That is actually pretty cool!
It's honestly been an awesome addition to my car. I use the wireless Android daily of course. But I've used the RUclips app on it quite a bit while waiting for my wife in the store or whatever.
Curious to see if you can bring this box in to hotel rooms to ensure streaming on a hotel TV with that hdmi output.
Possibly, but you'd want a mouse and keyboard or home theater media remote as well

I have seen other reviews of this and it looks pretty cool but, of the ones you have tested what do you recommend? I don't know if the 4GB RAM is sufficient enough or the fact it is running Android 12. Is there a mirror/cast option? If so does it work?
So far the 4gb one has been perfectly fine for me. As I show in the video, it can even handle some decent 3d gaming.
Plus Android 12 is only one generation behind (Android 14 is out, but only on a few phones)
This one does have mirror cast and even apple airplay.
I've been using it nearly every day with wireless Android auto, and it's been great.
Can you only connect via wired carplay or can you connect via wireless carplay?
This unit is designed to be plugged into your wired USB port, that's also where it gets its power from.
But it does provide wireless carplay so you don't need to plug your phone in.
Its seems to work ok, but the icons seems a little blurry or low resolution, could be just the video. This devices are interesting but so many steps to configure abs I believe you said to delete your phone to get it to work...hmmmm
No, it looks better in person...
You don't delete your phone, you delete the phone from your car's Bluetooth settings. Otherwise when you start up your car, your phone would connect to the car, instead of the box.
It was pretty easy to setup.. and the benefits are worth it
Well done, Ed. But couldn't you just hot spot a 10 inch tablet and watch movies or play games? I have an Ioniq 5 that charges in about 20 minutes or less. By the time I take a leak, get a banana, and walk back to the car, ti's time to go. MEH.
I have an ioniq 6 that charges exactly the same way ... But often enough, charging stations are slower. Plus there's other times where something like this comes in handy. For example, a while ago I waited an hour and a half at the airport for someone I was picking up.
I watched a movie on my phone, but this would have been so much better.
