Hey Pranav as a diabetes doctor I disagree with your logic behind not calling sugar addiction at 25:50. Sugar withdrawal leads to cravings pretty much like any drug cravings. Since you can procure sugary snacks or food easily these cravings cause snack breaks and don’t make as much noise as what a typical cocaine withdrawl makes

    • @piyushb143
      @piyushb143 5 месяцев назад +17

Sugar in itself is not addictive. Sugar when coupled with fat/sodium in hyper palatable foods is addictive.
Also when people avoid sugar, they tend to eat more healthy which means they lower their caloric intake, which keeps them hungry and when hunger kicks in, cravings are obvious.

    1. One of the reasons for avoiding frozen vegetables is to eat seasonal vegetables.
    2. You are under the assumption that all these regulatory bodies work diligently and sincerely which might not be the case. There are a lot of stuff being sold which are marketed to be something else while having fssai approval.
    3. You ask about evidence based backing on everything and since it's not there , it means you can have it. But the point is there is no evidence that a lot of these are absolutely safe and cause no problems. What is okay today, may be found out to have some effect in the future because we don't know what effect certain chemicals(even if consumed in minuscule amounts) have over our body.
    3. While preserving food can be critical in some cases but when there is no requirement, why do it? The kind of food we have been having over multiple generations in a particular climate has a higher probability of suiting us and they have the largest data pool (so many people over such a long time having a particular diet)
    4. No company is there to do social work as its prime work, it has to earn and maximise profit and they often tend to flirt with existing regulatory rules, often finding loop holes.
    5. Human body is complex, modern medicine is nowhere close. What worked for millennia will still work and the only reason they don't is because of other factors like pollution.
    6. Personally, i think moderation is the key. But that is really hard. You talked about white rice. Tell me something, how many of us have the discipline to limit our portions when it comes to food? And why would anyone want to strip the bran layer when it is useful to us? Taste is the only reason i can think of.
    7. You say a lot of things , some valid but you yourself function under some assumptions and it is quite natural because there has to be an undefined object and a set of axioms/hypothesis in science or we would be in a never ending cycle. We can have this structure in Mathematics but in sciences it's not possible because we don't know the the axiom equivalent, we are in the process of extracting rules from observations, making models and testing them.
All that being said, it is rather difficult to recommend anything when it comes to health. Someone i knew had a problem and we went to a doctor and he is a well established, respected doctor with a sterling career. His treatment didn't work out and this was an outlier. Irony was, something like hingoli solved her problem. Doctors are detectives in that they try their best to figure out what the ailment is and then have to figure out a treatment customised to the needs of the patient.
Studies in medicine are still done on a small subset of people.
    8. We need to understand the entire human genome and how it works, how every single thing in our body works and understand the effect of every compound on our body in order to have something precise and deterministic.
    9. Lastly i am not refuting everything you have said, this is not about arguing to defend a set of opinions or stance. I have merely put out somethings which came to my mind while listening to you.
    Cheers

Take the examples of Lays and Kitkat. Lays doesn't use palm oil in Europe and Americas but it does in India, why because it's cheaper and they are catering to the requirements of the audience.
Kitkat contains very less amount of milk in India compared to the west.

With experience comes humility, the more you learn the more you realise there is much more to be learnt.
Yes they said in layman. I myself am a practicing allopathic doctor with 11 yrs experience in oncology can boldly claim that allopathy is still naive and needs to learn a lot and discover more. The patient are over diagnosed and over medicated And western approval for everything is laughable. Earlier everybody used to laugh at "Pranayam" but when CDC came approved Cardiac Coherence breathing everyone went gaga which is practically Pranayam rebadged western clothes nothing else. If mendel noticed by his experience in his garden about trait (genes) it has to be acknowledged but if any Charaka/shusutra learned and taught something needs to be rejected straight away. When I was in residency our esteemed professor who runs a renowned cancer treatment centre in pondicherry used to ask patients to visit dharamshala for an opinion with Dr yeshi can't remember the exact name . That person was practicing Buddhist medicine and trust me the patients quality of life was improved like anything we saw after their treatment. So fellows Let go of this mentality first that if Gora babu said so everything is right. And you know what is the 4th phase of drug trial right? I can right 100's of instances where drugs and investigations were and are still pushed into the market with screwed data and false claims and silently withdrawn if caught up. It's common instances when these greedy corporation influence texts of harrison which is equivalent to Bible of allopathy. In allopathy patients are looked upon as consumers in an open market economy and the resell needs to be happening again and again for revenue. Almost 80% of gut bacteria is lost to use of antibiotics and GM food or products from hybrid cattles. When you look monsato patents and their buisness you'll realise what I am saying .

I've only reached the Oreo part and I'm on Dr. Pal's side for this. Because the USDA says it's not harmful, it's not harmful? The dosage makes the poison bucko. Its harmful due to the fact that it is extremely calorie dense chief! Added sugar is harmful as well. These two things are partially why obesity is so high right now!
One oreo cookie has 53 calories. In 4 cookies, that's 212 calories. 4 is the least you're stopping at because its the smallest packet they offer. Most people do not have the discipline to eat ONE cookie. They will eat 4+.
Its recommended for ideal health that men consume 36g of sugar max and women 20g of sugar max. For women, with those 4 cookies, they're above that limit.
As an Indian origin person, if Indians had such discipline, and people on the whole had such discipline, people wouldn't be going through health issues as we speak. But they don't have discipline.
It is better off, for the sake of weight loss, to stay away from it. Pal has also talked about moderation on his channel as well. But you stay away from certain foods for weight loss due to how calorie dense they are. Pretty standard stuff too.

Both are not wrong,it's the context that is different. It's much more nuanced because it can't be a blanket statement for everyone. Sure for a diabetic/obese individual it is best to avoid but for a normal individual eating an extra 200 calorie in one day isn't doing anything. As long as the calorie consumption is within the required amounts for a long period of time it's fine.

Although his intentions must be to help people, it is important for him to be called out. If as a doctor he actively promotes potentially dangerous alternative medicine practices, that imo is dangerous. If he is a humble person who truly wants to help people, he will update his knowledge and correct himself in a followup.

Fast food like McDonald's, etc are sold widely going through the so-called 'tests from US'. But is it really healthy and good for you? So, this person's points are just as questionable. It always makes sense to eat local, seasonal, least processed, etc for better health. Stored food is there in all cultures for preserving produce. In cold places, it is usually frozen, pickling. In tropical weathers, it is drying, pickling etc. What is suitable in US weather is definitely not in India. So, a good balanced diet with local, fresh produce is the best bet (occasional indulgence in different kinds of food in moderation helps satisfying one's taste buds).

Hey Pranav brother , i m a big fan of your channel and i owe a lot to you for leading me to the path of rationality and skepticism ( started watching as a middle school student. the early access to your channel has i believed solidified my scientific temper. ) . Although i was extremely disappointed with Dr.Pal promoting pseudoscientific channels , he is not all bad. Infact i believe his contribution on the youtube health space has been pivotal, there has been a change in people's attitudes with junk food. Any video that indulges in gluttony has been received with caution which i think is a positive change as people no longer encourage binge eating ( all thanks to Dr .Pal) . A major cooking channel had to stop their series of cooking dishes accompanying alcoholic beverages , once again because people charged with rage at their promotion of alcoholism ( owes to Dr Pal). He has never outrightly prohibited eating junk food and has always advocated for moderation and exercise. Therefore i think cherry picking one incident with the oreo episode doesnt settle well with me and i think it is an unscientific , deliberate attempt on your part to undo all his goodness. I may have misinterpreted your intentions , im happy to be proved wrong.

When I was a kid my mom used to tell me , consuming chocolates would cause some kinda big worms to evolve in my stomach... Thanks for this video, I've just seen that all those brand chocolates that i consumed are FSSAI certified. Now I'm gonna go and report my mom....
Jokes apart, it's okay if someone tries to talk smart, I see someone trying to be over smart in this video. Dr. Pal or the Satwik Movement are trying to promote a lifestyle that can mostly involve natural things, without processing them.
It's not a bad idea. Like my mom said, there is no fact in having serious worms or anything on a one day chocolate consumption. But by me being aware of this fact I'll have all the guts to increase my chocolate intake in increased portions, maybe on a regular basis too. But if i totally cut down the chocolate, I don't lose much in the health perspective though.
Instead of solely researching on food approvals and their standards you should have gone to a good gynaecologist who can confirm you "HOW GIRLS CONSUMING THE SO CALLED FSSAI CERTIFIED PRODUCTS IS AFFECTING THEIR MENSTRUAL HEALTH"
You're true , non veg consumption purely doesn't have any proof to state that it is harmful. But when you say non veg consumption is safe , the consumption increases. Like it's happening these days. To compensate for these levels of consumption you need more production, for which the producers are again practicing government certified methods to increase the yield. Here is where the problem comes. Unknowingly we are consuming contaminated products due to which there are some medical issues occurring , which again you can confirm from a gynaecologist asking him/her about early age menstruation in girls these days.

    Hey,
As someone with an autoimmune condition I have a different perspective from your opinions.
Firstly watch all Dr Pals videos . He rarely refustes or does pushback on his guests. He lets them talk thats just his style or whatever.
I absolutely agree eith Dr Pals statement about supporting allopathy medicine with diet. This has and is helping me. Nit just me but so many people suffering from autoimmune.
I have tried satvik diet and many diets. Satvik is extreme though I think their followers atleast try and eat more healthy even though most if them do not follow what they say to the T because its impractical. I know because im in thier unofficial members groups.
The thing what Dr pal recommends is fresh fruits nad veggies and protein along with exercise . This is what every doctor or science recommends.
Sugar- i have stopped having sugar for 4 years. Occasional 2-3 ladoos ,or 2 times a year payasam. Sugar is highly inflammatory for me. But not the sugars in fruits . Studies fo show sugar Tobe inflammatory.
When we quote studies we should also understand who is sponsoring those studies as well.
Oreo is not good when you can eat an apple or a banana instead. Its addictive and you cant stop with one. Many studies do show that preservatives in processed food harm our gut bacteria.
As a species we have prioritised convenience over health. Thats what i find dr pal always says.
Also medicine is good i take it but prevention is better than cure nad what dr pal advocates makes more sense than what you say. Many new age drugs especially for autoimmune conditions have black box labels nd patients abroad are told about its side effects but never the same in india.
In fact FDA has post marketing surveillance studies mandanated by them to monitor new drugs and for example tofacitinib drug has heart issue nd malignancies as possible side effects. So definitely pls understand the apprehensions of patients.
We all want to hear good things about our bad habits and your channel does a good job of that. When you get diagnosed with an autoimmune or metabolic syndrome or life style disease you'll be singing a different tune.

They consumed what was closest to nature, devoid of preservatives, freeze-drying, artificial coloring, high fructose corn syrup, and other additives that naturalists such as the Satvic Movement, criticize.
Back then, the average life expectancy was approximately 35-40 years. In contrast, today's modern era showcases a significant increase in lifespan. This serves as a testament to the importance and impact of scientific advancements on human health and longevity. Science truly matters!

You are spot on. I personally follow Satvik Movement and have also done their workshop. True to what you said, their intent is to educate people to consume food closer to nature and avoid processed food. It is plain common sense that processed food contains harmful chemicals. We do not need an approval from any body to tell us chemicals, sugar etc are bad. At times, we should use our own common sense and judgement to decide what is good or bad for us.

A few years back, I had this strange problem where one side of my cheeks and eye lids would swell up. I had to visit so many doctors, take variety of scans, like CT, MRI, multiple times, and so many pills. I would have visited some six to seven doctors in a span of one and a half years and really none of those doctors were able to provide a cure for my condition! They could not even say what it was! At last, what many would call as pseudoscience or whatever, a well known ayurvedic doctor put me on a three day panchakarma treatment to remove "toxins" from my body. All i had to do was fast for three days and then an ayurvedic powder was given for fifteen days and touch wood, i never encountered those dreadful swellings ever since! Whatever field it is, be it allopathy or naturopathy, it is good to question and be critical but underestimating and bashing them completely doesnt make sense! Many US based doctors themselves have criticised the Standard American Diet (SAD)! It is important to remember that the authorities most often collaborate with the big names from the "food industry". At the end of the day, we all do know that eating unprocessed, healthy food is indeed the best for health and this statement cannot be called as based on pseudoscience. Based on my own dreadful experience with the most experienced doctors and big hospitals, I can say that there is an area which is always unexplored and science had made huge progress but we cannot say we know it all and put down those who have different views !!!

Got this answer from gpt4: Same answer was given for dosa, please reply
Yes, idli does contain a high amount of probiotics. The fermentation process of the batter increases the number of beneficial bacteria in the idlis. These beneficial bacteria, or probiotics, can improve the balance of gut bacteria and promote overall health.
However, as you mentioned earlier, the cooking process (steaming) at high temperatures could potentially kill some of the probiotics. Despite this, the fermentation process still provides benefits. It enhances the mineral bioavailability, thus assisting the body to accumulate more nutrition3. The idli batter-derived lactobacilli have been demonstrated as good probiotics, which displayed excellent antibacterial activity against clinical and food-borne bacteria.
So, while the cooking process may reduce the number of live probiotics in the final product, idli can still be a beneficial part of a diet due to the fermentation process and the nutrients that are produced

    • @prowrestlingmundial685
      @prowrestlingmundial685 7 месяцев назад +1

Dosa and idli are traditional South Indian foods made from fermented rice and lentil batter. While the fermentation process involved in making dosa and idli helps break down some of the carbohydrates and proteins in the ingredients, it's unlikely that they contain significant amounts of probiotics after cooking. Probiotics are live microorganisms that provide health benefits when consumed in adequate amounts, typically found in fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, and certain pickled vegetables. While dosa and idli may have some residual probiotic activity from the fermentation process, the high heat involved in cooking them likely kills off most of the live bacteria. Therefore, they are not considered significant sources of probiotics.
