I just grabbed a gen 6 454 block to build a 496. I’m glad I came across this video because I was wanting 700 hp with a hydraulic cam. I was also thinking the AFR 315 would make a nice street rod head.
I have to see what it does with the other heads still. the winter weather here has kept us from making the last pulls. I plan to show the dominator tests as well. 2/17 looks to be the day though.
I have an in-tank pump and he just has low pressure so it won't happen. The fitech ran within a few hundredths so I'm not too concerned. We ran a spacer that I have back when this was a 489 making 590 hp. it was worth 3 hp. it was a cheap Mr Gasket one, 1" thick. I will have a nitrous plate under this looking to spray 2-250 sooner or later. I ran the 100 shot way too low on timing. it was only 31* with 3 pulled. that was a big difference from the 38* here. should be a fun 2020.
Can’t wait to see how mine does. Our setups are extremely similar. Mines a 496 with 10.34 to 1 compression, except my cam is a solid roller .668/.685 lift , 279/285 duration with a smooth lobe separation (110 I think). Only other difference is I have some iron 325cc heads I’m running. Yours undoubtedly flow way better lol we will see.
@@infamousnova complete now, but I’ve decided not to waste the $500 on an engine dyno but just take to a drive on dyno once the car is finished. I still have one panel left to do some body work, then I have to paint, take the dash back out and replace the heater core, then put the drivetrain back in the car before we see numbers. It takes time when you build an entire car yourself guys…. Oh and also I ended up getting rid of those heads at the auto fair and bought some Brodix DS320s instead so it’s going to make some power no doubt.

The mid pipe section was later removed and it was determined to reduce 22 hp. This suggests 714 hp with open headers at 10.3 compression.
What octane did you run? I’m building a 454 (my first big block) for my car that I drive on the street I’m looking for a build to base it off my last motor (350 bored .60) made 330 hp and 360 tq but the tq flat lined at 1800 and was flat until 6000 I’m still learning
Do you still have the PN for the straub cam you used? They have a few different bbc cams. Also do you remember what valvesprings you had for this setup?
The cam was not an off the shelf part number. I told I wanted pk rpm around 6400 and the rest of the combo. At the time I didn't want lobes that required a girdle, shaft rockers, or anything exotic for the drag and drive events. The springs are Pac 1940 that AFR used for hyd roller.
She will do that all day and give the same numbers over and over that's a nice build you sure do know what your doing no doubt ! Love the sound and the motor what's it going in if you don't mind me asking.?
1972 Nova. Since this refresh it took second place in Rocky mountain race week big block NA. This past weekend it took first place in a street car class at the local track. I won the finals race NA. I sprayed past a couple other competitors.
The car was purchased in 1990 and already had subframe connectors. Before I added cal tracs it was a 1.7x 60ft car. Probably 500 hp back then. Since adding power it's been 1.35 on a good surface on a 255x60 drag radial. I did add Detroit speed body mounts a few years back since the rubber oems were junk. That's really it
@@bure4me the reason I ask is because I have a 1964 Malibu I want to put a big block in it after watching all of your videos. I think I might try a 540 dart big block. My dad says he didn’t think the car would be able to take it without putting an entire new frame under the car and I was just checking your set up because I know you are around 800 hp.
@BradleyMercer-gg9sk a good buddy rolls around in a 66 chevelle with similar power small block with Nitrous to what I make on engine. He just has the largest rear sway bar and 9 inch with adjustable shock mount to lower or raise bolt position. Big g garage is his channel
Funny you should ask. I drove over 3 scales on race week and it was different every time. Lowest with no nitrous bottle and main tank fuel level being kind of low for racing 11-12 gallons 3535 race weight. With nitrous bottles and varying fuel level 3560-3600.
100%. I have done 2 rocky mtn race week events where you drive in 100° weather for 1200 miles in 6 days and drag race. I haven't touched the valve adjustment for a year since it was last assembled. I'm probably at 3000 miles or more already
It isn't a kit. The crank and rods are Molnar technologies. Pistons are Autotec. I ordered through Mike Lewis of Lewis racing engines in California. He is a dealer and parts are usually drop shipped. He did the balance job though so not drop shipped in this case. I was going to run Scat but they were back ordered on 1 pc main cranks at the time so I went with Molnar for a little more. The rods would have been similar in cost to scat but Molnar already had ARP2000 bolts and it was an upgrade for Scat.
Not everyone has the same target for peak rpm, same head flow etc. I'm pointing out it doesn't have to be a huge spring pressure solid roller. I have a video where I give all the specs. It's not a shelf cam so people should get what their combo requires.
@@infamousnova 1050 dominator didn't really outperform the 1050 4150 despite the taller intake. For daily drivi g it runs on a fitech power adder model.

Good luck with the build. Afr305 would be a good choice as well and maybe save a few bucks. Do the cnc chamber though

Need to get a vacuum source on the crankcase, it will help with oiling issues.
That poor driveshaft twisty is gonna be it's new name in whatever she goes in lol

93 with a mix of lucas oil octane boost. I've run 11:1 on straight 93 with aluminum heads. This was 10.3 easily could have run 93.
Would you happen to have the build sheet I could base mine off of?

Curious to what spring pressures you used on this combo?
Pac1940 spring if I recall. 195 closed, ~500 open, 469 lb spring rate
