Harrow isn't lying or being intentionally deceitful about Ammat. This is the guy that walks around with broken glass in his shoes and does so silently without making it a big deal. He really seems to be a true believer.
God Oscar Issac is phenomenal in this show. This is some of the best acting in the entire MCU. Even through the very slight changes in his facial expressions and body language you can tell the very clear difference between Marc and Steven. Also I feel so freaking bad for Steven, he really just wants to live a normal life without all this supernatural stuff, be a tour guide for a museum, meet a nice girl and settle down with her. And everyone thinks Peter Parker has the worst work/life balance in Marvel.
Lol I know right, plus Peter chose to do his job so he should have some idea of the consequences, just as the mom(forget her name) from Hawkeye say -the consequences of being a superhero. But in this situation it seems like Steven/even Marc doesn't/didn't even have a choice
I think there will be a third alter named Jake like in the comics. I think Jake is the one who got the date with Dylan. I don't think Jake will have a Moon Knight costume, but he might still fight -- just without a wardrobe change. In the comics, Jake is sometimes portrayed as the one who will do the really brutal stuff that causes even Marc to be uncomfortable.
I genuinely love the small bits of horror in this series. It’s suspenseful and simple but still effective. The quick cutaways before something happens like when arthur summons that Jackal. Or when Khonshu chases Steven is my favorite scene in the episode. If anyone is interested in similar thrills I HIGHLY recommend the Monument Mythos by Alex Kansas and other YT horror series. Some of best stuff I’ve seen. I can only imagine what Multiverse of madness has in store for us(It is Sam rami after all).
I’m thinking that that Marc is the main identity. I wonder when Steven was created. Because at one point khonshu was talking to Marc and khonshu said “you told me he(Steven) wouldn’t be a problem” so it implies that Steven existed before Marc became moon knight. So Steven must have been dormant a long long time. Long enough for Marc to become moon knight and get a wife named Layla haha not to mention she doesn’t seem to know about Marc’s dissociative identity disorder
I like that theory. Like Eric said, if DID can come from childhood trauma, maybe that's why Marc wasn't speaking to his mother. When he said normally there's a wall between he and Steven, I took that as normally Marc can suppress Steven. So maybe his alter originated in childhood but only resurfaced from some more recent trauma, possibly that incident where archeologists were executed. I also assume his mother passed away shortly before he started living in the apartment.
Mr. Knight looked awesome in this episode. Another great episode. The back and forth between Steven Grant and Marc Spector was my favorite part of this episode. Khonshu looks terrific in this series. Arthur Harrow is a great villain. I love the visuals in this show. Arthur Harrow being a former avatar of Khonshu, was an excellent twist. Arthur Harrow roasting Khonshu was cool-blooded. I'm also enjoying this show. I loved the interaction between Steven Grant and Arthur Harrow in this episode. Khonshu has no chill. Another thing I loved about this episode was Layla and her interaction with Steven Grant was fun to watch.
Some clarification: Marc is the primary fronting personality of a person Dissociative Identity Disorder. The collective of these personalities are usually called systems, due to the interconnected web of trauma necessary for alters to manifest. Anyone who has a Disorder on the Dissociative Disorder Spectrum has the potential to manifest alters, with DID being the most severe (strong and persistent,) diagnosis on the spectrum. Steven is an alter who was partially sublimated into a false ID, until the wall between them broke last episode. (Compartmentalization as a side effect of dissociation usually functions as a wall, or as a door. Given that, Marc confirmed that it was more like a wall for them.) In the comic, each of Marc's "Fake" IDs is based off of an alter either he knows of or suspects might exist beyond a wall that has been put up.
Never read the comics, but here's a little theory: Now that I hear your discussion, I can't help but wonder if that little girl from the first episode is talking about when Marc was "a corpse". Maybe he died, was rejected from the field of Reedes (I think that's how it's called) and then was brought back by Konshu
To me, WandaVision; Loki; and Moonknight's premieres were the best. It's just different from all the action that we usually get from Marvel. I wouldn't call it weird, but the premise of the premieres - the sitcom setting and it actually being performed live in front of a studio audience; the philosophy of Loki and his glorious purpose; and the ins and outs between Marc and Steven and the goldfish problem that lies in Steven's end. Idk something abt it just does it for me.
Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Blade...Marvel is slowly putting the pieces in place for an eventual Midnight Sons. Hopefully we get that at some point.
Marc is the main personality. Steven seems to be a reflection of Marc's wife. Not exactly sure why... maybe just a product of his love for her? He separated from her to keep her safe, so maybe when his psyche broke, he filled that space with something comforting, like his wife.
people with DID some of their alters tend to be based on people who make them feel safe, okay, and loved. if he felt that way with layla then that would most definitely project onto an alter.
Wish there were more episdoes that's my main gripe with MCU shows. Imagine this show was the length of Daredevil and we could really see the depths of Marc's fractured mind and how he made the Steven persona to protect himself and his slow descent into being too scared to be his true self.
@@rebelxoswald Yes, it was the Introject system role. Goes to show why Steven is an innocent alter. Marc is probably filled with guilt that his mind created an innocent alter based on his wife.
Layla said something like “is this one of your imaginary characters you’ve made up again” so I think he may have this pattern. His disorder makes a cover person, in this case Steven, and Mark is able to fulfill his tasks covertly. Although I feel with how sensitive DiD is, I think they will explain it in timw
Seems like Steven will hopefully develop into a cerebral 'detective' Knight character with Marc as the brawny Moon Knight character. Caught the Global Repatriation Council (GRC from FaWS) ad on the side of the London double-decker bus placing this show post the FaWS show! Looking forward to Benson & Moorhead who directed this episode & Ep 4 directing Loki S2! QR Code to Moon Knight Comics was a nice touch - this type of Easter Egg should be incorporated organically into other MCU movies & shows! BP seems to be the only character in the MCU that's positively associated with Purple!
@@tellyg47 Not so sure we're going to get the Jake personality - interviews from the head writer/director suggests they didn't have enough room in 6 eps to do Jake justice, so they chose to focus on Steven/Marc/Mr Knight/Moon Knight!
@@AllInTheGame01 well Oscar Isaac did tease something in that Marvel studios waiting room video he said something to the effect of “In the end, Ja-“ before getting censored. Then again it may all be meta. Perhaps Jack Lockley was the one to set up Steven on that date? It wouldn’t make scene for Marc to do so.
While Moon Knight is a special case because he's a fictional superhero with a god in his head, I think it'd be cool to share some information about Dissociative Identity Disorder, since you guys were talking about it around 22:00. Firstly, as stated by Eric, Dissociative Identity Disorder in reality is often developed in childhood, and is statistically more common in females. There's a misinformed belief in how it develops, though, which Aaron states; "The mind breaks under extreme stress/trauma." In actuality, because the mind is under such extreme stress/trauma at such a young age, it DEVELOPS fragmented. A bad analogy is to imagine the brain and consciousness as a room. For the average child, throughout childhood, that room is built with 4 walls as the mind develops. In that room, all thoughts, memories, etc are easily accessible. A child that develops DID as a coping mechanism, however, will subconsciously build more walls within that original room, where certain, often traumatic, memories are locked away in order for the collective whole to cope and continue to operate. While those rooms exist within the same consciousness, because of the "mental walls" dividing them, an Alter (the proper term for an alternate personality) can, and will, develop along with the brain, creating it's own thoughts and memories. As such most Alters want to be perceived as individual people. This leads to the next interesting fact; People with DID rarely have an "original personality". Because the brain developed fragmented in childhood, more than one Alter is guaranteed to exist, even if only one is known. Typically it is what's known as an "Apparently Normal Part", which often handles running the Body, and doesn't hold any trauma. Some systems (the term for alters as a collective) have just one ANP alter, while other systems can have multiple, and others still have none. Each case is unique. Something else Eric states is that Marc likely created Steven subconsciously to be all of the things he isn't; this is completely plausible. While not every case, it has been studied that some with DID, even in adulthood, can very well subconsciously develop new Alters. Often it's to fill a "role" that the brain feels it's lacking and is causing stress to the system. These new alters can develop under the belief that they are a certain person; including a different ethnicity, sex, age, etc. and can even develop to emulate both real people and fictional characters. Something that media most often gets wrong, however, is Alters and their goals. In most media, a person with DID is portrayed as being broken or "chaotic", unable to function properly and, more often than not, having at least one "personality" that seeks to hurt either the body or others. Alters on a fundamental level often exist to fill a role in the System, and to keep the body operating and safe. Again, DID is a coping mechanism and having an Alter that seeks to hurt, or otherwise bring harm, to the body goes against that. (Note: Alters that seek to self-harm are possible, as are Alters capable of self-defense.) Another common misrepresentation is that people with DID outwardly change when a different Alter fronts (the term for taking control of the body). Again, the system exists to keep the body safe; acting as a different person, and answering to a different name reveals that you share your body with other people and can potentially put the system in danger. As such, unless around people they trust, an Alter fronting will act as the most prominent ANP and answer to the name given to the body at birth.
Eric's right! When I was watching all I could hear was Steve telling us, "I thought the punishment came after the crime." & "this isn't freedom. This is fear."
I know absolutely nothing about Moon Knight, so this might already be obvious: but it definitely looks like Steven is a rather recent alter. Probably brought on by Marc and the problems with his wife. In fact it looks like the Steven alter was based on Layla, given the love for poetry that’s the same as hers, etc. Maybe he was brought about because Marc wanted to be someone his wife could love.
Same, it happens 2 me with all their live reactions. I'm even watching the full eps of b99 and community on Netflix right b4 watching their reaction to the same ep ;)
This is why I like watching a lot of different reactions to this series, there are subtle things I miss and the idea that Steven is living a life Marc wishes he had is so central to why he emerged as an alter.
One of my favorite things about this show is chemistry and chaotic relationship between Steven and Marc and Oscar Isaac going back and forth is just crazy good acting probably one of the best spilt personality duo performances I have seen since Jim Carrey in Me, Myself & Irene lol can’t wait for more!
I kind of hope that he already had it because it would make it much more accurate to the actual disorder. The actual disorder is only formed through extreme childhood trauma, it would make sense that Harrow wouldn’t really know the specifics of his condition but we know he’s at least aware of the other alters ( or Just Steven at the moment). I bet Marc had it before Konshu found him, maybe Konshu was thinking that the presence of others would make it easier to hide- or it’s possible he was just amused by it but didn’t realize just how difficult having an Avatar with DID would be. To me, I really don’t want them to go the route of Konshu being the reason that he has DID, or him getting it through magic. -because so far, it has been pretty accurate as far as the day to day effects and symptoms of the disorder. If you forget about the magic God powers and the looking in mirrors everything adds up to how it would actually present in a person. giving him details of a trauma filled childhood and past could make this even more of the fantastic representation it has the potential to be.
The majority of this video is speculation, discussion and theorizing, and I love it. Having seen the show already, I'm delighted at how deep you all dove into this show. It's my favorite Marvel show.
Gui DaSilva the stunt man for The Black Panther had to wear a 100% real suit on set and has said it was a "heavy ass suit" and restricted his movement, So i'd imagine there probably is a fully real suit but we will only see it if Moon Knight isn't doing anything major. Because I can only imagine it would be even harder to do stunts with a cape ontop of a Heavy suit that resticts your vision and movement. Edit: Also I imagine that if The Moon Knight was real that his cape would have some kind of unnatural physics like Dr Stranges cape without the flying, maybe it would feel unnaturaly light and slower moving than a real cape.
I'm thinking maybe Mark was with the researchers hince the "when I found you you were basically a corpse" line. Maybe they were attacked and he was killed along with them and that's when he was possessed.
Liked this episode more than last week! Definitely invested in this show now with great storytelling, some humor, and cool visuals. Can't wait for next week!
Hat on, im going to say that both Marc and Steven are alternate personality's and that he was the archeologist and that his Sin was breaking into a tomb, not the killing of everyone.
Marc says he’s been doing this “for a long time” and has been married. In the comics Mark is the main identity and Steven is a split personality there’s also a third named Jake lockley notice how there’s always three reflections reflections and not just two. All of Marcs feelings for his wife everything he feels for her has manifested in Steven
its such a clever execution ...plotwise kinda streamlined but there might be some plot twists we can't predict yet...looks awesome...its what i want with a spawn movie...the frames are straight out a comics...beautiful...grabbing his throwing sickle...sick 🙂 the conversation he has towards the end cracking the mirrors is something i wanna see with the hulk and banner
There was a movie or something I don't remember the name of, but the main character is a spy who's created an alias to go undercover for her mission. She gets in an accident or something and forgets her true identity thereby living as her cover for years before slowly discovering her spy skills and past. This episode definitely reminded me of that movie, I think Marc might be the original.
Dude this episode got me absolutely hooked, I fucking loved it, I love how they did mr knight, I would rewatch it, but I gotta wake up in the morning🤦♂️ lol
Best marvel show so far loving it! Konshu looks awesome & Arthur has to be lying about something he said to Steven. Loved Marc and Steven’s convo in the end very good acting & the Moon Knight suit is badass both versions
I agree about the fact that Steven is the version of himself he created as a wish fullfiment - wish he talked to his mom (who I'm still not 1000% sure is alive), wish he had a normal life with a normal goldfish, etc. That's why he's so nice to Steven and puts everything back the way that it should be. Also, Steven talks to Marc almost like a subconscious of sorts or negative self-talk -- he says how he doesn't believe him and all he does is hurt people and I believe that these are things Marc believes about himself and is why he created Steven in the first place. I also think this is why he told Steven that once he finishes the mission that he won't see him again -- because I think Marc wants to take a "backseat" and live out the mundane life he's created with Steven, even if that means never fully addressing his trauma as Marc. I don't think this will work as his brain clearly isn't allowing that to happen, especially now that the two are overlapping, but I think that's what this current version of Marc wants. In addition I believe Steven was there for most of his life as Marc said he's been juggling him for "a long time." At first, I was confused on why Layla wouldn't have known about this either, but I realized when watching reactions that she asks on the motorcycles if "this is another one of your identities" you created so something tells me he used to lie to her and say he was working undercover as someone different when another personality would take over.
Steven, or rather ‘Marc’ suffers from Disassociation Identity Disorder, or DID. They did a good job of portraying it so far, as it’s not unusual for the multiple personalities, or “Alters” to not remember what the others did, as memories do not transfer between personalities. That’s why some people with DID are misdiagnosed as sleep walkers or schizophrenics. People can have anywhere from 2 to dozens of personalities per person. The personalities are each born from traumatic circumstances, as a way to cope with the situation they find themselves in. Some can have alters that are childlike, formed when they were children and frozen in terms of mental age. Some people have older alters, fantasy alters (ghosts from attempted suicide, animal personalities from pretending to be animals to cope from trauma, etc) some people even have fictional characters as alters! The brain is incredible in the ways it will adapt and reshape itself to maintain its own sanity and protect you!
the ghost or animal part is correct but its rare and there are no fictional characters part. thats misinformation spread around. usually on tumblr or tiktok where those that fact having DID say they have a fictional alter but its not true.
@@brianhobaugh I’m not pressed. My parents are both psychologists and it’s just frustrating when someone posts something about a mental health disorder that they know absolutely nothing about.
FUN FACT: When Steven Grant aka Mr. Knight and Marc Spector aka Moon Knight are in scenes together Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada is acting against his real life brother, Michael Benjamin Hernandez during them, well he switches between roles.
I think Steven predates Moon Knight because Konshu says Marc promised Steven wouldn't be a problem, which to me proves Marc already knew about and perhaps already was taking care of Steven before the deal. Also if he really has DID he would have developed it as a child so Steven and Marc (We don't know who existed first or if they even know themselves. With DID the host doesn't even have to be the first alter and alters can form as small children) could have both existed most of their lives. I kind of like the thought that they really do have DID and Steven is the alter that has intentionally had a lot of the abuse hidden from him so he can remain somewhat stable and "innocent." Like Marc is the system's (all the alters that use the body) primary protector and went into this deal to save Layla but has been trying very hard to keep Steven out of it because the system's job is to keep Steven safe. Keep all the good things about him intact while the others deal with the trauma (like there has to be a reason Steven can't remember entire war traumas.) which is why they (Marc or perhaps a caretaking alter whose job it is to keep everyone calm/stable in more practical life ways) replaced his fish and keep him at a job in a museum he likes and possibly even fake their mom's voice mail/send him postcards to try to let him have a normal life. Also think another alter (maybe Jake? Would be kind of funny if it was a Scotty, lol) will be brought up even if it's a stinger because if not the date is a big plot hole. Marc still obviously loves Layla and definitely wouldn't be trying to drag someone new into their life. But another alter who works sometimes at the museum and has a similar accent to Steven might very well be trying to live a life himself. I was hoping Mr. Knight would prove to be an inner world gatekeeper or something but that would probably be going too deep into the disease instead of the plot and the suit coding is a cool idea. And as always, I may be massively overthinking things and this could all be wrong by the next ep, lol! Anyway, loving the show and always love your reactions.
Something I thought was interesting from the guy with the cane (I can't remember his name) was that he said the Khonshu only punishes people who have already done bad. _So_ _why_ _the_ _hell_ _is_ _he_ _after_ _you_ then?
Very solid second episode! Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke are killing it. May Calamaway as Layla is great. I freaking LOVE Steven Grant so much. That brief moment with Mr. Knight is so cool. Watching this now and it just dawned on me that the Steven we have been watching thus far may be the split personality and not he prime character. Amazing.
I love the intro to Egyptian mythology this prompts those who watch it to start. Amit judges, in mythology, against the feather of Ma’at and is one of those gods who isn’t inherently evil and is even a protector, but is innately feared because of her role. So if you’re heart is heavier than Ma’at’s feather, your heart is devoured and thus you die. Otherwise you’re granted eternal life in the Egyptian underworld as you pass through the field of reeds into your appropriate part of Osiris’s realm
True story. Maybe about 10 years ago I was working at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Elijah Wood walked into the office I was working at to get a special pass to skip the lines and my reflex when I saw him was to point and say "Flipper?" He laughed. It as pretty cool.
We haven't seen him yet, but we have seen his handy work, Jake was the one who asked out the girl from Steven's work. Being that Steven is vegan he wouldn't have asked her to a steak house, and Marc is married, so he wouldn't be asking another woman out.
I also believe that it was Jake at that market place, the car chase and most recently killing the guys in egypt. and both marc and steven are not aware of jake yet. so excited to see how this is going to play out!!
HOLY SHIT! NOW THAT THEY MENTION THE LITTLE KID. Maybe she iiiisss Ammit or part of the cult. That question was so weird and random. Steven even responds "But I'm not dead, am I?" MARC DID DIE! Khonshu said so by calling him a corpse when he found him. THIS SHOW IS TOO GOOOOOD!

This is why when they said they’d rather have had them be 4 different identities instead of 2 I was like no way. They couldn’t even understand the two identities last episode imagine four different ones they’d be speculating the entire series
i know this was a while ago but if you haven’t already check out the behind the scenes movie thing on disney + for the moon knight series. they talk about the costumes and show the different versions of and close ups of the practical moon knight suit.
My theory is that Marc is the main identity, but Steven in one way or another has always been there since DID develops in childhood. Maybe Marc had moved past some of his trauma so Steven hadn’t come out in a long time, but by becoming the avatar it reawakened Steven who has taken on more of Layla’s personality. Marc had said that they’d been together for a long time but they weren’t really aware of each other

Or when Khonshu chases Steven is my favorite scene in the episode. If anyone is interested in similar thrills I HIGHLY recommend the Monument Mythos by Alex Kansas and other YT horror series.
Never read the comics, but here's a little theory:
Now that I hear your discussion, I can't help but wonder if that little girl from the first episode is talking about when Marc was "a corpse".
Maybe he died, was rejected from the field of Reedes (I think that's how it's called) and then was brought back by Konshu
Thought the same, then who is she, Anubis?
That would be very Sandman like for Anubis to be a little girl.
Bro... you ghostwrote the plot. After that episode 5 and seeing this comment.
They're doing werewolf by night?
@@pnut3844able yes. It’ll be a Special for Halloween.
Hopefully Blade showing up at the end like Nick Fury
Still waiting on Ghost Rider, they'll need him for Midnight Sons (and I guess they can ask Sony for Morbius as well)
Marc is the main personality.
Love this theory
Wish there were more episdoes that's my main gripe with MCU
shows. Imagine this show was the length of Daredevil and we could really see the depths of Marc's fractured mind and how he made the Steven persona to protect himself and his slow descent into being too scared to be his true self.
Probably, which is unfortunate because I like Steven more
@@rebelxoswald Yes, it was the Introject system role.

Thank you for this. I have a story or show idea with a character with DiD and I want to portray it right
@@RazorO2Productions I'd reccomend looking into even more detail

Eric's right! When I was watching all I could hear was Steve telling us, "I thought the punishment came after the crime." & "this isn't freedom. This is fear."
I know absolutely nothing about Moon Knight, so this might already be obvious: but it definitely looks like Steven is a rather recent alter. Probably brought on by Marc and the problems with his wife. In fact it looks like the Steven alter was based on Layla, given the love for poetry that’s the same as hers, etc. Maybe he was brought about because Marc wanted to be someone his wife could love.
Well Marc is the original. Layla is supposed to be Marlene who was his love interest in the comics.
@@gabrielcarrasco8414 there is no "original" in a system.

The actors in this show are fantastic…great show so far excited to see how this unpacks!
The “devil dog” is a jackal from Egyptian mythology.
They say it in the show but just don’t listen I guess
I think that from research, people have found that the "jackals" in ancient Egypt were actually wolves. Just hearsay, though.
@@ninjabluefyre3815 yea most of the jackles depicted where just African wolfs that are more related to normal grey wolfs than golden jackles.
The cape in the moon knight series is cgi I’m pretty sure

There was a movie or something I don't remember the name of, but the main character is a spy who's created an alias to go undercover for her mission.
Nice copy and paste from Google buddy.
the ghost or animal part is correct but its rare and there are no fictional characters part. thats misinformation spread around. usually on tumblr or tiktok where those that fact having DID say they have a fictional alter but its not true.

FUN FACT:
When Steven Grant aka Mr.
Stephen is a manifestation of Leila in Mark's mind; he's got the same interests, favorite book, skillset, etc.
OH MY GOD! I didn't realize until the Q&A that Calvin was wearing a CLOAK shirt! Nice!

I love the intro to Egyptian mythology this prompts those who watch it to start. So if you’re heart is heavier than Ma’at’s feather, your heart is devoured and thus you die. Otherwise you’re granted eternal life in the Egyptian underworld as you pass through the field of reeds into your appropriate part of Osiris’s realm

Yes I do believe there is another personality besides Marc and Steven and his name is Jake Lockley, who is actually a cab driver from the comics
Oscar Isaac can't seem to escape the desert lol (X-Men, Star Wars, Dune, Moon Knight)
