      And for shits and giggles was the dunk champ and all star game MVP. 35-5-5-3-1.5 is just insane. It's the greatest modern reg season ever. I don't think people truly understand how absurd it really is. Especially when you include the previous season and the next season. 86-87 he got 37-5-5-3-1 and wasn't MVP hahaha HOW INSANE IS THAT!?! And then 88-89 he got 32-8-8 and got 7 consecutive triple doubles and got a triple double 10/11 games at one point. Not sure how lebron fans wanna use the 80s as a way to bash MJ when in reality he was the greatest All around player the league has ever seen. He just legitimately didn't have any help to make moves in the playoffs.

    • @lotuslife3239
      @lotuslife3239 Месяц назад +5

      @StrictlyStrange67 Greatest all around guard, I couldn't see him guarding a lot of HOF bigs or even Bird, and even tho he was an insane perimeter defender the greatest defensive players ever are bigs because they have simply always done more on defense than the perimeter defenders. And he had Pippen which made Jordan's defense actually worth it cause then he wasn't the only guy trying to lock dudes up and dunk on ppl. Not only did Jordan pretty much start the flagrant foul rule, but that one rule change in the 90s where they stopped allowing the double team before the player got the ball opened up a lot of offense too, not just for Jordan but for Hakeem too. Jordan could lose his primary defender through off ball movement and screens and once he got the ball it was wide open or he had enough time to make his move, before that he was getting trapped more often. Hakeem had more time to make his moves in the post because there wasn't 2-3 guys there waiting for him once he got the ball, and 90s shooters were way better than in Wilt's era. Wilt to me is my GOAT because he did more for his teams than anyone in history, and it's a shame they didn't count steals and blocks until he retired. And it's a shame they treated him like a monster and didn't get him any good help when he was in his prime.

    • @StrictlyStrange67
      @StrictlyStrange67 Месяц назад +3

      @lotuslife3239 ehh I don't necessarily agree with bigs being the greatest defensive players. Yeah they protect the rim buts not like they can chase guys off screens, switch, defend ball beyond half court, etc. Rudy Gobert is not a better overall defender than Kawhi or Jrue Holiday. There's just so much that goes into perimeter defense and it takes a lot of energy and quick thinking to actually stop someone and be in the proper off ball placement. Bigs back then didn't even have the defensive 3 seconds. But I'm not gunna pretend that someone 6'6 could stop someone 7 foot in the post, but if any 6'6 player could, I'd bet on MJ.
      As far as Wilt goes tho I think he's the most slept on center. I'd pick him over Shaq and Kareem personally. The man averaged 50-25 on 48.5 minutes in a season. That shouldn't be possible for anyone. Him and MJ are the only 2 cut from the same cloth in that aspect. They could do whatever they truly wanted. And wilt never got to use his physical capabilities like Shaq. The game was very different back then. Wilt really couldn't even dunk, he had just basically just throw it in haha he couldve DESTROYED every goal. I wish he would've played in the 80s and 90s. You don't see many GOAT claims for Wilt tho. Your GOAT is your GOAT ya know.. Wilt was truly an absolute freak of nature. Mad respect

      Give someone possibly the most perfect body/athleticism for his era of the NBA.
      Then give that person PERFECT fundamentals from having 3 years of coaching from perhaps college basketballs greatest coach.
      Then give that person the perfect attitude for marketing/selling the game.
      And finally, make that person quite possibly the most competitive person on the planet.

Also, since you wanna bring up the "juiced" numbers, I assume you're speaking of the defensive player award year.
      Okay mate, Who was the second leading player that year in that category? And who did he play for? Wait a second, isn't THAT scorekeeper the one who started this whole "juiced" numbers conversation? If he ADMITTED to juicing the numbers of his OWN UTAH players and that Utah player was SECOND in the DPA category, Jordan would still win 🤦.
      Also, Johnny arnett broke down those FIVE games (outta 82) that the article was written about. It's a 50/50 split with some games being "juice" and some being spot on or 1 or 2 stats off. Now let's speak on the fake goat, Angry Old Hoops fan. Has broken down game film with the stats of the fake goat and his fake numbers. If Jordan only averaged 20-25 points instead of 30-35 in his first 10 seasons he would of won at least 4 defensive player of the year awards. Jordan is arguably the best defender period. I'd say its between him and Hakeem. Now add in jordan is the best scorer ever. Thats why he's unmatched.

      Wilt bullies him if they are in the same era. The NBA wanted Jordan to win cause he globalized the league and made them billions from shoes. They went with Jordan because he was an insane talent that the fans loved and they were trying to expand the league to guards and not be so big man dominant anymore. They wanted to sell basketball to more than just the giants. Without Jordan there is no Kobe, and without Kobe no Curry. No one could even try and replicate Wilt's individual achievements, not even close. Not to take away from Jordan's greatness, he's the greatest guard ever, and he did some amazing things before they changed the rules to help him win. Jordan also had the best team in the 90s, great players still all around but not teamed up together and the 90s definitely wasn't as talent packed as the 80s. Wilt was going against a team of all stars every year and almost beat them multiple times virtually by himself. Jordan had good role players around him, the rules and refs in his favor, and the greatest coach ever controlling the game for him.

      @@lotuslife3239 wilt bullies Jordan. How so? Lol. You mean like wilt guarding jordan?? Wilt played against horrible competition. Wilt got beat by Bill Russell. Russell was 6'9 and 220 pounds. Wilt did what he did because the competition was HORRIBLE. Same with Russell. If you put david Robinson, ewing in the 50's, 60's and eary 70's they'd average 40-50 points a game too.

      @865style u don't know ball bro. David Robinson type dudes can't do half the shit they were doing in the strict ass 60s. Defense had even more leeway. Nobody was getting those numbers but Wilt. Wilt destroyed Russell 1 on 1 everytime it was the constant triple teams in the playoffs that made the Celtics the better team, u acting like there weren't a bunch of HOFers on that team. Casual

    10:15 Well, in terms of on-the-ball defense Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley get my vote for best man-to-man defense on the perimeter. Other people may say Tony Allen. My father would probably say Sidney Moncrief. Jordan was a great overall defensive guard. He is the only (I think) guard to record back-to-back seasons of at least 200 steals and at least 100 blocks.

    Another great reaction, thanks for having an open and logical mind about this - you let the tape (and stats/accomlishments) do the talking, as it should be. One thing though: you gotta stop saying MJ pushed off on his last Bulls shot, cuz he didn't. If you look at the awkward position his hand/arm were at, especially from the reverse angle, it's easy to tell that he didn't and couldn't have generated any significant force from a push. Plus, it's also pretty clear that Russell's momentum is what caused him to slip, and not because of a push.

  • @StrictlyStrange67
    @StrictlyStrange67 Месяц назад +4

    Several things to add: 1. MJ legit had no help thru the 80s which is why his teams couldn't get past the 1st round early in his career, but he wasn't the reason they lost. 2. He vowed to make the playoffs every year and they did. (Bulls didn't expect MJ to turn the franchise around cuz back then the belief was only 7 foot centers could change franchises) 3. MJ as a rookie 28-5-5. 4. His 2nd season he broke his foot very early in the season. He came back and got them to the playoffs. They faced the 86 Celtics and they're still one of greatest teams ever, MJ had 63 which is still a playoff record and averaged over 40 for the series. 5. That next season MJ averaged 37-5-5-3-1 and wasn't MVP or DPOY 6. The next season MJ averaged 35-5-5-3-1.5 which is the greatest modern reg season ever. MVP, Scoring champ, Steals champ, DPOY, Dunk champ, All Star game MVP, All NBA 1st team and All NBA Defensive 1st team. 7. The next season MJ played some PG and recorded 7 triple double games in a row which was a record until Russ. MJ averaged 32-8-8.
    The point I'm trying to make is that people wanna say MJ sucked in the 80s, but in reality he was truly the greatest All around player the game will ever see. He unfortunately didn't have just a couple well rounded guys until pippen and Grant developed in the early 90s. MJ could've left and joined established stars like lebron, but he stayed and developed their draft picks like a true leader. MJ overcame any challenge and never had to tell the world how great he was. His game and the world does all the talking for him.

      Yeah definitely Larry Legend.
      Larry had guts and heart. He was clutch as hell. Love Larry Bird. I know a lot of Larry only fans like to say MJ couldn’t beat Larry but that’s really out of context.
      Larry had 4 other hall of famers on his squad while MJ literally had coke heads and no Allstars on his own team
      So that’s not really MJ couldn’t beat Bird. It’s MJ couldn’t beat Bird, McHale, Parrish, Johnson, Walton all by himself.
      MJ scored 63 on that Celtics team in the playoffs and still couldn’t over come that stacked Celtics championship team.

    MJ's defense often converted to his offense, just like his steal on Malone into the game winner in the 98 Finals. Edit: Media counting on young fans like you not watching games, especially older than their time and just looking at highlights and box scores.

  • @TheHarmAge
    @TheHarmAge Месяц назад +1

    The things I noticed back in the day was that you had players that excelled at certain parts of the game, but weren't as good in other. Payton was great on locking up and playmaking, was a decent scorer, but wasn't the best blocker. Hakeem was a great center with awesome fundamentals. Pat was amazing midrange for his size. Reggie was a pure shooter and fierce competitor. Every team had at least 1 player that was good at something. And then you had MJ who DID IT ALL! We'd wait until 3-4am for Chicago games live just to watch Chicago play here in Europe. And back then there was no social media that would hype up any player. We had to see it to believe it live. And we saw it, and believed it, because it was happening in front of our eyes. So that's the reason us old heads can't believe there's a debate who's better between MJ and Lebron. Because we saw who's better. So welcome to the club, even though you only see the highlights. =)

    Great reaction. I got to say I watched Jordan( entire games). I watched Bron since he came in. How would it be fair if I just watched highlights of one then followed the career of one and said I can tell who is the GOAT? That's how us old heads feel. Most are like me, we watched Jordan, and still watch Bron. If you don't have the attention span to watch as many bulls games as I have and current Bron, then it's hard to take you seriously in an actual goat convo. That's why we get crazy. Appreciate the research young man. Ball knows 🏀

    Jordan was one of only four players to make 1st team all defense nine times and actually won player of the year on defense once which is absolutely insane considering the offensive load he carried being the greatest scorer in history. There is a legitimate argument to be made that he's the greatest defender in the history of the NBA as well as being the greatest scorer. He took tremendous pride in his defense and felt that's what set him apart.
