Excellent. Very bright. Very knowledgeable. Thank you. 7 spinal surgeries. Fusion C2 thru C6/7. L4/5-S1 Fusion. Neck and Low back broken in Warehouse Accident. Chronic PAIN is terrible. Pulling. Stretching. Electrical. Pounding feelings. I have relaxed and tried Meditation. Pool Therapy. Stretching lightly. 1 mile walks. The PAIN will not subside.
once again, I find this is perfect revision for the exams... the wet lab exams require an astute and very immediate recognition of the muscles, attachments, angiology and innervation and the cervical region would have to be the most complex. Sam provides an easy explanation and elucidates the details of structures using the models - you can stare at the reference texts for hours without gaining the understanding provided here in 24 minutes. Thank you
back to SAM again to learn about neck muscles. I learn as I ache. I had a hip replacement total success and I learned about leg and hip muscles from Sam thanks
Wow, I'm glad I finally found this. I just found out I have a reverse curve in my neck. I also have constant neck pain and my SCJ is completely pronounced on my upper chest. It's all making sense now. Everything is connected.?!' I wish I would've had somebody tell me this years ago ...
Flexion use the mandible or should say 'tip if chin' to guide the movements. Extention use the tip of the nose to move the skull and folding or contraction of the nap muscles. When return to original position, breathe out and release, let the muscle tensions release and return to original position freely, then adjust with intentions. Try to use less pulling of the muscles.
Great tutorial! Do you practice somatic movements? I’m a somatic educator; pairing movements to your tutorials is so effective. Thanks for making these public.
@Sam Webster is there a visual diagram for levetor scaplae and scalene muscles that shows how they sit beside each other and which overlaps the others [specially between Scalenus Medius and levator scaplae] without sternocleidomastoid & splenius capitis spescaily at their insertion points area at the cervical transverse process
I will start out with I’m correcting my posture. I’ve had years and years of holding not only my own babies but family members babies and I remember my upper back where the cervical means the thoracic would take any time I would feed my brand new babies. Cut the 12 years later here I am with costochondritis. My upper traps feel like they are on fire most days. I’m getting conflicting answers. I’m getting that they are too tense and I need to stretch them or I’m getting answers like they are too weak and I actually need to engage them and strengthen them even though they feel like bricks! My scalene‘s on the right side typically feel irritated especially when I exhale. Yesterday I had a family member who is a massage therapist do some deep stretching on both my traps and my scalenes. Now they do feel better but I know that’s a temporary fix probably. How can I tell whether or not my muscles are sore from weakness or from overuse? I want to make sure I’m not stretching weak muscles. And whether or not I should actually be strengthening but I also don’t want to strengthen and overworked muscle if that makes sense. Do you have any suggestions?
while we r talking about "pain in the neck", don't forget inlaws as causation. though seeing them twice yearly, I contend that Inlaws actually originate in the neck area but inserted in the glut, hence the pain in the neck can radiate down to the "arse". For the longest time, marketers could not explain the correlations between turkey sales and that of aspirin at X'mases and Thanksgivings, now they can.
Thank you very much! I think there should be one correction though at 9:33: the sternocleidomastoid muscles do not bring the chin to the sternum (flexion) - they bring it away from the sternum (dorsal extension). Right?
Crud you’re correct, that is a pain in the neck. my neck is so flex at Stationæry relax Station massage plant watching TV on my stomach during COVID-19 lockdown, 57 1/2 Chinese Canadian muscle mass excellent even after my heart attack and you’re in a bit ago but I’m always working so she can lying in bed watching anything on my iPad or TV during lockdown is just so send me throbbing constant flexed of nape muscles... grrr - Awesome video thank you very much 🇨🇦♥️🌏
As a cyclist and an anatomist how do you keep pressure off your pudendal nerve and artery. I am worried about damaging the pudendal nerve and artery from sitting on the perenium and loosing funtion and sensation in my genitals.
Doubt you’ll see this … but if I want to thicken my neck (Pencil neck), which neck muscles would I need to focus on? My rear back muscles seem minimal so always thought i need to focus on the upper traps with shrugs, but maybe it’s not best focus to achieve a wider neck all round, back and sides?
Hi, what would happen to someone who tore the investing layer of cervical fascia? I think I may have done exactly that, unfortunately. Is that a big deal?
Within a year after my cervical ACDF fusion whenever I bend my head to shoulder it feels like it's screwed to tight when I lift back up, any sugestions?
I am not a native english speaker. But I adore anatomy and you are excellent, except your accent is british and also so fast that its hard for me to understand😂
Please talk about the DEADLY negative effects that root canals (teeth, gums, jaw) can cause to the entire body: eyes, nose, thyroid, brain, nerves, muscles, organs: heart, liver, kidneys, bones.

a Great thing for muscles to attach to....lets change our thinking...think of DNA research....how would or could we improve anatomical item A B or C. dont assume that everything is perfect. Lets make a body with a good immune system where we dont get infections or cancer
I want to meet you, Sam, if possible. I want to correct your body and the malalignment incurred by broken collar bone, then help you to teacher better and spread the right movements and correction exercises for the body. And most of all help suppliers to produce better ergonomic family products for daily live uses.

At 10:44, is that really the superior nuchal line. It is very low. Thanks for considering my question.

Yes. I think so, too.
false, cervical/head flexion is produced by the scm when acting bilaterally on a fixed thoracic cage
