That play where Jordan recovers and slaps the ball from Xavier Mcdonald's hand was not a foul then. This was before the elimination of hand checking so the hand handling the ball was considered part of the ball. In today's game, that play would've never happened because a foul would've been called multiple times before even getting to that point.

The backstory of Jordan wearing #45 Bulls jersey was the number was retired when he retired but he came back & the rest is history. You definitely need to check out Jordan Rare Voyager video.
He told the story behind both 23 and 45 once before. However...what people don't remember is that Jordan was fined for switching from 45 to 23 because the Bulls had retired #23.
What made Mike unstoppable was 4.3 and 48 . One of the quickest first steps , then it gets worse 4.3 40 . He accelerates every step. 48 inch vertical. Within a foot of the paint it is over because he is airborne. Then add his superior skills. Goat
23 was retired when he quit. He chose 45 for his father. But since he returned they took his jersey out of the rafters and put it back in play. Best I can remember it!
His father got killed during a carjacking prior to his comeback so he chose #45 as the new beginning. Once he played the rust off and saw that he was still dominant, he went back to #23.....I always hated that my hands weren't big enough to palm the ball like that.... The highlight showing Bird guarding Jordan was from the double overtime, 63-point "flu" game, if I'm not mistaken... Now you see why old heads will say he would average 50pts now
Larry Bird is always my favorite and is in my top five for me but Mj is number 1 . He took the torch and ran with it .He didn't wear 23 because he knew because his father wasn't there to watch him and felt it was a new beginning and 45 was his first number when he was playing in high school. He wore 45 bc 23 was retired and hanging in the rafters of the united center. He wore 45 for about a month then paid a fine to wear 23 for the last 4 or 5 games of the 95 season.
I've seen lots of people talking about why he wore #45, so I won't say much on that because most of it has been covered. The real thing is why he chose #23 to begin with. Michael's brother, Larry, wore #45 in school, so Michael chose #23 because he said a long time ago in an interview that he wanted to be half as good as his brother. Ironically, since you can't divide 2 numbers evenly into 45, Michael chose #23. It is as close as he could get to half of 45. In the Olympics (he was in two), he chose the #9 also to honor his brother because 4+5 = 9, and they don't or didn't use large numbers on jerseys. Other people have already mentioned why he didn't immediately go back to #23. Back after he came back from retirement, Jordan also did an interview and said he wasn't sure he wanted to go back to #23 because that was the jersey number his dad last saw him play in, so he was having some conflict with that, but we all know what he ultimately decided.

Bill Walton hall of fame center played originally for Portland and they won a championship. He was past prime w celtics but still won another title with them. In their first playoff meeting MJ scored 45. Larry said that will not happen again. The next games MJ went off and dropped 63 on them. After that game is when Bird told and interviewer when they asked why they couldnt stop MJ, and Bird said "that wasnt Michael Jordan that Was God."
The 98 Finals are the highest rated Finals, and overall the highest rated ANYTHING in Pro basketball history. The game he came back from retirement in 95 is the highest rated game of the previous 30 or 40 years. I read some shit on SI, where they interviewed people who worked in the pacer's stadium for that game and what they described was some next level, madness type shit of how celebs were losing their minds trying to get tickets, how like they had to process like 6,000-7,000 press credentials and basically had to tell like 99% of the press they can't make it as there was no room. Even royal families from around the world were trying to get tickets. What these people described happened that day, was some shit that no movie could touch, in out of this world crazy shit. Missed the first few years of MJ's career, but I recorded on VHS just about every Bulls game from 90 until the 98 finals. Another unbelievable stat is the bulls lost the first 3 games in a row to open the 90 season, they never lost 3 games in a row again until after MJ left the bulls. Almost a decade of basketball without losing that many in a row sounds like BS lol. No team has ever done that.
Jordan's number got retired after his first retirement after the first 3Peat. So he couldn't wear 23 when he came back the first season. He is the only athlete I can think of who was playing with his number in the rafters and a statue in front of the arena of him. The bulls thought he was never coming back so they built a statue right away 😂
No. That's not right. At all. He could have worn 23 when he came back. They didn't uretire it when he switched back to 23. It was still up in the rafters when he switched back. The 45 story is because of his father. He wore 45 during little league baseball through high school baseball. When he finally made the HS basketball team, (he got cut during tryouts his sophomore year) he was given 45. When he came back after baseball he chose 45 because it was the first time in his life that he played a game and his father wasn't there. Since his father wasn't going to be there for the end of his career, he wanted to wear the number he wore at the very beginning. He eventually went back to 23 because like most other star athletes, he was a little superstitious and he just wasn't comfortable in 45. Here's the direct quote from episode 4 of The Last Dance... “I didn’t want to wear 23 because I knew my father wasn’t there to watch me, and I felt it was a new beginning and 45 was my first number when I was playing in high school. I was nervous because I hadn't played competitive in a long time, and I just felt naked because my father wasn't there. It just seemed so different."
@ryane5483 He couldn't have worn it without unretiring the number first, which takes a season to do. He got fined for switching to 23 in the middle of the playoffs. It's not a super simple process to just un retire a jersey number.
@@whenisdinner2137 So, he's lying? Every interview he's ever given regarding why he switched is a lie? I've been going to Bulls games for more than 40 years. Since before anybody even knew who Jordan was. I can tell you every Bulls retired number and every player who wore a retired number after it was retired. You can also actually look it up. Or you can use common sense. How can a team fine a player for wearing a number if the team is the one who gave him the number? The NBA does not retire numbers. Individual teams retire numbers. Individual teams decide whether or not a player can wear a retired number. If the retired player gives the team the ok, the team will allow it. They retired Pippens jersey, and when he came back to finish his career with the Bulls, he wore 33 even though it was retired. The greatest Bull before Michael Jordan was Bob Love. His jersey #10 was retired. They drafted BJ Armstrong and he asked if he could have 10, Bob Love ok'd it and BJ Armstrong wore 10, which was hanging in the rafters for his whole career. Terry Cummings has his #34 retired by the Milwaukee Bucks. Giannis wears #34. Jason Tatum wears the same number as Robert Parrish did, and it's hanging up in Boston. Carmelo Anthony is right now beefing with the Nuggets because nobody in the Nuggets front office asked him if he would be cool with Jokic wearing #15. It's a little different now because of licensing for 2k games and whatnot, but you can wear retired numbers. Back then you just had to ask, today you have to file paperwork.
45 is because of baseball and his father. Lucky for us baseball had a strike, so he.came back. Most powerful sports moment was his first championship back was won on fathers day...
Discussion has to be for second place, the distance between this alien and everybody else is just too big. Take a look at the voyager video, his defensive highlights, his passing highlights, his top 60 plays and a video called MJs best highlight video. Once you go down this rabbit hole there is no way back
When Jordan retired to play baseball, the Bulls retired his jersey number(23). So when he came back they told him he could wear it. When he would wear 23 during a game, he was getting fined. Rumor was that he just kept paying the fines till they got tired of fining him.
Anyone who has seen Mike knows there is no debate. The only one on his level is Wilt because they are Aliens. Mike 4.3 40 . Wilt 4.4 . Both 48 inch vertical. Wilt 500 lbs bench press. Anyone who has seen Mike attack 7 ft 280 plus centers does not doubt his strength
@NoCodeLive Look up Derek Anderson comments on guarding 45. He said he could never guard 23. Jordan came back the next game after Derek made that comment with the number 23. Jordan had to pay a huge fine for un retiring his old number.
After the Bulls completed the first three peat, Michael Jordan retired. The Bulls retired his number 23. After he came back out of retirement, he was good but he wasn't the same player that he was when he wore the number 45. So Michael Jordan requested to reinstate the number 23.

Michael Jordan switched back to #23 after Nick Anderson said 45 isn't 23. Only wore #45 only 23 games. Michael Jordan was considered the G.O.A.T, before even putting a NBA jersey on. Michael Jordan destroyed Team NBA in the Olympics on Team USA. Bobby Night also considered Michael Jordan the G.O.A.T. before he even put on a NBA jersey. I say and always will say Michael Jordan is and always will be the G.O.A.T
They had retired the # 23 after he retired so when he came back he had 45 but after 1or 3 games he went back to # 23. The NBA fined him $25,000 for wearing the # 23 because you are not allowed to wear a retired number. Michael didn’t care. GOAT

Okay see my understanding of the game back then isn’t all the way there so that makes a lot of sense . Thank you for explaining that 🤞🏽❤️
Nobody had those hands. His ability to palm the ball at any time …
That was always so dope to me how he could do that 🙆🏽♂️
The more tongue you saw the greater athletic move was about to happen. If he played today his tongue would be a social media star.
That’s a fact 🤣🤣🤣🤞🏽❤️🐐
We used to go to ABA games back in the day. One night, Dr J and David Thompson came to town in an exhibition game which turned into a dunk-a-thon. MJ came to town in his last year as a Tarheel so we had to go see him too. Da goat.
Wow, you lucky to see them. Amazing.
23 had been retired by the Bulls, so when he came back, he couldn't use 23 yet.
Thee GOAT, no 2 ways about it.

I’ll make it bigger but I like to keep my reactions the focal point 🙆🏽♂️🤞🏽❤️
In an era of truly legit hall of famers.. Jordan was that guy that nobody could touch. Eben they will tell you that the guy was different. The greatest of all time
They all knew he was better than they were. He'll Charles even admitted it
The backstory of Jordan wearing #45 Bulls jersey was the number was retired when he retired but he came back & the rest is history. You definitely need to check out Jordan Rare Voyager video.
Must watch !
He told the story behind both 23 and 45 once before. However...what people don't remember is that Jordan was fined for switching from 45 to 23 because the Bulls had retired #23.
23 was retired, so he used a different number when he came back. Plus, I think he didn't want to use the same number as when his dad was alive
What made Mike unstoppable was 4.3 and 48 . One of the quickest first steps , then it gets worse 4.3 40 . He accelerates every step. 48 inch vertical. Within a foot of the paint it is over because he is airborne. Then add his superior skills. Goat
Phil Jackson once said that MJ's most underrated gift was his hands. You talk about how he can palm that ball so easily, MJ has some mitts
Nahh facts
23 was retired when he quit. He chose 45 for his father. But since he returned they took his jersey out of the rafters and put it back in play. Best I can remember it!
His father got killed during a carjacking prior to his comeback so he chose #45 as the new beginning. Once he played the rust off and saw that he was still dominant, he went back to #23.....I always hated that my hands weren't big enough to palm the ball like that.... The highlight showing Bird guarding Jordan was from the double overtime, 63-point "flu" game, if I'm not mistaken... Now you see why old heads will say he would average 50pts now
45 was his original number growing up but he got to Chicago someone had 45 so he went half plus one 23 ... The rest is history!!
That’s a dope ass backstory …
Larry Bird is always my favorite and is in my top five for me but Mj is number 1 . He took the torch and ran with it .He didn't wear 23 because he knew because his father wasn't there to watch him and felt it was a new beginning and 45 was his first number when he was playing in high school. That's what Mj said when asked.magic bird and Mj changed the game of basketball and made it exciting.
Yea MJ is def at the top of my list but overall I still can’t tell who got the number one spot !
@@NoCodeLive it so hard because Larry was such a complete player he made every team from high school on up a better team.there was one game in high school that he got 54 points and 38 rebounds. Can you just imagine seeing that game!

He said 23 was the last jersey his father saw him play in and 45 was his little league baseball jersey if I'm not mistaken.
I understand his reasoning but 23 was him he was 23
I got Larry Legend #2 ,
Jordan of course is the GOAT he's, #1 on a whole other level.
Nahh he def unmatched but Larry up there for sure in standing on it 🤞🏽❤️
He wore 45 bc 23 was retired and hanging in the rafters of the united center. He wore 45 for about a month then paid a fine to wear 23 for the last 4 or 5 games of the 95 season.
Apparently Larsa Pippen was also w a young dude that Scotty Jr is teammates with rn. 😳ScandalousSkeezer
She a wild girl!
I just don't understand why there is a debate, knock it off
knock it on
I've seen lots of people talking about why he wore #45, so I won't say much on that because most of it has been covered.
See this is different an awesome he looked up to his brother in this light
#45 for his Dad.????
Idk?
45 was his childhood baseball ⚾️ number

I can’t help but laugh when LeBron is being mentioned in the same league as MJ/Bird smdh
BRON BRON really him tho
@@NoCodeLive Bron Bron is inconsistent with the following: Defense, free throw shooting, jump shots (not dunks/layups), and closing games out. Not to mention, flopper, no killer instinct, argues/complains all the time, does not take accountability, coach killer, always needing more help and this guy is supposed to be considered the GOAT? C'mon bro.
#23 was retired, and the last time his father seen him play. #45 was his baseball number in elementary baseball.
I still remember Steve Kerr hitting last last shot of the 97 finals n I was just 10
The Bulls actually retired Michael's 23 not knowing he would return. They had to unretire the number so he could wear it again.
Ahh that makes sense !
🤣🤣 that’s legendary status right there completely unheard of … walking into work an seeing your status is insane
@@ryane5483 that was very informative thank you for that!
@ryane5483 He couldn't have worn it without unretiring the number first, which takes a season to do. He got fined for switching to 23 in the middle of the playoffs. It's not a super simple process to just un retire a jersey number.
@@whenisdinner2137
So, he's lying?
You youngsters crack me up!

Getting tired of fining him is crazy they woulda just kept getting paid . 🤣🤣

You have seen this before I can tell. Whatever Michael Jordan is the best player of all time. He’s really him.
Nahh hahaha I haven’t seen this before
Real reason he wore 45 was because his dad last saw him play in 23. He wanted to start a new era with his old high school number
After the Bulls completed the first three peat, Michael Jordan retired. The Bulls retired his number 23. After he came back out of retirement, he was good but he wasn't the same player that he was when he wore the number 45. So Michael Jordan requested to reinstate the number 23.
Meet the G.O.A.T of all G.O.A.Ts we call him Air Jordan, His Airness, Black Cat, Black Jesus, Flight 23, or simply the greatest basketball player in the history of the game. #23
2️⃣3️⃣
23 was retired when he left for baseball when he came back he wore 45 until they could un-retire #23
He switched to 45 after his Dad died. After 22 games, he went back to 23
It was because Nick Anderson said 45 ain't 23
It was a couple of games when he came back and the reason was that his Father had been murdered and last saw him in #23 so he was reluctant to come back from a year and a half off from basketball and don 23
I remember watching the Michael Jordan movie as a kid and seeing that but never knew why thank you for that ❤️🤞🏽

Wore #45 because when he came back from his first retirement Chicago had retired #23.
They retired his Jersey 23. Came back and wore 45 fora sec, then un-retired 23 again.
He did what he want in the league it was his to run tbh
He did not foul him
He didn’t ?! The angle was bogus I’m still trynna figure out how he hit that ball…
@NoCodeLive you might have to do a frame by frame. It went by very quickly. I had to check myself, and I don't think it's a foul

U watch my videos I do what I want no disrespect 🤞🏽❤️ I thank you for your view and comment .
GOAT
They retired 23 but he returned but had to wait til they decided he could unretire it
I’m glad cuz ngl 45 wasn’t sitting right with me even just watching him in it
Jordan is the true g.o.a.t for a reason.
23 to 45: bulls retired 23. He couldn’t use it. Even then when he went back to 23, the bulls paid the fine because 23 has been retired.
Makes sense !
Thank you for clearing that up 🤞🏽
He wore 45 because they retired the 23 but he decided to wear it again even though he wasn't supposed to because of league rules.
It was Mjs league he did what he wanted when he wanted they really couldn’t say no to him for long
