  • Let's talk about my feelings and opinion in what amounts to a review of the Uncharted film, my thoughts on Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg's performances, as well as why it's important that TLOU fans check out this movie in cinemas. After all, it could very well have a positive impact on future The Last of Us video game content.

I saw Uncharted with two friends who had no idea what the Uncharted games were. They both absolutely loved it. I have played the first four games as well and I really loved it. It felt like Uncharted, especially in the second half. I recommend seeing it with friends and just having a good time.

I honestly enjoyed it. It will satisfy fans of the game. It was great for a video game to movie adaptation.

Seen it Thursday night with my two sisters who grew up watching me play Uncharted. And we had a blast watching it we caught the inconsistencies of the characters and aspects that aren't one-to-one to the game but we were willing to turn our brain off and enjoy a relatively entertaining treasure Hunt movie in theaters. Already give it any sort of reading it would be like a six and a half or a seven. And comparison I'd rate Resident Evil welcome to raccoon City of four out of 10 which is a really bad video game movie.

I am a super fan of the uncharted games & I felt the same way after the trailers but watching the film was a different story, I enjoyed it, it still felt uncharted enough that I didn’t care that the story was a new interpretation & just went along for the ride & hope it does well enough to garner a sequel.

I enjoyed it. As an adaptation I'm more mixed but I am a lot more positive towards what it managed to bring to life from the games, but the liberties it did take regarding the source material of the games has me feeling a little bit unimpressed by what they changed and the rewrites of certain origins for certain characters rang a little hollow, but the movie is among one of the better game to film adaptations by far. I just think the writing in some parts needed to be a bit stronger. But I am aware that this is a retelling of the games, and in hindsight, the opinions expressed in this video have changed a bit of my outlook towards the movie as a whole. It's a movie I want to see again just to solidify my opinion with the express understanding that this most certainly a different version of Uncharted, that it is a retelling, a celebration of the games almost. I think by my second viewing my opinion may change but as it stands, an ok adaptation, but a fun adventure film even if the writing isn't the strongest element. I will say that Tom Holland honestly did a great Job as drake. Throughout the film I was analyzing his performance and he is able to capture that down to earth, wittiness of drake and I was able to see the spirit of the character brought to the forefront in the performance, right down to even having a lot of the same inflections and tone that Nate would speak in. The final flying galleon fight was INCREDIBLE. That and the plane sequence felt the most like a set-piece that can only come from Uncharted. Mark Wahlberg I feel is a little miscast, but I do have hope that in future films (because given how the film is doing at the box office there's definitely going to be a sequel) he will grow to become the Sully I always pictured in my head, especially now that he has a mustache and his classic revolver (two things I honestly wish he had in the entire film). I also liked Sophia's performance as Chloe. I thought she captured the spirit of the character very well (I honestly didn't like the retelling of her relationship with her father), and the nolan north cameo was *chef's kiss*. In short, the movie captured the spirit of the games. I just hope it's strengths could be expanded upon in the sequel more so than it's drawbacks.

I really enjoyed this movie! Though I’ve only seen gameplay of the games and not play them myself, I definitely felt the uncharted vibes from movie. And you brought up a good point of showing our support to ND by watching this film.

I watched the movie and I completely agree that it felt like a version of Uncharted for sure. The cinematic filmography, personality of the characters and plot were quite decent. Like you, at first I had my doubts. But after watching it, I totally enjoyed the film. Fun, engrossing and entertaining. Definitely looking forward to another movie in the Uncharted franchise for sure!

I definitely didn't enjoy the movie myself, I was disappointed by how much of the plot they changed for the movie. Bit I think that after I've had a bit of time I'll watch it again, and think of it as a new version of the narrative instead of a continuation of the narrative from the games.

I hate the trailers so much. On the one hand I don't want to act like we can *never* have different adaptations of familiar stories yet the Uncharted trailers for me have this "made by an algorithm" feeling to me. Sure the bits of action and cinematography looked fine but Tom Holland as Young Drake which....ehhh? Tom's a good actor? But? As Drake? Ehh? Don't feel it one bit. And then Mark Walberg as Sully....no. My mind doesn't feel totally changed with this review but maybe I'll actually watch it when it comes out on streaming.

    • @WolfofThorns

It's totally alright--all of us are made differently and like different things. There's nothin wrong with that. You do you in all things. This world would be kind of a boring place if we all felt the same about everything, you know? Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Good movie. But wrong, it did not feel anything like the characters from the game.
-- Sully is just Mark Wahlberg being himself. Nate was just Tom Holland Spidey without a suit.

I actually went and saw Uncharted yesterday! I personally went for Tom Holland because I've always loved him as Spider-Man in the MCU and I wanted to branch out into some of his other works. I myself have never played the Uncharted series, but I absolutely love TLOU with all my heart, and I was glad to help support Naughty Dog and what they do by going to see this film in theaters. As someone who's never played the video game series, mind you, I was somewhat lost, but I overall REALLY enjoyed the film. It definitely helped me realize that I do in fact want to play the Uncharted series, and anybody who can give me tips on what order to play the games in is very helpful because I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. :)) P.S. I have gone ahead and done my own research for what order I should play the games, however, I do know that the information provided isn’t always accurate.

I actually wish I had started with Uncharted 4, then played the rest of the games, starting with 1 and playing the rest in order. I think I would have enjoyed the older games so much more had I played 4 first, and it's just as good a place as any to start, given how it touches on Nathan's origins and family. That's just me, though.
