LOVE the idea of using coroplast as the top- lightweight- let's in light during the day and waterproof... So much more lightweight then other ideas I've seen out there- well done!
Great job! The use of coroplast for a rooftop tent has been on my mind for a long time. Thinking of making one without tent material and just coroplast with a 3/4 ply wood base. Best diy tent on youtube man!
Can you make an update video- a new video of your review after use. What worked, what helped, what went wrong or you would do differently. I’ve seen some diy rtt stuff but this was the first hard shell clam style I saw. I’m a contractor that works with metal and thinkin about giving it a go. But I would really appreciate if you did a follow up with your experiences using this badass thing you created. Thanks for your time!
Cool beans for sure ! I am no sower ... sowing cloth is some thing I will have to farm out to someone who can sow .. my claim shell front hinged roof top is to provide standing room under it .. front storage for clothing & other daily use items .. but the rear is for standing room ... my roof top is extremely light weight & will house my solar panel mounted to aluminum angle frame work .. & have a heavy duty aluminum piano hinge for front ... yours looks great !
Cool idea. I like the idea of coroplast as the top. I'm curious about the longevity and how it holds up long-term. Will you do like a 6 month review or something??? Would love to hear what's working well and what you'd change
Thanks. Im just about to make my first one in this style. I made a folding roof top tent a couple of years ago which is fine but i got some better ideas now after seeing your video. Like the materials you used and congrats on the finish. It looks good.
This looks so good I loved the choroplast. I am doing one very similar but I am re-purposing a two person regular camping tent. I am trying to spend as little as possible.
Man this video is big inspo & food for thought! If only I could pick your brains for a quick second for some extra insight! 😋 I wanna pull the trigger and attempt my own build, but there's some devilish details that have me some what blocked
what is better 600 denier waterproof canvas, or ripstop hax70, thinking of making a roof top tent , for my Doblo, using a 3 x 6' solar panal as roof, many thamks, and dam good vids, got lots of ideas from you
My primary critique of your tent is the lack of ventilation. Without some form of ventilation, a modern tent will become a very humid environment. For those inspired by this video, I advise including SOME form of side windows that you can close from both inside and outside the tent. better yet put the screen on a zippered panel so you can open it up and access the outer rain flap while still inside the tent so you can seal up the tent during unexpected popup showers. As a secondary recommendation, get some of those industrial plastic floor tiles that allow liquids to drain through them. This will allow air to circulate under your bed pad in whatever form it takes which will greatly reduce the ability of mold and mildew to form on the mattress Finally, while using tape for the edge seal is o.k. for a short term test of a prototype, it is a poor long term solution. aluminum edging is a much better choice in the end. alternately, you can buy fiberglass cloth and epoxy on amazon which would allow you to seal the top properly and have a much stronger shell.
Thanks, the rack I have is an Adarac Aluminum Series truck rack. It mounts to the bed rails of the truck. I think with slight modifications this type of tent could mount to most types of roof racks as long as they could support the weight.
Nice job on the whole thing, sewing skills are better than basic. Nice! I was thinking of buying a premade one but the prices seem crazy at 1500 and up.
Nice design! I was looking on building something pretty lightweight and the coroplast sheet is a great idea! Do you happen to have a rough idea on how much the whole thing weighs?
Your work is excellent and very neat. Just one question, what did you use for the base? osb type wood what thickness? thank you for sharing your beautiful work. Greetings from Argentina.
Awesome build. Finished building the frame on my build, but stuck on the fabric part. I couldn’t find it in your description or under any of the comments, could you please advise where you purchased the fabric from? I tried Amazon but the fabric doesn’t look as robust as yours. Please help.
Nicholas, Thanks for posting this, it looks great! What did you treat your 1x3's with to make them waterproof, and did you use plywood for the base? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give! Greig
Hey Greig, the best is 3/4" plywood and all of the wood sections are painted with several coats of outdoor deck paint which seems to be pretty weatherproof and durable.
Hey awesome work!! I am building myself a rooftent actually and I am in trouble with the gas springs, I have no idea of where to place them exactly to open it exactly how I want... And I don't want to make the holes and réalise that it's not well placed... What was your method?
Thanks! The hard part was getting an accurate measurement of the strut when it was compressed since I had to compress it with one hand and measure with another. It did take me two attempts so I ended up with additional holes to fill.
This is absolutely great! Am I'm planning on building something similar... Had some questions. What is the thinkness of the bottom plywood? how much does it weight? Do you recommend the corrugated plastics over the plywood? I am trying to keep it light but I off road with my vehicle so need something durable. Thank you in advance

Looks great!!

Great job that looks fantastic ,I've been wanting to make one for a long time .Thanks for all the great tips and ideas Dale
Thanks for teaching me about that living hinge . You did a good job with making it quickly & cheaply . Well done 👍
Beautiful job! Exactly what I have in mind if I ever get around to making mine. Saving this video for future reference.
great overall design!! Best/simple overview I could find on RUclips!

Good one! Simple, cheap and easy to work on. In other words it’s just unbeatable!
Should make one for the beach for summer :) this is cool

This is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for sharing
Nicely done!!!
Looks great. Zippers are hard to do....great job!
This is awesome... Thanks for sharing!
Super clean design, keeps me thinking of doing my own. thanks for sharing
Great. I really like the simplicity if it. Coroplast rocks!
Super AWESOME video ...very detailed and simplified
Thank you
Very cool, I'm quite inspired to make something similar!
Are the box edges made with 1"x3"s or 1"x4"s? And any guess on the weight?
Looks pretty good.
I’d buy that!!
Awesome vid man thanks for naming all the material used.
You did great. Been designing something similar and I like what you did with the edges of the coroplast.
InstaBlaster.
Cool idea. I like the idea of coroplast as the top. I'm curious about the longevity and how it holds up long-term. Will you do like a 6 month review or something??? Would love to hear what's working well and what you'd change
Cheap. If it fails in a few years, just replace to coroplast
Good job. I seen some other diy roof top tents and yours does look the best by far. Thank you for making the video
Thanks. Im just about to make my first one in this style. I made a folding roof top tent a couple of years ago which is fine but i got some better ideas now after seeing your video. Like the materials you used and congrats on the finish. It looks good.
Excellent build. Well thought out!
Excellent simple and innovative 😁
Simple and to the point I like it 🤘🏽good job bro
Awesome job.
That's really very nicely done, you should quite rightly feel very pleased. Subscribed.
Great job. There’s a lot I can learn from👍
Nice job, thanks for sharing
Sweet! Nice job. Gave me ideas. 👍
Such an awesome design!
Nice design, I like the lightness and looks pretty waterproof.
Love it. 😍 ตามชมและเชียร์ครับ
Good job. Nice design.
It would be more livable if you could have windows with net(mess) for ventilation on both sides.
Would you recommend Plywood verses Coroplast now that you've used it?
This looks so good I loved the choroplast. I am doing one very similar but I am re-purposing a two person regular camping tent. I am trying to spend as little as possible.
Awesome job! Congrats... It gives me some ideas to make mine. Thanks!
Good Job 👍🏻
Great work!

thumbs up and subscribed. great video brotha, thanks for sharing
Fantastic
Thing looks awesome man, good job!
Great work
Great job!
Love the use of Coroplast, I bet it lets a lot of diffuse light in during the day. Was it 4mm or 6mm, or some other thickness?
Thanks, it is 4mm thick. I got it at Home Depot in a 4'x8' sheet.
Looks a bloody good jobu done there but air movement any vents.

Thanks, the rack I have is an Adarac Aluminum Series truck rack. It mounts to the bed rails of the truck. I think with slight modifications this type of tent could mount to most types of roof racks as long as they could support the weight.
I want one !
Great job how has it stood up to the test of time
Nice job on the whole thing, sewing skills are better than basic. Nice! I was thinking of buying a premade one but the prices seem crazy at 1500 and up.
I plan on doing this but on utility trailer with a box built on. I will be able to stand up in it.
Nice design! I was looking on building something pretty lightweight and the coroplast sheet is a great idea! Do you happen to have a rough idea on how much the whole thing weighs?

Very cool
Is Black Polyhinge strong enough, do you have metal Polyhinge inside?
You haven't shown the base of it. What did you used for it's floor or base, plus mounting system.
Awesome build. Finished building the frame on my build, but stuck on the fabric part. I couldn’t find it in your description or under any of the comments, could you please advise where you purchased the fabric from? I tried Amazon but the fabric doesn’t look as robust as yours. Please help.

man, this thing is sweet! well done. how come it's less than 4x8. Did you not want to work with the standard size materials?
I imagine those zippers probably leaked a decent amount. Any updates?
I wonder how the flutes in the coroplast will react to highway speeds? I guess you could always block them off with something, if you haven’t already.
Top notch, really like this rtf. Exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks. How's it holding up????
Esta muy bueno !
Excelente trabajo !
Muy inspirador.
Pregunta, podrías mostrar cómo es la base por dentro y fuera de la tienda ?
Muchas gracias
Nice simple diy build tutorial.
Is coroplast uv worthy ?
Did you waterproof the canvas ?
Happy camping.
How many yards of canvas did you purchase? how many yards was needed for the build? Thanks you!
Love it!
What type of truck/suv is it going on?
How are you planning on mounting this to the top of your car? Good job!
Thanks. My truck has a ladder rack on top of the truck bed so I plan to use U-bolts to mount it to the rack.
looks great!, curious if you have weighed it? looking for a lightweight solution for my own build just trying to get a sense
Looks great bro but one question how do you brace it on roof rack please
Nice job! How did you attach it to the roof?
Very nice, clean build. Any thing you would do differently now that you have used it?
Thanks for posting, nice work. Can you elaborate on the sewing process....were you able to use a standard sewing machine?
Good job
Great video. Where did you purchase 33lb struts from.
Very impressive! Any chance you might have some sort of plans available?
Hey! I m building mine and i can t find some gas struts. Where did you find yours ?
Hey awesome work!! I am building myself a rooftent actually and I am in trouble with the gas springs, I have no idea of where to place them exactly to open it exactly how I want... And I don't want to make the holes and réalise that it's not well placed... What was your method?

How are you connecting the bungees mate?
Great build. How many yards of canvas did you use?
I would love to make a twin size version of this that I could tow behind an electric bike! I think it would look like yours, with less width!
This is absolutely great! Am I'm planning on building something similar... Had some questions. What is the thinkness of the bottom plywood? how much does it weight? Do you recommend the corrugated plastics over the plywood? I am trying to keep it light but I off road with my vehicle so need something durable. Thank you in advance
looks nice, hows it holding up in the weather?
Can you provide the materials and where you got them? I like the plastic top and bottom. TIA!!
Great work , man ! Can you tell me.please. what was the budget spent for this rooftent ?
How’s the tent, box, and that hinge holding up over time now?
Love it! Do your feet touch the roof close to the hinge?
Great video. You did a nice job, the fit and finish looks very quality. How'd it do in the rain, any leaks?
How does the coroplast go with UV and sunlight?
Looks great, have you used it in the rain yet?
Great build, but definitely needs some windows for ventilation
