I remember back in the early 1970s are family would take a trip going around the whole lake of Lake Superior. Starting in Duluth, Minnesota. It was fun fun fun
We have spent many summers in Wisconsin and have fished on Lake Michigan, my husband comes from Sturgeon Bay! Been to many museums, went on a tugboat, saw the huge ships come into the bay, wish I didn’t hate the cold and snow weather! Most of his relatives live there still! I was a year old when Pearl Harbor was attacked! I still remember my mom and dad had to place newspapers on all the house windows, as well on the headlights on dads car! There was a little slit in the middle of the lights so he could see to drive at night! If you ever get to Honolulu, you should go see the Arizona Memorial! So territorial, it’s brings to your eyes!
Sturgeon Bay is a cool place but then again so is the rest of Door County. We go to SB every year, rent a room at the Bridgeport Resort and watch all the huge ships come in and dock at the Fincantieri Shipbuilding Company for repairs. It's as close to heaven as one could get without actually being there. As far as the Silversides, Chicago gave the sub to Muskegon 20-25 years ago. it's good to see that Muskegon did something nice with it as it sat docked for years at Navy Pier in Chicago just taking up space. Chicago did nothing with it.
Love MI, Lake Michigan! I have been up the Shore line years ago. Hope to get back Soon, Enjoy St. Joseph, South Haven & Saugatuck ! Great Towns for you to visit with Light Houses! Thanks Russ!
Oh boy!! Another road trip video, and it’s super long! I can hardly wait to experience this Russ! You are a wonder, thank you so much for all that you do! Thanks to you I’ve planned an epic road trip of my own for this summer with the wife and kids through the Daktotas and Wyoming. Keep on trucking, and talk soon!
Seems my RUclips has a Loop to your Michigan videos. I sure love your videos they don't get boring. I'm in Illinois & MI has been close to me for 67 years. Do I go there, no. It was always work and save money now I'm retired and still sit!
I don’t know if you know do USS badger is part of US10 US Highway 10 (US 10) is a part of the United States Numbered Highway System that runs from West Fargo, North Dakota, to the Lower Peninsula of the US state of Michigan. The highway enters Michigan on SS Badger, which crosses Lake Michigan between Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and Ludington. As the highway crosses the state, it is a two-lane undivided highway between Ludington and Farwell and a freeway from Farwell east to the highway's terminus in Bay City. US 10 runs concurrently with US 127 in the Clare area along a section of freeway that includes a welcome center in the median. Outside of the Clare and Midland areas, US 10 runs through rural areas of West and Central Michigan in a section of the Manistee National Forest as well as farmfields.
Russ thank you for another fantastic video. Never new Lake Michigan area could be so nice until your trip. The ship and Sub were so cool to see. My Dad was a WW2 vet so it had extra meaning for me. Very nice and you take care see you again.
I finished in 3 days this very nice road trip with scenery view and beautiful lake in Michigan. I wish one day I can come there. Watching from Sharjah, UAE. From Bataan, Philippines. 🇦🇪 🇵🇭
At time stamp 2:33, Camp Betsy fyi: Those aren’t old piers or docks you see at the beach. They are put there to control sand movement & for sand retention. Not for boats😏 I’m back down Ludington way right by the State Park:) Welcome to my home. Great video. I just moved back from San Diego- it took an ocean to replace my Lake Michigan. I was fun being a tourist through someone else’s eyes!
When I'm up till late night i like to watch your videos because there peaceful and not loud like many. If you ever wanted to film yourself relaxing around a campfire i bet I'm not the only one that would enjoy that. But i will watch regardless. Thanks
Next time you’re in Holland Michigan, another cool place to visit is Holland Island gardens… has beautiful tulip 🌷 gardens in spring, which are replanted in annuals in summer. Has an authentic windmill, and many other features that were brought in from the Netherlands from back in the days they came there. Beautiful place your garden loving viewers would enjoy.
I believe you are actually referring to Windmill Island in Holland. Born & raised in Holland and actually grew up in the neighborhood that is across Lake Macatawa from Windmill Island.
I greatly appreciate the videos. I like your relaxed yet enthusiastic delivery, and your choice of music. So many of these types of videos have obnoxious music, but yours is calm and doesn't get in the way. I'm picky about that stuff. Ha. Oh and I also like how you show where you are on the map from time to time. Helps put it in perspective and helps me visualize where I might like to visit if I'm there myself. Anyway thanks!
Down at St. Joseph MI. if you go for a ride in one of the huge boats that cruises the shore line you would see the houses that the land along the Lake shore has washed (or is washing) away and the houses are falling into the Lake! It surely is something to see. Also the sand there at St. Joseph is called "singing sands" because when you walk across the sand it makes a sound. There are only two places along the Lake that has "singing sands". Holland has an actual windmill that was sent to Michigan from Holland! Grand Haven has a water fountain that has a beautiful color/music display that lasts an hour or so....worth seeing. When I was a little girl no one knew how dangerous the Lake really is. We all played in the Lake with no worry. Then when I was a young woman they started to see just how dangerous the Lake is. Now they say to treat Lake Michigan like it is an Ocean. Not that it IS an Ocean, but it can be as dangerous as an Ocean! People really do get swept of the pier & drowning. It is fun watching you go over land that I am so familiar with! xxxooo Judie Lake (80 yrs. old)
Another great video. I look forward to watching your videos every week. Your travels are something most people can only dream about. I'll be heading out on my own travels soon, but sure i won't be able to travel all the places you've been.
We loved the entire video! Just as with the Ohio video, when we clicked on it, my husband said, “oh it is soooo long”! We watched the Ohio and Michigan videos in full. You are the perfect tour guide 😊
Wow Russ this was a very educational trip for me. As person a who lives in the south west and never traveled eastward, Michigan is beautiful. Green green grass and OMG the water for miles and miles, so ocean like. Thanks for the beautiful pictures of the water ways because being from the south west, I almost forgot what a lake with water is suppose to look like. Thanks for the ride along . Be well and may you have blessed travels ahead.
Nice video Russ spent a couple of weeks in Rochester Michigan last October very nice Michigan definitely has some beautiful spots. Thanks again for the great video.
When you went from Muskegon to Pentwater, you missed out on perhaps the best area of the trip. Silver Lake State Park and Little Sable Pointe Lighthouse. It was just five miles before you left the highway for Pentwater. It's much nicer than Mears State Park.
1st time viewer here. I can't believe I watched the whole video. Thank you for highlighting my home state. You did a great job informing, touring and editing.
Love the videos you make, btw you missed duck lake in Muskegon! I've never been to Grand Haven so thanks for showing us. Now I'd like to go!! I've always gone to St Joe which is really nice too. I like how you laugh like Skidward from sponge Bob and say "kewl!" 😅
My wife and I enjoy watching you going to the states. Are these nice beautiful places down here thank you very much sir for your beautiful service wondering if you all these beautiful towns God bless you sir
I’ve just started leaving my dog in a doggy day care when traveling if I want to do museums or whatever I can’t bring a dog too. In CT I was able to find Camp Bow Wow which I loved, they have cameras so that you can watch your dog when you want to. They’re in small groups with a person at all times. There are lots of them across the country, but not everywhere. Also some kennels let you pay by the hour or for 1/2 day to leave your dog . Usually the first time is a trial and it’s free. Love your filming, brings me right back there!
We did a 2 day trip up the east coast of Lake Michigan. It was fun. There's a few ships you can go through parked around Michigan. Thanks for the video Russ.
It’s so pretty in the great lakes area during the summer I moved to Erie, Pennsylvania on the lake in the 90s and immediately fell in love, but the love affair was over after three winters and headed back to the south west USA as soon as I could lol thanks for your videos I really enjoy watching!
Great video. My wife and I have recently discovered your channel. Love your travel video's. We were very impressed with how clean and tidy Michigan is. Thanks for sharing.
Russ, you're a great tour guide. I watched Arizona run last night. Since I grew up in Holland Michigan, I was interested in your Michigan trip. Interesting info on Holland... The town has Dutch heritage and has a Tulip Time festival in May every year. Draws about half a million people now a days. It's quite a tourist destination. The whole town is shut down during the daytime. It use to be 2 week celebration. Now it's about 5 or 6 weeks.
Tulip Time is only about a week and always has been. It definitely doesn’t go for 5-6 weeks. I was born & raised in Holland and have lived near it my whole life. I was also in Dutch Dance for 3 years in high school during Tulip Time.
LST'S could not unload to the beach. It carried beach landers to put the troops on the beach. When I was in the U.S.M.C. we used ambitious vehicles to disembark the ship. Any way really enjoyed seeing a LST again been 40 years. Enjoyed the video keep up the good work.
The excavator is used to stack the rocks to prevent beach erosion, which saves the house at the top of the hill. You'll see this all along the lakeshore.
Hi Russ. Thank you for your great videos. As many times as I have been to Mackinaw City. I never knew about McGulpin Point Lighthouse and Heritage Village. Went to top of lighthouse such a fantastic view. Took the 1/2 mile hike down to the beach with my small dog. Beautiful.. Thank you for show these stops. Enjoyed it so much. Then on to the island .. biking around the island . Was a fantastic weekend. Thank you again 😊❤
Thanks so much I really enjoyed the video I live in MUSKEGON MICHIGAN so it was nice to see my town on video glad you enjoyed your visit to Muskegon Mi there's a state park on the other side of the channel very nice place spent many of days down at the lake a lot cooler. At the lake ☺️
The ferry in the movie was portrayed as "Detroit, MI to Racine, WI" Considering Detroit is in the SOUTHEAST corner of Michigan and Wisconsin is across Lake Michigan that ferry would have had to travel all the way up Lake Huron, across the Straits of Mackinac then almost the entire length of Lake Michigan. Needless to say, it doesn't exist.
I really enjoyed this video. I am planning on doing what is called The Great Loop in a few years. That is a trip around the eastern US from Florida, up the east coast, taking several routes on the old Erie Canal System with one way you go, head out of those at Buffalo onto Lake Erie, up through Detroit and into Lakes Huron and Michigan. At Chicago you enter the inland rivers, making your way to the Gulf Coast and back to Florida. I am going to go the Lake Erie route to stop in places in Ohio on Lake Erie and then on to the part of Michigan you explored here. You video for me is a form of "video reconnaissance." I loved it that you toured the LST, Sub and old Coast Guard Cutter. I plan to make it to many of those places by boat. Be safe in your travels.
Must have been early when you were in grand haven. It's usually packed with people and bumper to bumper. And in the winter. The light house is covered with ice. Crazy formed ice lol
Born & raised in Holland MI, now reside near Grand Rapids MI. I’ve never moved too far from my hometown.
I remember visiting Holland State Park for the day with my sister. The beach and swimming was wonderful. Take a picnic to the beach.
I'm a a born and raised Michigander...am temporarily in Texas...I love this video, makes me sooooo home sick. Thank-You!!!!!
I really enjoyed the tour of Lake Michigan.
I remember back in the early 1970s are family would take a trip going around the whole lake of Lake Superior. Starting in Duluth, Minnesota. It was fun fun fun
If you go back, consider stopping at Silver Lake. Between Muskegon and Pentwater. Huge dunes with Dune Buggy rides. Worth the stop.
Thanks Russell, I luv it here, there are 11,000 lakes in michigan
Hey, Hey, RVerTV Russ, Thanks for letting us all set back and enjoy the ride in Michigan, YEA👍

Awe, go traveling. It's fun and doesn't cost that much if you drive and do your research on motels, etc.
Put on your boogie shoes and go

Love the videos you make, btw you missed duck lake in Muskegon! I've never been to Grand Haven so thanks for showing us. Now I'd like to go!! I've always gone to St Joe which is really nice too. I like how you laugh like Skidward from sponge Bob and say "kewl!" 😅

I’ve just started leaving my dog in a doggy day care when traveling if I want to do museums or whatever I can’t bring a dog too. We did a 2 day trip up the east coast of Lake Michigan. It was fun. There's a few ships you can go through parked around Michigan. Thanks for the video Russ.

My husband served USN 🇺🇸🇻🇮. 2 years on LST’s in Viet Nam rivers . Grateful he came back home.🇺🇸🙏
Hey Russ great Michigan experience thanks love it! By the way those little white floaters in the air/water around Grand Haven are from Dogwood trees
Hi, thank you so much for touring that beautiful submarine metres old Navy man happy to see thank you very very much sir

Hey Russ!! We get to visit Michigan for our 1st time this year. What is a great video to help with some planning 😊
Hope you enjoy it!

Absolutely enjoy watching your videos. 😊
Very pretty area. Wouldn't want to be there in the winter. I lived i a suburb of chicago for 3 yrars. They call latter the Windy City. Good name. Lol
I have to share: At the first beach, when you said “excavator” I heard “escalator” and for a second I thought, well, that’s getting fancy. 🤣🤣
Nice video. I stay 30 minutes north from Holland mi
Must have been early when you were in grand haven. It's usually packed with people and bumper to bumper. And in the winter. The light house is covered with ice. Crazy formed ice lol
Thanks for the pictures. And the ride
I just discovered you and I so enjoy your videos! I like your happy cheerful attitude! Thank you so much!
