I remember sitting with my parents the night he sang that. Both of them had tears in their eyes. And I, as a teen learned for the first time. How much the word Love really meant. In fact. I learned the words, and still remember them today...sixty years later. Ed Ames was a great singer.
I can relate to this too, listening with my parents, my Dad would sing it around the house along with plenty of his other favorites! Interesting that Ed Ames died aged 95, so feeling love really helps you live longer❤
This was my parents’ song. They were married 67 years. Dad passed away in 2017 at age 93 and we lost Mom last year (2023), also at age 93. I’m in my late 60s and I will miss my folks until the day I draw my last breath. I get tears in my eyes every time I hear Ed Ames sing this beautiful song, especially the line: “In only a moment we both will be old, we won’t even notice the world turning cold, and so in this moment with sunlight above, my cup runneth over with love.” Not only does it make me think of my folks, it reminds me of how quickly the time has flown by for my husband and I, how quickly our boys grew into men. It reminds me to appreciate each day and to try not to get bogged down by the harshness of the world. To be thoughtful and kind, especially to one another. ❤️
Guess you can take solace in knowing that they both lived to 93. I did not know about the Ames brothers but I do remember my mother singing Toola Loora Lula an Irish lullaby. Made famous by the Ames brothers. God bless.
@@smilinmoo on a lighter note. I remember he was on Johnny Carson while he was on the TV show playing a Native American. He brought a Tomahawk. There was a poster of a man a few feet away & Ed was supposed to fling the Tomahawk to hit him dead in the heart. It hit the poster right between the crotch area & there it was. To which Johnny said to Ed “ I didn’t know you were a Jewish Rabbi”.
@@johnmuliyil8170 I remember that! I don’t know whether I remember it from the original airing or from a Johnny Carson special that showed a clip, but I do remember it was hilarious!
Rest in Peace Ed Ames July 9, 1927 - May 21, 2023, Thanks for the excellent body of work you left behind with your brothers, on television and on Broadway. 😢
One year ago today, the world lost an excellent talent. Ed Ames died of Alzheimers Disease at the age of 95 years old. Ed Ames July 9,1927-May 21,2023. Rest in peace. We love and miss you so very much.
This song is lovely and Ed Ames sings it magnificently. The orchestral accompaniment is what makes this performance a masterpiece. This was television when I was young. I miss it.
24 years ago today a man I adored died suddenly. I have mourned him steadily... this morning I awoke to this song in my head. Have not heard it since childhood, yet it was playing in my mind as I awoke. This was his way and this is my way to say... yeah, I feel you too. Miss you EDB.
I believe I will never have a wife and will die alone, but this song can be interpreted as a different type of love. Gods love. No matter my faults, his love makes my cup runneth over. No matter my mistakes, he is there.
Hearing this for the first time 2023 at 68 years old I had never heard of him being we never had a television until I was 12 years old and not even a radio we were 9 and my mom raised us alone and it was a hard life but she did it she passed away at 90 years old 2021 missing her every day
RIP Ed, As a kid I watched Daniel Boone & had a huge crush on Mingo. Years later I fell in love with Ed Ames Golden baritone voice. I will always regret not seeing Ed Ames perform at the McCallum theater. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Thank you for the years of entertainment you've blessed us with Mr. Ames.
He had a long life. He and his brothers were wonderful singers. I've been listening to this, as well as Try to Remember for the last couple of years on my phone while working out at the gym. I was 12 years old when this song was a hit in 1967. RIP Mr Ames. And I still watch reruns of Daniel Boone.
I love Ed Ames' interpret ion of one of my favorite Jones and Schmidt songs. His voice is smooth, easy, resonant. His sincerity is unassailable and his understanding is superb.
Being a parent is tough... tough on every aspect of what you thought was all the parts that make up you. This song and this singer invoke vivid memories of watching over the children as they slept. Despite the tough day that day their nightime rooms would fill with warmth, grace and love in abundance... "flowing over"; not from any part of me but from them and the wonderful wonder they imparted every hour of every day... awake or asleep. To this day this song fosters such blessed joy.
One of the greatest singers. Ever. I rate him almost with Bing Crosby for all-purpose singer. There's Nat, Perry, Frank, Dean, Dick Haymes, Gordon Macrae, Eddie Fisher, Vic Damone....and THEN above them, to me, there's the inimitable Ed Ames. A joy to behold!
This song was my maternal Grandma and Grandpa’s wedding song back in 1967. It was sung at my grandma’s funeral a few weeks ago by a guy who sounded a lot like Josh Groban. Cannot stop crying now or feeling sad with this song. RIP Grammy, I LOVE you so much to the moon and back!

Yes indeed. I was also marvelling at his breadth control & staying in tune.
The only other persons with that breadth control are Pavarotti & Andrea Bocelli
