He had such a beautiful voice. Rest with the angels, Ed Ames.
In memory of Ed Ames July 9,1927-May 21,2023. Rest in peace.
I did not realize he has just passed! May 21, 2023--Sunday, but announced to the public yesterday, May 26... RIP! My favortie song of his: "My Cup Runneth Over"...
His co-star on Daniel Boone, Darby Hinton, has shared some very warm and loving memories of his dear friend, Ed Ames. Very touching.
@@StevenTorrey, maybe you could Google him, then you can see when he passed away.
@@Cynthia-ht8ld OK. You are right; Ed Ames Died on Sunday May 21, 2023 but the announcement was not made public till yesterday, May 26th. My apologies.
@@StevenTorrey,don't worry about it. Your apologies are accepted.
RIP to a great Actor,Singer, and a True Gentleman.
I was nine years old when this aired. My dad would sometimes let me stay up to watch The Tonight Show with him. What a beautiful voice Ed Ames had. This brought back great memories of my dad. I miss him. 😢

That works for me.
1964 I was also 9, great memories best to you👍
@@laurapriest8257 👍👍
He's waiting patiently for you and you'll be reunited and it will be beautiful. ❤🙏
What a lovely singing voice Ed Ames had!!! I remember him from the Daniel Boone show, and always liked him! He was a great actor, also, and my condolences to his family!!!❤
RIP Ed-- Thank you for all the wonderful songs, acting roles, and memories-- God Bless you and your Family -- GMac
What a gem! Shine on Ed!

That was beautiful I can remember my Dad singing that song.
My Dad did too. R I P Ed ! !
I remember the tomahawk throw he did
on Johnny Carson, it was hilarious 😂 I
laughed so much, even more when Johnny
Carson, said I didn't know you were Jewish.
The audience laughed for about 5, 10 minutes. Indeed a night to remember.
B"H Thanks Mary. I remember him as a kid singing and acting (often as a Native American!) Now some 65years later i saw this & it was so obvious to me that he is Russian or Ukrainian,(looks like my Grandad born there).I figured he is Jewish too.(Said Kaddish for his soul)

Talk about a "drop the mic" moment. Vocal perfection from an under appreciated singer. Rest well, Mr. Ames.
A great singer what a beautiful voice ❤️❤️
Quite wonderful, from the Fantasticks and a day when talent was truly valued.
What an ovation he got.
I remember this! I kind of had a crush on him. His voice was so mesmerizing.
For whatever reason, Ed and Bing Crosby's (both) voices, resonate with me in their richness, timbre, simplicity of delivery, and just is so soothing, professional.
I loved Bing, and I loved Ed's singing so much! Thank you for uploading!
Now we need his great tomahawk throw!
I was just a kid when Ed Ames left his brothers to go solo as a singer/actor. He was great at both. As a singer, he had a couple hits that I remember: “My Cup Runneth Over” and “Who Will Answer.” And yes, I enjoyed the Daniel Boone tv series. The show’s directors were quite creative in how they wove Ames’ Mingo character into the story lines.
As a vocalist and voice teacher, I had just introduced the music of Ed Ames to one of my students weeks ago. Now, it’s sad to know he’s no longer physically with us.
Rest In Power Ed Ames 🎶
His brothers really struggled when he left, ironically Joe didn't pursue a career in opera to stay with his brothers, years before Ed abandoned them.
Amazing amazing singer you are gonna be so missed by everyone R.I.P
He was a favorite of mine.Marvelous talent! Lived his “ Who Will Answer” song; I had the album. May Ed’s memory be a blessing. 🕯️🌹♥️
The prettiest song ever written. ❤
One of my favorite songs ever and sung by a true gentleman.. Ed Ames
Rest in peace Ed. Nice to see Ruta Lee and Phyllis Diller on the coach too.
Rhanks for mentioning Ruta Lee. I was trying to figure out who that was.
Rip. I see u were born 1 month before my mom...looking to the day I see my mom.and dad in the resurrection
🙏🧸🎭🧸
While under (Far) less than ideal circumstances, it is VERY Classy and Respectful Johnny Carson channel Your Uploading of Memories after 🎭 pass.. 🙏👏👏👏
I was a craps dealer for the summer at Harrah's Reno .. college kid .. Ed sang in one of the rooms and came in from the entry of the hall, voice booming !!
That Reno, that Harrah's, that summer, gone ..
So beautifully pure. I love Ed Ames.
Ed Ames, a great singer. An American Icon.
I love the dimples in Ed Ames ' cheeks when he smiles.
Beautiful song. Beautiful voice. RIP Ed.
When I was a kid I got to see The Fantastics at the Sullivan St. playhouse in NYC.
What a lovely theme, a great song that my mother loved. The message of the play and the song was one of love and a feeling of coming home. As a child I was moved by the play’s ending when the theme returned, to come full circle. I am not ashamed to say this song moves me still today.
It would be beautiful even without the piano; he's singing with choirs of angels now.🕊 (Ms. Diller was a client in the 90's; living in Brentwood.)🙏
One of the nicest voices who ever sang a song.
Loved the Ames Brothers group, too!🎶💞🎶
Another jewel gone from this world...but onto other adventures.
He had such a long life, I remember him when I was a kid 55 years ago on DB.
Genuine Great Performance and Maestro
Incredible voice and an incredible showmen

Ed Ames, Eddie Ames
9 July 1927 - 21 May 2023
Born in Malden, Massachusetts
Father David Urick - Mother Sarah (Zaslavskaya) Jewish Parents who immigrated from Ukraine.
Ed was the youngest of nine children, five boys and four girls.
So referencing the tomahawk incident, he *was* Jewish!
RIP old friend.
RIP...great singer and actor.
Beautiful. Another loss. You can only hope that entertainers and actors that don't reach the strastophere know what an impact they made.
He had a deep voice
He was great
My favorite version.
A marvellous voice. Ames was the last of his breed, last of an era. Thankfully, we have video and audio recordings.
I have had his greatest-hit album for a long time, and this song along with My Cup Runneth Over are my favorite. I also enjoy Harry Belafonte's version of Try to Remember. Rest in peace both of them.
I remember Ed singing with his brothers, The Ames Brothers doing RAGGMOPP!
He is my favorite Jewish male singer total class !!
He is my favorite singer, total class!!
Quick reactions:
Harry B just exuded so much class.
Stevie is awesome -- and could laugh at himself (and the great Ray Charles)
Bruce looked thrilled to be a part of all of this, as did almost all of them
With all those great singers and stars, Al Jarreau still stood out...at least here.
Dylan is a strange cat, but even he smiled a little.
Such a talented and handsome man.
I love it when Carson says: "He's gonna do a number for us..." Willie Nelson would say: Afterwards we can sing another song.
Rest in eternal peace ❤🙏🙏
Mingo!!!
Yes!! 😁 I just loved his character in Daniel Boone..❤
@@cbass2755me too 😊
What? I had no idea that he was a singer!
But . . it''s May!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Kinda reminds me of when I first heard Jim Neighbors sang, only knew him from Andy Griffin and Gomer Pile USMC. Only knew Ed Aims from Daniel Boone. He is one of my favorite artists.
rest in peace
Song was used to great effect in the 1976 science fiction movie, _The Man Who Fell To Earth_ with David Bowie.
Rest in peace, David and Ed.
I grew up with my mother blaring his records on her stereo. We lived way out in the country,so no neighbors to bother. We lost all his records in the floods of '96. I sure wish I had them all.
Btw - Skitch Henderson at the piano and the leader of the Tonight Show band with Steve Allen and Johnny Carson up until 1966.
July 9 1927 - May 2923
My parents had a plaayer piano with this song roll. . . Theyve been gone Mom for 50 years she was born in 1927 and Dad for 8 year his birthday was July 9. . . Memories and musuc.
Where do all of these short Carson kinescopes come from? There was a company on the east and west coasts that would film your appearance on TV for a fee, often just you and your appearance.
Are these them?
Kinescopes from the videotape era tended to be used for: 1) distribution to Armed Forces Radio & TV, 2) distribution to Canada, 3) for a legal record of the broadcast day or to prove ads ran as scheduled.
I was listening the the "Carson Podcast" with host Mark Malkoff and Ed Ames was the guest.
Ed said that Johnny had him on every night for a week to sing "Try To Remember".
Does anyone remember than?
My favorite Jewish baritone !!
He must of just passed away to be posted on here.
Yesterday
He died on May 21,2023. He was 95.
@Cynthia-ht8ld thanks just saw that a lot of the old greats are passing away now
RIP
I must have been in Alaska when Ames song this song on JC's
That looks like Ruta Lee (still alive) and of course Phyliss Diller on the couch with Ed!
❤🙋♀️
Another amazing find. Johnny said everything before he started having all his Tonight Shows preserved in 1972 were lost or erased or destroyed (which he was unaware of til it was too late). Yet clips and segments even entire shows from the 60s keep appearing on RUclips from time to time. No doubt there's much much more out and about hidden in vaults of all kinds in particular the NBC network. If only Johnny had known he would have seized everything he could find and stored them with the rest of his own tapes.
Never heard of the guy, but he hailed from my hometown of Malden, Mass, as did that other great American actor, Mike Road! Who can forget Road’s turns as conman Pearly Gates and outlaw Buckskin Charlie King in several classic “Maverick” episodes, as well as his seminal voice work as the original ‘60s cartoon, “Space Ghost.”
I never heard of Mike Road. You mean that you're from Malden, MA and you never heard of Ed Ames or the Ames Brothers? Ed and his brothers were born in Malden.
@@Cynthia-ht8ld Yep, born and raised. Lived there for 24 years before going into the military in ‘86 and never heard of either of them! I only discovered that they were from Malden after looking them up online a couple of years ago!
So.. ...Carson, Ames, and Phyllis Diller.. ... Who's the Lady/Madam to our (the viewers) immediate right of Diller ,?..
I believe she is Ruta Lee, the actress.
@@fadoodle
Thank You
I couldn’t figure out who she was either. She was only 5 years older than John Lennon, but very old fashioned. She was probably about 30 here.
@@fadoodle
If Interested am THRILLED to Report that Ruta Lee is still with us today at Eighty-Eight Years Young. 😊😊😊☺️😊🧸
I googled Ruta Lee. She's still with us at 87.
The lady sitting next to Phyllis Diller is Ruta Lee
Originally in color.
Freezing my A off on some rustty bucket.
I never heard of Mike Road. He may have been from Malde n,Massachusetts but so was Ed Ames. As far as I'm concerned the only famous one from Malden was Ed Ames because like I said I never, ever heard of Mike Road.
Thought it was Joan Rivers not Ruta Lee.
I was enraptured throughout the song.
0:45 ?????
Love Ed Ames but this has got to be one of the corniest songs I can remember, 😆
It's from The Fantasticks, which is a really good show.
I was wondering about the song as well... Insipid came to mind, but with the line: "without a hurt the heart is hollow"--redemption.
Beautiful song...❤
Just what songs do you listen to? Ed Ames sang his songs with his heart and soul.
