I had traction alopecia as well. I tried growth oils for years and no growth oils worked for me. They lead to more inflammation of my scalp because my scalp is very sensitive and the essential oils in them make my scalp sore. I got fed up and decided to go to a dermatologist and they gave me kenalog shots at the appointment and minoxidil 10% to use at home. It has only been a month and those sparse areas have improved significantly. My advice is to go see a dermatologist, ladies.
If the sensitivity still persists ask your doc about Oracea. It’s a low dose antibiotic that’s used for low grade inflammation. I had shots, medicated shampoos & serums but nothing really calmed the inflammation like the oracea. I take it like every 10 days or when my scalp flares a little.
Slightly off topic but I also think bonnets with an elastic band can also cause traction alopecia, especially if you wear it every night. I would just make sure that you have the elastic band below your hairline if you have a bonnet it's kind of tight. Maybe even have some oil on your hairline just in case
Everything does! And people don’t realize sometimes it’s frequency, not tension….like that bonnet nightly is the issue, not that it’s tight. Even edge control….its not “tight” but you clogging ur pores with some stuff that say it’s gonna keep ur hair frozen for 24 hours and u wear it without washing for WEEKS…will cause damage.
When you have fine hair, you have to be careful about tension along your hairline. I have fine hair myself so I know. I don’t wear wigs or weaves, and I don’t braid my hair tight along my hairline. I don’t wear my braids in ponytails or buns until they’ve loosened up. Loose twists and wash and go’s should be her best friend right now until she grows her hair back. It’s definitely some hair loss going on, though.
I don’t think it’s a fine hair thing. I can’t wear them either and without a perm I’m a 4c girl. I can’t wear braids either nor ponytails. I just keep my own hair curled and short. All this stuff has chemicals and plastic materials added
If she likes the style so much, she could just literally buy a Glueless one where she doesn’t have to use all those products and glue and can properly take care of her hair and let it breathe because she can take it on and off, it doesn’t make sense to me .🤦🏾♀️
Nah that is balding, but not bad. My mom also has fine hair and you can wear wigs but with braids or twists, and DO NOT glue it down all the time. I have very thick hair and that happened to me when I got a cornrow crown, just use oil and moisture. BABY YOUR HAIR 🩷
I use to get braids alot and I ended up getting one small bald spot because they would braid too tight and literally rip through my hair when combing it. I have thick natural hair too. I stopped getting braids years ago and embraced my natural hair and now my hair is healthy and long. I feel like if you go to a stylist, go to a natural hair stylist who knows how to really take care of your hair not just know how to braid your hair.
Cowlicks are how your hair spirals out the scalp. If it's close to your hairline you'll have trouble parting it if the hair grows forward and you want to make a ponytail or parting it and have it lay in the direction you want. Widows peaks make a point in the middle of your hairline like a vampire.
It’s not just the protective styling. It’s the brushing if the baby hairs every day. And gelling them down everyday. Edges be extra crunchy when it’s time wash the hair.
The last time I got braids was my bday last year and even before then I wore my hair natural and in a puff ball cause rather not have tight braids every month

Thanks for sharing🤎🤎🤎
Great advice.
I have heard stories of grown man getting those shots and screaming in pain cuz they are painful

Great tip…I agree I personally don’t wear bonnets I prefer a silk scarf 🤎

Same !!! Totally agree. Fine hair is very fragile. Even a sew in that’s to heavy can cause breakage.
I didn't have her condition but I hate 2 cut a big knot out of my hair. Twist is how I grew my hair back quickly I still keep my hair in twist now.

You can get traction alopecia from glueless wigs too. If you use combs, clips, bobby pins etc. then it can definitely cause traction alopecia.
I didn’t even think about Bobby pins…wow

Thank you for clarifying 🤎
What about side “widow peaks”?
lol that’s nothing, some castor oil and rosemary oil will fix it hun. She is young. Just take your vitamins and oil your scalp
Yes she can fix it now but if she doesn’t stop by 25 she’ll deff have no edges .
Not if the follicles are damaged
If she's constantly wearing wigs she's not gonna take time 2 do that.
Depending on the scalp you’re not supposed to put oil on your scalp either that can also cause hairloss
That's right amla oil and hemp oil is non comdegeonic. Meaning it won't clog pores. @@theghostofumarskoolishere.4632

She doing it to herself
Yep 👍🏾 unfortunately 🤎
Waiting for people to come out with makeup risks. Time to love yourselves and take care of your natural self.
You can even get traction alopecia from wearing turban headwrap styles .. we have to be careful from everything
The last time I got braids was my bday last year and even before then I wore my hair natural and in a puff ball cause rather not have tight braids every month
Nah she balding 😂
Unfortunately but I think it can be reversed 🤎
My tip go natural
🤎🤎🤎🤎
Or rosemary water or oil she just needs to do some hair masks and hot oil treatments
Great tips🤎🤎🤎
@CoffeeCuties777 that's what works for me all home made no chemicals
Maybe she needs to try scalp oil daily to help
#23 like 👍🏽 made
