Derek, I’m sitting here in the hospital with my little girl and my wife after a long difficult week of you name it sicknesses. Your video brought the first smile to her face all day! Thank you for all your hard work and the time you spend away from your boys to bring us joy every week.
I hit the little "thumbs up" button but thats because i hear what you are saying. Two years ago when I was caring for my terminally ill dad. Derek made me laugh and smile in a way that I still cannot describe to this day. I wish I had discovered his channel before he passed. Something about these video helped me through a very very rough time. Sam I wish you, your girl and your wife the best. Isn't it weird? Good people do still exist (Derek I mean)

Haven't seen any of the TV eps since no way to or about to trying to schedule work tasks around seeing a TV show. But from what I've seen just of the odd trailer...these solo versions are more interesting. No commercial interruptions (YT ads notwithstanding) or network time slot crunches... @@marcusaurelius2770
Watching this in the UK, I would actually be willing to pay money, and use the rest of my holiday leave, to join this guy on a vehicle recovery like this. I've found anyone that is as chill and calm as this guy while doing their job is like that because they're good enough at their job that it's just easy and enjoyable for them. I reckon you could learn alot from this guy in a week.
This guy is actual legit cool. Hard to find nowadays. I find it interesting that he doesn't go around trying to flex on people and get attention. He saw an engine fire, ran over, put it out and left the fire extinguisher, never mentioning it again. I'll continue watching for sure. Good content.
He has found a way to follow his passion and entertain others all while making a living. Hatred runs deep, even if you don't realize it. Just be happy for him.
My son was playing hot wheels with me earlier today (he’s 3) and tells me: “dad can you tow me, one of my sparkalators fell out”. He loves watching your videos with me and we both appreciate your content Derek!
My late father lost his pilot’s license due to Multiple Sclerosis. He spent his airplane money restoring a 25th anniversary Stingray. It was his pride and joy for two decades. Looked like the day it rolled off the showroom floor when he finished it. Countless car shows where he’d sit under a shade tree, sip ice tea and swap stories with other enthusiasts. I’m laughing because I think he fought every issue you fought on this one! 😂 Thanks for the great video and memories Derek 😎
Derek, I’ve lived in Ghana, West Africa for the last 15 years working with widows and orphans. No TV or much of anything for entertainment except a few car channels on RUclips. Watching you troubleshoot and repair the cars on your channel and your positive can-do attitude is very entertaining and informative. Often here in Ghana bubblegum and wire is how we make do until we find the parts so your channel has helped me one, to keep things running and two, keep my sanity through laughing my way through your episodes. Thanks.
Whenever I see a 2 hour revival, I know it's going to peg the struggle meter. Derek, your ability to hang with it is impressive. The look on your face when you left that last gas stop said it all. To top it off, you when lent a hand when someone, somehow was having worse car problems than yours. Truly a generous man. Thank you!
Derek, C3 headlight door mechanisms are designed to go over center and lock in the upright position even without the vacuum motor working. You can push them up all the way from underneath the front until the linkage locks over center of the pivot. If the mechanism doesn't lock in the upright position, you can make a simple mechanical adjustment on the linkage to get it to lock and stay in the upright position. They were designed this way on purpose in case the vacuum motor failed and you had to manually push up the headlight doors from underneath by hand.
@@ViceGripGarage Derek, If the headlight motors fought you when the engine was running and the headlight switch was on, then you have a bad headlight switch. The easy fix for this is to disconnect the small vacuum line running from the headlight switch to the headlight motor vacuum valve in the front of the car in front of the radiator. When you disconnect the hose, the headlights should pop up with the engine running if the headlight motors work. If they don't, you will be able to push them up from below.
I will give Derek all the credit that this far in, as well known as he is; he'd still rather not bother anyone and just get the rig runnin' where it's at. Dude could make one social media post in any state and have a lift in an hour.
Just wanted to say thank you sir for staying true to yourself no matter how many fellers and fellets tune in. The way you are with your family speaks volume to how great of a man/father/husband/goin ta town rig specialist you are. Keep up the great work and try to remember you don’t have to do anything that you don’t enjoy. Thank you Derek!!😊

I always find time to watch VGG. Watch him has helped me out on some of the vehicles i have worked on since i started watching. His show is very awesome. And I love the fact that the family helps out as well. This is a TRUE AMERICAN MAN AND FAMILY. I even watch LGG
Derek is one of the only youtubers that gets millions of subscribers and keeps their content original to how the channel started. Kudos to VGG. Once a fan forever a fan. This channel helped my get my 1966 mustang going strong again a family heirloom. There we go spelling error fixed🤣

On behalf of those Spanish speaking folks who's car caught fire across the street..., Muchas Gracias for keeping their car from becoming a raging inferno! I had a similar incident many years ago, and their pick up truck was packed with all of their possessions. It always feels good to help someone out, that REALLY needs a hand and a blessing.
I usually don't go for Corvettes, but... I LOVE this car. Honestly that paint job makes it, and those side pipes. It looks like a real life Hot Wheels car. My 3 year old is also completely enamoured with it!
What an awesome episode, love the revival series. As a FL resident, could definitely relate. Derek, your patience, perseverance, and positive attitude are inspirational man. I truly don't know how you do it, you must be exhausted. I truly appreciate all you do and love your channel. Keep it up brother and God Bless America!
Hey Tim, you have mentioned every single thing I had in mind. Derek, you are truly a great mechanic that have patience like I have never seen on anybody. I wish people can learn from you how to never give up. To be honest with you at first I had to learn to listen to your jokes but later I realized what you were really funny and real. Loved your video it was my first one, but I will be watching you from now on. Thanks
@@Tractorsandnonsense All joking aside, if Derek had a rescue video come out titled "Can I get this old 1992 gyrocopter running and fly it from one end of my yard to the other?" easy multi million views.
As a kid in the 70's, not only did we drink from our hose, but the neighbors were also absolutely ok with drinking from their hoses as well. We were never dehydrated and we played from sun up until sun down.
One time I remember very well we we're across town and we needed a drink and we just walked up to a random faucet and started to drink when the old woman that lived in the house came outside and we expected her to yell at us to get outta her yard . She offered us paper cups with ice because it was hot . We thanked her and had nice ice cold water. Things were so much different back then.
I'm not sure why this came up in my video feed, but I'm so happy it did. Dude is hilarious and he knows his stuff. Incredibly wholesome. Just a good time.
Derek I think if the frame is solid and not too rusty, it is a good candidate for saving. There is almost nothing that you can't get as far as parts for Vettes. Most every part that car would need is available after market.
Watching you deal with these legends of the past makes my day, turn wrenches for 48 years, my body has retired me with cancer but still love seeing them revived an learn alot by watching you.. keep up the good work an God bless you an yours.
I really enjoy VGG and Derek. I got my first Vette in 1986,it was a black 1980 with red leather,4-speed and a L-48. I begged my wife 'It needs a new motor, it's slow',she said 'Aren't Corvettes fast?' Me; 'Not this one'
Two hours of VGG and a Vette?! Oh heck yes!!!!!! Probably going to have to break this up (got more work to do) but going to relax some now with this. Thank you for all you do for us ~ Chuck.
The only Vette I ever owned was back in the 80's. I bought it, drove it an hour and a half home and immediate sold it to a neighbor. So this show is longer than my experience as an owner.
Derek. Please don't ever change the format of these videos. As someone said before, the only videos over an hour I don't skip forward. Thank you for the videos. Keep them coming. What would a guy do without them 😆.
Derek you never cease to amaze me , what a battle to keep this one going, you're certainly the victor , it's worrying just as a viewer hearing just how dangerous it was , glad you got home safely to the family, you're the champion and we the fans love you and your family 🏆😎
I have lived in many places throughout my life, never have I seen more cars on fire on the side of the road than my 7 years spent in Florida… Great channel, great videos!
I am Floridian! I like your content! Storms are normal for us!! Keep up the good work on your channel!! I don't watch television because of guys like you!! Keep keeping it real! 100 %
Derek just gave a two hour lesson on getting victory over adversity. He showed how not panicking and continuing to think can get you out of a problem you've never experienced.
Derek...Thank You for being so funny, good spirited, and willing to teach us non-mechanics so much about how cars work (or not). Keep up the great work and take care of that wonderful family!
Yes, I'm 61 years young, drank out of plenty of hoses. We were lucky enough to have the best public water in Pennsylvania. Beaver Run Reservoir. We also were exposed to more radiation than most in my hometown of Apollo, P A. A lot of people died of cancer. I am too stubborn to get it. Irish heritage! Eddie
New to the channel and I'm pissed off I haven't found this gem sooner! This guy is awesome from his own sort of language he speaks from his overall love for cars. Definitely one of my favorite channels

That you ran to help someone in need is awesome. Way to show other people matter too. Thanks for doing what you do and looking out for others at the same time. The world is lucky to have dads like you.
Cool that Derek helped the family with the fire. I had a car where ethanol ate through the fuel line, not long after ethanol was first madated as 10% in pumo gasoline, & the car caught fire in a parking lot. I didn't have a fire extinguisher, but a Georgia Power linesman, just happened to have his bucket truck parked beside me, & he put out the fire with his fire extinguisher, before it spread. It could have been bad, because it was a covered parking deck, so I was really lucky. I replaced the fuel line & injector lines w/ R30, or whatever the ethanol proof fuel line is, & I was good to go. ...I always packed a fire extinguisher after that, even if I was in just a regular car, as I was in back then. Had them in my van & pick up truck, but I just never thought of a regular car as dangerous, I guess?

That Green Goblin really wanted to live. It made it 750 miles after sitting for so long. I feel like that is worth the extra time to fix up better and keep it alive.... Also, I gotta say, I know how much effort it takes to do a lot of what you do, and the whole editing of videos on top of all that. So seriously, Thank You for all your efforts to make these videos, because they are super cool to see. Well done good sir 💪 😎 👍
According to the federal HESCHLAVVO law, it is already forbidden in Switzerland to drive combustion engines on mountain passes from 2025. In France, the SCHLABOUBVE regulates that fossil vehicles that produce fine dust are prohibited in all cities from 2025. The BABVVO in Germany will bann exhaust gas pollution from 2027 and that is what will happen in entire EU also bann of all tires and brakes because of fine dust!!!

your spirit to not give up no matter what challenge you facing is appreciated. I always look forward to such long video uploads. Thank you for the content Derek ❤
You fixing the car is cool and all but what I really enjoy the most about these videos is the driving montages and then you fixing smaller problems on the go. Gives it the good roadtrip vibes.
I look forward to Derek’s shows on YT and Motor Trend. After watching the tragic current events of this nation and the world, and work stress, I need these shows to be reminded that there’s still good things going on by high quality people!
Hey Derek I really enjoy your revivals! The world sucks right now. So many things going down. To watch you work your magic and get these cars back home. Is really enjoyable!!
Been watching for years now, one of the silent majority and biggest fan! Really happy for your rise in stardom’s fame with you on Motortrend now! Congratulations Derrick your big time now and still very humble! The type of person that I respect very much. I really love these types of rescues over all other content. I can put myself right there with you and love the shows. Thanks for all your content and you have a great family. Thanks for all your doing!
The most entertaining program on tv. Back in the day, in the UK, there was a fashion for pink socks and lime green. We are talking 60 years plus ago. My dad BURNED them in front of me. I could live with a lime greem Corvette. The thing about Derek, he doesn't need script writers. Few people think that way. It's brilliant. Inspired. Will have to come back to tis one.
I’d like to see this one brought back to life but that’s just me , I know it’d take a lot of work , I do so enjoy your videos , no swearing , no drinking etc ; I can recommend all your videos to my kids , church friends , family etc; blessings to you and your family .
Glad you made it home safe Derek, I thought the 59 Elcamino over loaded with tools and a motorcycle was sketchy, you keep raising the bar pretty soon you’re going to be flying down the interstate sitting on a frame with a seat and wheels saying it’ll be fine 😖thank you and the family for another very entertaining white knuckle adventure and can’t wait for the next one!
I'd say the most sketchy of what i have watched. Is the one with the car with the engine in the centre and Derek bought a shonky orange pick up, because of the fumes. which had the worst wiring I've ever seen (twisted wire's) and amazed it never caught fires ...that was real sketch!.
Here in the UK, it's today, 22nd October, only we call it Harvest festival. Many years ago, when I was a boy, we celebrated it by taking veg into school to be delivered to local old folk.
Another fantastic episode! Way to keep your "boots moving" your perseverance and "never give up" attitude are to be commended! Can't wait for the next episode. God Bless America & VGG!!!!
I think this rescue has given all it has to give to the channel, donate it to some Vette-fanatic and move on to the next car in need of a rescue. Great video!!
@@charlesm7589 do not donate to community College they just get torn apart until they won't go back together then they get scrapped. Anyway that's what the one I went to dose
Watching your long heroic trip home made me realize how lucky I was, flying into Galesburg Illinois & buying a 68 stored Vette and driving it home to Oakland CA. Just a tune up & fluids change plus 2 quarts oil burned on I 80. A lifetime of wrenching still leaves me way short of Your impressive problem solving skills. Sometimes make up for this by great luck, like finding this one owner Vette with 88 K miles in original owner’s garage. Sold it in CA for ridiculous $. I believe we do share a real love for these old machines. That’s probably the source of the good luck sometimes added to our wrenching skills. Gotta know, Derek, when you make such a long highway haul as this revival was, “Somebody up there” really likes you.
Usually when you can see rapid water flow in the radiator from the cap it means half or more of the rad tubes are blocked and making water flow faster through the unblocked tubes. I'd remove and flush or replace the radiator.
Such quality content. Doesn't manufacture unnecessary drama to make click bait, even though those of us who've worked on old cars can feel the real tension of impending rapid mechanical deconstruction. Even when a random engine explodes and catches fire, he doesn't use it for his own content but just helps a family out.
Funny you picked that car from my neighborhood here in Florida I use to see it cruze the streets for many years , I often wondered what happened to that car a real eye catcher I live north of there now but when I seen your channel I said hey wait I know that car lol small world after all.
I know these revivals are starting to wear you down, but always appreciate you doing them. Most of us will watch anything you post. Always do what's best for you and your family. (The color has to go)! LOL
You need to have a revival labeled “with the help of fans “. Get everyone willing to help to send you their name address and phone number and then when you’re on the road and you need a hand or a tow or a ride you find the guy that’s closest and give him a call. If he can’t help find the next guy etc..

@@ViceGripGarage I've worked on several older Corvettes, if they set for long periods of time, the calipers tend to freeze up completely. You'll have to replace em. They are NOT interchangeable. You have to get the caliper for each individual wheel. They were around $80--85 each. You'll need brake pads also. Good Luck, dude.

Another great episode Jonny. This takes me back to when I was 18 1987 and had a shit brown 850cc which I soon starting trying to make fast and better looking. I patiently waited for a second hand 1275gt engineto come up and sent it up to Mini Land I think, it was in Yorkshire . They bored it out to 1380cc . I sprayed it myself as I worked in a garage, the same red with a white roof, white mirrors and the same pinstripe. The engine went back in with twin 40 Webber's, rc40 exhaust and cooper s discs under 10 inch minilites. It was a flying machine ....around a hundred bhp... Went to all the mini shows with it. Thank you this brought back so many memories of my youth ❤️
Derek gets major props for getting the Vette to limp 750 miles. The Vette itself is a basket case, other than keeping the fiberglass body for a frame swap.
As a frequent hose drinker, you have to let the hose run for a few minutes to clear out the stagnant water. Otherwise you're drinking days or weeks old water that was just sitting in the hose.
He has a very endearing manner, and clearly knows his business. I've never understood why people just dump beautiful machines and surprisingly don't appear ton want to sell them either.
It actually says a lot about his character. Derek is a very genuine guy. He lives TN about 2 and a half hours from where I live in KY. I'd like to meet him and Heavy D Sparks both one day.
Derick, you really have to love what you do to put up with all the problems that come up. But you do know we all love this journey you are on and wish we could be a part of it. Thank you kind Sir...
Derek is definitely enigmatic but fascinatingly so once I start watching him its really hard to stop. I can’t explain this but I can sense others are similarly mesmerized as well. He just makes you feel comfortable and included in his videos, like you’re part of his extended family.
Well, Derek, another great journey. When you first got her to "bark off," I thought, "They didn't make a diesel Stingray." An absolute masterclass in determination and skill with a can-do attitude.
Oh now you tell him. 😄😄
I tried like mad!
@@jasonkelley6185I'm sure he already knew this! Pretty much all Chevy and Mopars had this feature as a just in case option.
This is the guy you want to roll up when you’re stuck on the side of the road.

Derek I think if the frame is solid and not too rusty, it is a good candidate for saving. There is almost nothing that you can't get as far as parts for Vettes. Most every part that car would need is available after market.

Your impressive problem solving skills.
Derek is great he never swears or cusses he just gets on with it .
Such quality content. Doesn't manufacture unnecessary drama to make click bait, even though those of us who've worked on old cars can feel the real tension of impending rapid mechanical deconstruction.
