I was super strict in the beginning. I started at 157 and lost almost all of the weight in 3-4 months. I used myfitnesspal. I don't have cheat days or carb ups. I do intermittent fasting. I used a glucometer often. I still watch all the videos and do research to keep on track and learn new things. I find it super easy and can always find something to eat when I am out with friends. My family is not on keto and I cook for them daily. I watch for recipes on youtube and pinterest. There is tons of info out there. I love these guys because they are not selling anything. Also - I would stay away from exogenous ketones, you don't need them and they seem to be a huge waste of money. Keep it natural and it will happen. Good luck! :)

So glad you took the time to research this topic and good to know that I'm doing the right eating style with my version of keto...I raised the protein to 120 gram..lowered the fats to 75 gram and keep carbs the same, at 20 net. I feel so much better and my sleep has immediately improved..I am a type 2 so I also check my glucose 2-3 times a day and have seen no impact from the doubled protein. Plus, I've dropped 2 pounds in 5 days...which is huge for me for these reasons..1) post menopausal 2) Hypothyroid for 25 years 3)diabetic...so glad to finally really believe that all that protein I eat is not becoming chocolate cake in my belly !

Thanks for talking about this. It has been SO frustrating reading about this for 2 years now and nobody could ever say "how much is too much." My style of keto is higher protein than fat - I just don't feel the need to add fat to everything for no good reason and calories still matter at the end of the day, and I'd rather get them from protein. But that's me - everyone is different. I wish more people would understand that the only thing that matters about keto is the name itself! Ketogenic - that which puts you in a state of ketosis (restricted carbs).

Dr. Mercola and Dr Berg say if anyone eats one gram over 70 grams of protein a day, they will become full blown insulin resistant and diabetic. And also if you eat a crap load of meat, lets say 200g of protein worth of meat. Thats about 500g of meat. That is not easy to eat, not easy to digest. It takes a few hours to digest. So protein in the blood stream will not spike really.
Plus is ever your body starts to convert protein for energy, like Matt said, it is so not efficient, so much wasted energy to convert it to glucose, the funny thing is, your body will use fat for energy to produce glucose. Because you can run on ketones to produce glucose from protein.
My basis of too much protein is when your lower back hurts even of you don't lift. Kidneys are starting to have protein buildup. But again it's not easy. When I did atkins, I was eating about 3g per lb of lean body weight.I didn't feel any kidney pains.Actually it's hard to eat 495g of protein every day.

She’s the strictest form of keto I’ve seen, but she has a ton of real life experiences showing how excess protein under certain biological conditions can knock you out of keto. Sounds like you guys were completely disregarding her info, and that’s a shame because some of your viewers might value that information. Real life experiences show more than ‘controlled studies’.

  • @alphacause
    @alphacause 6 лет назад +18

I have been on a low carb diet for over two years now, and I have heard a lot about gluconeogenesis. So I was familiar with the concept. Your presentation here was pretty informative, and really exposed me to some information concerning gluconeogenesis that I have not heard before - particularly the idea that the rate of gluconeogenesis is NOT primarily determined by an increase in protein intake, and it is instead a fixed process that is determined by the body's need for glucose, independent of the size of protein input. Thank you for that valuable piece of information. With that said, protein consumption is ultimately, as you stated, an individualized thing. There are no universally applicable rules. In doing my low carb diet/intermittent fasting, I regularly consume anywhere between 90 to 150 grams of protein a day, which is pretty high, and yet I was able to lose over 95 lbs - going from an obese man at 230 lbs, at a short height of 5'6", to a slender 135 lbs. Fluctuations in protein intake did not make much of a difference in my weight loss progress during this time. The only time that I would cause weight loss stalls was when there was an increase intake in carbohydrate.

great video, pretty much what Tristan on Primal Edge Health channel said. Even cited some research on folks that were on diets that utilize very high protein that stay in deep ketosis.
I can't get enough protein. I'll 3-4 eggs avocado breakfast, big chicken salad with balsamic dressing lunch and have a 1lb steak with spinach mushrooms and salad for dinner.
Biggest problem for folks who want to drop weight consume too much fat and not enough protein. keto weight loss is meant to get primary fat source from the body rather than dietary. dietary puts you into ketosis, managing macros is what forces the keto process to get most of it's fuel from the body fat storage.

Protein needs for an average person: 0.8 grams per kilogram body weight (not pound of body weight). Athletes and people needing more (ie: burn victims, wound healing): yes, then use 1.0 to 1.5 g/kg body wt.
Just be careful. Using the wrong formula (using body weight in pounds versus kilograms) will triple your protein intake. I'm not sure this could be safe for extended periods of time. Use the right formula.

This is super helpful! Makes keto seem a bit more flexible since each meal doesn't have to be even in protein amount for correct glucose production! Awesome!

Hey yall!.. This Science is right on time for me. I been hitting the weights pretty hard to try and put on little mass while doing Keto. Did a little research, and decided to up my calories & my protein just a bit,(70F,25P, 5C). but only having my higher protein meal after my workout. Seeing good results from this method. Thanks for breaking down the science.. And Keep Rocking the (313) Detroit Shirts!.. My city.!...

Love you guys you have great info and FOOD lol. I just weighed myself for the first time in over a month and WOW. I have to say when I started keto about 3 months ago I weighed 291lbs ALMOST 300lbs and when I got on the scale I weighed 245lbs. That's 45 lbs I just have 15 more lbs to go to reach my first goal then on to the second goal. Thank you guys for all the great meal ideas and everything.. you guys are AWESOME. 🤗🤘🖒👏

Great to know I can eat the amount of protein my body craves without effecting my ketosis. Not a huge fan of cheese, butter or oils all the time so this is great!

OMG, thank you! I love you guys SO much! You've been hugely helpful to me and I feel I can trust what you say because you're researchers like me and don't mind sharing your sources. I started low carb eating 6 months ago and I have lost 20 lbs so far but I have a long ways to go. I am thinking about going all the way keto (90% of the food I eat is Keto approved) because I feel like I have already plateaued.

I feel much more satisfied with higher protein. I notice on yhe days i eat more protein i don't have near as many cravings. It is as important to my success as fat intake. That is what i have learned about myself.

I love you guys! Thank you so much for every video you make! I have been on Keto for over 8 months. I have lost 100 lbs. However, I did this at 30 carbs per day. Mind you the first six weeks I kept to 20 carbs or below. Never lost a pound. Once I did a test week of 30 to 31 carbs a day, I lost 5 pounds that week. I have no idea why it is this way. The point of this information is to test everything yourself. Listen to your body. You will find out what best works for you. Keep up the awesome video and recipes guys!!

This is a topic I'm quite interested in, so I'm glad to see you cover it. As far as I can tell it seems like people eating a high protein, high fat, no carb diet like the carnivore diet are in ketosis and getting all the associated benefits. I personally never stressed about how much protein I eat, it's usually only slightly less than my fat intake and it hasn't negatively affected me.
