    Fun fact: the person who made the ost for Spongebob Supersponge was Matt Simmons, a composer of Silent Hill Origins, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, and OF COURSE. . . Lego Racers

    The GBA version is way better, you keep the glove permanently so you always have a default attack that doesn't suck, the level layouts are different, and the health system makes way more sense.

    • @JulianR2JG
      @JulianR2JG 2 года назад +4

      true, but the PS1 version has aged better, one problem with the GBA soundtrack is that it's not supposed to sound correct. due to the hellspawn of the GBA hardware 2/3rds of the notes have a vibrato effect to it, mostly being the long ones. a youtuber named Dark Fawfulthegreat64 uploaded the full OST of the GBA soundtrack in the way of how it is supposed to sound.
      oh, also, some songs in the GBA OST don’t loop correctly and have a few seconds of silence, like the main menu theme. to be fair tho, it is the first 2d platformer on the GBA.

    This game is so nostalgic. Even before I bought the game I listened to its awesome soundtrack. I remember when I first bought it, the Vintage Stock cashier remembered when he first got it when he was a kid
    That being said, the reef blower is my worst nightmare, and this game gets WAY too challenging. It may be nostalgic but I pretty much only have nostalgia for the first world and if I go back to this game, I’m playing the first world again.

    Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy were sending SpongeBob on ridiculous tasks, I’m not sure they were trying to kill him, more like the same tactic Mr. Krabs used in the pilot episode. I probably doubt they were fully aware of the danger, hell, Mermaid Man forgets a ton of stuff every 10 seconds, or 5.

    Just started playing the GBA version, and I would recommend you check it out. It is similar to the PSX version, but there are some quality-of-life improvements like the redone health system, the item usage, and some actually decent bosses. The controls are a bit off and the game is still short, but between the two, I think the GBA version is the better one.

  • @VexAcer

    I remember the GBA one being alright while never really enjoying the PS1 ver. While they were similar conceptually there was definitely a bunch of differences between them.

  • @newrallyxeviousgamer

    Okay, I’ll admit something. I don’t think the gameplay is bad. From the footage, you don’t really seem to utilize the ground pound a lot and you aren’t really that careful with your platforming. SuperSponge has passable level design that isn’t reliant on damage boosts, that’s kind of what bothered me about this review. Though it’s not your fault, not everyone is super good at everything.
    Aside from the poor gameplay on your end, I do agree with the rest of the review though. The soundtrack is so damn good that I listen to it still to this day!

  • @SpeedsterBlur
    @SpeedsterBlur 3 года назад +1

    The GBA version is actually significantly different from the ps1 version.
    1. The gba version did not have great music (although it is the same music as the ps1)
    2. The health system is the traditional 100 number system with some enemies causing more damage
    3. The levels are shorter
    4. There's different enemies
    5. There's a password system
    6. There's no bonus levels
    Also getting all 100 spatulas does do something (it's just really small and insignificant). You can go to the bonus stage (last stage on the bottom right) which takes you to a mini game where you can earn tokens to spend on a gift for Patrick to appear in the final cutscene. The amount of spatulas you need to get to a bonus stage however starts at 60 spatulas, but increases by 10 each chapter. Thankfully this is the chapter total not the game total.

    Not sure if anyone else has yelled at you for it but you are VERY much wrong about the PS1 being a primarily 3D console.
    While a lot of its library is indeed 3D games, considering the PS1 was originally meant to compete with the SNES -- a lot of its library were 2D games. The first controller for it even lacked analog sticks and remained that way for a good chunk of the console's lifespan. It is definitely weird though how the game is rather similar to its GBA counterpart, though.
