Here's the beef. No filler, no artificial ingredients. Make no mistake, every jazz pianist that ever walked the face of the earth wishes they could play like this. I met him when I was 12 and he made the Maitre' D allow me into the club which had an age restricition. A true gentleman. And a true genius.
Look how happy Oscar is playing his piano! He truly is having fun and loves entertaining people! His smile is so heartwarming. I love this man! His fingers just fly across those keys. SYLVIA - FL -06/12/2018
They are all brilliant but I just love the way in which Drew gets into the grove and relentlessly stays there. As a Brit, I have always been so proud to have a world class drummer like Martin as one of us. Martin just loved playing with Oscar.
CAUTION' Use only as directed by your music teacher. Intentional misuse of Oscar Peterson solos while smoking dope can result in loss of consciousness or death.
In music, some say less is more. Regarding Oscar, more is more. Genius. Was fortunate to see him perform at the Claremont Hotel, S.F around 1983. Unforgetable
I have been listening to Oscar Peterson since the age of 10,and since then I have never looked back, all those years ago when I first listened to him at 10,I was awestruck, and at the age of 55 it still has the supernatural magic. The real difference in his playing compared to others is that it has a superior finesse and perfection, every note and phrase is played with care,I would describe him as an analogue player, analogue means everything captured to perfection,a true genius.
Why isn’t this a national anthem ? . Ten times better than glory , victory and HE is on our side . This would anybody stand up and be proud of just how we (as humans ) we should be . Praise HE for the beauty of music . "". .
It puts me in such a trance, it's hard for me to believe human beings can play like them, especially Oscar, but holy mackerel, what, players. This knocks me so far out of my seat, I can't even find my seat anymore. Thank God for Oscar Peterson. Marc Trainor.
Oscar is backed by Niels Pederson on bass and Martin Drew on drums. This trio certainly equals any other trio that has played such creative jazz music .
He gives the happiest BEST breakfast performances EVER! WooHoo ! We are Blessed !!!!😊😊 January 19th, 2020...still love this awesome Man and his Men ! Awesome trio !
The DVD is one of the best if not the best example of what these three gentlemen were capable of. Well recorded, well filmed and the three of them were in top form. O.P. blew everyone away that night, including his sidekicks.
Another recommended DVD is the Stuttgart concert with Dave Taylor on bass and Martin Drew on drums. This is a club date which makes it a bit more personal - Rec 1988
First saw O.P. at McGill University in 1956 then at Place des Arts in Montreal in late 70's with Ella Fitzgerald. Consider him to have been and stil recognized as heads and shoulders above any other jazz pianist. What magical performance with Niels also the greatest on bass. Also was and am a great fan of Erroll Garner, another genius.
I was lucky to see Oscar at London House in Chicago where we were seated just a few feet dead center in front of the stage. He is my all time favorite jazz pianist, Garner second as you say. I just can't love Evans and others, decent and good as they were. Saw Garner in montreal, unfortunately sitting quite away from the bandstand as I recall. Loved it.
Evans plays a modern classical style that is lumped into the jazz category. George Shearing, Andre Previn and others like them played modern. Jazz is personified by Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker.
Quite apart from having a formidable technique these guys offer a brilliant example of an ingredient that is all too often missing in today's jazz! The word is joy! The reason that this is so important is that if the musicians themselves don't feel it when they play ,they won't be able to pass it on and communicate successfully with their audience!
Gene Harris did the best version of "Summertime" I've ever heard: ruclips.net/video/VyNL4T7JBpg/видео.html But Oscar's playing is in the musical stratosphere. May they all rest in peace in musical heaven!
Not exactly a solo but a marathon non-stop single session, magnificently played with a lot of ad-libing by the maestro for one hell of a long time. Remarkable endurance and effort. An amazing, even more than usual, live performance by the trio. Couldn't take my eyes of the screen. Mesmerising performance!!
Obrigado
Danny S agree liked them all, but Oscar Peterson was the top of the tree, I think the greatest jazz pianist ever, RIP Oscar sadly missed but your music lives on

Wonderful in one Word ! Pim Eijgenstein from Holland 2021
Sometimes I get frustrated when I don't hear the ending

He's happy cuz he's playing a Bosendorfer
Hé enjoyed as well playing à Bechstein or a Steinway or even a less prestigious piano brand. He cared more about side musicians, public, monde etc
NHOP the very best double bass jazz player 👍👍👍
I am stunned that a human being can do this. Three cheers for the wonders of evolution!
Evolution?? They didn't have pianos in the early days..
@@peterkoetsveldclarinet Not true. During an archaeological dig at Olduvai Gorge, Mary Leakey once discovered a Hammond B3.
Martin Drew , what a touch and taste , a force that must be recognised, Rest in peace , passed away 2010 . 66 years old too soon to go😪
3 seconds in - smashes like button

We weren't able to add your reply. Please try again
"gets into the grove and relentlessly stays there" --- you nailed it.
I like moment of "the drummer changes brush to stick".
Best performance Martin Drew.
He is unbelievable . . . by far the best of all time . . . . a superman . . . i am speechless again
Yep!!😍
CAUTION' Use only as directed by your music teacher. Intentional misuse of Oscar Peterson solos while smoking dope can result in loss of consciousness or death.
Apart from Oscar's magic NHØP is the greatest bass player ever!
UH HUH........RIGHT..."Opinions are like"...... "GOAT"??? Live LONG Enough.......
Brian Kate Johnstone. Totally agree ! I love NHOP.
Brian Kate Johnstone. Pedersen knows when Not to play, and Oscar appreciated him for that as well as other things.
@Rashan Sankofa : many others very good bass players (I love Ray Brown). Not better. No human being can do what he did .
@Rashan Sankofa “many”?? how much? 100? 200? are you sure you're talking about bass?
In music, some say less is more. Regarding Oscar, more is more. Genius. Was fortunate to see him perform at the Claremont Hotel, S.F around 1983. Unforgetable
well put lol
More is More and More and More!!!!
Together they are the three kings forever !!
Agree!

I agree!!
I love Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen's face during Oscar's solos. He's like : "Omg I'm witnessing magic"
One of my favorite : 26:55
YES ,TERRIBLE DOUBLE BASS ...THE BEST
How could anyone give this a thumbs down? This is the shit.. can’t get better.
È troppo grande!
Bravissimi anche i due
musicisti che lo accompagnano.
Il mio grande Oscar Peterson

....just AWESOME!
is this for real? apex of musical civilization. could rebuild the world with this. Opus Magnifique.

The reason that this is so important is that if the musicians themselves don't feel it when they play ,they won't be able to pass it on and communicate successfully with their audience!
There are lots of jazz pianists, like Gene Harris, who swing really hard, and are fun to listen to. This, though, is a transcendental level of swing !
Gene Harris did the best version of "Summertime" I've ever heard: ruclips.net/video/VyNL4T7JBpg/видео.html But Oscar's playing is in the musical stratosphere. May they all rest in peace in musical heaven!
The one and Only- Peterson. The greatest Jazz Pianist ever. Not only because of virtuosity...

The Great Dane has his place in history. He would not have shared the stage w' Oscar if that were not the case.
Genious and eternal artists, nevertheless we shouldn't forget Ray Brown, Erolle Garner and some other geniouses
Danny S agree liked them all, but Oscar Peterson was the top of the tree, I think the greatest jazz pianist ever, RIP Oscar sadly missed but your music lives on
Danny S the likes of James p Johnson influenced Fats Waller who influenced Art Tatum who led to the late great Oscar Peterson
