Well done , Great advice on over winter storing dirt bikes ,drain the carb and tank . When we changed over to unleaded fuel back in the late eighties there were two bikes which could not run on unleaded Honda CB1100R and Yamaha XT500 , not sure what they were meant to use back then instead but probably unleaded super now . As far as I was aware vegetable based oils do not combat moisture on engine components and fully synthetic two stroke oils are much better in my opinion anyway . The tip on using avgas mixed in your fuel has been used successfully by classic racers for a long time , but with unleaded super as opposed to normal unleaded . Using unleaded super increases the octane rating of your fuel .
Most carburetted bikes have a fuel bowl drain screw on the side you just crack open with a screwdriver to drain the fuel in the bowl with the petcock in the off position..the 17mm hex plug at the bottom is there to mainly facilitate quick main jet replacements.
Nice video Max, very informative to heip peoples pride and joy from blowing up, it's going to be tough for the evo bikes in less you go for race gas or other additives.
Hot tip- mineral oils do not mix with alcohol/methanol. Bean oil (castor) does. I would still drain the tank and carb dry before any kind of storage after using E-10, or even run a little heavy mixed meth-free fuel through it. Another alternative is doing a full methanol conversion. Its illegal for motorcross, but other forms of racing allow it. It is just as maintenence intensive, but offers up to a 30% increase in power (with proper set-up), at the cost of increased consumption. Kits are available from various aftermarket manufacturers.
hint NEVER try to wash out a steel fuel tank with H20 when switching two stroke oil types! As a very young man I did that ONE time and destroyed the gas tank in a single day....really thought that would be fine....lol NOT!
I would say E10 for your engine, Is like ciggarets for your children. One wont kill it, but very soon you will nothest that it wont run as far as the others anymore, and there is a long range of bad side effects like cancer and engine knocking
It’s definitely worse on 2strokes than on 4strokes. It’s harder on crank seals and will turn to vapor in the bottom end before it makes it to the top end. It will also pull atmospheric moisture out of the air and it will separate leaving the bottom off your tank where the petcock is with water during storage in your bike. Then when you turn your gas on it fills the carb with water and alcohol.
I am from Holland and never ever put other fuel in my dirtbikes than Shell V power. It is zero ethanol and 98 octane. I never had issues with my YZ250, YZ450f, CRF450 and KTM SX250 bikes in the sand in severe conditions.
Simple......get your E10 fuel, add water to it, shake it up and leave it for a few hours, alcohol(ethanol) is attracted to water.....water and gas don't mix......drain water from bottom of container and you are left with straight gas, or gas that has a tiny amount of ethanol.
I’ve been using power plus 105 octane and maxima 927 in my yz144 for a fair while now, the fuel is e10 and oxygenated 3%, I’ve probably gone through about 80 to 90 litres, I did have to up jet my pilot and main jet significantly but it is an oxygenate fuel so it did need it. I’ve done countless plug checks being parinoid that I’ll melt a piston. I haven’t even changed a ring yet since the fuel change, I did notice that my bike ran colder roughly around 5 degrees because I run a temperature gauge radiator cap. I pulled my top end off last weekend, so that I could get an insert made for my vhm race head . This bike has sat in my shed for upto a month without being Started and It showed no signs of corrosion, I do block the tank breather pipe tho, overall I’m impressed with the fuel and with the right steps it can be safe for your two stroke.
That’s some good info, thanks.I’ve just purchased some powerplus 99 to use in my CR500. It’s 1% oxygenated and I was hoping not to do any jetting changes. I usually just use 95 octane with maxima 927.
@@tdog54 I’d definitely be doing plugs checks if you try it mate, the power difference, from 98 octane pump fuel to the 105 was very significant, the extra bottom power it made for my bike was really noticeable and it pulled harder the whole way up . I did try 102 power plus for a while aswell, the throttle response was abit snappier than the 105 but I like the 105 better, I’d definitely try it but you will have to re jet it. Take small steps and if it doubt plug check .
@@fullnoyz I looked at the 102NE also. Not oxygenated. I’ll defiantly throw a new plug in before I try the 99 and inspect it. I guess being a 500 Iam not looking for extra power but just consistent fuel and engine protection. I don’t ride it that much at the moment. 👍👍👍
too high octane can result in a lot of unburned fuel meaning carbon build up and eventual lowered performance if plugs foul etc...dontgo outsmarting yourself with unfounded logic
@@dougiequick1 once I used the vhm head I found the 105 to be a bit doey and fouling plugs quiet often.because I changed compression I changed back to 102 octane and it runs perfect now, a new piston changed not so long ago and there is hardly any carbon build up on top of the piston or ports and the pipe is ok too, all just trail and error but I’m happy with how the bike performs 👍
Looking at all the comments. People just buy premium fuels. Shell Vpower & esso synergy, they are e5 grade & 99 octane. Always used it don’t be tight people

yeah i never trust e10 for my quads or dirt bikes... i run e85 in my car mercedes clk200 kompressor gtom 2000. actually all my car run e85 cause cheap 0.65€/L bmw e36 318i 1995, alfa 156 2.0ts 2001 ran 100% e85 fine no tune needed started first key turn, my old mercedes w203 c200 from 2000 didnt like it that much start rought and ran like a patato but also had over 300k km and was a shit box. but my clk200 kompressor runs fine starts rough, but it runs fine after. wierd thing is mercedes clk230 1998 and 1999 start and run fine on e85. but 2000 and 2001 models have rought start... for me any car befor 2000 with 1 oxygen sensor runs great on e85 but when ever there are 2 it fuckes up the values still runs but starts are horrible, otherwise e10 95 doesnt do shit for car if you use e10 95 or e5 95/98 i mean most cars will run on 50% e85 and 50% sp95 without a problem but i dont trust e10 or e85 in carburator stuff... a quad will probaly run on e10 maybe e85 with if you jet if right but nah i stick to 95... even doh most are e5 and on rare occasions you can smell the difference between stations with sp95 some smell like good old petrol others you smell the ethanol... just anoying you can fine real 95 or 98, its all called e5...
I think it's a conspiracy to get all old bikes and old cars off the road and off the track . I have many motorcycles in my dirt bikes I always run race gas (VP PRO6) in my KX450F and VP MRXO2 in my KX125 two stroke but that stuff cost $205. For a 5 gallon tub . and I have no problem with my bikes BUT in my street bikes my Goldwing 4 carbs my Silverwing 2 carbs my CBR600F3 4 carbs all of them ran fine when I parked them but after sitting for months all the carbs are clogged and have that green film all through them from putting that E10 fuel in them😵😵😵😵😵😭 now Ill have to rebuild 12 carbs before I can ride them 😣If I took them to a shop they want $120 per carb. To clean and rebuild! An average person that doesn't turn a wrench will either give up on their bike or get raked over the coals to have them rebuilt. The it will happen again if they let their bikes sit for a few months without draining the carbs and tank since that E10 crap has a very short shelf life. Its a conspiracy to ruin our old bikes lawn mowers anything with a small engine or a carb .
Okay assuming the effort and expense went into proper engineering lets think about this....with fuel injection we ALREADY need a full time fuel pump so why not use gasoline as coolant? Engineer the fuel pump to handle both functions and use materials on fuel tank resevoirs that allow them to work as radiators...now I know what the first problem people are going to point to which is running low on fuel could mean motor will overheat ....which any years ago would be a concern but these days with onboard computer adusting fuel delivery ignition and maximum rpm per temperature points etc? When fuel gets dangerously low and or temps begin to threaten longevity? Everything gets dialed back accordingly...what the bike at that point lacks in power it is making up for perhaps in RANGE....It just seems to me that early on in a ride with full complement of fuel that motor is going to have a fantasic abilty to stay cool....no?....also for safety concerns the fuel tank could be monitored for ruptures and actually cut the ignition if that is sensed
No. Corn fuel is shit and doesn't last. It leaves a film on parts even if you drain it every time you shut the motor down. Also the octane is never consistent making tuning a frigging nightmare because you have to test the fuel and tune to every batch you get from the station. Stoic is 14.08:1 not 14.7:1. I literally see absolutely zero reason to ever shorten your life and turn your hair grey just to be able to run e10.
ITS SHITE, don’t me tight buy premium fuel, still E5, we used E10 for the first time in a trench whacker at work. It ran like shit for first 10 minutes & 100% was less power

Yeh but check the manual it tells you for sure in there.. but I believe all ktm bikes after 2000 will run on E10 but again check the manual and if you haven’t got one find it online.
@@ryanflood635 ok nice one thank you!
Buy premium fuel.
@@YoungMelz yeh. Like this guy just said. After more research it’s better to just avoid this shit and buy the premium fuel.
Yes you can.
I was told no more E5 in 5 years it will all be E10🤤
Will I be able to use it in a 2008 crf250r
you can still buy the fuel that you get now their not going to stop selling it they are just offering e10 as well as e5 you will have to look at the pump or buy premium petrol
Max How canI please get rolands number for a 2022 125 YZ for help for my young boy to buy all the parts when developed like with Bradshaw Please I looked Hard Core Racing Im in Australia lot of pressure at moment my heads not up to finding obviously I've rang number and tried

Esso Supreme+ 99 has zero ethanol in it.
yeah i never trust e10 for my quads or dirt bikes...
i run e85 in my car mercedes clk200 kompressor gtom 2000. actually all my car run e85 cause cheap 0.65€/L bmw e36 318i 1995, alfa 156 2.0ts 2001 ran 100% e85 fine no tune needed started first key turn, my old mercedes w203 c200 from 2000 didnt like it that much start rought and ran like a patato but also had over 300k km and was a shit box. but my clk200 kompressor runs fine starts rough, but it runs fine after. wierd thing is mercedes clk230 1998 and 1999 start and run fine on e85. but 2000 and 2001 models have rought start... for me any car befor 2000 with 1 oxygen sensor runs great on e85 but when ever there are 2 it fuckes up the values still runs but starts are horrible, otherwise e10 95 doesnt do shit for car if you use e10 95 or e5 95/98 i mean most cars will run on 50% e85 and 50% sp95 without a problem
but i dont trust e10 or e85 in carburator stuff... a quad will probaly run on e10 maybe e85 with if you jet if right but nah i stick to 95... even doh most are e5 and on rare occasions you can smell the difference between stations with sp95 some smell like good old petrol others you smell the ethanol... just anoying you can fine real 95 or 98, its all called e5...
Bad new for Ktm / Gas / Husky TPI then ….
No
So much of what this guy is saying is not true. If not delete, you should heavily edit this video. It is mostly his opinion being presented as fact
I was having problem with my bike now running good gas is not very good ware I live I find 90 e free and my bike runs so much better

Why don’t you learn how to ride a dirt bike
