    I have one, great tool, often use it like portable field recorder with amazing XYH 6 capsule, it works just like on H6, no additional noise compared to H6.
    Also you forget to mentioned XLR head doesn't provide phantom power, so you can use just powered or dynamic mics. And zooms 10pin shotguns, also as MS-capsule are very noisy mics.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  5 лет назад

      The shotgun mic takes control and you cannot use the lav mic at the same time. You could use the Dual XLR capsule to record two channels, but that’s the only way I can think of it.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  Год назад +1

      I don't know how loud air tools are, but it's possible the gain setting on your camera is too high, or maybe the microphone has a low Max SPL (sound pressure level) while the tools are louder than that specification. You may benefit from one of the new 32-bit floating point recorders, but you'd still need to know how loud the air tools are and select a microphone that has a MAX SPL that exceeds the SPL of the air tools.

    I've loved mine until a talent accidentally dropped it from a chair to a wooden floor (wasn't even a big fall). The battery door broke open. I tried repairing the locking part of the door with no use since it just would not hold the batteries in place anymore. So now I'm stuck with an otherwise perfectly fine recorder with no practical solution for closing the battery door. I tried industrial Velcro but doesn't feel as secure. I guess gaffer's tape will be the way to go 😔😔

    H1 record stereo audio but F1 only record mono audio...H1 don't have limiter but F1 got a limiter...input level for H1 is better since you can up and down from 0 to 100 compared for F1 which is using -low low low+ -med and so on....its one way selection only...so if you have select louder input...in order to lower the input you need to press the input level many time (the audio will go high level first) until you get the lower input level...and the battery also H1 better since it used 1 AA battery...and F1 used 2 AAA battery..H1 battery last longer than F1 battery

    Dude best mic for emo scream...sung by bandrew?

  • @iancraig
    @iancraig 5 лет назад +1

    Thanks Bandrew. What is surprising with the Zoom is the stereo input not being put to good use where one side could be set to a lower input setting to avoid clipping. I use the Tascam version Dr10 which records two files at the same time, so you can flip to the lower volume version to avoid clipping. It’s a lot easier with a stereo input (like on the Rode VideomicPro+) with in effect, two inputs. I just think that Zoom missed a trick there plus the limiter just isn’t that good really, very similar to the H1n limiter which also raises the noise floor and audibly ‘pumps’.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  5 лет назад +2

      After releasing this and someone mentioned Curtis Judds review I checked it out and the safety track is an exact critique.

    • @iancraig
      @iancraig 5 лет назад

      Well, although the Tascam does a safety track, Bandrew, it is actually a separate track but with this zoom, they could have implemented it as a dual track since it’s a stereo recorder. The Tascam is mono only. It would have been more useful than the Tascam then, although I think the noise floor is higher to be honest.
      Another thing I don’t understand - why no mono setting for speech? They did the very same on the H1n.

    • @stevefreegard6406
      @stevefreegard6406 5 лет назад +3

      You can't do that. An XLR based AT2020 requires 48v phantom power and outputs balanced audio. The 3.5mm jack provides no powering and is unbalanced and will likely have quite different input impedance. If you want to use an AT2020 you therefore need to use a USB audio interface to go from XLR->USB that provides the necessary 48V phantom power.

    I own and use a Zoom F1 Field Recorder and contrary to your opinion the pre-amps on it don't suck! All the reviews I've seen and read state the F1 audio is very high quality and many professionals use the F1. Curtis Judd gives high marks for the F1 audio quality and I respect his opinion based on his testing of the F1. Maybe you just have a defective unit or you are using cheap microphones. Of course you are entitled to your opinion.

      Sure, if you're just using a lav mic then get the H1 and stick that in your pocket, but the reason one might consider the F1 is if they want access to the Zoom 10-pin ecosystem, which makes it more versatile (if that's what you want/need).

    What I don't like about this recorder is that they do not support external mics that are not Zoom mics. They've got it rigged: no external connector except for one mic, not for two separate mics. Their "proprietary" 10-pin edge connector is only for Zoom microphones, all of which are to be mounted only on the recorder, itself. We found this out the hard way, by buying the unit and being very disappointed. If only they had included another connector for the second channel.
