i dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@River Immanuel Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
What i LOVE and MISS about Chick is that he's such a showman. He graces us with his "non-human" skills lol while still finding ways to showcase his other bandmates and give them the spotlight.... He's a TRUE team mate... RIP to one of the Greats!!!!
Jeff Ballard smoked me out right before a show he did with a tenor sax player at the Copenhagen Jazz festival in 2013. I just randomly walked up at the right time and commented on the nice smell and without knowing what he looked like yet (but had definitely heard with Brad Mehldau), ended up smoking with him just moments before he walked in and performed an amazing show. I remember getting a beer and sitting on the floor right in front of him and his use of hands/mallets and alternatives to the traditional stick.
I've watched a lot of Chick's videos. He has the most amazing rapport with bass players and drummers. He really sets them up. And the way they read him. It's uncanny.
I've always admired Jeff Ballard's playing. So tasteful. I like how he's sporting the "Dad's best friend the insurance salesman who sits behind your kit and kills it" look.
LOL...yeah, I always really noticed how musicians look when they play. Duke Ellington and Miles Davis talked about that a lot, so that is where I kind of picked it up.
Wow Esperanza’s interaction is like a 6th sense. And I love how Chick Corea never fully just “goes off”, he’s always looking over and making sure the others are right there with him.
Three incredible musicians listening to each other so closely and playing great and having fun. Fantastic. I wish I could find more of these three together.
I have always been amazed at how full the classic piano trio can sound at the hands of true masters. It is a prime example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
There are no words for how much I would like to hear these three play some more stuff. The free interplay and the spontaneity is amazing, must have been a bit like this the first time one of the really good Bill Evans trios played together for the first time.
Chick dedicated this tune last night to Bill Evans at the Charleston Gaillard. Performed with Christian McBride and Brian Blade, of course. It was so wondrous
So joyful, exploratory, scintillating - goosebumps ~ love seeing their smiles, too ~ the smile should be considered an instrument all in its own right ~ played when genuinely moved ~
Just what I needed to make my day. A beautiful standard performed by jazz legends. Truly enchanting! I just love Esperanza's double bass playing and I think her lyrical use of slides and vibrato makes it so unique. As for Chick, a great in every sense of the word and a man who is dearly missed.
Over the years, Chick Corea has assembled some of the finest trios with some amazing rhythm sections, Roy Haynes + Miroslav Vitous, the Akoustic Band with Dave Weckl & John Patitucci, Stanley Clarke + Lenny White as well as The New Trio with Cohen & Ballard just to name a few, but this one i would definitely them rank up there in terms of terms of great listening and chemistry. The highlight of this piece is Esperanza Spalding's bass solo, she's such an incredible bassist and it's really nice to see her skills be put on display here, i really hope that Corea makes a new album with these guys as this trio absolutely rocks!!!
Let alone, Alice, for the conniseur, 2 magicians, take us on a trip of a double fantasy, into the realm of rare brilliance. One, surely giving Saint Peter, tuitions in harmony & improvisation. The, other, a path breaker, if am not mistaken, who trod on the toes of the male dominated Accoustic bass to carve a niche for herself. The self effacing Jeff Ballard completes the picture. I am blessed I am privileged. Thank You, Juna 7nna. Made my day.
Funny how Esperanza sounds more like LaFaro/Peacock/Gomez here than the more modern Grenadier vibe everybody seems to be playing these days. It's practically a Bill Evans tune so that makes sense. She's such a beast.
@@reidwhitton6248 I am a jazz pianist so when I ask that question it's kinda selfish because I don't hear any particular advantage to the modern bass sound which seems to entail "less" sustain. We all want the bass on an equal footing. I just dig that dark sustain growl associated with a less woody thumpy thudy sound.
It´s a STEINWAY - Chick never should have made that contract with Yamaha. The Steinway pianos sound amazing, robust, incredible. Listen to Keith Jarrett, ask him if he want to change his Steinway !
Meh. I prefer the sound and feel of Yamaha over Steinway. I used a Steinway on my studio album and kept wishing it was a Yamaha and even when I listen to it today, still wish it was a Yamaha.
Well, interesting. I don´t like the Yamaha sound when recorded. It´s good live, though. But a GOOD Steinway is incredible. But I´ve seen awful steinway old pianos, junk pianos. ot every people can purchase a brand new, or 2 year old Model D, nice touch, with signature from steinway. This is the right sound.
@@franckdebank just say you hate black women, bro. She's good enough that she was able to play with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Chick Corea and many others that people would call legends. Why are you hating on someone that you'll never be as good as?

Firstly does anyone know exactly where and when this was recorded? Thanks a lot! Wow I was lucky enough to see her join Return to Forever (no DiMeola) here in San Diego in 2008? at the Apostrophe club! Yes I may have also, but it's hard to remember, seen her briefly before probably at one of the Playboy Jazz Festivals at the Hollywood Bowl but I saw so many folks there that's why it's difficult to recall otherwise one would think she's pretty unforgettable. Yet I certainly do remember seeing Return to Forever long ago (also no DiMeola) at the Santa Monica Civic in '77 and then later in '83 with DiMeola; as well as Chick with Herbie Hancock and both his electric and acoustic bands. So I hate to brag but I must count my blessings and seeing Chick is certainly one of them! Augy, San Diego
Joe Sanders Well, there were moments that reminded me a lot, like 05:05-05:18 - ignoring your hostility. Not saying all of her reminds Carter... but, in fact, her solo, in general, went through different paths. For those pianists out there, Chick's substitutions are from the top Fm6/G, G7b9, Csus, C7, then Bm, E7Alt, Am11, A7 and so on. Beautiful.
what does it mean "from the top"? Sorry I don't play jazz piano, I've only been learning recently.

What a terribly sad day, what a great loss. What a great artist, right up till the end. Always so generous, playful, joyful. Thank you, Chick.
Wait he died no this can not be true. O_O

Esperanza, one of the new 'wunderkind' on the block, w Chick, an ex-wunderkind now master, & Mr Ballard one of the tastiest drummers available
usually youtube comments praise just one musician on a track. You can't do that here, they're all giants of their instruments. quite refreshing

One of the great bassists in jazz today
Whenever Chick touches his nose, like at 3:22, something sweet is sure to follow. What great playing, "big ears" all around.
4:20 too ^^

not really hundreds of better player here and there ...her talent more about being a black woman at the right time
A nice elastic time feel to that jazz waltz!
Herr Friberger everyone since the early 80s plays internal pulse. Everyone always knows where one is.
I love how esperanza clime up and down the brige of that bass fabulous
3 giants on the same stage, what a treat!
One very gorgeous giant among them !
They're swinging so hard, it's an unbelievable performance by these giants of jazz - so interactive and dynamic - thanks for sharing!

I dont know if she had classes with somebody else...but, she is first class!!!
She graduated and taught at Berklee. www.berklee.edu/people/esperanza-spalding . Current faculty include Patitucci, Chick's longtime bassist.
Amazing, just breathtaking.
The Mad Hatter album, based on Alice in Wonderland. I wore it out... have a daughter named Alice, for this and another wonderful lady in my life.
