Sure, the new episode is a big departure from the game and we don't see Ellie and Bill diss each other but wow, what we got was really moving and emotional.
As someone who has never played the game, I can definitely see if you’re someone that is disappointed that Bill won’t be in more episodes and that they changed the story a lot for them why you would feel that way. But I have to say, I think both versions have tremendous merit to them. The original definitely paints a more tragic picture of staying stuck in your ways and not letting anyone in at the price of wanting to be right. One that offers a tragic look of the outbreak and the desperate measures one would rather take than to become like the monsters. The other is probably one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve seen on tv in a very long time that is raw and real and paints a picture of the importance of love and that is possible to find it in such a horrible situation as an apocalypse where tomorrow is not promised. I like both versions. I think they offer really powerful moments and wonderful character work. But hey. That’s just me.
Both versions of Bill and Frank were perfect for the respective versions of the story they were in. Game B&F don't have the same emotional depth as TV B&F, but you wouldn't be able to play through their story as a level-this version lends itself to the interactive element, which is essential for the game version. It wouldn't go over as well to make the player sit through an hour-long cutscene of their relationship. But TV B&F work much better as a cinematic story. There is no interactive element, so the audience can experience their story in a different way that focuses more on emotional resonance and catharsis than on mechanical depth and action. Neither version of B&F would work if you switched them. TV B&F could never work in the game, and Game B&F would have made for pretty dull television. Neither version is inherently better than the other, they are both simply the perfect fit for their respective mediums.
You’re right. Just finished the episode. I love both cinema and games, respectively. But I think what I love more is story telling and the methods people use to tell them. It’s an incredible experience and it affects everyone differently. Sure the game was about zombies, violence, etc. But at the core, it was the dealing with trauma, grief, loneliness and loss. Some people just game to shoot stuff or get from point A to point B, whatever. I prefer the storytelling games. I read books all my life growing up so this was just my next best thing once I could afford it 🤷♂️
Game doesn't need to shove a gay relationship in your face just to pander to an agenda. It achieves more in a single scene than the show did in an entire episode. The HBO adaptation is a disgrace. Anyone who is honest knows that this is the truth.
@@Pedro_Le_Chef I disagree. (For the récord I skip over any love making scene in anything cuz I just don’t really care for it, I just prefer the storytelling) Sex/love stuff in media is shoved in our faces all the time. There’s always a sex scene in some movie. Yea, we saw two middle aged men with beards kissing on screen but compared to other tv/movie scenes it could’ve been a lot more graphic. The episode more so showed the true essence of a lonely man with everything he needed learning he needed one more thing. Someone to talk to. A friend. It was already implied he was gay to begin with but he found the right person, not someone who took advantage from him. That’s important for many men out there. I used to be a bartender, saw lonely men, sometimes even homeless, at some corner just drinking themselves to death alone. Nobody cared about them, but i did. I kind of like to view it like that too, like it's almost an alternate timeline to the games, and shows how things would've gone if things worked out differently.
Basically how I view it. Specifically, I imagine that in the game's canon Bill and Frank had a very similar history to their HBO counterparts, albeit diverging around where Bill was shot by raiders. At that point, in the game's canon, Bill perhaps regressed into his old habits of paranoia and anti-social behavior, and began to push Frank away, resulting in how the two characters ended up in the game.
@ExoticTE77 Because the Bill in the game is WAY better and more interesting in the game. He's a rugged bad ass who knows how to survive and has an awesome intro and he rarely shows vulnerable side due to his survival necessities. But the Bill in HBO's TLoU feels so neutered and propped that he stands more in like a caricature rather than a character. What's more, he's boring. I nearly fell asleep with the story they have him in on ep 3 and it just jumped the shark with him cooking these gourmet lunches with Frank, Joel, and Tess that it made me question what I was watching anymore. It was really surreal how calm the whole ordeal was when it's supposed to be the post-apocalyptic and survival, not luncheons. And finally, his story with Frank in the show contributed nothing to the story. I could've skipped this episode and would've missed nothing. I cannot say I had the same experience with the Bill in the game. That's why.
@@oblivious108 his story with frank contributed to Joel’s character development. You are also acting like every single living moment for them was supposed to be hell. Bill in the show was a rugged badass. He set up all his traps just like the game and personally went outside to go after the like 10+ raiders. The lunch with Joel and Tess was a planned lunch to discuss business to… SURVIVE! And you might have thought it was boring but the majority of people don’t. You are obviously entitled to your own opinion and I’m glad it’s not because of homophobia.

You know I do still prefer this version of Bill's character, and especially his and Frank's ending in game. Feels more in spirit with TLoU and is like the heavy blow needed that precedes Sam and Henry where things just go from bad to worse, and also really helps strengthen the bond between Joel and Ellie which seems to be skimmed over in the show so far unfortunately. But I have to say, I also enjoyed the story told in the show version as a reinterpretation of events, in no small part due to Nick Offerman. That dude can act.
Damn, I can see expanding on the relationship between him and Frank, that makes sense. But the whole section is completely changed. Abit disappointed but still a good episode for the most part
After episode three I just had to see the original. Although they changed the story it was good to actually see frank and bill interact with each other considering that we never saw it in the game and frank hated bills guts
I liked the way they did Bill and Frank’s relationship in the game better because it establishes early on that this world is bleak and nobody gets a “happy ending”. It’s a theme that continues into the sequel, where Joel’s attempt at a happy ending has its own repercussions.
@@thetapperhatz_laboratories2574 seeing how they already deviated from the source material in the second episode i doubt that they're going to have this in the show
here's what sounds good, so lets say HBO kept the story they have now with Bill and Frank, their whole relationship adapted like it was in the show, but instead of them dying together, they grew weary of each other, Frank getting tired of the way Bill treats him, so Frank runs off, gets bit (like in the game), and hangs himself. Then, Bill realizes what he's done and how harsh he's been on Frank, so he goes to look for him, and finds him soon after. Leaving Bill this angry, depressed, violent man, out for himself, that Joel and Ellie would meet in the show
Wouldve been way better and realistic. Instead they ruined bills character imo. The added story to the characters were nice but the ending shouldve been like here in the game
no hate towards their whole relationship moment but i very much prefer this rugged intense angry version of Bill. and i woulda loved to see Ellie roasting Bill.
I haven't watched or played the games, but I wanted to see the Bill and Frank in the videogames. In the show they are very close and the story is so romantic. In this scene Bill is like: This is Frank, well fuck him. Lol. So different!
Man coming here after watching the episode; it has such a different meaning. This is the alternate ending to when Frank tried to run out, and it's depressing to see. I'm glad the show showed us an alternative ending. It was so well done
I can't relate to any of this, but its kinda depressing after I watched the show. Like. Damn. This guy was alone. He didn't get lucky, finding friends again like Joel did. Its understandable Frank didn't want to live in that scenario, but holy shit, Bill went through the 5 stages of grief, and was probably more bitter when he saw Joel and Ellie leave, especially thinking that Tess is still alive. His perspective is depressing, because if you look at it, Joel and Ellie will get the chance to bond. Bill won't. His paranoia has him stuck there, but also he's all alone there.
@@crazyalarmstudios2012 dude you are acting like all those scenes needed Bill to work it out. Joel and Ellie can handle those situations by themselves with or without some new people. Hell maybe even Sam and Henry will help them out with those scenarios

It would have been interesting to see W Earl brown play him on the show too. He played one of my favorite characters on Deadwood. But they changed the character/situation in some significant ways for the show so I understand why Offerman was cast. He did a fantastic job of course.

Can’t wait to see Nick Offerman as Bill in the HBO series. One of my favorite scenes and character.
I’m coming to your 4 months into the future. He’s amazing in the third episode.
@@btk2034 just got done watching! Incredible
You wont be disappointed 🎯
You’ll love it
What do you think of the episode Benjamin?
Look how aggressive Joel gets when he mentions Tess...
Can’t even begin to tell all the stories I’ve heard.

Bill looks extremely detailed
Episode 3 showed us what would have happened if Bill and Frank stayed partners.
@@Kpengie exactly. You nailed it.
I much prefer this version of Bill than what we got from HBO's series.
Why?

Whose here after watching ep 3 of the show
here's what sounds good, so lets say HBO kept the story they have now with Bill and Frank, their whole relationship adapted like it was in the show, but instead of them dying together, they grew weary of each other, Frank getting tired of the way Bill treats him, so Frank runs off, gets bit (like in the game), and hangs himself.

Its understandable Frank didn't want to live in that scenario, but holy shit, Bill went through the 5 stages of grief, and was probably more bitter when he saw Joel and Ellie leave, especially thinking that Tess is still alive.
