Every musician has a technical limit but Peterson's can't be detected by the humam ear, and his creativity is limitless. The looks on the faces of Pederson and Drew when he's improvising through Caravan says it all. Never be another one like Oscar Peterson. Never be another time in music like then.
The way Neil's played that bass in love ballade was breathtaking and the drummer was Sooo Intune with he and Oscar.. I kept going back to Neil's part then I said to myself let the song play 😂😂😂.
Nobel prizes for jazz piano? Today's younger crowd of people discovering this artistry for the first time might need time to absorb this phenomenal talent. This is not available in the Cliff Notes version of jazz piano history no matter how fast you turn the pages and read. There is not a convenient short cut to getting to the finale of this improvisation. You have to listen to the entire performance. Go through your list of suitable favorite adjectives and put them in their superlative forms for coming close to describing this performance. It can not be easily done. Notice that this music is not played in retail stores for entertaining the customers. Be thankful for something! OMG.
He plays the piano with fantastic order, competence and confidence. He knows the instrument perfectly. With a huge heart. He almost cries under the piano. He has never been and never will be a better pianist.
Pay attention to he bassist. You can not afford to skip hearing this just for a second cup of coffee. Readjust your musical markings and select a different terrain for discovering more like this This is sparkling and beautiful and remarkably fresh in every sense of the word.
On a quiet Struday morning....no music in my street...al of the windows and doors open....Tha Hymn of Freedom......(used to sing tenor in a choir) from te Anglican Hymn Book...This one brought a sweet eye or two...
Ah yes. That glorious Hymn to Freedom. I got it onto Radio NZ in their slot Greatest Song Ever Written. And yes, the Anglican hymnal. I'm still trusting in Jesus.
Fascinating. Deeply felt interpretation for instance in BUT BEAUTIFUL and in the Ellington medley, for me fascinating the out of tempo kind of classical lines and runs between the melody phrases. Beautiful improvisation of piano in LOVE BALLAD and also of the bass in this peace, as always of the incredible NHØP. Could say so much further, that pleases me of that music, for instance the joy in the beginning chords and the theme of CARNIVAL, the great run that opens BUT BEAUTIFUL (wish him playing it or a similar one more often or in other pieces)....
We have made this same request before .Conduct a study of improvisation on the key board among three stylists considered to be so good as jazz pianists last century. Peterson and Garner and Tatum. Whose limited knowledge of music propelled him to reach greater accomplishments? DId accompaniment by two others take anything away from the performance by the three men? Which one did the most for embellishing a standard tune? Which one made lasting contributions for improvisation in jazz? Who was the best improvisor for jazz piano music? Who did the most for presenting current music and for embellishing standard tunes? Where was Tatum aligned for measuring up to these two piano titans for jazz creativity? Chronology will play a part. Come back with your answers soon.

Oscar's' music is conducive to meditation for me. Something powerful and deliberately silent and spiritual at the same time. Wonderful!
