Shawn, honestly I never would’ve thought it was originally orange. So I went and looked this car up in its original 1971 Ontario Orange, and I have to say, it looked pretty darn good in that color. Then I remembered that years ago a friend had an AMAZING looking Fender Stratocaster guitar in “Burnt Candy Tangerine”, so I did a search on that color, and found several hot rods that had been done in that color. You should take a look at that and consider Burnt Candy Tangerine for this Vette. It would hold some of the original appeal, but look a hundred times as amazing. Great find my friend! - A fan of old Vettes from New Hampshire
Shawn, that '71 Stingray was a great buy. If that is the original long block in it, then the '71 has higher compression than a smog pump equipped '72, eh? If the block and head numbers match the car I would go with the original Ontario Orange. It was one of my favorite colors anyway. I also liked the War Bonnet yellow for '71. I had my '71 big block painted with Dupont Imron Seminole red metallic and it looked really good. You can never go wrong with any red or black on the C3 Vettes. That's an incredible deal for a classic Corvette! You've got yourself a real gem there, and we can't wait to see how it turns out once it's fully restored.
Lol, "a guy in Beverly Hills", that was a real strange looking Beverly Hills with alleys and cheap ass tract home. Looked like the San Fernando valley in the backyard of BH. Lol
Well you did good. A while back I bought a '77 for $3000. Several years and $20,000 later I had a real nice restomod. Drove it for a few years and then sold it for $17,000, used that money towards an '06 coupe. Great cars these Vettes.
Just stumbled on this channel. I could tell that there was more to Shawn than what was portrayed on the show. If anything, Shawn was the most important part of the crew, finding buyers and deals. Anyways, I was looking for part 2 of this video and was surprised to see that there are only 4 videos on the channel. Part 2 is not one of them. I hope we get more videos. The content is good.
The original color it came with would definitely raise someone's attention it's not my car but if it has 64k on the milage, number matched, then you already know it's value, seems your luck is off to a better horizon, liked the show, presentation as well 😁
Dude this guy breaks it down so easily to understand and how to diagnose a car! I barely know anything about cars 😂 keep on making these videos brotha !!
Hey Shawn, I’m so happy to see you on RUclips! I hope you’re very successful. I went through a half dozen 68-75 Vettes in my earlier years. My favorite was a 72 LT-1 with Air. I think it was the only solid lifter car with AC that GM ever made. I think they made 271 of them. I sure wish I still had it. It was remarkably weak In performance compared to a 70 LT -1. The pollution control stuff and the lower compression made a huge difference in performance. You really made me “homesick” for another. I may start looking for another. I’m really wondering if I’ll enjoy driving one, it’s been a long time! PS: No question in my mind on the color. Ontario orange. It’s original and orange is popular again. If you’re lucky they prepared the jams poorly and they’ll be easy to strip.
That's an incredible find for 3500! Nice buy and I would put it back the original color That will add value and that car is worth it being wreck free! But you know that already.
Dude is a cross between David Spade and Dana Carvey. Excellent Channel! For wheels that are locked up you can put fiberglass cafeteria trays under each stuck wheel. They will slide like butter.
Hey Shawn, we need an update on the car! We have to see it with a new paint job! Unless you sold it. Regardless, I really enjoyed the video. Just bought me a 2004 corvette. Had a couple C5s now, but planning on owning a C3 soon! Have a great day and keep up the videos! Would love to see more.
The car does sit nicely in the Ontario Orange, works well with the interior, matches the VIN and is a period colour. Another colour from that year that will catch some eyes is War Bonnet Yellow, the lines of the '71 vettes with the chrome really show off bright metallic colours. If I had a choice of colour to own I would probably go with Bridghampton Blue, Or Brands Hatch Green and these may appeal better to the masses. You could go for some flames or details on the hood, but I think the lines of the car speak for themselves.
How are you not more popular, what charm, what passion and what energy. You are amazing sir, reminds me of the roadkill episodes here on youtube and I love those!
Literally just binged all of Shawn's videos in reverse order and I really welcome this version of Shawn. In the show yeah he's cool and fun but now comparing this Shawn to GG Shawn, he's just so much happier, fun, energetic, and full of life compared to GG. In the show he gets little screen time and he feels muted compared to how he behaves here. I'm glad RUclips recommended me Shawn's channel and I super look forward to future videos and I do hope that moving forward, the directors of Gotham Garage can let Shawn either have more screen time or let him be more like this or both. I'd love to see Shawn more like this on the show.
Also kinda jealous that as someone who lives decently close by your area, frequently surfs online for cars to buy, I can't find killer deals like you lol. That's just the Shawn magic at work I guess 😅
First I thought if White was the original color I would suggest leaving it alone. But since it's been painted so many times I would go with a beautiful emerald green. That would be stunning! Put lots of metal flake in it!
Me too, notice how he left all that out of the video. Slick editor that he is and no mention of it from him either. As a corvette technician, maybe he was embarrassed, cause he knows he should not have run out of gas on his jury rigged tank.
Great video Shawn. I paid 3500 for my first Corvette back in 1977. It was a 1968 base Coupe with a 327 and 3 speed manual trans. Was super nice car and fun to drive! I did a frame on restoration.
That 71 is a real jewel. The great thing about fiberglass is that it doesn't rust! I spent 23 years at GM dealerships & one in particular was a big Chevy dealer. The owners private collection was mind blowing! From a 1923 Chevy Cabriolet with 23 miles on it to a set of Impala Convertibles from every year! Every year Camaro & Corvette too
That's the same year that a buddy of mine had. He almost never drove it. He pushed it out of the garage to wash a t then pushed it back into the garage which was carpeted. When he sold it in 1995 it had 3500 actual miles on it but the engine oil pan was just about rusted through. The underside was terribly rusted. The guy that bought it did a frame out complete restoration. He actually drove it to car shows an such.
What a score! I did sub so my vote: that factory Ontario Orange. If you wanted to drift a little from factory but still be orange that Mopar Burnt Orange metallic or Fords Competition Orange are really nice and either one would look killer on a 71 Vette and go great with a black interior.
I love these old Vettes! It was a time before they were insanely expensive and a man that worked hard could buy one to enjoy. Simple to work on and absolutely beautiful! I love people that are passionate about their vehicles you got a new subscriber keep them coming love it:P
I owned a '69 427 390hp with a 4 speed. It was totally stock when I bought it in 2004 with only 70K miles on the clock. Low optioned car without AC or even an AM/FM radio. Perfect color combination. LeMans Blue on a black interior. I had the paint corrected because they painted those cars in lacquer on fiberglass and it had lots of spider webbing. I sold it in 2011 because it was too much like the car owned me. Didn't want to change anything because I couldn't show it in C3 Stock if I did. It won lots of hardware after the paint correction. It was also one of the most uncomfortable cars I have ever owned, but it did get lots of eyeball out on the street. I bought a 2009 C6 in 2015 and I love it. More power, more room and it's Victory Red!
Great video. Reminds me of how my Dad would have worked on cars when he was your age. But he wouldn't have smoked the tyres, he was too gentle for that:) RIP Dad:) I'm probably too late, but Black, paint it black:)
I loved this video, Shawn! I appreciate how you keep it “family friendly.” As a houseparent at a children’s home I will definitely be watching this again with my boys. Thanks & I can’t wait to see more!
Outstanding video Mr. Pilot!!! Excellent score on the Vette too!! The original orange color gets my vote. Love you on Rust to Riches. Keep up the good work.

amazing that you had time to set up your camera, multiple angles, talk to the camera and THEN drive 16 miles to go get the car. Good thing you had a camera crew to park behind your car on the side of the road and watch you walk away.... LOL... .anyway. Nice find and a great deal! Makes me jealous.

@@michaelomode630 His name is Mark Towle. He the only person on there that wrecks the cars. He can't help himself not make the cars tacky messes with Gothom badges everywhere. He ruined the car in the episode where he took over a restoration after the original builder passed away by putting his logos all over it. Was 100% disrespectful. Tony, Constance, Michael 'Caveman' and Shawn are all great cast members :)
I always liked the Canary Yellow on these older Vettes. Not sure it was called that but it looked like Canary Yellow to me. The original Orange would look great as well. Nice find!
First time seeing you-your channel. Dude! You are a trip!!! LOVE watching a guy work on "real" car. I am so glad to see that you have your own you tube channel, I always thought that you are the maximum expression of a truly California genuine dude! 😎
Your channel is gonna be huge, keep it goin brother, also just my 2 cents something that would be awesome is to open a Q and A for other more novice builders out there, they could possibly send in vids of issues they may be having and get your diagnosis, would make a cool segement vid between vette building vids
You were dealt the lucky dog card that day. Great buy and I bet you couldn’t be happier. I’d think I would ditch those valve covers too. I subscribed to see what happens. Always been a Corvette guy especially those chrome bumper ones
Dude I am so glad I found you on RUclips ! You're so hilarious great content, and you look like a corvette master mechanic for sure ! The part where you need someone to help bleed the brakes and your talking to yourself is so golden ! love it !
Great score Shawn. My favorite color for Vettes of this vintage is "War Bonnet yellow" , which is actually more of a gold color than yellow. This car would look great in this color.

@@mackiri6996 One of the streaming channels could have seen his content and probably working on a deal to sign him up for a series.
The original color it came with would definitely raise someone's attention it's not my car but if it has 64k on the milage, number matched, then you already know it's value, seems your luck is off to a better horizon, liked the show, presentation as well 😁
thank you
My opinion , orange looks cheap , but maybe close to original with copper or bronze metallic mix would pop more modern (?)
Orange does NOT look cheep especially factory 71 orange.
New subscriber. Factory orange! Be well. Art
dont detract from an original color regardless of what it is,fuck making it modern.thats the best part about this car,it aint modern trash
Dude this guy breaks it down so easily to understand and how to diagnose a car! I barely know anything about cars 😂 keep on making these videos brotha !!
Thanks! Will do!
Wow is this channel a gem. Informative, funny as heck, and an emotional journey we get to share! Thanks!! Original color is my two cents.
Netflix should give you your own show bro! This is quality content.
Ha ha ha
Hey Shawn,
I’m so happy to see you on RUclips!
Great video. Amazing personality. We need more content.
Man what an episode!! I absolutely loved this old school Corvette restoration, keep 'em coming! 🔥
Oh man... I bumped into your video by accident. Love how you're doing it! Keep it real, show the fails and celebrate the wins!
Dude is a cross between David Spade and Dana Carvey. Excellent Channel! For wheels that are locked up you can put fiberglass cafeteria trays under each stuck wheel. They will slide like butter.
Where were you when I needed that advice. I will remember that one.
I vote for the Bridgehampton Blue. Look forward to seeing what you chose.
When Shawn walked backed with the empty gas can, I died of laughter.
How did you write your comment if you died?
@@OMGWTFLOLSMHColourful use of metaphors...
We've all been there.
Me too, notice how he left all that out of the video. Slick editor that he is and no mention of it from him either. As a corvette technician, maybe he was embarrassed, cause he knows he should not have run out of gas on his jury rigged tank.
I don’t own a Vette but Shawn’s videos are so entertaining. Keep ‘em coming
Great video Shawn. I paid 3500 for my first Corvette back in 1977. It was a 1968 base Coupe with a 327 and 3 speed manual trans. Was super nice car and fun to drive! I did a frame on restoration.
So happy I found this channel!!!! I love the show and you’re my favorite!
What's really awesome about this car is that it's a manual, not an automatic.👌
That 71 is a real jewel. The great thing about fiberglass is that it doesn't rust! I spent 23 years at GM dealerships & one in particular was a big Chevy dealer. The owners private collection was mind blowing! From a 1923 Chevy Cabriolet with 23 miles on it to a set of Impala Convertibles from every year! Every year Camaro & Corvette too
They rust. Just not the body.
@@dukeallen432 lol... How well do I know... I've worked on a few thou Vettes in my time
That's the same year that a buddy of mine had.
Oh man, the brake bleeding part was hilarious! Great score with this Vette!
Thanks Shawn for this entertaining and informative video. You're a Corvette mechanic genius. Keep up your labor of love. Shout out from NYC.
This guy is the Steve Irwin of Corvettes!
Dude you are awesome your attitude of gratitude amazes me your positive attitude will bring desired results
I appreciate that! and thanks for subbing
Man you are an awesome mechanic! Good job bringing this Corvette back to life. Live your channel!
I definitely prefer the chrome bumpers on the C3 'Vette. What an incredible find, btw.
I loved this video, Shawn! I appreciate how you keep it “family friendly.” As a houseparent at a children’s home I will definitely be watching this again with my boys. Thanks & I can’t wait to see more!
Welcome to you and your boys.
Outstanding video Mr. Pilot!!! Excellent score on the Vette too!! The original orange color gets my vote. Love you on Rust to Riches. Keep up the good work.
Thanks 👍
Great buy, great price, and a great mechanic; oh’ and a great Video! Still tinkering with my old 95 vet, and still much fun. Get more time, I will watch more of about your 71 model here!
Great find, man ! Congratulations, and I hope you're having a great time fixing it up. Hopefully we will get another video of this one as you move forward with the restoration.
This upload is awesome. Although I'm a casual watcher of channels like this one and I don't know a lot of about cars, I enjoy these types of show. If this channel keeps making contents like this, it will reach 1M subscribers soon. Content is great; there's humor, knowledge and drama to overcome.
Dude.. Shawn... How in this wild and crazy world do you *not* have 500k+ subscribers??! Man your camera work, content, and most importantly your personality are incredible.
This video is the first one I've seen of yours. It caught my eye when it came across my feed and this is where the story begins lol.
I'm very ecstatic to have ran across your channel, man, now I've got a new favorite one to watch for sure!
Take care, brother. --JW from Middle Tennessee
*Edit: Alright, I just clicked on the channel and seen the two uploads, and also you're on Netflix as well. So all that fantastic camera work and inviting personality makes sense now 😆 I'll have to click on Netflix and check it out.. I rarely ever watch that platform, hence why I haven't seen your work before. I'm still a fan though, brother man! Lol
Same! Just subbed.
I naturally would of thought this guy would have at lest 100K subs hes got some good stuff going on here!
Only two videos …. 5k subs sounds pretty good for just 2 videos unless I’m missing something but I agree with you! Great video, camera work, production! I subscribed! Looking forward to more content.
very early days
7.2k in 4 days is pretty good growth just wait until the masses find him it’s just us car guys rn
First time to watch your video and I am so glad this popped up on my feed. The donuts sealed it for me, I'm watching your stuff from now on. Great energy and love the old 'vettes!!
Really enjoyed the video and your energy. Can’t wait for the follow up video! Love that you’re explaining the real time diagnoses and showing how it’s done.
You absolutely earned this subscription!
What’s better than owning a Corvette?
Owning more than one!
Thanks for the sub
Whats better then owning a Corvette? Owning a Cobra. Just my humble opinion.
There’s some solid editing and film work done here. Feels like a lower budget show on television. The personality and excitement of the host drew me in his knowledge of mechanics kept me here
amazing that you had time to set up your camera, multiple angles, talk to the camera and THEN drive 16 miles to go get the car. Good thing you had a camera crew to park behind your car on the side of the road and watch you walk away.... LOL... .anyway. Nice find and a great deal! Makes me jealous.
Shawn, this content is far beyond the tacky messes they make in Gothom. Please keep up with the channel. This is content I enjoy watching. You have single handedly created a great show that not only rivals Wheeler Dealers but surpass it.
Great job... Cant wait to see the new paint on the car :)
I am excited to see Shawn "free," that other dude was brutal...but the lady was a nice teammate.
Mike I think his name is was so arrogant, lol, how Shawn put up with him amazes me...Shawn was always able to tame that dude but it took a lot of effort. Godlike work ethics...Shawn.
Tony, Constance, Michael 'Caveman' and Shawn are all great cast members :)
yes...that was more than a car show a lot...but we thank you for sharing the content. Its real! 😃 @@thevoidire
he is a fussy character (Mark). Love Caveman🥰@@thevoidire
I always liked the Canary Yellow on these older Vettes. Not sure it was called that but it looked like Canary Yellow to me. The original Orange would look great as well. Nice find!
This is real entertainment. You’re a real mechanic. This episode its amazing. Looking to seeing more episodes 👌
Watching the show on Netflix & now seeing your Corvette junkcar is crazy, keep being awesome Shawn.
First time seeing you-your channel. Dude! You are a trip!!! LOVE watching a guy work on "real" car. I forget how easy was it to do things under the hood to cars before computers came along and everything was squished into a friggen box. And definitely one of the best finds/deals ever. Good for you and good job. I'm leaning towards RED.
I knew you had some experience playing with cars, I'm glad your starting a RUclips channel, we need more videos like this, showing the younger generation how cool older rigs are, and how easy to work on they are, keep up the great work
Thanks! Will do!
It always amazes me how many golden finds are in usa. In Europe this car wouldn be atleast 20 something thousand. Great video 👍
Thanks for subbing
Dude I am so glad I found you on RUclips ! You're so hilarious great content, and you look like a corvette master mechanic for sure ! The part where you need someone to help bleed the brakes and your talking to yourself is so golden ! love it !
i had to watch part twice! pump it up
Ontario orange metallic. .will be fantastic.. as it was ..
any other color will make it the same as the others.. the orange will make it pop out !
Great score Shawn. My favorite color for Vettes of this vintage is "War Bonnet yellow" , which is actually more of a gold color than yellow. This car would look great in this color.
Go with the original color, sounds sweet and it will be a nice restore to the original that way.
Enjoyed it, Shawn. Been a fan of the show for a while, and this is a fantastic format. Love that you're really getting into the aspects of fixing these cars up. Subscribed!
thanks for the sub
Absolutely loved your video first time I've watched your show. I'm from the detroit area and you remind me of Tim Allen ... Ooh ooh.
What a steal! Love the off road Vette, towing in style for sure! Keep it up and Thanks!
Thanks! Will do!
I want to build a tow rig like that. Shawn always like you on the show because you are like me. Realistic, but positive lol Came across the channel by accident. Love it!
Shawn!!!!! I LOVE THIS!!! Can you just start producing content full time?? At least a video a week! I would be head over heels for your channel! Love the design work and love to see you more away from Gotham as your a wheeler and dealer that I can fall into like with! I gotta say, I’m impressed! Love the videos and don’t stop man! If you ever get to Tampa FL, I’ll take you fishing! Haha!
You’re show is my favorite. Can you ask Mark if he will upload more seasons?
hello Shawn, great video, as a painter myself I think the original orange is a good idea.
I just picked up a 76 camaro and started the restoration process, good luck with your channel im sure you will succeed.
Frankenstein for real . I don’t even like cars but you brought this back to life was cool. Like watching a movie with a good ending
I’m glad I found your show! This is great, I really like the work you do and you’re really good with the camera.
Great video, glad I found this channel!
You gotta paint it red Shawn. BTW your humbleness and passion is out of this planet. keep doing what you love and God bless you.
Hey Shawn, I really like you on Rust to Riches but had no idea how much knowledge you have being a mechanic. I enjoy watching folks work on cars even though I don't know squat about it. I appreciate you explaining things like you do! You come across as a really good dude!
Hey, thanks
Let’s go Shawn. It’s been 6 months. Ready to see some updates 👍
9months now. 😢 hope Shawn has more content
@@mackiri6996 One of the streaming channels could have seen his content and probably working on a deal to sign him up for a series. Fingers crossed he gets Constance in to help and leaves out Mark Towle. GG cars were often ill conceived and never looked that great. OK for movies, but not quality builds like Boyd Coddington, Chip Foose or the Mark Worman projects he does at Graveyard Carz.
