during the supercar scare the XA were reaching top speeds well over 160 mph . If you do buy a GT it basically has the phase 4 parts .
Check your facts. Imports, like the Challenger was in Australia, were not and have never been banned because of their performance capabilities.

@@finnaadlxy7549 not necessarily, I'm Australian too, though you are forgetting the Corvette Stingray (with the side pipes), Dodge Coronet and the Shelby Cobra. Ford had more powerful V8 (XA GTHO was a monster) and Holden's had better power to weight (Holden A9X)

The Challenger might have had a better shot with the 440 Magnum. Though giving away more HP as the 440 only had 375 HP, the Hemi 426 takes longer to open up on the straight.

I think the Camaro would win the first quarter mile or so thanks to superior firepower and short gears, then the Mustang will pull on it because its higher-revving engine would top out far later.

I think it's wrong. The Ford has slightly less power, but it's way lighter. I think nearly 200kg. Strange considering Aussie cars are big 4 doors

The ford was designed, engineered and built in Australia only.

yikes.. this is fake as hell! LOL Funny though. Challenger wasn't the fast car in the USA in 1970....Challenger was a moderate preformer. The USA had cars on the road that were doing 12 sec 1/4 mile time right off the factory line. Challengers were doing about 13s and 14s depending on the engine you bought.
I think the XA GTHO wasn't tested on the 1/4 mile. The other 3 race cars where circuit cars, so I don't know. That 1 green GTHO was snatched up and put under covers. It's literally 1 of a kind. 4 made, but 3 where stripped out racers. Another rare Aussie car is the HRT 427, only 2 where made and they both share the racing Corvette engine from the C5R. In the early 1970's, I think the XA GT-HO (if tested properly in a car magazine) would of been Australia's fastest car

Ther XA GTHO is the wrong colour. Only 4 were built. 3 red & 1 green.

Both cars were slower then several Italian and English cars of the era - the Jensen Interceptor had the 440, and was available with AWD, and a Six-Pack carb arrangement.
It eats the Falcon alive... and wasn't even close to the Miura's performance, or the 911RSR.
Those cars had no problem getting registered at the time, neither would the Challenger.
The Super Car Scare was a media beat up about 'Family Saloons with Supercar performance'.
Oh/And,... 4 Phase fours, sure, but the 200 engines, went in LTD's and Police cars :D
