Color hair is high maintenance. It requires extra treatments and care. There’s a reason Cecred has so many treatments in their line. B couldn’t grow out blond hair without extensive care
I second this. I am into alternative hair colors aka pink and I have to be extra judicious with my hair care. I don’t ever use heat. I do still aim to make it healthy. I’ve definitely made mistakes along the way.
@GladToBeNatural I liked the as I am brand but I cant remember how the flaking was. For another option overtone has color depositing hair masks that wash out over time. I enjoyed overtone but it was more expensive up front
People bleach their already damaged hair and then dont take care of their bleached hair. My hair grew while it was bleached platinum blonde but I took care of my hair.
Exactly. Like you can't bleach/color your hair, do NOTHING, then cry and wonder why it's breaking off and falling out. I already had a solid hair care/maintenance regimen. I only added 1 or 2 things extra. Nothing has changed except my hair grows a little faster than usual, which is annoying because my roots need to be tou he'd up more.
I have bleached my hair since my youth. Due to my hair being a light brown and having a gray patch near my forehead. However, I have never had problems. Everyone thinks my hair is fake because it's beautiful. It comes to the middle of my back. I dye it myself, The key is that you have to use a good hydrating shampoo/conditioner. My hair bounces and swings. I get a wash/flat iron every two weeks. That's the only heat that's applied to my hair. I don't use oil on my hair. I wrap or put rollers in a night and comb it in the morning, and that's it for the day. It bounces so much that there's no need to keep combing it. I've been to many stylists, and they are always saying .. wow, your hair is so healthy to be blonde. I take my own shampoo/conditioner, combs, brush, scissors, and flat iron to all of my appointments.
I wanted to add I did it " professionally" I will say don't use "dye box" from store, it is best to see a haircolor specialist, that do " Natural hair", and see if on their instagram if they have client with long natural colored hair.
When I did blonde, my hair broke off within the week lol many years later I did red and kept it up for a year abs half and became an olaplex junkie lol and then after that I had to go back to my natural color and trimm off all the dyed pieces it’s a high maintenance thing and yeah never again lol
I have money pieces to frame my face and it’s beautiful. The rest of my hair is black. It’s nice to change your look sometimes. Just be sure to take care of your hair whether you color your hair or not. Thanks for the video my beautiful sister ❤😊🎉
I thought having locs would help me escape the breakage but my locs thinned out significantly from constantly coloring and bleaching. At first it always looks good but the maintenance and damage catches up or it takes forever for your hair to grow because the nutrients in your hair are going to repair instead of growth. I also found myself neglecting my hair to preserve the color. Now with dark hair my hair has grown so much and it looks shiny and hydrated and not thin and dry.
My friend bleached her bang(professionally done) and she literally had no hair after 2 months where the bang was🤣🤣🤣. She wore a slick back with a part in the middle with ECO gel-it took 2 years to grow back.
I recently bleached half of my hair and honestly this is a good eye opener for me! I’m really trying to focus on maintaining my length and keeping my hair moisturized.
I also dyed my hair to honey brown with dark and lovely and even though there is a difference in texture and moisture need, I am able to mantain my length. I wash and deep condition weekly and keep it moisturized. I think the issue might occur when people bleach and do not pay attention nore take care of the hair🫶🏾
I have pintura highlights that include no bleach. My hair pops with some color in it, for reference my hair is 3c/4a. I highly suggest pintura highlights if you're going to do some color. I also want to know if she's moisturizing in between.
Afro texture hair is already naturally dry and sucks up moisture. The pintura highlights seems like what kiddie perms ( layer based) were and still is ammonia or bleach. Beign or henna are really healthy.
I don't understand why some coilies want blonde hair. I never had that desire. I stood in the checkout line behind a coily in Target, who was rocking a "wash-n-struggle." Her hair was extremely damaged from bleaching. Her cuticles were completely busted open!
I bleach my hair once a year and only bleach it one time, not multiple. Then I use a temporary color like red with bond builders. Less harsh on my hair, but it is definitely high maintenance. Got to stay on those deep conditioners and make sure it stays moisturized
I would love to dye my hair red, but I'm a lazy natural with a simple, minimalist product routine. I'd try the temporary color hair goop if I really want some color. I tried it before in purple It was ok, but too messy for me. Or maybe I was doing it wrong. 🤷🏾♀️
I did "balayage "on my hair and did not suffer that much "damage" because balayage is not putting same intensity bleach on all your hair some hair are lighter other are darker, I do retouched only 1 times a year and dont use flat iron, my hair keep same behavior as when it was its natural color.... but I deep condition everytime I wash my hair and use good quality moisturiser exemple Melanin Hair care. I think you should not bleach and put color in your hair every monhts this is very damaging ........ My hair is bra strap 33cm long.
Huntys i bleached full and high maintenance is key! You gotta have that coin to thrive and survive. Olaplex and aphogee. And livingProofTriple bond complex for using heat. Yes less volume yes breakage will come if not moisturize. I love doing different colors now but yes sometimes i miss the black..but i aint going back 😂 😂 kiss 💋. O and if your lazy now you wont survive so dont try! 💅 💅
I currently have balayage highlights I got them done in October and so far so good. I mean I have to moisturize more often and use protein twice a month instead of once but my hair is actually flourishing. I think the thing is you have to keep it braided or twisted and moisturized. I also use a bond repair treatment and leave in conditioner
I use to be bleached about a year ago. It’s true about the drying part and yes my hair grew but it was always very high maintenance. Constant deep conditioning, hair masks, constantly reapplying moisture. I got tired of the bleach it looked good esp when I added a red rinse. I big chopped the bleached parts and my hair took off!
I used to dye my hair blonde to color it pink for years since I was 18. I stopped at age 33 and it's the first time my hair actually grew well and my akin cleared up. Bleach is so hard on hair. Especially black hair.
When Mary J came out I bleached my hair blond and it fell out 😂 Do what you want to do. I was young and I had parts on the side, crimps, pixie cut, wrap, dookie braids, good times.
Color fried my hair so bad I didn’t know I had curly hair until i turned 20 when I cut it😭 always thought it was naturally wavy (was dying my hair from 8th grade until college)
Natural ways to getting lightened hair would be .. lemon juice rinse… photobleaching (sun- bleached), and apple cider vinegar. I’ve experienced the the good and bad with bleaching myself… but always return to black lol
My mom and sister's hair was damaged from dye. My sister's hair is very short even with proper maintenance your hair is gonna break off. Just like relaxers break the bonds of your hair so does dye.
10 years ago I did exactly what the 1st Woman video did. It broke my hair off badly!! Its a waste of time in my opinion. Just put a clip in and call it a night 😂.
I'm growing out my hair for a few years and then I'll eventually bleach it. That being said, I'm well aware that after bleaching, I'll enjoy my hair for about a year before its time for a big chop. I love colored hair but its not easy to manage and a bog chop is usually what comes after.
I bleached my sister locks, and I promise you it damaged the hell out of my locks. It was like a little bit of hair were falling out. I have fine hair in the crevices of my car. I stopped and now my locks are fuller and.
Blonde colors you have to be on rotation to the salon. I went short and colored years ago and it didn’t work even when following home instructions it’s a lot might just invest in a few wigs
Like you can't bleach/color your hair, do NOTHING, then cry and wonder why it's breaking off and falling out. I already had a solid hair care/maintenance regimen. I only added 1 or 2 things extra (for the color). Nothing has changed except my hair grows a little faster than usual, which is annoying because my roots need to be touched up more.
The main problem is when natural’s who dye their hair continue to do the same things while using the same products. You have to use products for your color treated hair. You have to be more mindful of what your NEW hair porosity needs are. I have had red hair for over 3 years now and I get it touched up every 4 months. I stay away from products with protein because they will just dry out my hair. I stopped washing every week and with hot water. I mostly wear twists, twist outs, or stretched styles as they hold in moisture longer. I’m about 4 inches from butt length hair. So it’s possible to grow bleach hair but it takes the right products, maintenance, and a good stylist.
these are such excellent points! So would I need to just focus on shampoos for color treated hair and focus on moisturizers for conditioner and styling products?
@ I use a color safe shampoo (joico in blue bottle) along with a regular moisturizing shampoo. I follow with a conditioner but only deep condition with heat/steam once a month, as that can be drying to our color treated hair. Do not shy away from products with oils or butters. I use adwoa beauty leave in n cream. I suggest trying sample sizes in things until you find what your color treated hair likes.
My hair was color blonde by mistake it was suppose to be a copper or auburn. The blonde made my hair feel like straw it dried it out. It took about a year to get moisture back into my hair and for a color to darken it up.
I ended up loc’ing my hair because I messed up and got my natural hair dyed 😡. The chick at the salon messed my hair up. Back in the early 2000’s, stylists did not really know how to care for natural hair. I only go to salons that specialize specifically in locs and natural hair now.
My hair is doing fine though I’ve lightened it, but my hair also isn’t mega bright in the first place. It’s like a?? Light brown? Dark blonde? I could describe it as tawny. My hair is fine textured, and I never put heat in it. I also will immediately trim my hair if I see damage, and only “refreshed” my hair colour once or twice a year. I let my roots grow out heavy (i like the look lol) before redoing it. Maybe those things help?? I also don’t even really do protective styles apart from putting the front of my hair in twists or braids sometimes, though those parts are the areas with lighter hair/highlights than the rest, soo… Though I did ‘prepare’ for damage in the beginning, by dying my hair after growing like 2-3 inches from a borderline fade at the beginning of my hair journey. Since I hadn’t been growing my hair for a while at that point, I was prepared to completely cut it off if it got damaged. I’m still lazy with my hair but I decided then I liked it at all lengths anyway, so if the dye damaged my hair I wouldn’t mind. I’ve also made peace with the knowledge that hair will grow back. I no longer care about proving that to people. I’m not a corpse, therefore it grows. (Even if slowly due to anemia 😭). If I ‘need’ to cut it again, I will. I don’t mind if it gets damaged anymore due to informed risk, even though ofc I’d prefer if it didn’t. I love the idea of having long, healthy 4c hair, but not enough to stress every day about what my edges are doing, or trying to hide it under something else that emulates that look, or banning myself from colour. I used a protein mask twice in 3 years, and have been using a ‘strengthening’ conditioner? But that’s it. Maybe the conditioner is magic or something lol. My hair is uneaten.
Tbh even why yt coworkers say blonde hair is a lot. Always getting toner, cuts and trims, it’s not as hard as it is for us but they said it’s maintenance.
Second girl’s hair looks super dry. My hair looks the same way because I only ever used maybe a conditioner or not even that back when I first started doing my own hair. I had to stop washing my hair so frequently down to every two weeks and also had to make sure I used a hair mask or a good conditioner every time I washed it along with olaplex 3. My hair then transformed and hasn’t been “dry” since
Girl!! I was relaxed and blonde/honey blonde/ copper and my hair literally fell out! When Mariah Carey came out with her Honey album, I wanted her color. The stylist I went to all the time tried but my hair thinned and broke off and fell out. I called the stylist and she would not return my call. I just wanted her to fix it. I found another stylist who did an intense protein treatment that stopped the breakage. But I had to cut it into a bob. Crazy times. I went on to keep doing color up until I went natural but went to someone experienced with color. Now I just cover my gray. Not ready to go gray yet but I think I’m having a reaction to the dye so I may have to stop. But no more fun colors, blonde or anything that’s not my natural hair color (minus the gray 😂).
I color or rather cover my grays with henna. Before gray hair popped up on the scene, my hair was black root to tip. Not jet black but more like a soft black. Now with covering my grays with henna, my hair is reddish brown.
@@CoffeeCuties777 Yes! That would be great! Though limited for color options, henna is nonetheless a safe and healthy alternative for a person to dye their hair.
I recently learned my lesson… stop bleaching/dying hair. Better to use the topical hair dyes not permanent or semi permanent cause the hair damage wooio
Idk if I'd be classified as a coily haired girly but I was blonde for 2 years (only got highlights once). The biggest thing is maintaining moisture. I never experienced breakage but my ends did get dry (but that might be just a me thing) and I also was super gentle and didn't do many styles and tried not to touch my hair as often. I would wash around once a week or once every two weeks and I deep conditioned for like an hour (mostly because I'm lazy and just leave it in long) but trims are always a must too even if you do it yourself
I agree! I got my hair professionally bleached and colored in 2018 and the one thing coloring my own hair in high school taught me was that you can't do the same routine you did before the color. You HAVE to do a little extra because your hair isn't the same. So before I even got the color in the salon I made sure to buy all the additional products beforehand (heavier deep conditioners, protein treatments and leave ins). And my hair loved it and still had noticeable growth, compared to when I did it in high school and had breakage since I did have a proper routine for colored treated hair. Personally, I feel as if the color doesn't damage the hair it's the lack of care (or extra care) needed to maintain colored hair. I did weekly deep conditioning and protein treatments for the first 3 months and after switch to twice a month protein but kept the weekly deep conditioning. I also re moisturized every 3 days.
I’m not a professional but from what I’m reading going back to your natural color, having a very high maintenance routine that consists of a lot of deep conditioning (ideally from a professional), trim as you go or using temporary hair dye are the options I saw🤎
They didnt use olaplex? My stylist told me if I get color then that would be a must. That alone told me it’s high maintenance and all i wanted was something similar to the second girl.

I ended up loc’ing my hair because I messed up and got my natural hair dyed 😡. The chick at the salon messed my hair up. Back in the early 2000’s, stylists did not really know how to care for natural hair. I only go to salons that specialize specifically in locs and natural hair now.
Sorry you had to go through that but I’m happy you found stylist that works for you now 🤎🤎🤎
My hair is doing fine though I’ve lightened it, but my hair also isn’t mega bright in the first place.
I also don’t even really do protective styles apart from putting the front of my hair in twists or braids sometimes, though those parts are the areas with lighter hair/highlights than the rest, soo…
Though I did ‘prepare’ for damage in the beginning, by dying my hair after growing like 2-3 inches from a borderline fade at the beginning of my hair journey.
I’m happy to hear your hair is thriving and thanks for sharing your tips 🤎🤎🤎
I dyed my hair once and it was the Aaliyah ombré on the bang and that’s as far as I’ll go because I’m afraid my hair will fall out…
Tbh even why yt coworkers say blonde hair is a lot.
My hair then transformed and hasn’t been “dry” since
Thanks for sharing your tips🤎
@ no problem
I do want to color my hair but I'm going for a dark brown natural look just to cover my grays in only in my 30s😂
Oh wow… Mariah Carey was super blonde kinda like Latto…I had to give it up when I went natural too after my experience with relaxed hair🤎🤎🤎
I color or rather cover my grays with henna. Before gray hair popped up on the scene, my hair was black root to tip. Not jet black but more like a soft black. Now with covering my grays with henna, my hair is reddish brown.
I need to look into henna and make a video 🤎
@@CoffeeCuties777 Yes! That would be great! Though limited for color options, henna is nonetheless a safe and healthy alternative for a person to dye their hair.
I recently learned my lesson… stop bleaching/dying hair. Better to use the topical hair dyes not permanent or semi permanent cause the hair damage wooio
I dyed some of my locs a few years ago. The locs that were dyed absolutely broke off or I cut the color off. Never again never
I seen a girl on TikTok with a similar story…I’m happy your hair is back to good health 🤎🤎🤎
I say embrace the hair the MOST HIGH gave you!!!
🤎🤎🤎🤎
Where y’all mess up at is getting a relaxer you can get color without a perm
Is staying black the only choice to repair?
I’m not a professional but from what I’m reading going back to your natural color, having a very high maintenance routine that consists of a lot of deep conditioning (ideally from a professional), trim as you go or using temporary hair dye are the options I saw🤎
Being Goldilocks can't be that serious 😂
lol 😂 right
They didnt use olaplex? My stylist told me if I get color then that would be a must. That alone told me it’s high maintenance and all i wanted was something similar to the second girl.
The second girl said she did but unfortunately it didn’t work🤎
I am sorry and I don’t mean to sound condescending but I thought this was common sense… 😭 I knew bleach damages hair almost my entire life.
You’ll be surprised how many people are still unaware 🤎
uhmmmm:)
