What I want from a starting pitcher is 3 things. Good control, staying healthy, and 4 types of pitches so they can consistently get through the line up 3 times a game. Tall pitchers have to work a lot harder to meet 2 of those standards; control and staying healthy. I think control isn't as valued in the league as it should be. Stroman shows why it should be valued higher with his groundball rate and hard hit ball rate.
How and why?
@@rustyshackelford4224there’s a lot to infer here with a statement like this, which is appropriate, and you need a good background of the type of players he’s listing and mentioning. You’d have to apply your own knowledge but I understand it… anyway stroman does force the batter to make more contact on pitches he’s not expecting, because he has better control than average, which means batters should expect any 1 of stromans pitches can be thrown as a strike, nothing is strictly to fool you. So you gotta make contact anyway you can to avoid a strikeout looking. There’s some more to it but that’s the main point I’m tired of typing.
@@anthonylombardo1261 Greg Maddux style junk pitches?
@@rustyshackelford4224 well, Greg did both, he was a mind games master, and that was more than half the battle when contesting pitcher vs. batter.
Control was important when the strike zone was unrealistic. There was a deliberate move to shorten the zone in 90s. Thats why pitchers like glavine excelled
I want him to win the Cy Young so badly. He grinds so hard and would be such a win for short kings in baseball.
As a life long Blue Jays fan, ive seen Stroman at his best. I absolutely love that he does whatever it takes on the mound, to get an out. Quick pitching, altering his delivery things like that
People don’t like how cocky he is but what they don’t realize is he needs to be that way to over come his deficiencies to be as good as he is … I personally I love the confidence and honesty he brings
Watching this after his signing to the Yankees makes me so damn excited to see him in Pinstripes. I think he's going to absolutely kill in the Bronx.
He also holds the record for most blocks on twitter from an athlete
Blocking people on Twitter is fun it’s a timeline cleanse
@@seanaes not knocking it. I just know he blocks a lot of people haha
And I was one of them 🤣
Bc he's a crybaby. Anyone who doesn't spout muh slavery was the worst thing in history is blocked. He's a f@q
Pedro Martinez was only 5'10" and he did very well. You don't always need pitchers 6'2" and above to have a good rotation.
You can include Ron Guidry, Tim Lincecum, Sonny Gray and Yordano Ventura (RIP) at 5'10'' as well.
Stormans biggest issue imo (cubs fan btw) is he's on yet another losing cubs team. Feel he could be doing even better than he currently is on a better ball team.
If the gm would just extend him and put two more arms into the underperforming cubs rotation and bullpen. The cubs would be one hell of a unit
Honestly with the division they're in, I think they only need one or 2 pieces to make the playoffs. I really hope they will be buyers at the deadline, but with this ownership I doubt it...
his problem is his attitude. he pisses off every fan base he has played for
@@manuelfeliz4993 I haven’t seen any issues with the cubs fan base and I’m one of em. I love his energy and his willingness to try and get an extension to stay in cubbie blue
@@manuelfeliz4993 Not mine, I really wish the Mets would have kept him and many others do too. He is a local, made just about every start he was scheduled. Would love him over Scherzer and Verlander.
Stroman haters are funny. He’s a phenomenal player who deserves more credit than he gets. Great video, keep it up!
By far one of my favorite players rn, glad he played on my Mets wish he was with us longer
He wasn't tendered a contract because he's an asshole. Good pitcher, really bad person.
Agree. He is an LI guy. Showed up to start the games he was scheduled to, and pitched well. Unlike the mercenaries we are stuck with now.
Edit: He also seemed to want to be here. He could be near family and friends, and probably wanted to stay yet we kinda screwed the pooch.
@@Efilnikufesin76 true he wanted to be here, but the ownership showing little belief in him definitely ruined things for resigning him.
@@cartierhendrix Their mistake. Now we are stuck with former cy young winners who are too past their prime to win games.
I already liked stroman but after this video I have a new found respect for him
He is a solid MLB star. Superstar would be pushing it I think. A superstar would be Big Sexy, Cole, Otani and such.
Yeah, only people who watch baseball know who this guy is.
@@MrMalicious5okay? Only people who watch baseball know who Kyle Tucker is. Or Yordan. Or Corbin. Or Sandy. Or Luis Arraez. Or Acuña. That’s a weak ass argument/
I remember all the hype Stroman had, and I actually thought "this guy? With his size?" So credit to him for carving out a good career. I think the height of his "superstardom" was through his first year or two in the bigs, but past that I've never thought of him as a super star. Just a solid, at times inconsistent pitcher. He's having a good year this year, I'll give him that. If he wins a Cy Young, I think we can lable him a super star.
Great work on this. I know it took some time. Had never heard of this player or his story. A great example of hard work.
Marcus Stroman should be a motivational speaker after he's done with baseball
I watched Marcus close at Duke. Honestly never thought he would start in the show. Adding those pitches was absolutely necessary and I’m surprised it took that long. Big fan. Also his knee must be magic.
As a cubs fan I'm so glad we have stro
The average time out for an acl tear hasn’t been a year in a while. 6 month acl returns aren’t that rare these days
Awesome vid. Love a good underdog story
keep up the good work man, love your vids.
Love the vid man, keep it going!
That Robin “YUNT” was quite the player… oh you mean Robin YOUNT?
One of my favorite players ever
Would be interesting to see him in the AL East again. Could easily see him end up in Tampa Bay, New York, or maybe back in Toronto
And somebody that lives in Suffolk County and right by Medford I didn't even know that Marcus Stroman was one of our hometown guys LOL
Marcus and Mike growing through life is an amazing story.
are you talking about mike who pitched at duke with him
man if we could have him back in toronto..😭😭it won’t happen but damn if he goes anywhere else in the al east i’ll cry
“Marcus Strowman is undersized for every major sport except horse racing”
Bro, soccer/fútbol is literally the biggest sport in the world and bros fine
He LOOKS small when he's on the mound too. He's really fun to watch pitch.
this dude made a Josh Hamilton reference to how great someone is..........................
Fun fact! He’s actually also a music artist…. Him and his best friend mike. Got a song called these days check it out
I gotta support the shorter guys because its just cool when they can make it pro. Esp in basketball. But MLB pitcher too.
You see some short NFL players too, but mainly running backs or receivers.
Don't think I'd call him a superstar. He is very talented, and plenty of interesting stories in here I didn't know about him. But a superstar is at least a top 5 at their position or a top 15-20 pitcher. I would not put Stroman in the top 15 pitchers in baseball, even this year having a career outlier year. Very good pitcher who has overcome a lot, but not a superstar in my eyes.
I’d say the definition of superstar is even more limited than that. That’s generous. I’d say a top 10-20 player in the entire league regardless of position is a superstar.
@@pohorex6834Can we get this top 10-20, I think there are at least 25-30 players in the majors the qualify for superstardom. 😊
As a lifelong cubs fan he’s clearly the best player every time he takes the field.
Pretty bold title there
Spencer Strider is 6' tall and throws 100mph with an insane K's ratio
The only sport he wasn’t seen short is horse racing! Damn that’s harsh 😂
love the “long vids”
really hoping my giants go after him successfully at the deadline this season
Uh oh, the thumbnail has him wearing a Mets uniform. He might call you a racist.
If you're white in general he assumes you're racist. Shit, you could be albino he'd probably call you a nazi.
Pedro Martinez and Billy Wagner were 5'10" or so, and they threw super-hard. In fact, Wagner was faster than Randy Johnson.
Toronto needs to bring him back.
superstar is extremely generous
When we gonna do doug mientkiewicz?!
5:16 why is there a playoff game in April?
Currently taking 15 hours over a summer yea it is insane
And I’m not a pro athlete
You guys are getting really hung up on the term superstar. Stromans story is what makes him "super". He's obviously not Ohtani, lets all relax.
Yeah I don't get why everyone is focused on that. Not sure if it's the same across American sports but in England every player is referred to as a "star" in media. I'll agree it's dumb but why go after a random youtube video when it's a fairly common expression
MLB pitchers have become watered down almost as bad as basketball players. It's an immense talent pool loss as almost anybody below 6'2'' is fighting an uphill battle. It's a sad symptom of modern sports. The bigger and bigger athletes become the more it exposes these sports as being poorly designed. This would never go with pro leagues but reality is that we would need weight or height classes. Combat sports have long dealt with that problem and as a result many smaller athletes were able to display their talent and become superstars.
Tennis has also suffered from this as tall guys can have better reach and a better angle over the net. And even hockey, which is not nearly as affected by height has still seen a huge increase in player size. Typical hockey player has become about 6'2'' 220. That's just ridiculous. Smaller guys can still succeed cause it's a violent sport where courage matters a bit more but still, the 5'10'' star players are becoming rare.
Too bad this superstar hasn't won more than 13 games in a season, maybe this will be his year
My coworker is about 5 foot three. He is a dynamo
Alejandro Kirk has left the chat
Short pitchers are actually usually more efficient mechanically because they have shorter levers and low release heights can create good vertical approach angle
It probably doesn't apply to everyone and I'm no expert on pitching mechanics, but the 6'5"+ guys sound like they get away with worse mechanics because they just have so much leverage in that length. It's difficult to overcome that kind of advantage in a position like that though
Stroman ia closer to 5'6"
Damn I didn’t know he was only 5’7
No way an average pitcher is 6'2. When Spencer Strider got called up a bunch of people were saying he's too short to be a starter and he's 6'0. Personally, I believe that if you're a starter and you throw 99-100mph your arm will fall off. Nobody said that of course about Strider, they just talked about his height. No starter throwing that hard lasts other than Nolan Ryan. They don't. Anyways just saying I really doubt that. Btw, Marcus Stroman is a bad and angry person who is known as a clubhouse cancer. I like that he proves that judging pitchers by height is way dumb. But he's a dick. I personally believe judging any baseball player by height is stupid, and we all know scouts do this assuming big and tall players either have pop/can throw hard and that shorter players just can't. Which is dumb. Strength affects strength, not height. Baseball can be so dumb sometimes.
Are you doubting the claim by the video, or the stat in general? Because a quick search will lead you to find multiple sources collating data on MLB pitchers to find the average to be 6'2 1/2" with a range from 5'7" to 6'11". Even across every position in the game the greatest distribution of players is 6'2, with 6-6'4" being about one standard deviation. Pitchers are slightly the tallest average of any position as well.
One of them doesn't make any sense. Cause 2 inches bekow average shouldn't make you short. So idk, somebody's wrong. It's all dumb anyways. The reason why there are more short lefty pitchers is cause short righties don't even get a chance. It's dumb. Baseball scouts focus way too much on height anyway. Only position where being tall really is a big advantage is first base, otherwise who cares about size as long as they play well.
@madethecut must be like 4 foot tall
Jose Ramirez would’ve been a better example
Stroman attacked the mets and the blue jays for being "Racist" when they didn't resign him. It's his attitude that makes him so unlikeable.
Pedro Martinez
These teams will continue to draft tall lanky pitchers for the advantage and those pitchers will continually be injured and require work on the throwing arm. That type of body can’t withstand the aggressive pitching motion. Glasnow, DeGrom, Chris sale all lanky pitchers who are always injured or have received tommy John surgery. In my opinion there is a reason tommy John surgery is so prevalent now. And that’s bc teams keep picking those types of pitcher. As an Astros fan we’ve been waiting for forrest whitely to make a debut or be worth the hype. He is always injured. And the way it looks he will never be a consistent mlb pitcher.
Is this guy SkapAttack?
Russell Wilson
Marcus gets a lot of hate cause he can get under your favorite players skin. Say what you want about him he’s an ACE when he’s dominant
He's buns
I was disappointed that the Mets let him go. Especially with the absolute shit show their pitching was in the 2023
career 3.64 era and hes a "superstar"😂😂
Them: "pitchers under 6 feet aren't effective"
Pedro Martinez: "bet"
Yes please say good things about Josh Hamilton instead of choosing any of the thousands of other promising athletes. He's only the world champion in domestic abuse and clearly deserves praise for that accomplishment.
Superstars aren’t supposed to suck 🤔🤔🤔
lol @ "superstar"
Pedro had to be 5'5"
?
I thought he was 5'11
@@diegojaime1565 that’s what google told you. Yes. He looks nothing like that on the mound.
What happened to all your videos?
lol he ain't no superstar. he's good. and when he on he's lights out. superstars are always on, though. let's see him put together 3 consecutive seasons of an ERA+ over 140 while throwing at least 200 innings. then we can talk about him being a superstar. right now he's a just a highly valued arm. he's no Kershaw, Verlander, Scherzer, Stras, DeGrom, or Cole. but if he can age like Verlander and Scherzer have, he's still got time.
8:26 he didn’t get called up to Toronto on May 3rd. He was called up BY Toronto but they were on the road in Pittsburg. Source: me. I was there for it.

Wait a minute. Have you seen Leflop warm up lately. He’s ruining his legacy. He’s should of retired 2 year ago. But no he’s holding the lakers down. He’s not a superstar anymore.
How to let RUclips know you’re a hater😂. Dude literally led a garbage lakers team to a playoff run they weren’t even supposed to be in. Oh he’s 38 btw😂
The most unlikely superstar is tim lincecum
I just can't wrap my head around you labeling Stroman a "Superstar"...
Guy is closer to 5.9 he keeps getting shorter every year
Lol so just anyone can be a superstar nowadays? Does that mean I’m one too?
Marcus Stroman is just not a superstar, I think you did a video on the wrong pitcher or wrong video title. He's a good pitcher having a phenomenal season, but he's far from a superstar. If this was done on Jose Altuve it would make much more sense.
@@smithnosebar Just a man speakin his mind
I agree with you man.
As an Astros fan, I’m not sure whether or not to interpret the Altuve comment as a compliment or not.
I'd say the one player closer in size to Stroman that became a superstar, and eventual HOF'er, was Joe Morgan.
@@Crunkboy415Why do you say this?
But like, Stros not that good.... had one good season and mediocre to not great seasons since. This year is a test year with the new pitch clock so we'll have to see how he performs next year and after.
Superstar?! No. He's a good/very good pitcher. That is not superstar status
But he is a superstar...in life! 🤣
Casual
He’s literally a cy young candidate right now. I think he’s leading the league in quality starts and has a 2.88 ERA with a near 1 WHIP.
@@SadBearsFan33doesn’t mean he’s a superstar. He’s just a star player. A superstar is consistently a top 10 player in the MLB. Stroman, even if he wins cy young this year, would be in the late 20s at best
@@pohorex6834 a superstar isn’t always a top 10 player. Especially in the MLB with so much star power. Are we gonna say that Cole isn’t a superstar? Or Shane McClanahan?
Uses Marcus Stroman…makes no mention of Billy Wagner
That's a man.
Stroman is NOT a superstar pitcher wtf
great pitcher no doubt but he's not a superstar
Superstar??? Marcus Stroman???? I was subbed until that. No self respect in sports channel would ever call Marcus Stroman a superstar. Wow lmao
He made it to the show. Not a superstar
No. A slightly above average pitcher does not equal a “superstar”.
Stroman is far from a "superstar". He's a solid pitcher, a bit above average
Calling stroman a superstar is such clickbait
Too bad he’s a racist and trash talks fanbases.
Great story, very good pitcher, but he's not a superstar. He's not even a star.
Yes superstar might not be true but it’s even more baffling to say he’s not a star
@@zachhirschler I guess we have different ideas of stars. 2 all-star game appearances (1 because the team had to have an all-star), 1 top 10 CYA finish (#8), no league lead in any meaningful categories. To me he's a good player, but that doesn't make him a star. This year he is pitching like a star, but for me that's not enough to be labeled a star.
NOT A SUPERSTAR
I hate when those videos just tell me the pounds and inches. I always have to fucking pause the video to translate those figures to a measurement that actually makes sense. Could you just add a simple conversion in the video for the audience in the rest of the world?
Thought he was cool until muh slavery....
Well the Cardinals sure beat the hell out of your Superstar a couple days ago. Superstar dude you're tripping
Horrible attitude, he always plays the race card
