Not only is this awesome that you're showing us all the technical nuances to put this motor together. But the chance that actually own one of your motors would be incredible.
Congratulations on winning Drag Week. It's a testament to both your knowledge and your character with supporting Tom throughout the entire event. Swapping pistons, no sleep, swapping injectors, no sleep, dealing with a self-ejecting trailer, no sleep, and of course if that wasn't enough, having to swap a throttle cable. This comes as a complete surprise and is a testament to how generous you are. We're here to get an understanding on where engines are today and the depth of knowledge you're willing to share is nothing short of both admirable and remarkable. Giving away a complete engine is unheard of and speaks volumes to the kind of man you are. Some of us follow you for entertainment while others follow to get a better understanding of how to build an engine correctly and you deliver on all counts. Lastly, thank you, God Bless, and good luck to whomever wins this engine. Cheers!
First off, who else releases multiple videos on new builds literally minutes AFTER winning undoubtedly the hardest HRDW22 you and Tom just finished!! Only you brother, only you!!!! Congratulations on the win Steve, you boy's DEFINITELY earned this one!!!! Can't wait to check out the new project, but if it's from SME, you can't go wrong!!!!
That 555 is very similar to my 557 build that I built and installed in my 1978 Chevy BIG10 pickup that I ordered new with a 454. I used a Dart block 4.500” bore with an Eagle 4.375” stroke crank, Edelbrock square port heads, Edelbrock Air gap dual plane manifold with a 850 Holley (that I bought new in 78). I also used a solid roller cam but somewhat conservative because I use the truck to pull my 26’ enclosed with my dragster. I wish I would have taken the time to dyno the motor because it is a torque monster. I still have the original T-400 transmission that I beefed up years ago and 3.73 gear that I ordered it with. I ran it a few times a the track and ran high 11’s. Its pretty heavy to me for a short bed and when I weighed it with cast iron heads it was almost 5,000 lbs with me in it and I’m about 215 lbs. funny thing is that the gas didn’t seem to change hardly any, still 9 to 10 mpg.
One of the best parts of this channel is seeing the growth of the next generation. Seeing the bond between Father and Son doing something you both love is something special.. My father has turned wrenches his entire life. Growing up that was what we did together . Sadly we drifted apart. So seeing you guys doing this is awesome. The RUclips aside Family is everything.
I will say definitely love seeing the father and son combo definitely the highlight of the video like seeing when successful businesses keep things in the family. And talk about the best prize to win on RUclips I’ve seen yet!
Such a smart man. I'd love to work for you just to learn. And I'm 46 years old.. been a car truck guy since birth. You do more cams a week than I've probably done my entire life.
Watching this, seeing how cool and technical this all is, just puts into perspective how difficult it is as well. Going to a professional like Steve with all his years of experience really seems like the best option. I can't imagine trying to do this yourself without having someone like Steve teach you every step of the way. What a wonderful trade with such exceptional skill and precision
Steve Tech coming in clutch with another detailed walk through of something that has been somewhat of a mystery to me. You explain things in a way that is easily understood and I feel like I could replicate myself. Thanks Steve 10/10
Love this format of video. No one does this anywhere that I know of. I know any car guy would love seeing these informational videos. Even if I already know what your teaching its still interesting. Keep it up man. You hit the nail on the head here
Steve, dont get hung up on those that dont understand. I have built motors for twenty years( not to your caliber) and I appreciate you showing technical insite and the dyno end of things. Thanks for everything from a to z. Your videos are awesome.
Love to see you are having fun with your Son!! He's your awesome twin!! He has highly earned to be your right hand man!! And he's there to keep the SM alive for decades to come!
Thanks for taking the time to show this, always interesting to see different interpretations to get to the same end product. Also was fun watching someone else be confused as to which way to go with the cam adjustment. Congrats on the Drag Week victory and I'm sure sleeping all night in your own bed will feel great. This would be a great engine for my 1962 Bel Air wagon, hint, hint ...🙂
That why you check and recheck things, only a mistake if it's overlooked, planning on a mild big block build for my son's square body soon, pray without ceasing
@@cargotoolshop5319 I just built a 557 for my square body 1978 BIG10 that I bought new with a 454. Dart block 4.500” bore with a 4.375” crank. Edelbrock square port RPM heads with air gap RPM intake. I tow a 26’ enclosed trailer so I used a small roller cam, .622” lift with 280* advertised duration. 10 to 1 compression, it’s a torque monster.
That's awesome Steve. Thanks for the cam degree tutorial. Most people don't get into this part of an engine build. Pretty simple procedure not as intimidating as it sounds. I'll definitely be entering the give away. Would be a nice engine for the 1967 nova I'm going to build. Great video once again!
This average guy just made an order on something I’ve always wanted anyway. Thanks for putting this giveaway together for us Steve, you’re going to make some lucky fan cry!
Fingers crossed. 4 shirts. Key chain. Hoodies. And a hat. If I win I’ll be able to put the boat back together before you get pistons for the other engine lol.
I have 2 8.2 Gen6 engines I’m tearing down from a yacht… the heads are mercury and efi the ports are HUGE, I figured I had some good base parts to make 2 amazing engines I’d like to get them to your shop for that Amazing expertise you and your workers have and to see that Centroid make this engines truly amazing!
I was not expecting this video to have this much content!! Thanks for surprising me!! Steve, I had a friend that went to his friend builder and they ASSUMED since new the specs were ok checking one rod! It blew up. 3K later fixed and that was a discount? This is a 1,300hp NOS engine. I'd be mad! No assumes on 1,000+ engines!! And now he has parts grinded down to spec below fat standard. I expect my engines blue printed at this point. Steve please explain what a blue printed engine is. It's an exact to book spec engine. :) Funny how balanced and blue printed engine was a big deal forever Explain what that means. I know what it means and is but think it would be nice to share to others what it actually is.
This is an awesome series you're doing; Plus giving away this engine! I thank you for everything. PS congratulations on winning Drag week 5 times now- Wow no small feat by any means!
Great tech video, thanks for posting! Of note, my numbers have always been off using that style of cam checker tool. It seems as though the follower doesn't precisely "follow" the lobe and my numbers are always off when verifying cam specs. I now use a solid lifter, pushrod, and a dial indictor on a magnetic fixture to measure.
I've (not built) but assembled many a motor in my days, and have never ever never degreed a camshaft in! And haven't had any problems as far as that goes. Now I have a friend who does it all the time, and everytime that I've been to his shop while he's doing said degreeing, have never actually seen him adjust a cam, basically just checking to make sure the factory ground the cam correctly. I pretty much always use comp cams and just install them for to dot and off they go! Tire burning for years to come!
Thank you Steve you've been a great inspiration to me on building motors and going fast your wagon I love it keep up the good works sir good works sir and sooner or later I'll get one of your motors thank you
First, love the channel and your willingness to share your knowledge. Not sure what the rules will be for winning but…if I won I’d put that motor in my 72 Jeep Wagoneer. It’s been in the family since new (it was my step fathers/ he bought it after getting home from Vietnam) and only has 77,000 original miles, but due to a mishap with oiling it has a seized motor. I’d put that motor in the Waggy and drive it to the drag~n~drive event in the future where I’d grudge race you wood v wood!! Pictures of said Waggy available for consideration.
Over here over here I have a 86 c10 that I just put a 350 vortec in and it was a older engine so it's not coming back around I'd love to have something like this for it

After so many years I'm finally doing my dream build. Plan on making it a drag car.
Dude, my wife would absolutely let me out of the dog house if I could stick that in her 67 Mustang that I blew up and let sit for 10 years....... 😏 Been married 31 years as of 2 days ago and I still get hounded about when I'm gonna get her car back on the road. Hey Steve,
Congratulations to you and Tom for winning Drag Week, awesome win.
I love the new freedom series you started. 🇺🇲
Yeah, more power to you Steve. I remember you were going to have a subscription format but in the end, have given the knowledge to the people. Thanks.
We are truly watching a thing of beauty being born! Can't wait to see the finished article on the dyno singing and producing lots of power! 😊👍
A chance to win a motor from My favorite engine builder wow I'm super excited
It must be so hard talking/explaining and doing all at once Steve.

Thank you

I love your channel! I might have missed it, I did not see the thrust alignment prior to torquing #5 main.
0.066" quench huh? Sure that's durable. The large displacement will be torquey enough for "anything you wanna put it in". You crack me up Steve.

I know I will get some flack for saying this, that engine would be a killer one for my old 1977 dodge w200 4x4. It's a retired army truck a m882.
This motor would be wicked mounted to Boss Hoss, What a ride that would be
Steve is a hard working smart craftsman.... but above all he is VERY honest.... I wish I could afford his engines.
