Spiritbox have been one of my biggest obsessions the last few years. I saw them live last year and one of the best gigs I've been to ever. The live vocal one take of this song is even more impressive
Welcome to Spiritbox. Formed in Victoria BC Canada in 2017, by lead singer Courtney LaPlante and her husband , guitarist Mike Stringer, after parting with their former band Iwrestledabearonce. Zev Rose on drums since 2020. Bassist Josh Gilbert (ex- As I Lay Dying) joined in 2022, made permanent last year. From what I've heard, Josh does some clean vocals in the live shows now. A multi genre band using heavy metal, metalcore, Djent, prog, alt metal, some electronic elements. A lot of songs are a mix of cleans and harsh, some all harsh and some all clean. 1 full album and 4 EP's to date. Like Tatiana, Courtney can switch between clean and harsh with ease. Yeah ,I love this band too.🤘🤘. Looks like you're jumping in at the right time, they are going on a European headlining tour in February. This song and "Rule of Nines" also have vocal one take videos. "Holy Roller" for all harsh, "Constance" for all clean. And "Jaded" for newer.
Hey, and welcome to another incredible band! Not necessarily for reaction purposes, but you owe it to yourself to watch the single-take live vocal version of this. If you thought Courtney's voice was good here? Just wait... Some more Spiritbox recommendations for you: Holy Roller, Jaded, Rotoscope, Cellar Door, Constance, Too Close/Too Late, Rule of Nines (live one-take vocal).
Surprised me last night during the Opening Ceremonies… I think Kelly Clarkson was praising Gojira (French Metal Band) collabing with Marina Viotti (Opera Singer). They sounded amazing!
Married couple Courtney LaPlante and Mike Stringer is the core of the band, and they explore different ways of being heavy. Sometimes Courtney only does cleans, sometimes only screams. She's also done a few one take vocal versions of some songs, including this one. Check out the one take of Rule of Nines! For a really brutal song, Cellar Dooe. Or, for a different kind of heavy, Constance. Spiritbox recently toured with British band Architects. I think you would like them. Animals is a great song
Back in 2018, I was fighting throat cancer, and began developing an appreciation of metal - I guess as a way of dealing with the middle-finger-to-God mindset that comes with that. It was Architects "Brand New Doomsday" that helped me get through that. Spiritbox has some of that same feel. Thanks for introducing me to them! A couple other bands that don't get many reactions are The Contortionist and Karnivool. You might like them. As always, love your reactions and thoughts on these bands.
You should do a two song reaction to them. Two from their latest EP to get a full spectrum of what they can do. They are back to back songs on the album. First one is called Too Close/Too Late and the next song is Angel Eyes.
Technical merits are just fine. Your audio on the videos is good. Your voice is nicely balanced. You pause just enough. Bonus: you didn't say "Without further ado." 😂 I agree with you about the extreme female singers these days. To me these are the best two--Tatiana from Jinjer and Courtney from Spiritbox. The quality of the clean voice is the key. But these two also have the best screams in my humble opinion.
Yes, women are increasingly adopting this style of singing that was once reserved exclusively for men, and that's wonderful. And the future is also secured. For example, look at the young British girl Harper with her song "Bird in a cage".

Yes, I love the juxtaposition of her clean vocals against her harsh vocals and how effortlessly she moves between the two. She's equally as good live!

Hey Eric. I appreciate your sharing your reactions. Thanks man! So who was the one band you were stuck on?
BABYMETAL
They sucked me in with the cuteness, the brutality of the riffs, the choreo, just all of it had me roped.

You should definitely check out Courtney's one-take vocal of this. It's amazing!
Hey, you should check out Floor Jansen in her previous band Revamp song Wildcard live in Bloodstock festival in 2014, awesome request 😊

Please react to Novelists too! Also a female singer/screamer, the song “prisoner “ you will love!
Hey, you should definitely check out Spiritbox Holy Roller official music video, awesome 😎 request 😊
