I like very much how Erroll open and ended this concert with his trade mark song Misty in a swinging style.

A delight to see these musicians having fun. An incredible rhythm section that allows Ernie Shepard to be seen well (as in few films). Johnny Hodges' Mood Indigo is one of the most beautiful I've heard from the Duke orchestra. I think Paul Gonsalves' solo on Diminuendo is even superior to the Newport version, because, apart from him, the orchestra is at a point of perhaps more intense complicity. Congratulations for posting this marvel.

It’s all about virtuosity and STYLE. Erroll is off the charts in both cases. In my humble opinion, no other pianist even comes close. There are more than a few fine and even great pianists and I have studied many of them but Mr. G is my hands down favorite. I am 82 years old and had photo taken of he and I when a lad fifteen years. It hangs proudly in my bedroom. If I were single it would be poster size in my living room. Very few days go by when I am not listening to his music. A good deal of the remaining time is spent with his music running through my head. Crazy huh!

I just transcribed the second song On green dolphin street some days ago. Ane i still dont understand how he could improvise that way!!!

The clip starts (& ends) with a version of EG's "Misty" played quite differently than what you found on the record. Green Dolphin Street is next.

Technical education please. How did Erroll only have to hear a song to get it then engraved in his memory to play for us? How does that work? hundreds of songs.

That's Jose Mangual on Congas and I believe Ike Isaacs bass and Jimmy Smith drums, Jimmy I saw with Lambert Hendricks Bavan at Birdland on a bill with John Coltrane.

And Sven Asmussen delivering a most moving tribute to his idol Stuff Smith with anecdotes and jokes in his typical danish style. He then plays “Lullaby for Stuff” on his viola. Heartbreaking!
