I thought Sin City 2 was very enjoyable, It wasnt a scratch on the first one but I thought it was a lot of fun. Good atmosphere, Good peformances and some very good scene but I agree with everything else that I saw.
I liked Sin City 2. It's not as good as the first one, but to me, that was mostly because it was more of the same - and because JGL's thread didn't really resolve properly.
I agree with Mark about the Sin City, I feel that the same problem applies to the Hobbit films. Not one of them came into their own as a film, they've all just made me want to watch The Lord Of The Rings again
Honourable mentions: 300: Rise of an Empire, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Annie, God's Pocket, 4 Minute Mile, Serena, Divergent 10. Blended 9. Transformers: Age of Exctintion 8. Dracula Untold 7. Sex Tape 6. Let's Be Cops 5. Brick Mansions 4. Tammy 3. I, Frankenstein 2. The Legend of Hercules 1. The Other Woman
Sex Tape is the worst film I've seen this year. I've seen 127 movies so far this year and I'll still see 3 more by Sunday. 10. I, Frankenstien 9. 3 Days to Kill 8. The November Man 7. Tammy 6. Planes: Fire and Rescue 5. The Legend of Hercules 4. The Possession of Michael King 3. Haunt 2. Ouija 1. Sex Tape.
Sin City 2 was mildly entertaining, but yeah, it felt like a film past its prime. If it came out two years after the original it would've had more hype behind it (and maybe more ambition), but nine years later just leaves it as a movie that was made because they just happened to forgot to make it. Eva Green is about the only saving grace, but she doesn't save it as much as 300: Rise of an Empire.
LOL "My Ten Worst Films of 2014 - Part 1" Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Perhaps part 4 will be split into part 4.1 then 4,2. Mark if you are going to criticise film makers for splitting up films into multiple parts, How come you are doing something very similar,????
killboggins Not a penny, but its STILL very annoying creating 2 features when 1 would very easily suffice. Do I have to link you tot he video blog Mark done criticising the practice?
I'm dreading... what films are so bad that they knocked Grace of Monaco from top position to not even in the top 5? That said, I can't wait to find out. :)
I thought Sin City 2 was an improvement over the original; I was more invested in the stories, especially Dwight's (the only story which I found tedious and blatantly terrible in the original), and it contained all the great, over the top action that I wanted to see again. It was everything I expected and more. Sure, there were some weak endings to the stories, and Jessica Alba's performance was slightly shoddy, but I don't believe it should be anywhere near this list.
I wish Sin City 2 wasn't on the list, i loved it, well because im pretty much a sucker for any Robert Rodriguez movie, bar shorts and sharkboy and lavagirl they are terrible, i'm in the miniority though :(
+vernon jackson And while it doesn't make my Top Ten or anywhere near I still think "Dance's with Wolves" was way too over rated of course Kevin Costner isn't that great an actor either
The Canyons was really badly directed and the actual quality was so rubbish. It could have been good because it had a good an interesting story by Ellis, shame really
Very true. And as I recall he previously called Sin City baggy and far too long on Newsnight and said that it was empty-headed vacuous nonsense when discussing Shoot Em Up. So maybe the style of Sin City pulled the wool over his eyes like it did for most people.
Johnny Skinwalker How are we prudes? Sin City is misogynist, sexist, sadistic and sacrilegious. I don't care if it's meant to be "post-modern" and it is meant to be ironic, but it still quite crass and shockingly prejudiced towards multiple people. I wouldn't mind it if it was a silly Stallone/Schwarzenegger film from the 80's, as they're usually self-aware whereas Sin City takes itself completely seriously, displaying its views as the right ones, potentially making it poisonously influential over the views of the audience. I'm not a prude but there are limits to what you can show and how you should portray people on film. Wouldn't you agree?
Mr. Veteran I don't agree. In my opinion your giving film too much power in the sense that I don't think it can influence people as much as what you say it can. I've seen horrible things on film or should I say representations of things as I'm sure you have and like me I highly doubt it's made you want to automatically go out and act or think these representations yourself. For me it isn't wrong to show people what happens in the world through film. Isn't that part of what film is about?
Glad Sin City 2 was trashed by the critics and bombed at the box office. How comes it took so long for people to release that Frank Miller is such a bad writer with a neanderthal attitude towards women that would make even Stephenie Meyer feel dirty about it?
My worst movies of 2014: 1) The Interview 2) Noah 3) Transformers 4 4) 300: Rise of an Empire 5) Godzilla 6) I, Frankenstien 7) Dracula Untold 8) Sex Tape 9) The Expendables 3 10) Guardians of the Galaxy
ssj9997 To me it kinda deserves to be there, because before watching it I've heard tons of people talking about it like if were the best cine-comic of the last 20 years, but actually is a 5/10 movie at best, with unfunny jokes and juvenile characters...
I bloody hate Mrs Browns Boys'
It's literally like the show in Extras that Gervais creates
Pretty much spot on
Its one of the worst shows in existence, just awful.
Andrew Devine
Is he havin' a laff?!
My year just is not complete without Kermode's worst movie list!
Nice one Kermy!
Best christmas wishes from NYC

TGV
lololol Good one!

It was cool I thought it was rally enjoyable
Is Mark gonna split the second part in two?
Talk about ironic.
It's now 2015 and still no sign of it.
I agree with Mark about the Sin City, I feel that the same problem applies to the Hobbit films. Not one of them came into their own as a film, they've all just made me want to watch The Lord Of The Rings again

"My Ten Worst Films of 2014 - Part 1"
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Perhaps part 4 will be split into part 4.1 then 4,2.

killboggins good point

Its about continuity not money
Its about profile and therefore money,
When is part 2 coming?
I'm guessing Transformers 4 is gonna be Mr. Kermode's no.1 worst film of 2014.
why split them in two parts?
it probably isn't mark's decision, but why split these up?
I nearly much always agree with Mark, but I have to admit it, I know, shameful as t sounds I actually quite enjoy Mrs Bowns Boys
That nicole kidman curse continues, I swear she has some serious connections to keep just showing up in film after film....
I'm dreading... what films are so bad that they knocked Grace of Monaco from top position to not even in the top 5? That said, I can't wait to find out. :)
In Grace of Monaco's favour though, it isn't afraid to be a PG. None of this single unnecessary F word to boot it up to a 12
if Edge of Tomorrow doesn't get into Kermode's top ten I will lose all hope for humanity
thoroughly agree with SC2, one of my biggest disappointments of the year, vacuous!
Wait, there are 6 films WORSE than Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie?
I thought Sin City 2 was an improvement over the original; I was more invested in the stories, especially Dwight's (the only story which I found tedious and blatantly terrible in the original), and it contained all the great, over the top action that I wanted to see again. Eva Green is a joy to watch.
Well, ok... I disagree...
Good for you callum. But it's still a shitty sequel
Lol where do I begin? Boring, uninspired and the "script" was total garbage.who wrote this movie a brain damaged toddler with lupus?
Only good thing about Grace Of Monaco (from what I've seen) the car
I wish Sin City 2 wasn't on the list, i loved it, well because im pretty much a sucker for any Robert Rodriguez movie, bar shorts and sharkboy and lavagirl they are terrible, i'm in the miniority though :(
No Michael Bay entries! Could the unthinkable be on the cards?
An MB free bottom ten!
Horrible Bosses 2 and Nativity 3 for top 5 then?
Please no more! I can't take anymore!
My pick for worst movie of time is "Ator the Fighting Eagle"
+vernon jackson And while it doesn't make my Top Ten or anywhere near I still think "Dance's with Wolves" was way too over rated of course Kevin Costner isn't that great an actor either
You saw Sin City 2? Where's the review then?
Sin City 1? I think you mean the original Dr K!
The Canyons was really badly directed and the actual quality was so rubbish. It could have been good because it had a good an interesting story by Ellis, shame really
He liked Sin City 1? For someone as quick to cry misogyny as Mark, that does rather surprise me.
Very true. And as I recall he previously called Sin City baggy and far too long on Newsnight and said that it was empty-headed vacuous nonsense when discussing Shoot Em Up. So maybe the style of Sin City pulled the wool over his eyes like it did for most people.

I thought it was alright, but just dragged on too long. The sequel has a much better length.
Is Sin City misogynistic? It's got some pretty tough women.
Might see 300: rise of an empire on the top 5
Glad Sin City 2 was trashed by the critics and bombed at the box office. How comes it took so long for people to release that Frank Miller is such a bad writer with a neanderthal attitude towards women that would make even Stephenie Meyer feel dirty about it?
He probably went broke, so decided to make a sequel he didn't want to.
+Mr. Veteran hah, meyer would probably welcome it considering she has included pedophilia and spousal abuse into her works :D
My worst movies of 2014:
1) The Interview
2) Noah
3) Transformers 4
4) 300: Rise of an Empire
5) Godzilla
6) I, Frankenstien
7) Dracula Untold
8) Sex Tape
9) The Expendables 3
10) Guardians of the Galaxy
I wasn't a fan of guardians of the galaxy either but in the top 10 worst films this year??! Not a chance

David RF Agree with most of what you said
***** Didn't watch that. And I won't. :) I guess in this case we're not even talking about movies anymore...
David RF
God forbid a comic book movie actually try to have fun with its characters and not brood all the time...
Nah sin city 2 was awesome
First
