I bought 900 grams of 4 weight cotten blend yarn to make this lovely shirt for my bf. Hey, firstly thanku so much for this gorgeous pattern.tha ks fr ur time n effort..i started making this and have a doubt. Hi, I use small yarn, which means the height of 1 row is short. Other people may use bigger yarn size, so the row height would be higher. Hence I need to make 32 rows to reach 19cm, and you need only 26 rows for example.
If you want to increase the sleeve width only, you may need to work 2 edges separately, then move on to other 2 edges, since they are not continuous as you said. It is a disadvantage of this method.
Hello! Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Measurement B is from the underarm up to the desired length of the shirt. I measured 37 cm and chained that length. I am on row 22 of the shirt and measured this length again. It is now 44 cm. I don't understand why the length is now longer than the length I started with. Please help😢. Thank you!!
Hi, you should check whether you increased stitches at the pentagon correctly (3DC, Ch1, 3DC same space), especially near the joint that pentagon connects with the length of shirt. Another case, when you Ch3 and turn for next row at the bottom of the shirt, you made something wrong.
Thank you so much for your reply. I decided to start on the second piece to see if I came upon the same problem. It happened again. When I saw your response, I frogged the project up to the second row. I checked and saw that I did the corners of the pentagon as in the video, 3dc, 1 ch, 3dc in the same stitch. I did this for 4 times. At the end of the row, I counted the clusters on the chain, there are 27 clusters which make my initial chain of 81. (27×3=81). So I know there are no increases there. Took a picture and hope I can send it to you. Can I find you on Instagram? Maybe an email?
Hi, if you are doing every step correctly, one think I can think about is the stretching of your yarn. Since my yarn is less stretching so my finished product doesn't stretch too much and just 3-4cm different in length compared to the foundation chain. My suggestion is that trying to make a sample of one panel with only 5-6 clusters to same your time, then check how stretching your yarn is, then decide the number of foundation chain.
hi first of all thank you so much for the amazing tutorial, it is so helpful i want to make this for my boyfriend’s birthday! but i noticed that you mentioned gauge a lot in the replies section, i am a beginner and have searched what gauge really is, may i know the gauge reference for this shirt pattern? thank you so so much in advance ❤
2. As a beginner, you should make a gauge first for sure, in order not to redo your work again and again. After measuring the gauge, you should sketch out the shirt to make sure all the stripes look even. For example, my red stripe is 3cm while yellow one is 5cm.
3. Also, when comes to granny stripes pattern, when you make the foundation chain at 3:44, remember to make it loosely, in order not to make the shirt curve out (wavy) when you keep adding rows. If you can't control your tension, change to a bigger hook size. For example change to 2.5 or 2.75mm if you use 2.2 hook same as me.
4. When make foundation chains at 3:44, you may not need to chain equaling to the length you want, you can make it shorter a bit. Because some yarn may stretch 3-5cm when finished. So you should check how stretching of your yarn too, and can check it by the gauge you made at the beginning.
hi. what did you do with all the long ends? sorry if i missed that part. i love this tutorial. thank you so much. i am a beginner at crochet but am making this for my son for xmas.
I have a question! Im following the tutorial but the shirt ended up being wayyy longer than intended due to stretching of the yarn. Is there a way of shortening the shirt witout starting over? I have both panels finished so i would love to avoid redoing everything...But I'm a little worried shortening won't be possible due to the way its crocheted from the armpit outwards instead of bottom->up. Thank you for the video❤️
Hi @ @catschamomile298 I think you should redo it. This time you should make the foundation chain loosely. If you can't control your hand tension, you should use bigger hook size for foundation chain only, then change to your normal hook size. Also the foundation chain should be shorter 3-4cm than your desired length for the shirt based on your yarn stretching.
Hi, As I mentioned at 0:26, that is the amount of yarn I used to make the shirt. If you use same type of yarn as mine, the written yarn amount is enough. If you use different yarn and hook size, the yarn amount will be different.
Hi, I bought this yarn from a local store so I really have no idea what kind of brand it is. I just know it’s Italian silk yarn. This yarn is about 0.8mm for 1 strand of yarn, and suitable for making summer clothes.
Yes that's what I did for collar at the back. However, at the joint between 2 panels, I made 1DC to the DC from cluster instead of 2DC, to make it tighter since the joint looks a bit loosely. There are no rule for this, just to make sure the collar doesn't look too tight or too loose!
Oof I used bigger yarn and a bigger hook so I did 6 rows of whit end three of red, instead of 8 and 4 like you did. And now it is going to be slightly uneven in the back 😭😭😭
Hi, it's better for you to make a gauge swatch to see how many stitches you have on every row and column, since you used different hook and yarn size. For next tutorials I will address about this issues. Thanks for your questions, and hope you can fix your problem 😊
hi Im making the shirt rn, the sleeves part r fit, but not the bust part . if I want to make it bigger on bust part, which part should I increase ? back panel ? or ?
If you are ok with the sleeves length, and can still make the sleeve wider, then you can ignore the sleeve edge, and keep adding rows on remaining 5 edges until reach desired length for the bust.
If you are ok with both length and width of the sleeve, then it will be quite similar to the part at 34:24, but with more rows on the back and front panels as well.
@@CrochetWithHannah oh so if I'm ok with both the length and width of the sleeves, I just need to do it like the part at 34:24 . do I need to do it separately or just keep going back and forth (front and back panel) until I reach the bust measurtment ?
Hi, measurement C is 1/4 of your bust size (measurement A), which means measurement C equals to the length of 1 panel when it's folded (you can watch at 26:47)
I have a question if I follow measurement c as 1/4 of the bus but the bus is 42in that means I have to make it 10.5 in but when I do that the sleeves look extra long is there any way to avoid making the sleeves so long?
@@aliciasierra1061 just crochet normally until you have desired length for the sleeves. The hexagon has 6 sides, so just skip the sleeve edge, then Ch2, turn and start new rows until you reach 10.5inch in width. Hope my explanation is clear 🙏😃
Hi! You can by making foundation chains at the length you want (remember the yarn may be stretching a bit longer). Then crochet normally until you reach the desired length for the sleeve. After that you need to crochet separately front and back panel as what I did at 34:28
Sure you can 😀 make sure to use suitable crochet hook. Also, you should make a gauge swatch to estimate how many rows to make for 1 panel. I noted how to measure each panel in the tutorial 😉
Yes you can use bigger hook. In my opinion, you should try your yarn with different hook size and make a gauge swatch (with few stitches and rows, don't need to make the whole panel), to see the pattern you like.
@@mariceleriksson2623 I used tencel silk thread I mentioned at 0:40. Since the weather at my place is quite hot around the year, I rarely use cotton yarn to crochet
Hi, when you finished row 28 at 26:23, you can attach new yarn, and crochet the sleeve only, which is only 1 side right at the sleeve of the pentagon. Hope this helps 🥰
Hi, please check 1:00 to adjust the bust size (measurement A & C). Easiest way is to measure on a tshirt you have. For this shirt, the foundation chains are for the length from the armpit to the bottom only.
hi, is it okay/normal for the original length (measurement b) to get longer as you add rows? edit: just saw another comment, could just be the stretching of yarn. thanks for the tutorial!
Yes, it's normal because your yarn will be stretching as you add more rows. The yarn I used will be stretch 3-5cm, so for example, if I want the length from underarm to the bottom about 45cm, I will made the chains (4:25) equal to 40cm.
Hi i’m not sure which term you are using. If it’s 5ply yarn weight AU, the recommended crochet hook will be 2-3.5mm. You should look at the label, it will show the hook size as well as the gauge swatch.
Also, you should make a gauge swatch to see the width of row, then you can decide how many rows for color 1 and color 2, so the shirt pattern will look even and nice. Then you can follow the measurement guide on the video
Hi hanna.. Could u please help me.. I made a hexagon shirt.. But when i try it in.. There is a loose bunching in the armhole area. I used acrylic yarn. 🙂How can i fix this please help me
Hi, did you tighten the magic ring at the armhole? If you already did, you should check whether you made any excess stitches near magic ring at row 1-2 ☺️
@@CrochetWithHannah everything was followed according to your instructions.. 🙂I dont understand what happened.. I think the problem is with the hook.. I used size 3 hook for this 100% acrylic yarn..although its allowed, i used it to reduce the size of the holes between the clusters 😭 anyway thank you for your kind reply
Hi, make a gauge swatch to see how wide is 1 row (you should search youtube for making a gauge). Then take any shirt you want, measure the shirt width. You will know how many rows you will need and decide rows for each color. Hope this helps!
Sorry I don’t know the brand since I bought it from a local store. The seller said it’s silk, made from Italy. The weather here is quite hot so I mostly use these kinds of material for my projects.
how do you have 19 cm and then add 4 rows and then still have 19 cm??? also until where does it have tot be measurement c? because you also add extra rows to the back, are those INCLUDED in measurement c or are they extra?
Hi, at 26:22, I got 19cm for the length of sleeve, and 17cm for the panel width as the video shown. Sorry for the confusion of subtitle. After added 4 more rows, I got 19cm for the panel width and also reach my measurement C. The extra rows at the back are not included into the measurement C. You need to have those extra rows since you need space between 2 front piece to form the v-neck line. Hope this helps 🙏
Hi dear, the basic difference you can see is at the beginning and the end of row 3, there is 1 DC stitch to the Ch3, while at the beginning and the end of row 4, there is a cluster of 3DC.
Hi, since I bought this yarn from a local store, they spin the original yarn into each 250g skein, so it's hard for me to estimate the length. But I noted at 0:26 the yarn I used and the estimated weight. You can take that for reference. Hope this helps 🙏
@@CrochetWithHannahhi hannah thanks for the free tutorial! I want to make this for my fiance too and hopefully there will be a pattern! Really live the Tee you made here! ❤❤
Hi dear, I got the outfit inspiration on Pinterest ☺️ you can go there and search Crochet striped cardigan, there will be lots of outfit ideas for both women and men 🥰
If it’s wavy in length, so maybe the foundation chains you made is quite tight, then when you keep adding rows, it wouldn’t be straight. You should made foundation chains again, with looser tension.
@kemakatersalendzemo7557 I use CJAYG method in this video for the sleeves (ruclips.net/video/kKsb_1YTV4I/видео.html). If it's too hard for you, just crochet the panel normally until you finished desired number of rows, then use slip stitch or SC to join the sleeve.

Hi, take the measurement of the underarm part to the bottom of the shirt, then chain a multiple of 3 + 3 turning chains. , which is equivalent to that measurement (I mentioned at 3:43)
You just need to follow row 1 (1:05), keep adding rows until you reach the width of measurement C, and also attaching sides to form the sleeve as I shown at 27:30.
At 26:39, the width of shirt is 17cm each, which has not reached my desired width for the shirt (which is measurement C). SoI have to add 4 more rows to reach 19cm.
A tip to have an idea about the measurements. Use a shirt you wear as reference to keep track of the size you want it to be.

@@mariceleriksson2623 I used tencel silk thread I mentioned at 0:40. Since the weather at my place is quite hot around the year, I rarely use cotton yarn to crochet
Great Tutorial, thank you very much
Hope you enjoy the tutorial ☺️
It's soo pretty ❤❤❤
Thank you ☺️
Hi thank you for the tutorial but i have just one question..is there any way to make the sleeves longer than the one in the video 🙂
Hi, when you finished row 28 at 26:23, you can attach new yarn, and crochet the sleeve only, which is only 1 side right at the sleeve of the pentagon. Hope this helps 🥰
@@CrochetWithHannahthank you 😊
I want to make for bust size 52 so how many chains shall I make ?😊
Hi, please check 1:00 to adjust the bust size (measurement A & C).
Make sure to make a gauge swatch to see how stretching your yarn is.
@@CrochetWithHannahi will take note of that. thank you so much! :D
how many days did u finish this peice??
Hi, I made this whenever I have time, so I didn’t count the time. I think total time is around 48-50 hours 😃
And it’d really be so helpful if there’s a voiceover.
Yes, I agree!! Constantly looking at the screen is so laborious!!!
My god!this is free content. The best you can do is be appreciative!
Make a channel and do it yourself! Just advice not being mean 😅
I agree, I immediately find another tutorial to watch is there’s no speaking lol
Be thankful for a free tutorial 🙄
I want to do this but with a 5ply 50g yarn. What hook is suitable please?
Hi i’m not sure which term you are using. If it’s 5ply yarn weight AU, the recommended crochet hook will be 2-3.5mm. You should look at the label, it will show the hook size as well as the gauge swatch.
Also, you should make a gauge swatch to see the width of row, then you can decide how many rows for color 1 and color 2, so the shirt pattern will look even and nice. Then you can follow the measurement guide on the video
Thank you.
Hope this helps ☺️
Also if you used recommended hook for your yarn type, I think it shouldn’t be problem of the yarn.
@@CrochetWithHannah everything was followed according to your instructions.. 🙂I dont understand what happened.. I think the problem is with the hook.. I used size 3 hook for this 100% acrylic yarn..although its allowed, i used it to reduce the size of the holes between the clusters 😭 anyway thank you for your kind reply
can i use monaco 3ply for this?
Yes, make sure to use proper crochet hook size with your yarn, you should also to make a gauge swatch before starting your project 😉
Can i do this with size 4 yarn so like thicker yarn?
I’m afraid that the shirt would be very heavy. There is 1 comment mentioned about that already so you can look for that in the comments.
I suggest to use light weight yarn 😉
Hi can I use milk cotton instead?
Sure you can ☺️ make sure to use suitable hook size with that yarn.
I can't figure out how to may rows i will make before changing colors. Please help me
Hi, make a gauge swatch to see how wide is 1 row (you should search youtube for making a gauge). Then take any shirt you want, measure the shirt width. You will know how many rows you will need and decide rows for each color. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for responding!
what is final weight of the garment and size? I want to make one for my son-in-law
Hi, it's about 480grams, and 48 x 64cm (width x length).
I usually wear S size, but I made this shirt it a bit oversize, so I think it would be between S and M.
Very nice
Thank you so so much ❤❤❤
Feel free to suggest what you want me to do next 😉
What brand of yarn did you use and where did you get it
Sorry I don’t know the brand since I bought it from a local store. The seller said it’s silk, made from Italy. The weather here is quite hot so I mostly use these kinds of material for my projects.
Remember to make a gauge swatch to decide how many rows you should make, and how stretching your yarn is. Hope this helps ☺️
how do you have 19 cm and then add 4 rows and then still have 19 cm??? also until where does it have tot be measurement c? because you also add extra rows to the back, are those INCLUDED in measurement c or are they extra?
Hi, at 26:22, I got 19cm for the length of sleeve, and 17cm for the panel width as the video shown. Sorry for the confusion of subtitle.
After added 4 more rows, I got 19cm for the panel width and also reach my measurement C.
The extra rows at the back are not included into the measurement C. You need to have those extra rows since you need space between 2 front piece to form the v-neck line.
Hope this helps 🙏
@@CrochetWithHannahahah! thank you soo much i understand it now!❤️
Can someone explain how row 3 and row 4 are different on the first panel?
Hi dear, the basic difference you can see is at the beginning and the end of row 3, there is 1 DC stitch to the Ch3, while at the beginning and the end of row 4, there is a cluster of 3DC.
@@CrochetWithHannah thank you
How much is the total yarn you used for this project? Approximate length please?
Hi, since I bought this yarn from a local store, they spin the original yarn into each 250g skein, so it's hard for me to estimate the length. But I noted at 0:26 the yarn I used and the estimated weight. You can take that for reference. Hope this helps 🙏
@@CrochetWithHannah thank you so much❤

What are the measurements of this shirt? I'll be making this for someone so i need a lil help

Which size r you making do let me know which bust size

What does measurement c mean how do I get that measurement ?
@@aliciasierra1061 take your bust measurement, then divide it by 4, you get the C measurement.

can women wear these type of shirts? how do you style them
Hi dear, I got the outfit inspiration on Pinterest ☺️ you can go there and search Crochet striped cardigan, there will be lots of outfit ideas for both women and men 🥰
@@CrochetWithHannah thank you so much💗
Thank You!
Please my own is wavy😭....... should I just continue like that
If it’s wavy in length, so maybe the foundation chains you made is quite tight, then when you keep adding rows, it wouldn’t be straight. You should made foundation chains again, with looser tension.
If not you can change to bigger hook size (Just only for making foundation). Then when you countinue crocheting next rows, go back to normal hook.
We should make foundation loosely when it comes to granny stripes pattern.
@@CrochetWithHannah Thank you so much.......
hi! what does the measurement c mean?
Measurement A divided by 4
What size is this if I could ask? 🥰
Hi It’s S size 😉
@@CrochetWithHannah thank you for the reply❤️
What is the size of this shirt? I really want to make this for my brother and he is size M :)
Hi it’s S size. This tutorial is for all sizes. I mentioned at 1:00 how to take measurement to make this shirt. Please watch it 😊
Got lost where you joint the sleeves 😢
@kemakatersalendzemo7557 I use CJAYG method in this video for the sleeves (ruclips.net/video/kKsb_1YTV4I/видео.html). If it's too hard for you, just crochet the panel normally until you finished desired number of rows, then use slip stitch or SC to join the sleeve.
IS THERE ANY TIP ON HOW TO LESSEN THE LENGTH OF THE SLEEVES BUT WIDER THE LENGTH OF THE SHIRT??
Hi, you should skip the sleeve edge, and keep crocheting on 5 remaining edges
Arent there only 4 remaining edges..since its pentagon@@CrochetWithHannah
@@vinita_pansari Hi, it’s actually hexegon with 1 long foundation chain. But yes, it’s only 4 edges left when skipping the sleeve edge. Thanks for correcting me 🥰
How long did it take you to finish it?
I did this shirt whenever I had time. I think it's about 45 hours. If you use bigger yarn and hook size, it maybe around 35-40 hours I believe.
@@CrochetWithHannahhi😊so basically you took 2 days to do this?
You are really fast, i think i would take 2weeks even if i had many time due to the yarn and hook size

Hi, take the measurement of the underarm part to the bottom of the shirt, then chain a multiple of 3 + 3 turning chains. , which is equivalent to that measurement (I mentioned at 3:43)
Bonjour joli tuto j aime beaucoup auriez vous un même modèle ou approchant dans un autre point merci
Nice, but it would have been better if you had said from the beginning what the plan was, what you had in mind to do, etc etc etc
Is there a written pattern?
Hi, I’m still planning to start writing pattern ☺️
❤❤❤
I don’t really understand the C measurement, could you please help me🙏🏽
Hi, this shirt consists of 2 panels: left and right panels. Take your bust measurement (A) and divided by 4, we will get measurement C.
You just need to follow row 1 (1:05), keep adding rows until you reach the width of measurement C, and also attaching sides to form the sleeve as I shown at 27:30.
What is an a4 measurement
Hi! If you are asking about measurement C, it's your bust size divided by 4, which will equal to one left/right front panel.
I got so lost at 26:39 can someone explain me what to do
At 26:39, the width of shirt is 17cm each, which has not reached my desired width for the shirt (which is measurement C). SoI have to add 4 more rows to reach 19cm.
what does measurement C mean??
It’s 1/4 of your bust size.
