A comprehensive guide to off roading from an absolute authority .. the way he deals various off-road situation and it's most effective solution described in such details demonstrates his vast experience. In a world where tachy flashy videos grabbing attention, this classic video stands out and is pleasure to watch. It's every bit is worth watching not once but over again.. thank you very much Andrew ..
Andrew, I must say this is the most informative and entertaining off-road video I have watched. At 70 years old, I have recently purchased a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser: 6 speed manual with A-track and locking rear differential. I’m sure I will rewatch this video numerous times to glean all I can from it and refer back to it like a reference manual. Much thanks!
Fantastic video. New to the offroad game and while there are a lot of gimmicky videos out there, this turned out to be a classic gem. From the far west, thank you for the time and efforts put into constructing this video for us to watch for free.
You Sir are THE man to learn from. Thank you so much Mr. Andrew I have HUGE respect towards you, matter of fact, before buying my first 4x4, I spent days watching your videos, which got me so much more inspired towards this "sport", and above all, gained the necessary experience to play it safe and correct. I started as a novice, now I hold a 3rd place podium finish at a 4x4 event thanks to you. You sir are a 4 wheeler's superman. Cheers and God bless you.
From a cold, rainy Sunday in November in the UK during Lockdown 2 transported to an amazingly beautiful landscape and taught a lot of things about driving I would never have even thought about. Thanks very much - Baie dankie!
Excellent tutorial Andrew, the best l have ever watched since buying and getting into four wheel driving, way back in 1978. I’m still into four wheel driving at age 66yo. I have a passion for getting into the bush to pursue my love of camping, fishing, shooting, bushwalking, photography etc, etc. Despite having many years of off-roading experience, l learnt many aspects of proper techniques from you’re excellent video, thank you so much for sharing, you sir, are a champion. All the very best. Brian Walker. Peace to everyone.😀
I'm amazed at the awesome skill level of driving, the use of stock production vehicles, and the lack of winches, lockers and massive tires to do it all. Great upload and thanks for all the advice, wisdom and techniques giving in this video!
Watched this video more than a decade ago when i bought my first 4x4, Jeep wrangler YJ. Today as i watch it once more i understand it a lot more than before. All that experience makes ahuge difference. There is no better tutorial video than this. Thank you.
Great video! So refreshing to see a 4x4 video without a Jeep Rubicon on 37" tires. Not that they aren't excellent 4x4s but I just see tooooo many here in Colorado and all these trucks in the video are mostly stock which makes you learn how to understand your vehicle and overcome obstacles better. I just sold my 96 Pajero SR and this video really made me miss it. I now have a 2005 Pajero which although a little less rugged it still gets me anywhere I need to go with 33"s and is great on the pavement too.
They really aren’t great.. the only new jeeps that actually go off road snap cv’s and tailshafts like you wouldn’t believe... they’re weak as shit now.. just a name with a high price.. why do you think you only ever see them in parking lots
@@kdigiacomo Have you ever looked up what "Pajero" means in Spanish? The British equivalent is "Wanker" and I believe the Americans say "jerk off" I told a buddy what it meant and he sold his - could have just bought a "Shogun" badge!
@@tommys_chopshop9432 The drivetrains are stronger than they've ever been. Look at what they're running for axles and transfer cases, everything can take more torque than the previous generations. The issue is that the vehicles are getting more powerful and heavier not to mention people are running larger and heavier tires than ever before. As weight and power increase you need to be ever more mindful of the vehicles built up (driveline) energy. So what has happened over the years is that while the raw specifications for the vehicles have increased dramatically that has also made them much more prone to damage from low skill or unmindful drivers. That's why he's always pushing smoothness. This hour and a half is a crash course lesson on how to be smooth through various terrain. That's the long story short here.
@@tommys_chopshop9432 jeep drivetrains are exponentially stronger now than they were with YJs and TJs. JL rubicon axles can now safely run 37s. The reason you see broken jeeps more is they make up the majority of the American off-road community and they wheel harder trails. Yes there are also a lot of pavement princesses but 4Runners are largely used as family vehicles.. so what are we really talking about there
Thanks Andrew. I bought all these DVDs in Richards Bay Kzn 2006 when I bought my first 4x4 Hyundai Terracan. There was an 8 month waiting list for the new Hilux. I studied those DVDs and found the MV Jolly Rubino wreck by accident. Such an amazing time of my life. Now living in UK and having serious withdrawals.
Great Video.. brings back many memories of my trips. As a young man, I delivered newspapers to be able to buy your book, bought it.. read it cover to cover many evenings, an eventually had my own 4x4 vehicle to experience what you had written about. Loved the Video.. Thank you!
This is by far, the most comprehensive and complete guide to properly operating a 4 wheel drive vehicle that I`ve ever seen. Bravo! Simply outstanding!
Maybe ... not maybe ... This is definitely THE BEST off roaf video / tutorial I habe EVER seen and probably there will never be a better vid than this ... !!! Excellent work . Hats off !!! I solute you
Great video. I have been off road many times I a standard 2 wheel drive and 4x4 suv. I have upgraded to a Jeep rubicon with the essential add ons. This movie gave some great tips on almost all encounters possible with common sense approaches and tips. My quests never encountered the extreme conditions demonstrated, except for snow, and now I have some ‘tools’ to fall back on. This was worth every minute of my time watching.
Man I know this is an older video but I didn't realize how old until I finally saw you at 28:43 - outstanding video Andrew and I'm learning a lot from it!
Thank you Andrew for your superb videos on the Canning Stock Route! My husband and I will be doing this trip in June 2018 in a Troopy 2010. We will commence our trip from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
Andrew. This video and others you have made are amazing. Recently, I had bought an LR3 or disco 3 (for our friends across the sea) and your videos have helped me navigate the obstacles of 4 wheeling. Your videos are the only ones online that taught me how to use the traction control system on these vehicles, thank you!! Now your videos have me pursing a purchase of a disco 1 with some solid axles and a manual gear box! Just wish America had the same choice of off roading vehicles as they do in Australia.
What an outstanding film. Thank you! I just bought a Disco 3 and whilst I have a lot of farm driving experience, I don't have much off road - so this was terrific. :)
WOW 😲 Andrew! I saw your Jimny 2019 video a few days ago, then I eventually found this video. I didn’t realize that you’ve been doing this for quite some time. In the beginning of this video, I was like “wait a minute! That’s a younger version of Andrew!” Great video (I haven’t finished watching it though) still got well over an hour left 🤠 Thank you for sharing this 👍
Great video, it enhanced my knowledge and showed a alot of great tips for when I go 4x4 driving next time I appreciate this video, I'm from Australia and I wished 4wd 24/7 would do similar type of video to help 4x4 ethusiast instead of just full sending it, this videos feels more realistic

Excellent video, many thanks for posting. I'm researching a self drive in Zambia. Your videos are highly informative and inspiring. Hello from Ireland.
Why would anyone downvote this wonderful encyclopedia? Maybe a little Dunning-Kruger effect? Mr. White lays it out so clearly. Always positive and encouraging. His ability to discuss the feel of a vehicle within any environment is amazing. Thank you, Mr. White.
So crazy to watch the videos from back then compared to now!! What an inspiration you have been to not only my adventures but my channel as well, thanks!! Coke is on me when we meet
What a great video. Great footage, great advices. And all done on vehicles with stock suspension. This video should be included with every new truly 4x4 on the market, on the dealership (or at least a recomendation to see it).
A true 4x4 guru with the same legendary status a Kingsley Holgate. A massive loss to the South African 4x4 community & a huge gain to the Australian one. Enjoy your new lifestyle in Perth Andrew👍
Free wheeling hubs are for so much more than just saving fuel. They reduce wear on parts e.g. front diff and CV's.They are also for improved reliability, in the event that your front differential or front axles/cv's break you are able to disengage the front driveline and safely operate the vehicle.
Fantastic video thank you! Really surprising how good the quality is for an older production. I've subscribed followed all of the more recent videos, through a love of 4x4, and just last week found the episode's about single crew filming, and how you've got to where you are. After showing them to my 14yr old who is a budding editor and going to a specific media school in the UK to concentrate on it soon, he's been really interested in your story and what an interesting life you've gained through it, so not only have I learnt something new but you've also given extra inspiration to a young lad along the way! Keep up the good work :-)
Thank you very much for sharing. I own a 1989 110 and I feel I have a lot to learn about 4x4 driving. If you ever come to Uruguay, know you have an old Land Rover to play with. Best regards.
Hello sir Eventhough I own a Mitsubishi I appreciate your honesty in the testing of the vehicles and I apologize for those owners that were rude to you and even the ones who threatened you.Bye for now and God bless
Thanks Andrew. What an excellent and informative video. I learned the hard way a few years ago about the Land Rover Discovery 2’s capability or rather lack thereof. 😫 I had only owned it for a week before I got Schooled. It was a very expensive class 🥴
Excellent knowledge and experience great video. I was taught when fording a river to slow just before the bank on opposite side to keep wave from coming back over hood and flooding out engine once wave hits bank and falls flat give a little power to come up bank . But Iam no expert just what I was taught

Glad it was helpful!
This was the dvd that started it all for me back in 2007 and the reason why I love 4x4s so much.
Awesome video, really loved how it shows the diverse landscape of South Africa. What an amazing place

Hands down the best tutorial video on off roading technique. I've been doing it for 25 years' but this is off road "new testament". 😀
That was a brilliant off road technical video. Your 4x4 experience is now undisputed.
This video is like a complete guide. So many useful instructions and demonstration. I appreciate it! Thanks :)
My God!!!! The tips about how to recover a vehicle if it sucks water during wading... Just brilliant!
I learned the rudiments of not breaking my 4x4 with this film back in 1999. Brings back memories. :)
Thanks Andrew. Most informative 4WD video I've ever watched.
