    This is my initial review of the Tentbox Cargo. The Tentbox Cargo is a roof top tent (RTT) manufactured by Tentbox Ltd in the UK.
    The Tentbox Cargo erects in less than sixty seconds and helps to take the stress and fuss out of traditional camping.

    Excellent review.Does it affect MPG on your truck when driving down the motorway by increasing drag/aerodynamics

    • @ChocChipTravels
      @ChocChipTravels  3 года назад +3

      Thank you ✌🏻😀
      In terms of drag, i could feel it when i just had the tent over the cab (like in this video). There was so much overhang at the front that you could feel it. It always felt solid and i never felt like it was going to come off though. We tested it up to 80mph and it was fine.
      However, if you look at the video i’ve made of my trip to Druridge bay, you’ll see i’ve now added a hard top canopy on the back. Now it’s much better and now i can’t feel any drag at all as the tent is further back.
      I spoke to Tentbox and they said that because the base of the tent is aluminium and strong, they said the tent could have been pushed back with more overhang at the back and i didn’t need the hard top canopy (if that makes sense?). I just didn’t feel comfortable pushing the tent that far back with that much overhang at the back, hence why we put the hard top on.
      Without the canopy on the back, there was a tiny amount of movement when sitting up in the tent. Only minor, but it did creak when moving around in there. Now we don’t have that at all as the load is spread out more across both the main cab and the hard top canopy.
      In terms of MPG, there’s a slight difference but not massively noticeable. Even when i had the original set up like in this video with more overhang, the MPG never went up too much.
      Does that help/all make sense?

    If you managed to get to Scotland, was it Midge proof ? I'm thinking of getting a roof tent but needs to be Midge proof or you would need to close the top and hold your belly inn, and the midges might not get inn.

    • @ChocChipTravels
      @ChocChipTravels  3 года назад

      Yeah the tent is midge proof providing you keep the netting doors up. We did get to Scotland but it was okay up there to be honest. We did a night up a Kielder forest with loads of midges after Scotland and it was absolutely fine 👍🏻

    I really really can't decide between the cargo or the classic for my Skoda yeti adventure plans. I want the classic for the insulation kit. I want the cargo for the awning attachment and the additional storage on top... Arrrghhh

    • @ChocChipTravels
      @ChocChipTravels  3 года назад

      Yeah that’s a tough trade off. How much cold weather camping do you think you’ll be doing?
      Apparently, they are looking at bringing out insulation for the cargo but no timescales at the moment.
      We’re looking into the diesel heater option at the moment but we need to do our research to see if it’ll work for us

    Hi Chris, how do you secure your Tentbox to your vehicle? Do you use security bolts?

    • @ChocChipTravels
      @ChocChipTravels  2 года назад +1

      Yes we bought the ones that Tentbox sell/sold which are little square ones. There are another type that look quite good that i think are called Kinmar security bolts, sometime like that

    • @ChocChipTravels
      @ChocChipTravels  3 года назад +2

      Hey Alex, yes held up in both. It's actually quite cosy in there when it's lashing down outside and blowing a gale. Everything held up well, no leaks and as long as you have the zip toggles closed down near the bottom instead of up high (to stop them jangling in the wind) then it's all good. We've slept through no problems

      andrew reid No problem at all. I was in a similar mindset and went for the tent over the camper mainly so I can see if I enjoy that type of holiday on a continual basis. A camper is a huge investment and i think you have to be committed to that “camper life” because of the money you’re spending, whereas the tent wasn’t as much of an investment if that makes sense? Just my opinion but i’m happy with our choice.
      If you do end up going for a tentbox, don’t forget to use my code and snag yourself that free down blanket. It’s an awesome little gift 👍🏻

    You said you like the height, but it looks so much smaller than the other 2 tents, lengthwise… this is putting me the cargo because I’m tall, it doesn’t look very spacious at all

    • @ChocChipTravels
      @ChocChipTravels  2 года назад

      I’ve just checked and the cargo and the classic are the exact same length on the inside at 125cm. The lite is slightly bigger at 138cm. The cargo has more height than the classic which gives you that extra headroom so I prefer that, but some people prefer the classic to the cargo. A person with a classic will prefer the classic, people with lite’s will prefer those. It’s trying to decide which works best for you pal 👍🏻

      Pretty sure they are . Bit misleading when you say they are a British company, but tents manufactured in China

    • @ChocChipTravels
      @ChocChipTravels  3 года назад

      @@eddiekelly1544 Well that depends entirely on whether you care. I personally don’t care where they’re made as it has no bearing on the experience. If the tent’s good, it’s good. If it’s bad, it’s bad. That can be China or UK made. The experience is still either positive or negative.
      If there are any issues I don’t deal with China, I deal with a British company which is what Tentbox are. It’s only misleading if you want it to be 👍🏻

      @@eddiekelly1544 thank you. In truth, when i made the video i didn’t even know that a lot of roof tents were made in China as I was completely new to it, so at the time it genuinely didn’t even know it was a thing to even mention. Saying that, even in the new updated review video I’ve just done, it wasn’t something that even registered on my radar to even mention… but like I say, I’m not sure where Tentbox get their tents from as I’ve never asked 👍🏻
