Have you set your dyno graft for 300rpm? Better graft that way.
Am I eligible to enter being from Canada?
Would look real nice in my 88 C1500, hell I'd even paint match the body to the engine.
When the winner is chosen, will you show proof of them receiving it?
@@NRJracingi agree, i doubt it tho and what do we gotta spend
That 496 will look very good under the hood of my 1969 CST/10 396!!!
I love watching power nation
Vizard has a 496 combo with 236/240* cam and TFS 280 oval port heads. 721 bhp and 711 lb-ft. Your 498 can use an even smaller cam with those big ports (106* LSA).
My 96 caprice would shake the streets with this engine
"Allsome!" - Frankie
Love to see the dynos match up! “That means everybody’s stuff is right”
Awesome engine guys. Really nice paint job!!!!
Great color combo
I am entering every chance I can. My '69 Chevelle always needs more power.
Big block I love you.
Awesome show guys
5.4K+👍's up P N thank you for sharing 😅
Simply awesome guy’s 👍🏻
Who is worried about low end torque with an 8.1L engine? Go with the RPM build!
A real low end torque motor would be a pleasant experience from this channel, INSTEAD of claiming to build a torque motor and then winding it out to 7000RPM!
tbf you can build a BBC that revs to 7k that makes over 500ft-lbs from 1000rpm up, if thats not a tq monster nothing is@@towgod7985
@@towgod7985 Still makes huge torque down low
You guy should build a 366 or 427 tall deck truck engine. I would love to see a stock dyno and modified dyno.
I have a 496 tall deck. It's a monster 👻
Power Nation Tattoo... Please believe iT ! !
That's a mean Mustang with near 1000 at the wheels! Also, can someone install that big block in my Trail Boss? 😂
That's a gorgeous engine 😍
Definitely drop that into a 79 Coupe de Ville and watch peoples reaction to this one.
We used to run the mark 4 marine blocks, bored to 468,with tunnel ram 1050's, a glide and big stall, and it ran hard. Once we switched to LS7's though, there was no going back, like night and day.
Great video
Thank you for including the season/episode number in the title.
Great job 👍🇦🇺
Beautiful engine would look beautiful in my stepside 🔥 I need to watch all the videos of this engine
I see Junior has a little pocket protector now...😂😂👍👍👍
lmao
Esses motores são prazerosos só de olhar
I have to say, you guys have my dream job.
Hell yeah
635 horse is pretty good for an NA motor, even an 8-liter. And it makes like 70-80% peak torque right off idle. That's what ya gotta love about big-displacement American V8's - they're just brute strength in engine form.
@PowerNationTV. Nice works guys! But I have a genuine challenge for you. Either a GM series 2 3800 S/C of course (but that’s simple) OR a 4.0L L47 NORTHSTAR! The 4.0 is the one with racing pedigree and we all know how Cadillac loves to race. Can you guys build an ITB Indy style DOHC V8. The architecture of the northstar is very similar to the Atlas/family 4200, The same old small/big block builds gets really stale.
I signed up earlier I’m going to manifest this for my stepside 🖤🔥
Not going to ice the intake i love it!
Used to push barges full of race and jet fuel from one refinery to another 2 miles away, Conoco to citgo lake charles, and they'd add their own additives and sell it... People think every company makes their own fuel, but a lot of them trade back and forth every day.
I got the best rig for that big 496.... 1971 3 door GMC carryall 3/4ton 4x4 on 37s.... Only 50 were made 😎😁
I wanna slide this in my 1931 Ford model A. And do wheelies with it leaving cars and coffee 😂
I am entered to win. My Nova would love that engine!
This would go solid in a GMT400 platform
I gotta have one 🔥🏁 496 that is
Fc from Thailand ❤❤
Im keeping my 496 in the 750hp setup in my 81 camaro i can afford to loose a few ft lbs of torque
Man that 496 would look sweet in my 91 Comanche. It's just a garage Jeep anyways, I go to NAPA and the restaurant now and then just to show off....lol
I need this for my '85 bronco.
That Duralast battery is absolute trash 😂
The 496BBC final form
Would love to see you guys build an old Ford 534 super duty engine. Could be a hit 😅
THAT LOOKS LIKE IT WOULD FIT MY OBS GMC
Loved the different iterations... Would have loved to have seen what it would have made with a spacer I'm sure a racy engine will get a hood scoop of some sort... Also I think that the hp/tq curve would have looked better/flatter if you would have put the EFI back on, would make tuning it easier, better drivability, better starting, and best of all more power. Just saying 😉
That’s actually incorrect. Carburetors make a squeeze more power. Fuel from a carburetor runs through the intake and cools the intake air making a little bit more power.
You don’t get that effect with port injection.
@@loganh2233 only peak not average
My 2006 Silverado came with the 496ci.
What do you guys think of the Raylar kits for the 496ci, 8.1L? If you read the comments?
So 104 centre line . Does that make this cam shaft 8 deg advanced ? Also explain peak hp at 6200?
Dusty @ David Vizard built a std bore 496 cast iron cyl. Headed 10.5 to 1 cr ... made 707 hp and 696 tq
Frankie must be learning stuff from the rest of the hosts for the other shows, especially anyone who paints!
Frankie learnt from Pat, how to load his top shirt pocket up to the Max !! lol
I would love that 496 big block. But I'm not that lucky.
i pray that Pat will adopt me one day and help me with my v6 mustang ...
I have never seen you guys build a 1000 yet that is my request
gm already does
I could use that engine right now
What RPM was that Mustang making power?
I see a sneaky pete bottle behind you Pat. Throw it on quick and see what it can do, lol.
If you change the camshaft it's not the same short block I would think
NOOO..... You broke up the twins!!!!! I wanted to see the out come of timing the cranks... Damn guess the internet will forever bench race the idea.
Sure would look nice under the hood of my truck. Pbly get better mileage than the 4.3 too. lol
💯💯💯💯💯💯
I could be wrong
Wouldn't mind the engine for my k20
Will this fit on my 1978 CHEVROLET NOVA, SEDAN?????
😂 a 96ci big block huh? That's gonna be a heavy weed eater.
And I thought my 52cc badger was a big weed eater!
@@FastBowtie388it is 😂😂🤟 2 smokes all the way
It's Four hundred& 96ci "big block" American made.
Originally a GM 454ci ...different crank and rods, (that you can buy with pistons, in a 454 stroker kit)
I dunno if you 😂 were trying to be funny. If you were.... I DONT GET IT, IM SURE NOBODY ELSE BUT A GEARHEAD POSER, ...MIGHT LAUGH, (BUT THEY ARE CONFUSED TOO)...The only V engine anyone is going to find smaller than maybe 160ci (never a 'big block)
Is a V Twin
Yep, thats close to1600cc's ... that would be a string trimmer from hell! 😂
I seen that YT update too 😂😂
I'm surprised Pat even bothers with ear plugs, cause you know he's old school snd probably can't hear shit lol when i was a kid we raced a 68 camaro,468 tunnel ram, and noone even thought to give us ear protection, and you know it's loud when your eyes vibrate lol
An 8.2L engine, damn.
An engine in a paint booth 😂
😆 I Think everything is gonna be ok , BCUZ OF ... What's going on in Bama 😆 😂 !
👍
How do I get a job working for these guys?
That turquoise color has gotta go! I would have blacked it out😜
everyone has a black engine...cant see oil leaks either if its black
Thought it was gonna be a Geo motor
"flat torque curve"... Looks like a damn camel.
It varies by 40 lbs/ft over a 3,000 RPM range (3,000 to 6,000). How is that not considered flat? 🤔
Please build the new 7.3 Godzilla engine ford has. Seen a few different builds already but want to know what it makes NA. Would love to build one and run as a big block dirt modified
Why doesn't Pat tell jokes anymore? I've gotten some good ones from him
Not bad for humans!!! 😅😅
😁👍👍
Is it a stroker as that was a stock size for trucks?
stock block with a stroker kit in it
4.25 stroke and 4.31 bore so it's bored 60 over with striker crank
I sure would like to be able to win that engine!!! Unfortunately, not willing to sign over info per the privacy policy statements.
Bummer.
It's amazing how much people don't read that stuff. Or permissions on apps for their phone.
Serious question: does no one paint aluminum heads just to show them off? After dealing with aluminum corrosion on my old build, my next engine will be entirely painted- heads and all.
Dust aluminum heads with high temp clear coat. Not real heavy or it will turn yellow. Works fantastic.
Does Power Nation like Ford , Chevrolet , or ..... Blake likes Ford & Dodge !
My 'El would love this..but couldnt afford to cover the tax on it.
Says solid roller cam but shows hyd roller lifters? Por 15 engine paint is the best! Follow directions guys you screw it up and youre stuck with it. Got thier titanium, great color
Whats up with that massive torque dip at 41/4200 rpm? Thats not cool.
They are the heads that cost a fortune
I think there's a typo in the name
A 96 ci big block eh?
I thought this was going to be a special episode with a 1/5 scale v8
Frankie: "That's a flat torque curve...I like building engines with a flat torque curve 'cause they just kind of carry..."
The graph looks like the Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster.
Functionally, the curve is fine, but that sounds ridiculous. Maybe he should have gone off-script at that point.
It's a 40 lbs/ft variance over 3,000 RPM. How is that not considered flat? 🤔
I thought the same thing. I bet that's from the EFI, and it will "learn" that flatter over time.
Should Not reuse headstuds there strech.
Any links to that statement?
How come mercedes recent 2L turbo engine can make 421HP but this 8.1L chevy engine only makes 650HP? When its consuming like 4 times the amount of fuel
Take the turbo off and then ask
But 4 cams are too complicated
You give the HP, but neglected to share the RPMs…
Look at the graph
At only 9 cubes bigger , the 505 mopar they built made more hp & tq with a better power curve. It’s easy to see why the bbc wasn’t competitive against the mighty 426 Hemi.
I like these guys when they build engines, but, for the life of me I cannot figure out why they keep doing the same stuff over and over. After seeing them build LS after LS after LS...then Ford after Ford after Ford I stopped watching. I wanna see them do a 392, 345, or 304 IH motor. These are just as American as anything else but really could use the updates. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.....DO AN IH MOTOR!!!!!!
Who makes parts from those engines and where do you find a core?
@@cedricwilson2055 Cores for the 304 and 345 can be found anywhere from junk yards to Scout specialty shops. I have a 304 and 392. No one makes high performance parts outside of Camshafts, Distributors, Exhaust Headers, and EFI...But the resources and connections these guys have could open a whole new segment for the IH aftermarket.
What aftermarket companies are going to pay for this? Part of the problem
Like to see a balls out 401 AMC build
CAMON. MAN... I HAVE 630 HORSEPOWER IN MY 350.......SOME DAY YOU GUYS WILL LEARN HOW TO MAKE REAL HORSE POWER ..I EXPECTED 1000 HORSE HERE.....635 THATS FRANKLY A JOKE. OUT OF 496 CIBES....
you have a power adder on it and it it doesnt have a power adder it doesnt run on pump gas and you have to rev the piss out of it.
i guarantee you that
Pat has built more race engines then you have ever seen in your life.....he knows what hes doing
Pat knows more about engines than most could ever hope to.
You guys are leaving way too much power on the table. You're not even getting 1.2 ft lbs per cubic inch. Your cam needs a tighter lobe separation angle, around 106 for peak performance and would still be streetable.
496ci + $5 gas = broke
And still happy! My 383 got $20/20 min of fun before prices shot up a few yrs back. Worth it
Grow up son and stop taking our Creator's name in vain!
Thats pathetic! A cam that big with those heads should be closer to 700. My 400m ford with a smaller cam and heads made 629 hp and 585 ftlbs.... just saying. Oh and the lsa is way off, which explains why the torque is low
