My 3X Great Grandfather, Isaac Coddington, was the first lighthouse keeper of the Presque Isle Range Lights. Also Roger's Quarry was originally Crawford's Quarry founded by my ancestors. Thank you for the nostalgic trip.

When you mentioned McClellan AirForce Base in Sacramento, it brought me wonderful memories and flashbacks of when I moved there in 1977, from Hawaii.. my Band and Polynesian Show used to perform there at the Officers’ Club. There was another big AirForce Base called Mather, about 8 miles away, in East Sacramento(Ranch Cordova)..both closed.
    Aloha 🤙

Love seeing Oscoda again! My husband was stationed at Wurtsmith after high school in 1989. We met later in life, but he took me to Oscoada for the first time in 2009. It was like taking a walk back in time. I think it was the first trip or the return trip in 2011 that we found the Pure Michigan travel brochure. On the front was Pictured Rocks in Munising, MI in the UP. We fell in love with the UP on our first visit. We try to make it back every year, at least every other year. Lol Northern Michigan is a gorgeous place to visit! Thanks for sharing!

Russ, I'm glad that the rock only hit your window and wall of the van. That would've probably been more than just a little ouchie if it hit you. I'm still watching the video, and besides seeing the rock damage, I'm really enjoying the scenery there.

Russ ! That freighter Wheelhouse you were in at Calsite MI, I was in it in 1970, When I was 8 ! I have a photo standing near the railing by the door, it was located in the Rodgers City Quarry back then. Also long waited for the Van side Window 'Blow out' The same window I watched you and a friend install 5 years ago in the Lk Havasu garage. It figures a rock hit it in Michigan on the Highway, as I'm in MI. of all places., a long layover to get the part and install I see (Rare for you). Usually, it's the Windshield that takes the hit on our MI roads, rock chips !

Hey Russ, just an interesting fact regarding the canoe racing you mentioned while in Oscoda. It is a huge affair and is actually one of the longest canoe marathons in the world. It begins in Graying, Mi which is hundreds of miles upstream. Usually starts around 9P.M. on a Friday or Saturday night. Tandem teams paddle what used to be known as "222 Boats". They were 22 inches wide, 22 feet long and weighed just 22 pounds. Yes, they were fast! Racers would paddle all night in the darkness and the fastest would finish in AuSauble/Oscoda around 11A.M. the following morning. They said paddling in this race was akin to standing in front of a coal pile and throwing shovels full of coal over your shoulders for fourteen consecutive hours! Fun, eh?

My son and I used to tent camp at Harrisville, then head to Oscoda kayaking or canoing down the Au Sable. Great to see these sites again.
So very sorry about your window. But glad you got to explore the area. Fun place..

Yo Russ, you've landed in my hometown Oscoda. I see you started your exploration at Three Mile Beach. My granddaughter lives directly across US. 23 from the beach is able to walk there daily. I'm commenting as you're leaving 3 Mile. Your second stop was City Beach. That was the hangout when we were young people about 100 years ago . Down behind the Ford dealer was our family farm that was established in the mid-1800s. We had our son and daughter-in-law's wedding rehearsal dinner on the Au Sable River Queen paddle boat Looking forward to the rest of the video.

Yay! More videos of Michigan. Wife and I lived in Alpena way back in the early to mid 70's. Now near Iron Mountain in the U.P. Very much enjoy all your videos especially of Michigan, the Yoop and your van build. I have a question though. Did you not have any video of your travels last summer of the drive from Calumet Mi. across the Lake Superior shoreline to the Soo Locks. Watched your videos of the Western portion of the U.P (Ontonagon, Calumet, etc) and the Soo Locks and down to St Ignace, across the Big Mac. and on to Mackinac City then further south along the Sun Rise side of the Mitten along U.S.23. What became of the video that I presumed you would have M28 westward through Marquette, Munising and through The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore? I was certain you would have stopped at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point. You would have loved it! Many of the recovered artifacts of the Edmund Fitchgerald are on display there. Including the ship's bell. Every year on November 10th Gordon Lightfoot would contribute to the memorial celebration there in person up until his passing this last year. Just thought it curious that no video was taken along one of the most beautiful scenic drives in the midwest. Maybe it was the weather, or technical difficulties, ha, ha? I hope there is still footage of this section hiding somewhere within your vast amount of film storage waiting to be edited and uploaded. Sorry for your window incident and the delays it caused. Again, love and have watched nearly all your videos. Even went back in time to watch your archives after discovering your channel! ........... "Talk Soon"!
