I am watching this in 2020. Yes Covid 19 has driven me to watch stuff on RUclips that is well past its sell by date. Mark didn't like 'Let me in' but I see it has 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and was nominated for a number of awards. I would like to hear his comments on the film ten years later.
"Let Me In" is terrible. The original 2008 swedish film "Let The One Right In" is an absolute masterpiece, not just an horror but a really intelligent and heartfelt social drama, it didn't need a remake. And the remakers didn't even understand the original at all. As Mark righty said: "Let The One Right In is a film about kids that happens to feature vampires, Let Me In is a film about vampires that just happens to feature kids".
"It's like watching all those things you loved as a kid being smashed up by somebody just intent on squeezing money out of franchises" - EXACTLY my reaction to Transformers.
The problem there is the source material is just too full of wordy descriptions of cobbles and leaves. When the source material is already an animated tv show, where artistic interpretation is limited, adapting it is arguably harder to get right

The characters, which were one of the biggest highlights of the show, were reduced to emotionless exposition-bots (and stilted acting didn't help), and the themes presented in the show are not in the movie...they basically chose to adapt the action scenes and not much else. You could look at the surface of the movie and see that the story is similar, but they basically took out the important parts of the show. But, giving credit where credit is due, the effects (apart from the infamous 5-bender-1-rock scene) are pretty good, and the music is really good, and it looks really colorful and the sets are amazing...but even the action scenes are kinda dull because the bending isn't snappy and quick like the show. Still, in terms of a movie, it fails. In terms of an adaption, it fails. And even though some of it is amazing to look at, there are better looking movies to watch. And since both the show and the movie are both in a visual medium, there wasn't any reason to adapt this in the first place. So really, it's better to just watch the show.

This movie is to Jamie lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver (two wonderful and super talented actors) as "Old Dogs" was for Robin Williams and John Travolta.

Hell yeah...Predator 2 was actually a really good sequel...loved the idea of the Predator in the city. No Arnie tho...which sort of lessens it a bit...but still...I tell you man that year was the worst year for me at the movies ever. I don't usually go as much as I'd like because its too pricey but I usually end up seeing good stuff if I go. That year I bought the hype and saw Paranormal activity 2 and predators one after the other.....I had to see Sherlock Holmes to restore my faith in film!

@thisisverynotgood I can defend people who claim that Kermode is highly opinionated, but a snob? He likes Twilight and the Harry Potter series, unashamedly. He called Babel "Art with a capital F." He thought Last Days was a bunch of self-important tripe. Inception is his favourite movie of 2010. I see a snob as someone who puts their standing among other film fans above actual taste, and Kermode doesn't do that - I don't always agree with him, but he is is most definitely not a snob.
A lot of new viewers of 'Let The Right One In' will **ONLY** have seen it because they saw how good 'Let Me In' is. If 'Let Me In' had been crap, they wouldn't have bothered to track down the original version.

In my opinion he's one of the few critics who doesn't give such films good review out of fear of looking unsophisticated, he doesn't care what people think about him.
