Ellis and, of course, Lorne Lofsky here).

At some point, with therapy he was able to play some simple 3rd and 7th voicings, but without much rhythmic content, compared to what he did before the stroke. he would just lay a couple fingers down for a bar. or two. So, probably, really, 95%, gone.

Oscar Peterson remains (to me) one of the most entertaining pianists to listen to. His style is unmatched, and it's so lively. I can only listen to so much McCoy or Keith Jarrett or the like, but I absolutely love listening to Oscar. The only other pianist I can think of that I enjoy just as much is Bill Evans

For awhile now, I've been playing other Jazz recordings & Big Bands, too. Now I have come back to my old friend Oscar Peterson. I can't count the many times I have played this recording through the years. It doesn't matter because each time I listen to it is like the very first time. This clip combines two special treats - his magnificent style with one of my all-time favourite jazz melodies, the great tune by Harry Warren, né Salvatore Antonio Guaragna, one of the most gifted songwriters of all times.

You notice when that left hand is not there but it does not matter, this man was the ultimate for me. Met him once. He was not in the mood for an interview that day, but hey..."He was Oscar"... Was amazing just to be in his presence...

Oscar with his impeccable technique has established a unique style and striking so that it could differentiate itself from many other geniuses of the same instrument. In the jazz genre has existed perhaps as many musicians of the highest competence than any other genre but of course, in classical music as well.

@keyzitis There was a vocal and piano playing before the Gypsy Jazz string guys who are the best in Chicago about to perform. The Pianist was dead on perfect, and he was "with " the music too. When they concluded, the singer introduced the guy as some one he just performed with for the very first time. Blew me away. You may have to travel a little, but try to follow up the roomers for talent in your area or region. There are a lot of unknowns who are great too. Norbert

After the stroke Oscar came back by The Grace of God and Oscar's severe love of his will to play. I'm back on piano again but maybe on trombone again.

Oscar could play better than a million piano players using only one hand! He was and still is, my favorite jazz pianist in the world.

In Ottawa in Canada there is a wonderful statue of him sitting at the piano with his music playing on a loop. It's great .
