You just committed GLUCONEOGENOCIDE!
lmfao! love you guys!
Dead! 😂
Rofl!
Not really funny, and I'm not a PC fanatic.
haha, perhaps not a "PC fanatic", but definitely a wuss
The opening skit was so corny it kicked me out of ketosis xD
Lolol. These two are cornballs but they're cool beans.
Oh no! I'm eating to much protein! LOL!
Mm corn balls and beans
Thank you for this! I have lost 124 lbs in 10 months eating 120g protein, 78g fat and less than 21g carb per day.
Congratulations
What were your macros exactly?
@@m_v5460
Same as yours. 119 protien, 79 fat, 20 carbs.
That’s a severely calorie-restricted diet (under 1300 cals/day)
@@j.rob.5943
Not if he's burning body fat.
I've been at keto for almost two years. I stopped counting cals and macros. I eat nutritious food and use whole food supplements. I have been at 124 lbs steadily (5"5") and listen to my body and it seems to be working just fine. I feel great, I sleep great, I look figgin awesome. I think after enough time you just know what to do. Thanks!!!
I'm 5'5" and my goal weight in 120. Right now I am 135. How long did it take for you to get to that weight on keto?
Love you
I was super strict in the beginning. I started at 157 and lost almost all of the weight in 3-4 months. I used myfitnesspal. I don't have cheat days or carb ups. I do intermittent fasting. I used a glucometer often. I still watch all the videos and do research to keep on track and learn new things. I find it super easy and can always find something to eat when I am out with friends. My family is not on keto and I cook for them daily. I watch for recipes on youtube and pinterest. There is tons of info out there. I love these guys because they are not selling anything. Also - I would stay away from exogenous ketones, you don't need them and they seem to be a huge waste of money. Keep it natural and it will happen. Good luck! :)
did you just say 'i look freaken awesome' ..
nopochki awesome right!
Yeah I think people don't realize if you fall a bit short on your daily requirement or you go over a bit it's no big deal, it won't do anything.
Its what you do the majority of the time that has biggest effect. Putting on weight is a prime example!!
I wish I would have watched this video sooner. I was chowing on a delicious rotisserie chicken earlier and stopped myself because I thought I was eating too much protein LoL! Love you two 😊
Glad you did this video, I was so confused by the whole too much protein thing because almost everything has protein in it.
Natalie de jesus I too likes the info in this video as well ....
So glad you took the time to research this topic and good to know that I'm doing the right eating style with my version of keto...I raised the protein to 120 gram..lowered the fats to 75 gram and keep carbs the same, at 20 net. I feel so much better and my sleep has immediately improved..I am a type 2 so I also check my glucose 2-3 times a day and have seen no impact from the doubled protein. Plus, I've dropped 2 pounds in 5 days...which is huge for me for these reasons..1) post menopausal 2) Hypothyroid for 25 years 3)diabetic...so glad to finally really believe that all that protein I eat is not becoming chocolate cake in my belly !
Hi Melinda hope your well. Check out dr jason Fung and intermittent fasting for type 2 diabetes. Amazing
Thanks for talking about this. It has been SO frustrating reading about this for 2 years now and nobody could ever say "how much is too much." My style of keto is higher protein than fat - I just don't feel the need to add fat to everything for no good reason and calories still matter at the end of the day, and I'd rather get them from protein. But that's me - everyone is different. I wish more people would understand that the only thing that matters about keto is the name itself! Ketogenic - that which puts you in a state of ketosis (restricted carbs).
One of the targets was lowering insulin.. protein spike insulin.. (that's all)
If you care only for ketones, don't be afraid of protein..
I'm higher protien.cause I'm more full
I have admired the consistent quality of the information you pass on. It's very generous of you to do so and much appreciated. This 'GNG' was a revelation.
I completely agreed with your findings. If I want to eat a large steak I will. If I limit my protein too much I feel hungry. My carb count is the only thing i worry about going over. Fat and protein may change depending on what sounds good. Great video. Thanks.
Dr. Mercola and Dr Berg say if anyone eats one gram over 70 grams of protein a day, they will become full blown insulin resistant and diabetic. I think it would be wise to follow their advice over Keto Connect due to the fact they have such a large following and they backup everything they say with science. /sarcasm
I think Dr.Berg is just saying the from his personal experience. After all it all depends on each person body so unless you have some medical problems, you shouldn't be too strict and listen to your body
And I recall that Dr. Berg said the per day consumption of protein is your body weight in lbs times 0.36 to 0.7? So assuming you're 140 lbs 140x0.7 equals 98 grams, what? I'm confused
@@pam0077 I think Dr.Berg's protein formula is way too low.
I eat loads of protein and I'm still constantly in ketosis. I look pretty muscular and good. 😊😊
Lot's of youtube science in this one, but check out the links in the description if you want to do more research for yourself(and you should because we're random people on youtube). There's a couple of really good articles on this topic.
so random....
This is one of my favorite videos tbh. There is so much broscience, half truths and straight up crap floating around, it's really nice to get some facts on this topic. Thanks a lot guys, keep up the good work!
I chuckled to myself when I read this part " because we're random people on youtube)." Love you two. In a noncreepy way of course. lol
And also if you eat a crap load of meat, lets say 200g of protein worth of meat. Thats about 500g of meat. That is not easy to eat, not easy to digest. It takes a few hours to digest. So protein in the blood stream will not spike really.
Plus is ever your body starts to convert protein for energy, like Matt said, it is so not efficient, so much wasted energy to convert it to glucose, the funny thing is, your body will use fat for energy to produce glucose. Because you can run on ketones to produce glucose from protein.
My basis of too much protein is when your lower back hurts even of you don't lift. Kidneys are starting to have protein buildup. But again it's not easy. When I did atkins, I was eating about 3g per lb of lean body weight.I didn't feel any kidney pains.Actually it's hard to eat 495g of protein every day.
Have you guys heard of Stephanie Keto Person? She’s the strictest form of keto I’ve seen, but she has a ton of real life experiences showing how excess protein under certain biological conditions can knock you out of keto. Sounds like you guys were completely disregarding her info, and that’s a shame because some of your viewers might value that information. Real life experiences show more than ‘controlled studies’.
I have been on a low carb diet for over two years now, and I have heard a lot about gluconeogenesis. So I was familiar with the concept. Your presentation here was pretty informative, and really exposed me to some information concerning gluconeogenesis that I have not heard before - particularly the idea that the rate of gluconeogenesis is NOT primarily determined by an increase in protein intake, and it is instead a fixed process that is determined by the body's need for glucose, independent of the size of protein input. Thank you for that valuable piece of information. With that said, protein consumption is ultimately, as you stated, an individualized thing. There are no universally applicable rules. In doing my low carb diet/intermittent fasting, I regularly consume anywhere between 90 to 150 grams of protein a day, which is pretty high, and yet I was able to lose over 95 lbs - going from an obese man at 230 lbs, at a short height of 5'6", to a slender 135 lbs. Fluctuations in protein intake did not make much of a difference in my weight loss progress during this time. The only time that I would cause weight loss stalls was when there was an increase intake in carbohydrate.
Good info, do you think cancer cells would tell body to produce more glucose?
@@xikefocus I am not aware of cancer cells signaling the body to produce more glucose. If that were the case, ketogenic diets, used in the treatment of by the likes of Dr. Thomas Seyfried, would be ineffective.
@@alphacauseNew research from Vanderbilt Medical school says that the immune cells within the tumor are actually the ones use a lot of glucose, the cancer cell use glutamine a lot though.
Really glad I found this early on in my keto journey. I've been stressing out over protein levels probably just as much as carbs and now I can let go a little bit more. I'll still watch how much I eat, but now I won't jump through hurdles to try and get a certain amount.
I was wondering about this. Thanks for taking the time to research this. Love you guys
Another Detroit shirt. Love it.
You folks are by far the most entertaining keto channel!
Thank you for adding your voices to those already out there! Even Profs Phinney and Volek themselves said ketosis isn't driven by presence of fat, but by absence of carbs. And if you look at Ted Naiman or Vince Gironda, both have been (or still are) on a higher protein ketogenic diet and were/are ripped as heck.
THANK YOU!!! I literally just started Keto a month ago and I ended up eating much more protein than I meant to and immediately hit the internet to see how gluconeogenesis works. Your links were wonderfully helpful.
Thank you for this video! I'm so sick of some keto groups making people have fear of eating high amounts of protein.
A keto newbie here, in my second week. I truly enjoy your videos and want to thank you for looking at research and all your other videos. Blessings to you both.
I love how you guys test stuff and help answer the questions EVERYONE hears. So much info and so many people saying DON'T DO IT! But not a lot of science given or explanations.
If gluconeogenesis on keto ,low carb, were true, that means people on the carnivore diet should be gaining so much weight and I don't see that happening.
There is still a vast reduction in calories and inflammation because of the lack of carbs which pointedly aggravate hunger and make us eat a lot more when on carnivore diet.
Not necessarily. Just because they eat only animal sources doesn't mean they are eating excessive protein (although a lot of carnivore followers do). They could quite easily eat a moderate amount and then eat fat/add butter for calories.
I've been trying to get into keto for 2 weeks now and im still not in it. My carbs never went above 10g a day... but my protein was always 200g daily. Thats what i think was the problem, gluconeogenesis
Just because your blood sugar goes up doesn't mean you are going to gain weight. Type 1 diabetics can have super high blood sugar levels & be emaciated.
@@matttzzz2 This has already been proven false.
great video, pretty much what Tristan on Primal Edge Health channel said. Even cited some research on folks that were on diets that utilize very high protein that stay in deep ketosis.
I can't get enough protein. I'll 3-4 eggs avocado breakfast, big chicken salad with balsamic dressing lunch and have a 1lb steak with spinach mushrooms and salad for dinner.
Biggest problem for folks who want to drop weight consume too much fat and not enough protein. keto weight loss is meant to get primary fat source from the body rather than dietary. dietary puts you into ketosis, managing macros is what forces the keto process to get most of it's fuel from the body fat storage.
That acting tho.. LOL
Don't give up your day job, guys :)
I like the editing in the video, it adds humor to a dry topic. Good job guys.
So happy you did this video! I was worried I might be eating too much protein so I have been experimenting to see what works best for me. Thanks! 😉
Thanks Megha and Matt for researching this topic! Love listening to you two!!
This is up there with the best info you have shared ever for me. I'm so bored of worrying about macros but can't give up my love of keto eating. Now I'm free to eat my keto food but only consider net carb. This is a way of life that I can cope with - much thanks and love to you both xx
I’m new to Keto and the way you two explain things really are helping me understand how it all works. Thank you for the effort you put into these videos!
2:05 that KEY TAKEAWAY tho
GlucoNeonGenesis Evangelion . . . perhaps not the most popular anime idea in the world, but one must dream.
What, they fight giant sugar cubes instead of angels?
Thank you so much guys! I really appreciate all of the work you two do to help the Keto community..
Thank you so much! Love you guys even more now! That says it all and puts it into perspective while keeping us entertained! Can't ask for more than that! 👍😊❤️
Everytime something happens to me, on that day. You guys are always here to answer why. I tell you. You must be the friends I've looked for my ENTIRE LIFE!!! Your the smartest ppl I've ever come across. So damn glad i found you guys!!! I love everything you guys stand for. Thank you.💓💕💖💞❤💗😘
I'm a 61 yr. old woman that has over 100 pounds to lose. Hereing about keto diet peaked my interest. I have watched so many RUclips videos the past month or so. I kelp coming back to your to get the advise. You two have so much informations for this it encouraged me to start as of last Friday. I think if people wanting to learn how, what, why and where to start, it's with you guys. I have stopped jumping around for my information, I just sticking with you guys. I highly suggest others do the same. Now that's not to say I don't look for other recipes. You two are great together, thanks for sharing your life with us. Also, congratulations on the baby coming..keep us up to date when the special bundle arrives.
I learned about Keto when my granddaughter was put on Keto for her seizures! This video is amazing. Full of great information!
Thank you for your research, experimentation and interpertation on this subject.
Raged at the title but I'm glad you didn't perpetuate the myth that some extra protein turns into sugar. Hope more people on Keto start to understand what gng actually is.
TaxerTheTyrant it was a great video... I love these guys.... listen to them while I work around the house... great info all the time
TaxerTheTyrant
GNG is simply how “glucose is made in your body” when in Ketosis when on a Ketogenic diets.
And that you don’t have to subsist in Carbohydrates, and Sugar , and and especially HFCS, the absolute worst artificial sweetener that is used as a direct replacement for table sugar in the USA.
The addition of HFCS in all commercial products, is likely the first cause of Fatty Liver, insulin resistance, and diabetes. (In that order)
This video saved me from quitting Keto diet thanks you guys!!! I’m definitely continuing and eating my prime rib this evening
Thank you for clearing up the confusion in an easily digestible fashion.
Very excellent video guys. Thanks for doing the leg work. You have really helped me out. Been on the keto diet for a month and you make me excited about doing it. Love the cook book also. Big thumbs up to both of you.
Hi...I am 75 & started Keto just over 4 weeks ago for inflammation which has helped but it’s my weight that has been the biggest surprise to me !! I have not seen this weight for years & soon must find a way to maintain Keto. Your videos have helped a lot...their fun, entertaining & very informative. I am sure when I am serious about maintaining I will find a video on your channel. Thank you both for ALL your hard work...my husband of over 55 years is very supportive but not completely on our same page but I still have hopes for him :-)
OMG! Thank you so much! I noticed I do better with weight loss when I eat a lot of protein, but I kept hearing it would turn to sugar . It's made it tough to figure out what to eat .
Great video - Yea I was wondering the same, what is excess? But like you two mention, it is vague and shouldn't really worry about it. Thank you for doing the research with this
Protein needs for an average person: 0.8 grams per kilogram body weight (not pound of body weight). Athletes and people needing more (ie: burn victims, wound healing): yes, then use 1.0 to 1.5 g/kg body wt.
Just be careful. Using the wrong formula (using body weight in pounds versus kilograms) will triple your protein intake. I'm not sure this could be safe for extended periods of time. Use the right formula.
Happy to see this video!! I eat WAY more protein than my macros say I "should" but I just listen to my body. When I first started keto I definitely felt the tired muscle thing and since eating more protein that suggested, I don't get it anymore. So I figure my body wants/needs more than what is suggested.
OMG I loved the skit at the beginning, you should do that more often!
I was so worried about the chocolate cake/protein dilemma. Lol.
Thanks for clearing this up. I seem to do well on moderate protein and a little more veggies. Good video.
Really appreciate this video. I read so many articles about too much protein that I was worried about gluconeogenis. I cut back so much that I was getting only about 50 to 60 grams instead of the 100 grams my macros suggests. I lost 50 lbs in the first 5 month when I was eating more protein. Since I started eating less, I have stalled and seem to drop weight only when I increase my protein. Thanks for the good simple explanation of how this works in keto. This moderate protein thing is blown out of proportion.
I love you guys! Just found you, and have become an instant fan!
finally, somebody made an thoroughly explanation on this matter. i was kinda worried about this whole gluconeogenesis thing
You kids are great! This video has needed to be made for a long, long time! Thanks so much for explaining this! Merry Christmas! :)
Love this video. So many people over think keto. And then now so many are doing it. A lot of mis information is being put out. I love you videos and I continually send people to your site for good information
This is super helpful! Makes keto seem a bit more flexible since each meal doesn't have to be even in protein amount for correct glucose production! Awesome!
Hey yall!.. This Science is right on time for me. I been hitting the weights pretty hard to try and put on little mass while doing Keto. Did a little research, and decided to up my calories & my protein just a bit,(70F,25P, 5C). but only having my higher protein meal after my workout. Seeing good results from this method. Thanks for breaking down the science.. And Keep Rocking the (313) Detroit Shirts!.. My city.!...
I love that you guys do your homework ..... great videos
Oui!!! And yep I have been asking/thinking/testing for the same thing. Thanks for this video, informative as always. :D I loved the dry humor in this video. So many burns. SO MANY BURNS!!!!
🙌🏾 thanks this has always been my issues on this keto diet I️ actually be very hungry after meals trying to keep protein low
Protein can only benefit you.
Xenina In California thanks i been doing that it’s very helpful
I just started keto and you guys are basically the best.
Great video well explained as always. Great job guys ! And thanks you.
Thanks guys! I love your research and helpfulness. Blessings.
Thank you very much. I've wondered about this topic. Have a great day
Thank you for clarifying this!!! I was so frustrated with what "excess protein " really meant!
This was great, thanks for creating this!
Thanks for the info as always 😊
Thank you for talking about this! I am new to Keto and am fixated on getting all the percentages and grams right! Now I think about calming down a little.
Love you guys, making my keto life a lot easier
To much protein instantly turns into chocolate cake inside your body.....literally dying 😂
LOL!
Thank you SOOOOO MUCH!!! This was drivin me cray cray!!! Great work!!
Thanks for clarifying this!
Thank you! As a diabetic on keto I have constantly worried about this.
This is so helpful! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
Glad I waited and watched the entire video before commenting 🤣 good stuff!
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS. THANK YOU!
Love you guys you have great info and FOOD lol. I just weighed myself for the first time in over a month and WOW. I have to say when I started keto about 3 months ago I weighed 291lbs ALMOST 300lbs and when I got on the scale I weighed 245lbs. That's 45 lbs I just have 15 more lbs to go to reach my first goal then on to the second goal. Thank you guys for all the great meal ideas and everything.. you guys are AWESOME. 🤗🤘🖒👏
Great video. This always confused me. Still does but I feel like this makes a bit more sense.
Thanks for explaining this guys. Good to not have to stress over protein intake.
Thanks, great video.
Carol
took me a almost a week to figure out what was wrong with my diet, and it was this!
Many, if not most, other big keto-RUclipsrs get this wrong
Thank you for clearing that up! Makes since
Thanks for the information I was worried about eating to much protein when I'm counting my macros now I can relax when I eat chicken.
Great to know I can eat the amount of protein my body craves without effecting my ketosis. Not a huge fan of cheese, butter or oils all the time so this is great!
You guys nailed this one :) those of us that teach science base keto have been saying the same thing for years :)
Thank you so much for this information!!! New on keto, protein is the only thing that make me feel full and better.
Thanks for keeping it so simple.
Your videos always make me smile. Thx 😊
OMG, thank you! I love you guys SO much! You've been hugely helpful to me and I feel I can trust what you say because you're researchers like me and don't mind sharing your sources. I started low carb eating 6 months ago and I have lost 20 lbs so far but I have a long ways to go. I am thinking about going all the way keto (90% of the food I eat is Keto approved) because I feel like I have already plateaued.
When you first said G & G I thought of work. Grab and Go salads, or sandwiches or pizza. LOL Great video. Keep up the great work.
I feel much more satisfied with higher protein. I notice on yhe days i eat more protein i don't have near as many cravings. It is as important to my success as fat intake. That is what i have learned about myself.
Thanks thanks thanks for doing the research and work to get this info to us. 👍🏽
Great content very helpful information I've been really worried about exceeding .8 grams per my lean body weight. This has helped me relax on this protein mystery. Thanks Vicki
I love you guys! Thank you so much for every video you make! I have been on Keto for over 8 months. I have lost 100 lbs. However, I did this at 30 carbs per day. Mind you the first six weeks I kept to 20 carbs or below. Never lost a pound. Once I did a test week of 30 to 31 carbs a day, I lost 5 pounds that week. I have no idea why it is this way. The point of this information is to test everything yourself. Listen to your body. You will find out what best works for you. Keep up the awesome video and recipes guys!!
I super enjoy that you guys are the genuine pigs and give your finds...it shows how dedicated to your peeps
Thanks guys! Very informative!
I never comment. I want you to know that I watch you, read your blog, make your delicious recipes.... I just started listening to you podcast. I think you both are great. I really like that you speak to the general public. This will probably be my only comment. Please just know I’m enjoying watching and listening to both of you. (Not in a creepy way!)
This is a topic I'm quite interested in, so I'm glad to see you cover it. As far as I can tell it seems like people eating a high protein, high fat, no carb diet like the carnivore diet are in ketosis and getting all the associated benefits. I personally never stressed about how much protein I eat, it's usually only slightly less than my fat intake and it hasn't negatively affected me.
love the videos we learn a lot!
Thanks for the vid you guys!
Lots of great information here! Thanks so much! Personally, a lot of protein seems to stall me. My body just doesn’t like it, apparently lol...I’ve found a good balance that’s working great for me. I think it’s important to do what works for you because everyone is different. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for ALL the research
Thank you for the tips!
