hi, I looked at your Amazon list, for all sorts of parts to make our own picks ups & stuff, is the bees wax what we use to wax the pickups ? I saw the poles but what is the name of the tool we use to make sure the poles are polling in the right way before we put them into the pick up holes? thanks, I don't know what that tool is..
Brads has better wiring circuit with a better switch, pots and caps, no doubt. It also has way better tuners. It seems it also got the better body of mahogany. Shaun’s guitar has way better trem, with big block and no quality issues. It also has much better pickups, they sound strong and punchy with good flavour. I also think the neck is probably better with the fretwork etc. Build and assembly quality favours Shaun’s Scarcaster. It has better fit and finish and more cohesive hardware. In summary, my vote goes to Shaun. That said, love both your channels and have learned heaps from you.
When you drill those holes.....place a dbl layer of masking tape on the body and drill in 3 or more steps. I do it that way on furniture I build and never have a chip in the finish
Make it 2 hands up. I would like to see Cathy wind two single coils and how to wire solder it right to become a humbucker and not a microphone and put the back plate on soldered and how to wax pot it. I don’t have a wind counter machine, but to see and understand how each step is the difference between a good pickup wa great pickup. I have wax potted a few. From now on every one, just call me Bill.
Sean is the greatest repair video man I have ever seen. Not only is he truly talented his dialogue is well worth every video I can find! For anyone who is tired of seeing these...quit watching.
I landed on your channel about a week ago and I've been watching as many of your videos as possible since then. I caught your live feed tonight as well. I really enjoy your content, especially your humor! Btw, this particular guitar is nice for sure, looks and sounds great! This has quickly become my favorite guitar channel on RUclips! Keep up the great work man!
This channel is great. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy the content, but the host is great. You can tell that he truly is a very and kind person. That goes a long way when you are hosting a show. Respect, brother.
I am literally stunned at how juicy the custom made Axe sounded compared to the $900 dollar wall mount, this comparison is beyond being blown out of the water. Strangely I hear and see this kind of thing a whole lot lately. I am a bargain buyer of cheap guitars and I find it fascinating that literally my low budget guitars are 9 out of 10 times better than a pricy label. There are off label brands that are insane like Leo Jaymez, The cheap LP EPi's are literally fantastic, The SBYSolar are incredible, and Harly Bentons, I would argue pro ready with minor adjustments. Don't believe the brand hype, SMG is 100% on point with this low budget build. It proves everything you need to know about a quality axe and a wall mount. Today is a great day for low budget guitars that bury over priced wall mounts. I am stoked to know I am not the only guy on the block that has learned this and just always afraid to say it. Like how do ya try and explain this to somebody that literally spends thousands on a guitar and expect them to agree? They don't but the truth is so glaring admitting such would make them feel dumb blowing insane amounts on a over priced brand axe. This is one of your best video's! Keep rollin it!
Sean you prob already know this, but when I drill my holes through finish, I run the drill in reverse. Takes longer to make the hole but doesn't chip the finish. Learned this when drilling holes through fiberglass boat hulls.
Great video!! Tip: loosen the screws of the neck a little when the strings are on and in tune, so that the neck is maximally pocketed and makes best contact with the body, then tighten the screws of the neck again, tune it again, done
I have that same pickgaurd and it's great. I replaced all the wire with cloth pushback, the pots with CTS, orange drop caps. One for the singles and one for the bridge which has its own tone knob. It sounds fantastic and I've got $70 and some time in it.
My Temu guitar I built with an SSS pickguard sounds better than any guitar I bought. Except for the Kramer, I put a new loaded HSS pickguard on from TEMU. My tone pots broke when I put new nobs on the Kramer. I since repaired that pickguard with 500 pots from Temu. It's waiting for my next build.
Most loaded pickguards are single ply and have S Korean and Chinese trash. When you take the old pickguard off save everything you can because you might need it, like Napoleon you don’t want a piece of plastic or soldering something wrong because you don’t have an example to look at.
Sean, you are amazing ! I don't know how Kathy puts up with your Scar Talent ! Lotta Laughs though ~ Thanks for sharing your crazy world with us unscarred fans. Much thanks to you both ~ Peace ~
I bought one of those necks from you a few months ago and got to opened it up at Christmas and when I put it next to the other neck that was on the guitar that I won It was longer so I'm having my buddy rout the pocket a little about 3/16 of an inch or something so I can get the intonation right...That was very encouraging to see yours playing! I can't wait!!!
I got a cheapo drill from Ikea, and... before it broke... I loved it. It was sooo gutless that it could not possibly overtighten a screw. I'm also NOT a guitar guy, but I have done a fare bit of drywall work (also not a professional) and that old Ikea special never stripped a hole.
I did a temu build with that body. Used a Squier neck I had laying around. Bought a $25 loaded pickguard off Amazon with the a bridge humbucker & a rail single size humbucker in the neck & middle & mini toggles to coil split them. And a kill switch. $80 into it & it smokes all my other comparable guitars.
The fret ends are so nice i bet it feels really good. Nice and straight. Killer. I think they are both great guitars. I hope I can get one of those necks.
What is it about those 10mm sockets anyway? They are forever finding a place to hide. Guitar work, truck repair, motorcycle, boat, appliance repair... it doesn't matter what you are working on, the 10mm is the first one to go missing and the last one to be found.😁
Killer Sound Brother & can't beat the price ! just got my bridge and was finishing the mock-up on my build when You came on. Now to take it all back apart & start the hard part finishing the Body & Neck...
Black and White is always a good colour combo, i have 9 that are Black, White or B/W, and with chrome or nickel hardware it makes them pop. Back in the 70's and early 80's when i first started playing, decent guitars were expensive, nowadays many factories have computerised machinery that turns out quality guitars and parts inexpensively and with videos available on youtube kids can build great custom guitars for themselves at pocket money prices, i would have loved to have these options at 10 - 11 years old. Apologies for going on a bit, great build fella, sounds great, you should have let the Mrs do the scratch plate work tho.
Idk man, the neck is probably the most important part of a guitar. It affects both playability and comfort. I gotta say you might have an unfair advantage haha. Honestly if I had the ability and facility to build a neck I would do the same. Great guitar, man. Love that style of truss rod. Also, could you link your friend's channel in the description?
You're 100% correct on rules equaling boundaries , I'm 57 and still don't follow rules and never will. PS you're going to waste him in this competition , he must be crazy. You're the man!✌️🤘🤘
I'm blown away by the tone on this thing, and it looks absolutely fantastic to me. I watched your video and Brad's, and I have to hand it to him for electronics and personalization/creativity, but yours takes the crown in aesthetics and punch. I need to rewatch to see what pickups those are, still trippin' balz on how you made this thing sound - on any budget! (BTW i'm surprised you guys didn't replace the nut with a ceramic or bone nut from Temu and shape your own from a blank)
Looks and sounds fantastic ,better workmanship than my squier strat ,one of the claw screws pulled right out our it that was the bullet affinity lot better but no sound as good as yours ,thanks for another great video ,I've learned a lot ,keep em coming Sean ,from Baz in England
Upgrade your strat pickups and see what happens. I got a HSS player series MIM strat too that I hot rodded the F out of with some Seymour Duncans, staggered locking tuners and graphtech saddles and it's light out!
I would not touch a damn thing about those pickup's. The numbers are legit and the perfect spot. The pickups are literally the last thing I would change. Just my 2 cents just because Pickup's have to be a sweet spot, some got it, some do not.
@Mechanobi of course, we're all entitled to our own opinions, so my disagreement is respectful. The better an instrument sounds, the more I love it and want to play it and who doesn't want to sound as good as possible? I know I do. As someone who simultaneously loves and kind of hates fender guitars at the same time, if there's a better product than what fender decided to put on there, it's a no-brainer to me to upgrade it. I turned my HSS strat into something I absolutely love from something I just really liked. My other strat, on the other hand, I just ordered some fender vintage noiseless pickups for it that they put on a lot of their top end guitars and still retains the classic strat tones. All the hum and noise just ruin it for me, and I don't play it much as a result. However, i surely will after I put those babies in there. But the world needs its purists too, so more power to ya brother. Let's just keep rockin in our own ways. 🤘
Man! That is so nice. The only thing I want to do differently in my Silvertone Strat is two Humbuckers. I a loving those single coils though! I can’t imagine making mine sound a tenth that good! I am just going to have to put two Humbuckers in that plywood. Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Having what I'd choose to call a mid life INSPIRATION here. Did a bit of guitar between the ages of 10 and 18. Been a long while, but I'm tempted to learn again with electric. This video has encouraged me to go further and build my own. Well within my capabilities to do. Just love the sound of this build, it's amazing. Tried the link for the pickguard and it's coming up as a double humbucker instead of the one you've got with the neck and middle using the Alnico Vs. I'm guessing this would make a huge difference to the sound? Any suitable alternatives on Temu??
Here's a tip I've learned myself lately. For the tuning machine screws I have broken two in the past. I was luckily able to extract them, but to prevent it I tried a few different things from beeswax to bar soap, but the best thing I've found is chap stick. Just stick each screw into the chap stick a bit to get some on the threads and it's like they beg to go in. Yep! Chap-sticked screws crave wood. 😄 Another tip: Run your drill press backward a bit to prevent tear out when you are drilling those 2-post bridge inserts.
Nice. I make the first tone control set the tone for every combination, and re-wire the second tone control to add as much neck pickup as you want. That way I get more combinations of pickups than the standard 5 way switch.
Hey Sean I love this video man. This is probably my favorite guitar so far that you’ve done. I think you have some of the parts in the description but can you tell me where you got the pick up and it looks like Temu might be out of some of the stuff I would love to get that exact guitar
@ Hey Sean I found the same loaded pick guard that you used and I ordered it. I also found a white Strat neck, I wanted to make sure it’s fixed though I did a side-by-side picture of them. I didn’t know if you’re able to look at it and tell if it’ll work. ?
@ Hey Sean I got the exact same pick guard loaded, same pickups . I noticed the pots are smaller. Were yours small to? Should I leave it that way because of the 2 singles?
Hey Sean, This is another amazingly entertaining video! Thanks for all that you do! We definitely appreciate you! You're a blessing to the guitar enthusiast community! Stay blessed!
Just found your channel, love it and subscribed. Agreed on the sticker thing too. Think your build of the Temu sounds better than the Fender. Glad this poopy up. Really enjoy watching, thanks.
Don’t let your deal go down you’re killing me I didn’t know you were going to really get a fender out and compare it. I could tell the minute you played that thing just with the strings no amplifier that’s one of the finest Bolton next track type guitars I’ve ever heard in my life. I mean that thing is ringing , so intonations perfect you can just feel how hard the neck is the compression out of that neck is sick
Both did a nice job but like you said nothing beating this guitar you built sounds amazing looks great hell of a job have to give this challenge to you. Gained a new subscriber
Man Sean, That is a very nice looking roasted Maple neck. That neck looks better than the roasted Maple neck on my $450 FR Fender squire. Your fret work is better than mine on the ends, 👍
This guitar is a little better than Guitologist's. He has a huge gap between the neck and body in the neck pocket. Also, he used more than two items not from Temu (pots, pickups, tuners).
Which trem did you use? I tried look after both videos, and have not found it. I see the trems with the small blocks. Also, I haven't seen that loaded pickguard either. I did buy two Dlaso guitars from Temu for my son and I (or maybe just me) to modify. I may keep one a SSS, but upgrade pickups, pots, bridge, and tuners. The other, I ordered a loaded HSH pickguard, but I want to replace the pickups, put a dual rail where the single coil is, and I want to use a Gilmour mod, and use push pull pots to split coils. I think I have an idea how I can wire that.
I watch guys put necks on guitars and its a perfect fit every time…I bought a mighty mite strat neck for a fender body and had a 1/16th gap side to side in the pocket…I was so pissed off…I’m gonna use it to practice my fretting!!
Hey, I want to build a tele. Can you recommend Temu parts? Do they have beginner kits? Maybe with options to upgrade? How do I get one of your necks? Thanks.

Wow , Shawn that guitar sounds killer man! I can't believe it sounds so good 😂❤
Very cool. Like how it sound
Man you just made Fender look real bad they going to send the Men in Black out to you those pickups are great
What is the name of that black little wrench you used for the tuners? I GOTTA have one of those!
In the description brother!
@@scarmyguitar Ordered, thanks, Sean👍
I do so love the build, this was a good one.
That Temu Strat is Top Shelf ! 🤔😎🎸
every TEMU item listed here is sold out or discontinued. They gotta love you man!
I use drills , on almost everything that I can use it on Thanks for the video you got a New Fan! I liked & I subscribed
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice video. I enjoyed watching both yours and your friend's. Makes me want to build a guitar.
Man that guitar sounds killer, I agree I think it sounds better than the Fender 👍🎸
Don’t let your deal go down you’re killing me
I didn’t know you were going to really get a fender out and compare it. I could tell the minute you played that thing just with the strings no amplifier that’s one of the finest Bolton next track type guitars I’ve ever heard in my life. I mean that thing is ringing , so intonations perfect you can just feel how hard the neck is the compression out of that neck is sick
Another beauty!! You could turn me into a strat guy yet. Looks and sounds killer 👍🎸
Thank you for posting this ✌️💜🎸💯
Sean try using a forstner bit in the neck pocket and put a piezo pickup under it. Run a stereo output jack
Temu is a Chinese owned company. Their US locaion is Boston, but they are owned directly an completely by the Chinese.
China is building plants in Mexico.
Both did a nice job but like you said nothing beating this guitar you built sounds amazing looks great hell of a job have to give this challenge to you. Gained a new subscriber
Thanks!
Use a forstner bit for cleaner holes
I saw Brad's build, both great but I'm leaning in your direction, lol. Keep om keeping on!
Would love to do a first time tele build....would ya recommend a parts list or better yet just do a video and lets git this guitar built....lol
Man, that guitar sounds lively af ... So satisfying when a cheap parts guitar blows you away 👍
Just a question. Why didn't you painter's tape it first, before drilling?
Sounds great
Which trem did you use?
Hey Sean where can we order your stainless steel fret guitar necks from and what is the general price on such a neck?
Damn nice looking guitar and sounds great too. Cant wait to see the other one that is competing also. Very cool. Thanks.
Hey, I want to build a tele. Can you recommend Temu parts? Do they have beginner kits? Maybe with options to upgrade? How do I get one of your necks? Thanks.
Necks will be in stock soon. Try this kit www.amazon.com/Canadian-unfinished-Headstock-Fingerboard-Fretboard/dp/B0C1ZQJH34/ref=sr_1_5?m=AG4BLOZM7CN3W&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&qid=1705205449&s=merchant-items&sr=1-5&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc
Where did you get that neck?
