Sean, I got the Musiker Tele version. Same finish, pick guard, knobs, everything. It had the same build quality as your Strat. After spending an hour or so setting it up, no problems. Plays great. I'm bribing my son with it. Once he can play his first song, it's his.
I always love them calling those nut slot files. Those are actually acetylene torch tip cleaners. I got a box full of those from my days as a mechanic. Good video, Sean.
Of all the things I've learned from watching your videos, the whole "feeler gauge + rubber bands" trick on cutting the nut is by far the most useful ... I used to sweat nut cutting and after that trick I could cut a nut blind-folded and half drunk and still do a good job (not that I would, but you know what I mean :) ).
I'm in Australia and most people don't think they can do a string change or a fret polish or set up the action and notation I try to show people and if you have a fret ruler you can get your neck very straight and even put a little relief in the neck I learnt this all by watching on the internet how to that's so great what you are doing and helping people this is how respect starts thank you
All that dust, its polish residue. It’s used to polish the guitar at various stages after all wet sanding is complete. It does not affect tone; however, it should be blown out using compressed air, a rag, a vacuum and maybe some naphtha or similar. This polishing residue is used on the larger diameter circular wheel that is generally 100% cotton. Each polishing compound has various levels of very fine grit. If you don’t have the polish compound, you run a chance of burning your finish coat. You’ll burn the finish coat to wood in a second or less. The only thing to do after a burn though, wet sand and re-spray. Not as bad if your using Urethane, if your using lacquer, you have another 30 days of hang time, allowing the lacquer to set so you can final buff. Yes, you can do it sooner, 30 days is a rule of thumb. Yes, it’s a < $100 dollar guitar, but, it would take < 3:00 minutes to clean that mess out. 😊
OK…so I went back to TEMU. 🙄Picked a strat copy listed on sale for $62.00. Great, it says pick a color to put in your cart….BAM the price goes to $130.00 in your cart. Forget it.
Thanks to you I got a Radient Blue for 31.xx shipped, when you broke yours down I seen the no route body I been looking for to build a dual p90 Strat! Thanks Sean!!!!
That was a fun and informative video Sean. Never thought of using torch tip cleaners as a nut file. I use them on funky, dirty carburetors during a overhaul. See ya on the live stream.
You can call me out! I was the mystery Instagram poster, folks. I’m cool with being wrong about something lol. None of us knows everything. I was informed by another RUclipsr, shall we say. You’re correct that the RUclipsr I got the info from did not distinguish between finished and unfinished wood. He has said many times that oil does not add moisture and only polishes the surface. He has said that the only way to add moisture to a neck is to humidify the guitar, preferably in the case or with a room humidifier. It makes a lot of sense that Sean said that logic only applies to a neck that’s 100% finished. It makes sense that oil will absorb into a dry unfinished neck because they are still liquids according to science. My question is will oil alone be enough to really help a neck that’s dry enough to be cracking and bending beyond the fretboard itself? I would imagine humidification would still help in the case of a really, really dry neck, even if you do condition the fretboard. After all, the fretboard is a veneer of sorts on top of the rest of the neck. Maybe that’s what this other RUclipsr has meant when he says oil only helps on the surface- meaning just moisturizing the fretboard par where oiling a dry fretboard won’t help humidify the rest of the entire neck if it’s really dry beyond the fretboard itself and leading to bending/cracking? That actually makes sense the more I think about it. Maybe you and this other RUclipsr are referring to two different aspects of dry wood and how to resolve two different issues? That would make both of you correct, actually. Help!! So confusing!! 😂😂😂
I used edible mineral oil for putting on cutting boards and wooden kitchen utensils on my fretboard, and I have never seen a product work so well on a rosewood fretboard. It does not leave it so oily feeling like lemon oil, which is just mineral oil, but it seems heavier than what I used. It worked out so well on a rosewood fretboard.
I bought the MusiKer Telecaster sunburst and did the same thing you did with the same kit. Mounted with 5 strings Keith style. Surprising Stones tone!!!!! Thanks, Shaun.
My wife got me a little guitar cleaning kit and it came with that rectangular fret polisher/fret cleaner and shit for the life of me I couldn’t find a video telling me WTH it was for , Hell you get a thumbs up just for that let alone all the other cool stuff you should, really cool 😎 thanks again brother 😊
Nice job you did with setting that "strat". Yet, when it comes to "a bang for your buck", nowadays I would recommend choosing between two sources: Indonesia-made Squiers ("approved" by Fender) and the Harley Benton (source based at Thomann) that delivers good "clones" of many brand-name models at a fraction of the price(s).
Turned out better than the Harley Benton nightmare I'm about to deal with. Bought this garbage around 4 years ago to learn with, but it discouraged me so bad that its been hanging on my wall since. Only recently found a guy in my area that may be able to help me out with it, so I can maybe learn something finally. The neck looks a bit like a banana, but the nut was cut too deep also. The frets are sharp as crap and unlevel all over, and the output jack is loose to the point the plug wiggles around in it. I could go on. Only paid around 130 for it to the door, but it'll probably cost me way more than that to fix it. If it had come from the States, I'd have just sent it back. Anyway, keep doing what you do.
I have found that the plastic neck plate washer/gasket is a good idea with Paulowania bodies as without it the neck plate crushes into the body easily when tightening up the screws...I've come back with epoxy to fill a couple of them...
I love the surprised look in your face the first time you played it plugged in. Sounds pretty good. Makes sense, tho, since most cheaper guitars are made in China. Get video, thanks, Sean!
That strat copy is nicer than my first guitar I had back in 1979. I had a Hohner Strat which cost me $129 back then. Today, that would be $546.69. I had to save for it over 2 months for that back then working at the music store I bought it from. I was a sophomore in high school. Back then, beginner guitars wore horrible. Luckily I worked at a music store part time and my boss's husband was a guitar tech. He setup my crappy Hohner for free. Back then, you'd have to get a name brand guitar to get a good one. They cost around $1,000. That's like $4,200+ today.
My son bought an Ibanez Gio from Sweetwater for $200.00. There was zero fret buzz. Intonation was perfect, Frets were perfect, no sharp frets at all, The string height was perfect. low action. Awesome pickups for a $200.00 guitar. I was mind blown. I went online to read other peoples reviews and found several complaints, but most people were happy and pleased with them. His guitar plays and sounds like a $700.00 guitar. I ordered one and I'm waiting to see what it's like when it arrives. It wasn't ordered from Sweetwater though it was ordered from Guitar Center. That shouldn't matter but I'll let you know what my experience was like after I receive it today. I doubt that mine will be as great as his was, but we'll see.
Ah. Dunno I've heard lots of negative stuff about Temu. You made that cheap guitar sound great though....knowing how to do a proper setup makes all the difference....$89 guitar with a $200 setup and volia! Instant decent guitar!!.great job once again! Cheers!
I picked up a copy of 59 les paul with p-90's its is amassing and It came to my door on the cheap. I have not as much as had too replace the strings! Owned it 2 or more months now ! I say go for it mine is best purchase I have made in years!
I got that same wireless setup a few weeks back and like it. I have no experience with any of them, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it works and didn''t cost anything. Wife got me 5 pedals from there too and played with them a little as well. All were basically free because she plays games that give her credits on Temu. They work pretty good.
Looking good brother. Nice to see everything low cost is not trash. I've found over the last few years that these companies aren't doing too bad and the good thing with Temu is so far they seem to get you what you paid for in a decent time frame and make sure it actually gets there. All the best man 👍✌😎
Thanks man for the temu tip I am installing their app right now and go inside and browse see what i can find. And I might add this is an excellent video that you made showing us how to properly prep set a guitar. Thank you.😊
Nice sunburst finish on that "Strat". Good-looking guitar. Amazing what can be done these days, at what would have been an impossible price, back when I started playing. My first guitar was a Kay, which would count as sub-junk today.
Wow! That was science folks and art. Man have I got a lot to learn. I will have to watch that again and take notes cause I'm a bit of a dummy. But we all have something to learn don't we. Beautiful job Mr Scarred. That guitar sounded so good after your T.L.C. Rock on! Bye for now. P.S. I'm sending all my guitars to you. No you're very busy I'm sure but I will keep learning. Made some adj's recently and didn't do too bad for a beginner. Keep rockin the channel Sean and thanks.
I also bought guitarstuff from TEMU and i'm very pleased to see those things work, they were strapp locks for the guitarbelt, and man they won't ever fly off again!!! Very good stuff they sell!! Till next time guys!!
Nice! Temu has the Dlaso brand as well, are those worth a darn? Definitely going to be watching more of your videos and I don't just subscribe to anyone, you make great content and explain very well! I have been wondering about that setup kit as well! Thanks again!
instead of filing right away, you could first hammer that fret down a little to make sure it wasn't just loose and high and needed to be tapped back in and glued a little better.
Guess i'll try temu out. Just ordered a strat body, loaded pickguard and rear tremolo cover (i've already got a strat neck and bridge) all for about 40 bucks with this code and still got free shipping as well. may have me a nice budget strat to play on if everything fits lol
That sounds just like my Silvertone tri-burst after I set it up. It is made out of plywood and I don’t know what it is,, but after getting it right it was like that, big strong sound. 9.5 in radius, but polishing the neck, it was dry and clean the frets and It sounds good. People cuss plywood bodies, but this one is loud unplugged and hooked up to my little Peavey Rage practice, it can buzz your eardrums. That is a handy maintenance kit. Really good to keep in your gig bag or case.
Luv yr chnl Sean, been checking out regularly. The Temu video was cool (budget?) Well all Chinese apps & online stores are banned here in India. But it was cool to hv u talk abt it. Rock on bud & keep it up
I saw a really nice 60 dollar guitar with a trem system and the tuning keys werent crunchy at all. Stargazer I believe its called, its ugly as sin but its a solid solid guitar. You know i've played 23 years and I never thought that much about what they do when I bring a guitar in for adjustments. Good to know its just some filing and a repair kit can't do a whole fret job, I thought it could .-.
I was just looking at those wireless guitar things I seen a guy on a video use a adapter he made to go from quarter inch to XLR and used it as a wireless mic too lol... I have an original line six relay so I was getting these for my wife's base in my pastor's guitar but I haven't ordered them yet so can't wait to see what they do
Love your video and guidance in setting up a guitar! One thing I wondered, why not add some shielding to the pickup holes and switch holes while you have it apart? Thanks so much for the video!
Hi Sean!👋 God bless ya brother! It's so refreshing to see 👀 an honest everyday guy doing an honest review and opinion video! FINALLY! A review channel guy that knows what he's doing but is NOT A "GUITAR DOUCHE" making a video that's not about the gear, as much as about how "great" he is! You absolutely have a loyal new subscriber here my friend! God bless and take care...
Why would you shim the neck when there is plenty of adjustment available at the saddles? The only reason to ever shim a neck is when there is not enough adjustment at the saddle to get the action correct.
Ive been buying amazon and wish guitars since 2020. Its sort of a crapshoot, even knowing how to setup and fix a guitar, but holy SHIIIIIIT can you find some oddly solidly built guitars for under 200 bucks. Like, better guitars than i ever touched in Guitar Center good.
I see no other comments on it so maybe my eyes deceive me, but were the wood screw holes for the "bolt" on neck WAY off center when he took the neck off? Freeze it at 13:32. Never seen one that bad off center, but maybe it won't affect function? If it doesn't it's still a deal for the price. Keep up the good content brother!
Sean tx for explaining that fretboard conditioner in my Temu setup kit/amazed at all the good stuff in that kit.i'm putting together a $67 Temu Telecaster diy kit.beautiful raw mahogany body & maple neck which takes red stain so well. a few shots of poly over that...i want to play this soon! fun to build & if it's good, i'll probably throw a Fender vintage 50's pickup set in.i can play just fine with funky tuners, pots, no Fender decal as i noticed you can make $100 guitars sound like $4000 guitars, heh heh
I got 5 phone cases fir a s23 ultra for like 20 bucks. A couple were ok ish but i wasn't expecting much for just a couple of dollars a piece. I went through a few different cheap tools from china but from Amazon. The music nomad nut files are more expensive but work amazing compared to those little cleaners. You get what you pay for a guess though lol
I got one. Big disappointment. It won't intonate I moved the bridge sandals all the way back it can't get the intonation set. the bridge too close to the nut. I found if I remove the springs I can move the sandals back enough to set intonation. Had to replace the tuners the original ones would not hold tune. sound good now. I love your channel.
I found that a fellow who works on guitars insists that wound strings on an acoustic do not need more than 2 wraps to stay stable. I wrap all my wound strings 2 turns max. and maybe 4 max. on the plain 3 strings. And the new SNARK tuners are nice to keep on a guitar headstock all the time....
I got a tele from them and it is decent . Came almost in perfect tune and played like it was professionally set up and sounded almost identical to my MIM Tele . So I ordered a Strat . Strat was okay but not up to the Tele as far as sound it was lacking until I upgraded the hardware
Love the videos brother!! I have an Ibanez that needs a new neck and can't seem to find what I want. Do you think you could fix mine or build me a new one? If not, maybe you could recommend a website for me to possibly get a new neck for it.
Could you show a little bit of the intonation process, maybe you have a tip or two, you don´t show us that part...setting string height too please! I know how to do it but still, you might know a tip or two.
I think that fret polisher actually string cleaner and lubricator. But it looks like it works good, but for that.. I think.... Remind me I shouldn't think it hurts too much.
Most useful guitar maintenance I’ve ever seen, temu or not. Coulda been a mexican strat! Enough issues with those for sure. One thing I didn’t understand was how you used that feeler gauge flat on the neck to see how much you had to file the nit slots but I’ll rewatch
He found the gage that was closest to height of the frets. He used that to make sure the nut slots were the same depth so it makes one less bind on the strings
Also paint tip cleaners!
Yep...👍
😊😊😊
Torch tip cleaners are too flexible. Very similar though.
@@scarmyguitarHey Sean. Where do I go to purchase one of your necks?

need to pick a different color; One in my cart is $100, a different color is $162
Thanks to you I got a Radient Blue for 31.xx shipped, when you broke yours down I seen the no route body I been looking for to build a dual p90 Strat!
Thanks Sean!!!!

Yes, we both are. :)
I've purchased a couple of dolamo effects pedals from temu. Completely satisfied
You're right! The bridge pickup almost sounds like a P90 even giving credits to a humbucker
For under 100 dollars shipped to you, Its pretty nice actually. First time viewer, very well done!
I used edible mineral oil for putting on cutting boards and wooden kitchen utensils on my fretboard, and I have never seen a product work so well on a rosewood fretboard. That stick with 2 sides is a string cleaner. Not for frets or the neck.
guitar sounds killer, wouldnt change nothing other than maybe the tuners

Wow you are right cant believe the sound that came out of that guitar. Amazing
Way to model that guitar, Cathy! Work it! 💁🏼♀️😂❤
I have found that the plastic neck plate washer/gasket is a good idea with Paulowania bodies as without it the neck plate crushes into the body easily when tightening up the screws...I've come back with epoxy to fill a couple of them...

That mystery device is a string cleaner and lubricator not a fret board conditioner
I hope you have a good Halloween special planned for us.

Love your knowledgeable info Sean 👍 Thanks brother.
My maple neck gets totally polished every couple string changes with NU FINISH car polish.
Best looking and playing cheap neck ever.
The nut files have been around for years, as OXY Acetylene welder tip cleaners. Do a price comp with a welding supply and you may save a few bucks.
Hey Shawn I want the guitar you fixed for the bald schedder
Ya gotta tell him he's doin the give away!
Hey SHawn, you should do a video on how to sharpen a knife, because watching you open up that box tells me you sure know how to sharpen a knife...
I hate shifty new cheap guitars but you make them sound so sweet so fast I'm starting to feel like I've been wasting my money on Gibson and fenders

Awesome sounding guitar!! All i need to get back to playing electric.
Sean on another video can you explain how you level the neck with the saddle/bridge. Appreciate your videos.
Yup you’re right. I saw that
All I can say is wow, good video Sean
Sean tx for explaining that fretboard conditioner in my Temu setup kit/amazed at all the good stuff in that kit.i'm putting together a $67
Temu Telecaster diy kit.beautiful raw mahogany body & maple neck which takes red stain so well. a few shots of poly over that...i want to play this soon! fun to build & if it's good, i'll probably throw a Fender vintage 50's pickup set in.i can play just fine with funky tuners, pots, no Fender decal as i noticed you can make $100 guitars sound like $4000 guitars, heh heh
💯💪👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸 that was a pretty cool video Sean, now I’m going to have to go surfing on Temu,,
They bumped up the price on the Musiker to $130. Still a good deal at $65.
Easy fix. Use some toothpicks to plug the screw holes after you remove the bridge. Drill new holes where it should be. Done.
@@scarmyguitarI approve this message 👍
Love the toothpick trick, saved me a lot of trouble over the years fiddling with guitars. @@scarmyguitar
I like your whole approach, you have earned another subscription. Thanks brother !
Awesome, thank you!
Swimming pool rout for the pickups. It's going to be hard to find a better deal than a sub $ 100 guitar for brand new.
I can't even PLAY a guitar, and I love watching these videos!
I have those wireless guitar devices. They work great for as long as they still have a charge.
I've been playing and working on guitars and other string instruments
I was taught to never use or clean a guitar with anything but water and I've been doing it over 55 years
Howdy from Billings Montana...Coool its almost like you got a Musiker Endorsement...Your Vids Crack Meeee UP Sometimes!!!!! LoloL
Earned a sub.. first video of yours I have seen. 👍🏼🎸
Thought you were going try out that mini amp.
Nice review, good presentation and personality. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Once you used conditioner on the neck.. it looked super sweet.. funny just cleaned up the LesPaul today
I think that fret polisher actually string cleaner and lubricator. But it looks like it works good, but for that..
I think.... Remind me I shouldn't think it hurts too much.
It's got an AC/DC sound on the bridge pickup.
Sunburst my favorite!😊
Most useful guitar maintenance I’ve ever seen, temu or not. Coulda been a mexican strat! Enough issues with those for sure. One thing I didn’t understand was how you used that feeler gauge flat on the neck to see how much you had to file the nit slots but I’ll rewatch
He found the gage that was closest to height of the frets. He used that to make sure the nut slots were the same depth so it makes one less bind on the strings
@@RoyHayward-ng5rp Thank you!
rewatch... he finds the height of the fret then and adds second super thin gauge so he doesn't cut too deep..
I've got that same tool kit and fixed three guitars parts work good tools are cheap but useable. Strings sound good. A little ruff 12 gauge I think.
At least it has a swimming pool route. You can put any kind of pickup in it.
Not going to mention the size of the knife to open the box.
Ive been wondering about the pedals they have on their website
Damm that was fast shipping 😂😂. Good video buddy. Take care 👍✌️💯🎸🎸
I suspect all of the white stuff that's in all these guitars in the cavities is most likely some kind of buffing compound.
